You need to visit Witch Doctor Unbagwa (http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=1449). He is in the cave just north of Booty Bay. You need to turn in 10 Gorilla Fangs to him and he will begin the summon. Waves of Enraged Silverback Gorillas appear and you need to protect him. The 1st wave is 3 gorillas, the second wave is 5 or 6. (I believe there are 4 waves, as of this posting, I have not yet completed it.)

There are 2 - two - waves. The first wave is 3 apes, the second one is 5 apes, including Mokk, who's heart you have to loot for the quest.

When you get to the guy he's going to ask you to collect 10 gorilla fangs, which can be found in the gorillas that wander all around that area.

Once you give him the fangs, the event begins. There are actually 3 waves. The first wave is about 3 gorillas, the next one is 4~5 and then the last one is 5~6 including "Mokk", he's a white gorilla, you should have no problem tearing him apart.

As a 47 warrior (with good gear), I could not solo this part of the quest and had to get a 39 priest to heal me throughout.

You only need to kill and loot Mokk to complete the quest, so make sure to focus your fire on him for the final wave since you can still complete the quest if you die after killing him.

Between waves you have a couple seconds in which you can eat and drink. If you have a pet or ally, you can send him out to attack to give you a bit of extra time as all the gorillas will turn to attack them.

I just ried to solo this with my Druid, I got the the 2nd wave, but then the Witch docter died >.> So Now I gotta do it again. Had very few problems as a Feral Spec Druid soloing it up to there at 42.

Easy as a hunter if you got Beast mastery build .. well might be easy with other builds aswell but I was using pure beast mastery talents and I had no problem doing this quest.

For a hunter specifically, you get the second wave done at minimum. For the third wave, if you think you can't make it then FD at the outside of cave. The third wave group still remains inside the cave. So you can wake up outside, res your pet, refresh and kill them all.

I did this with a friend (we were both level 43)
I was a hunter, he was a warlock.

First wave was easy enough, needed food for the second, cleared the second, third came, quickly killed Mokk and we both mounted and ran.

Simple instructions -
Get quest from the Fin Fizracket (in the wrecked boat) at Booty Bay
Run up untill you see the Elder Mistvale Gorrilas.
Grind up to the cave collecting 10 Gorilla Fangs.
Prepare yourself after speaking to Doctor Unbagwa.
First wave (then use a bandage/potion)
Second wave (then eat)
Third wave (kill Mokk and then run)

I suggest atleast 2 people to do this quest. If you solo it then congratulations!

just so you know if you are 2 or more doing this quest. You do NOT need 1 fang each. It is enough that one person in the group hand in 1 fang. Then the quest begins.

Sheesh! That was frigging _insane_!! ZOMG!! I am a lv 43 night Elf Hunter with lv 43 pet also ... I got slaughtered! :( I was nearly dead after the 1st wave; didn't stand a chance in wave 2. :(

Will not soon try and solo again. I did grind for the gorilla teeth first, though. Thanks for that tip! I don't know if the witch doctor will need 10 more teeth again when I go back ... but he died too, so he is probably pi$$ed off at me now !! LOL!

Solo'd with a 49 frost mage. First wave not too hard, 2nd wave was the worst, 3rd wave was just frost nova/blizzard and burn down mokk. Used evoc after 2nd wave and burnt a mana citrine and 2 healing pots for it.

it is soloable by a 40

solod as a 40 prot pally, i was pretty well geared but it was a relativly easy fight past the 2 waves all i did was let reckoning proc as i used seal of light after i judged seal of light to keep myself healed the whole fight, didnt lose health past 90% past 2 waves, and 3rd wave i just burned omokk down first and used lay on hands once i got low and ran... ez

I highly recommend a group to kill the waves faster. I got all 10 gorilla fangs (took forever) then I slowly solo'd the first and second wave until Horde came in and ganked me... now I have to go retrieve 10 more gorilla fangs.

Did I learn a lesson? Uh, no... not really. Good luck!

Just solo'd with my 44 fury warrior, i found out some neat tricks that might help out.

on the first wave try to kill as many monkeys as you can before you get low on health once you do run away and deaggro all the monkeys that are left they will run back and start attacking the witch doctor bandage/eat&drink while he fights them for a while (he can take quite a bit) once you get your hp/mana back up go back and kill the rest of the monkeys

on the second wave stand back a bit and let him pick up the aggro on some right away kill what you can then run a bit then come back and kill the rest and bandage/eat&drink up before the final wave

on the last wave stand back and let him aggro as many as possible get the aggro on mokk and kill him fast loot his heart and run (or kill the rest if you can/want to)

Hope this helps anyone trying to do this quest :)

Soloed as a 43 prot-speced paladin, no aggro tricks or outside buffs, no cooldowns blown, no potions. Judgement of Light/Seal of Light on all mobs, a single Consecration on the last wave, and everything was cake.

soloed as a ret-speced paladin, same as above, used judgement of light/seal of light on all mobs, and a lot more than one consecration... had retribution aura going, and had to use lay on hands.. but i soloed it and didnt die

Something that I didn't notice mentioned:

If you fail this quest by letting Unbagwa die before getting to Mokk, you will have to recollect 10* gorilla fangs.

*Edit: As mentioned, since patch 2.3 you only need one gorilla fang to engage the quest even if you fail.

I did this quest with myself (lvl 42 hunter) and another hunter lvl 43. The first two waves are easy just make sure you eat and drink between them there enough time to fully replenish your mana and health. When Mokk comes with his wave concentrate on him even if u die the quest is still complete. We didn't die though :) Send i your pets on one gorilla and attack the same one to get them down as quick as possible that way less damage is dealt to you remember even if an enemy only has 1 hp left he can still kill u dealing just as much damage as he would if he had 100% health. And yes if u die you need to collect all ten gorilla fangs all over again, however doing it wiht more than one person is good because even though the quest is unsharable as long as the other person is there he doesnt even need to talk to the witch doctor as long as everyone in the party just HAS the quest they can loot Mokk and get the heart. They dont need to talk to the witch doctor or have 10 fangs. Just have the quest and have one person talk to him to start the summoning process.

I tried soloing this as a lvl 43 paladin with all the retribution auras and buffs I could muster but I couldn't get past the second wave. Best to do it with a friend as i had to do in the end.

Managed to solo this as a 42 hunter.. though it was a huge pain to do so . I basically downed the first 2 waves by the use of Feign Death, Mend Pet, Frost Trap and pots.

The best way of killing Mokk then was to nuke him down.. and run/die. I had some luck with crits when I did so.. though a tip for those who don't: if you die and run back to your corpse fast the monkeys will still be busy killing Doctor Unbagwa, giving you a second chance :)

I died pretty quickly the first time, didn't really know what I was getting into. However the second time got help from a guildie and completed it without too much fuss. By the way, the reward experience + xp from grinding Gorilla Fangs gives you some nice level progression.

Two points I believe need highlighting:

1) The witchdoctor can die -- although the quest asks for you to protect him, as long as you kill Mokk and loot the heart you have successfully completed the quest

and

2) Let the witchdoctor help you -- by meleeing gorillas and grabbing aggro. It seems many people just barely miss completing the quest and the help the witchdoctor can add for each wave can easily be the difference between success and failure. Especially between waves when you are eating/drinking or bandaging and a couple of seconds makes all the difference -- step behind him and let him aggro the wave so you can top off. Don't make the mistake of leaving the cave and not having him help out.

Soloed this quest with my lvl 43prot paladin. Last mob down and i had 1,5k hp still left. Very easy for a prot paladin to solo... if u have a nice armor! Used retribution aura, so that left me with 4675 armor. Used SoL, holy shield and consecration.

I soloed this quest with my level 48 Draenei Hunter Fradster (BM).

The first 2 waves I stood up and fought alongside my pet Zebra (a tiger). I used the exploding trap to injure as many attacking gorillas as possible.

When the 3rd wave came, I sent my pet in with Bestial Frenzy on (where it grows in size and turn red). I myself singled out Mokk and simply pound him into the ground. This time I used the Fire trap on Mokk. On this 3rd wave I also let the mobs come within reach from the Witch Doctor Unbagwa, so that he would aggro some of the mobs.

As soon as Mokk was dead, I looted him and took the heart. Of the 3 remaining mobs I managed to kill 1 before dying. However the quest was already complete, since I had looted the heart.

The weapon that I used while doing this quest was the polearm Blight, enchanted with Crusader.

call me an asshole, but i hate most alliance.

so i noticed the first wave running up to the cave. i followed and found a human warrior there. i helped him kill them, and the second wave came. i helped him kill them. then the third wave came, and i SINGLED OUT MOKK, killed him, took his heart, then proceeded to help the warrior kill the rest.

i would be hard pressed to say anybody else WOULDNT have done the same, alliace or horde.

my lvl 42 lock could complete this quest but not without dieing ofc ;) the first two waves of gorillas were ok to handle but the last one with 6 enemies was just to much. But if you have time to kill mokk and loot him before you die then there is no real problem with the dieing part ;) Mission completed.

As of 2.3, there are only three gorillas you fight, and they come individually. I think the final gorilla was level 44.

This quest is now soloable, you get 3 waves still, but only with one gorrila in each, the third wave is Mokk, just kill him and there you go. I got help from a level 41 at level 43, but I didnt know they changed it, you can easiliy solo at level 40 I think.

With the new patch applayed, for talk with Witch Doctor Unbagwa you need just 1 Gorilla Fang, not 10

as of patch 2.3, it only takes 1 fang, and each "wave" of gorillas is actually one gorilla.

so you turn in 1 fang to the witch doctor, fight one gorilla, another comes out and you fight that, and then the last is mokk. very easy to solo now.

I did this quest ages ago, well before burning crusade, with my pally... it was a pain in the rear, with three waves of apes - 2 in the first, 3 in the second, and 4 or 5 in the third wave.

I've just done this quest (after patch 2.3) on my lvl 47 hunter, and was expecting the same, but blizzard have made changes to make it dead easy.

Now only need 1 gorilla fang to start the waves - and now it just one gorilla in each wave. Like I said, dead easy. Almost disappointed how easy it was... almost.

This quest is very very easy. From booty bay run up to about 31,68 when you find Mistvale Gorilla's. Clear a path through them up to 35,61 (By then you should have obtained a Gorilla Fang) then talk to Witch Doctor Unbagwa. He won't have a yellow ? above his head for some reason, but is easy to find inside his cave. Once you speak to him, you will have a gap of about 10 seconds then a Enraged Silverback Gorilla (Level 43) will attack you. After him, another gap till Konda comes, another Level 43 Gorilla. Then you will have another gap till Mokk the Savage comes up (Level 44). Kill him and loot the Heart of Mokk. Return to Booty Bay and job done.
Bearing in mind i was level 47 at the time, might be a bit harder for you. I didn't even have to heal/drink/eat throughout the quest.

: If Witch Doctor Unbagwa or you die before Mokk is dead, you will have to re-collect the Gorilla fang and start over.

I felt that nerfing somethings was a good idea to lvl faster, they kinda dropped the ball on others (like some quests aren't LABELED elite but SURPRISE the quest mob is, etc). This is one of them, I'm lvling a prot pali this time ally (my horde server had socially imploded now it's technically imploding 4k ping 60 min av queues ftl)

anywho On my horde pali I had used this quest to as a gear check for AoE grinding and tanking. Not to mention it was fun and an huge monkey battle of epic proportions.

After grinding 10 fangs I was surprised when he only wanted one...then I remember 2.3 and had a bad feeling. Then come one LONE ape running at me, then the troll voodoo guy instead of sitting there channeling decided to get in on the fun.

Then another lone ape, and finally the third, I didn't even have to heal just use SoL...very lame..very boring. I hear the Kong Quest was also over nerfed. : /

As of latest patch has become very easy.
Only 1 fang and, when summoned, only 3 waves with each containing one gorilla. The 3rd wave being Mokk. Very achievable.

I found this quest super easy, as a 40 Druid.

i actually did it twice. the first time, someone made the gorillas come then ran away, (naturally i aggro'd them)
Jumped into moonkin w/ almost no mana rooted the first gorilla ran back and healed, then popped into cat forn and DPS'd it to death
the next one came, i healed, then rooted it, moonfire, then went into cat form and dps's again.
the lvl44 came and i needed to heal, had no mana cuz i rooted it. used innervate.
killed it,
themn i realized i never got the quest. which sucked. =/
but when u do get it, the lvl 44 drops his heart, then u take it to the little guy that dying.

this quest is repeatable.

but seriously its an easy solo at 40 (good luck)

Solo'd as a level 40 fire spec'd mage. Had to use a healing pot for the last guy but was pretty simple besides that. Great XP for my level too. Good luck. =] For some reason the witch doctor has a blue ? over his head. I guess that means it's repeatable and you can kill them as many times as you want? Not quite sure.

The witch doctor is located in a cave at 35,60. THe cave is surrounded by huge mountains so its hard to find, but theres a road leading to it at 34,64.
Come with a Gorilla Fang!

After you hand in the quest you have to defend him against a level 42, 43 then a level 44 mob coming one at a time. Loot the last mob and you get the heart

Great for farming Heavy Leather, Thick Leather, Heavy Hide and Thick Hide, and without the trash or running around.

Do not turn the quest in and you can continue to summon the three gorillas over and over again.

Just as Aeetes says, it's great for farming thick and heavy leather. The mobs come to you and you don't get adds. Plus the witch doc helps you beat on them. :D

Thick leather goes for 13g a stack on my server so it well worth it.

Quest Aquisition
Fin Fizracket at 27,76 (under the overturned hull fragment) gives this quest. I am not aware of any pre-reqs other than level.

Quest Progress
First, aquire 10 Gorilla Fangs. (I know it's not in the quest description) These can be found on the Elder Mistvale Gorilla (lvl 40 to 41) on either side of the road right after you leave booty bay (after the bloodsail buccaneers turns), or more commonly (about 1/2) on the silverback's further east. (They can likely be found on other gorillas as well, but these are convinient.
Next, turn in the 10 Gorilla Fangs to Witch Doctor Unbagawa (34, 61).
He will summon 3 (or 4, I think 3 though) waves of 4-5 gorillas about lvl 40-41. The mobs will not agro him, but he will agro the mobs, so a useful strategy if you're short handed is to let them attack him before you've agrod them, then attack w/ the lvl 42 assisting you. Keep in mind though that you must keep him alive until he summons the last wave.
In the third wave, a white gorilla will attack; this is your target mob. He is not notably more difficult than the others (maybe a lvl higher), so the strategy for the prior two waves should suffice.

Keep in mind that the waves occur at about 5 second intervals. This means if you are not notably overpowered, you are best off eating/drinking, or channeling whatever you need between battles instead of looting/skinning.

Quest Completion
The turn-in is at Fin Fizracket, 27,76, sleeping under the upside down hull. At level 47 I got 5850xp, 500 faction w/ booty bay, and 500 lost with bloodsail buccaneers. The cloak you receive is also nice (vendor trash for me), but you can read on that elsewhere :-)

Most overrated quest, ever. Start it as soon as you get it, it's easily doable at level 40 or 41. The witch doctor fights along, the apes come in waves of one, Mokk is non-elite, etc. Those good old days ...

I don't know about you, but if some dying guy with a jungle virus told me the only cure was to feed him the heart of some beast that lives in a cave... I'd put 50 cents in his cup and keep walking.

Just did this quest. Heading to turn in now. Ironically, after finishing it I immediately disconnected. Loading in as we speak!

Quest is really easy, but quest helper addon is misleading for it.

Three waves of one mob. Very easy, did at level 43. without going under 99% hp.

Um ya this quest was preety easy the hardest part was finding the troll guy. Thenu get a fang from th silverback gorillas. The wicth doctor is in the north east part of mistvale.

The cave you are looking for is called the Spirit Den. On your map, follow the road out of Booty Bay and look for a cave-like symbol just east of the road. Go through the hills where the gorillas are, make sure to get a Fang off of one of them as you will need it. There will be a path leading up to the cave. Give the witch doctor the fang and he will summon the first gorilla. I don't know if this is normal or if my internet was lagging but it seemed like he summoned for a good 25-30 seconds before anything happened. One gorilla will come, kill him, then a second, kill him, then a third and he will drop the heart you need. Return to Booty Bay to turn in the quest. Easy fight, easy quest. Remember, these are gorillas so they don't cast or have any special abilities, just straight melee and the witchdoctor will help you kill them as well.

Apparently, the only cure for Stranglethorn Fever is to eat the heart of Mokk the Savage. My question is how did he know this, and what are other people supposed to do if they get it? Mokk only has one heart...

When i gave him the fang it also took like 30 sec before the first gorrilla came, killed him waited and thought there waas a bug but when i left the caveren the second one came, and the same story for the last one, verly easy to do as a lvl 40 holy priest

Requires one Gorilla Fang to summon, you should get one from mistvale gorillas around the summoner.

3 waves, first is an enraged gorilla, second is Kondo and third is Mokk, finally.

I got glitched doing this quest the first wave was Konda and an add. There was no second wave I had to wait a bit for Mokk because of it. Still easy even with the weird glitch.

I'll just assume that Blizzard expected some people to take an unusually long time to kill each wave, because I killed each within 20 seconds (as a level 40 protection warrior) and waited..

So don't think that you're disconnecting, or your quest glitched.

You'll just have to wait a few minutes..

I miss the old one. The one where you had to wait until the quest was green to you, get two other people, and grind gorilla fangs until you head up there and buff, pass pots around, and work your arse off to beat the gorilla swarms. Oh, and the opposite faction would always know to stop by and try to wipe you or compete for gorillas for fangs. It was a pain, but it was memorable and exciting.

An interesting tidbit for addon authors: This quest actually completes twice. Handing the fangs to the witch doctor completes the quest for the first time (CHAT_MSG_SYSTEM: "Stranglethorn Fever completed."), but the quest stays in the quest log (no UNIT_QUEST_LOG_CHANGED fires). Handing the heart to Fizracket produces a CHAT_MSG_SYSTEM "Stranglethorn Fever completed." again, this time followed by UNIT_QUEST_LOG_CHANGED and then the quest is gone from the log.

After looting Heart of Mokk, I saw that Witch Doctor Unbagwa got back the blue question mark. I clicked on it by reflex and started the event again. Didn't wait to complete it though, I just hearthed back to Booty Bay and completed the quest.

It so easy it makes me cry, i really do like appreciate how easy it is to do withouth mindless waste of time and grinding but i truly miss the old gauntlet. It reminded me so much of ZF :(. Nerf to 1 fang and 3 wave of 1 gorrila each

Easy quest for a hunter. The Witch Doctor will not summon the gorillas directly into the cave, but they run from the jungle to the cave instead. You can send your pet earlier to hit anyone of them while you're drinking water if you're low on mana. None of the gorillas are elite, so this is a real candy. The time between gorillas is around 5 to 10 seconds.

Oh, and don't forget to farm your leathers from the gorillas if you have skinning!

Note for hunters. Mokk the Savage IS NOT tamable. Don't waste your time finding this out like I did. (he does look pretty sweet though...)

Did this as a level 45 rogue. Exceedingly easy. When I got there, though, he had already summoned, and was fighting off Konda, so I had to go through 1 1/2 times. Still, a good 6000 hp, with turn in. Oh, and bring the fang with you, if you haven't realized that yet. I got it on my first mob, so it was super, super easy.

I encountered a glitch or a change with this quest today. I was doing it as my level 45 NE druid and gave Unbagwa the one gorilla fang required for him to summon the three waves. However, after Kondo was killed in the second wave, Unbagwa stopped the summoning and I received a message stating the quest was completed, despite Mokk never appearing (and I had waited over a minute to be sure). I ran out of the cave to make sure no one else killed him, and there was no corpse. So I ran back into the cave, gave Unbagwa another gorilla fang to restart the quest, and Mokk was the FIRST gorilla to attack upon Unbagwa's summoning process.

So if anyone encounters a similar problem as I did, just try giving Unbagwa another gorilla fang.

So let down by this quest. I remember back in the day when it was easiest to find a group to be able to finish it, coz of all the adds... But now... /sigh

I'm agreeing with ParkourLover, here, people. I've been running all over Stranglethorn looking for this guy, and nothing there! There's no gorillas, no witch doctor, no stupid heart to pull out of anyone's stupid chest. Can someone please answer? I've been reading up for hours. Blizzard says obsolete...but I need this quest to continue to the next, and so on and so forth. Help!

It says this quest is unobtainable, but I just completed it today. Kill gorillas in the area until you get the fang. Then take it to the troll in the cave. Then kill the attacking gorillas.
