In order to complete this quest, I collected Muddy Water from the river behind Mudmugs place. Each time I collected the muddy water from the pools, the level of liquid in my vial increased, however every time you move (no matter what you do), the muddy water will spill for each step you take.

My strategy:
I scouted a spot I believed had the most pool spawns from one side of the river to the other. Then I started on the other side of the river (farthest from Mudmugs place) and swam my way across the river, collecting the muddy water from the pools as I went along. When your vial is full, your quest is complete.

Best way to do this is to begin with a pool of at least 3 - 4 Muddy Water and your flask will be half full already then right click on the next closest Muddy Water from your position to minimize travel distance as you can loose it with the slightest movement.

I took this quest, tried it a few times and then avoided it like the plague until I came back to it at level 88. The description is terrible and misleading. I thought you had to get enough muddy water into the flask so that if you carried it all the way back to MudMug there would still be some left once you got there. In fact you simply have to move from pool to pool until it is full, at which point it stoppers itself. Then you just turn it in. Once I knew this, it took me 10 seconds to complete.

I was able to find a grouping of 4 patches of 2-4 waters; don't know how helpful this may be, depending on spawn times and whatnot.

Also, just make sure to check however it is your UI is displaying it. LUI showed it as a bar under my Mana/Energy/Rage/Runic Power that slowly filled up. I know a guildy said she had some sort of buff or something.

The easiest way to do this is to have a friend with a 2 seater mount, such as the Chopper. Collect the puddles, jump in the passenger seat, and have your friend drive you to the next puddles. You won't spill a drop!

For warriors this is easy, eat set of muddy watter has 2+ as mentioned, just heroic leap from one to another, just avoid from moving. If you aggro a mob, don't worry as long as your not touching your asdw keys you'll be fine. Rinse and repeat until quest complete

Coords: 66.7, 60.9 seems to be the best spot. You will find 5 pools, they are tainted slightly green. I stayed on the coast since swimming is a pain.

Make sure you have a free slot in your bag when you fill the vial. I didn't and the moment I filled it up I lost all the gathered water. Doing this quest was quite easy the first time, I was the only person around so there were groups of 2-4 pools about 10-15 yards from each other. As long as there are enough pools, spilling water while running or swimming between them is no problem.
The pools have quite a respawn time so when I had to begin over I had to run around a little to find another good spot to begin. Also, they are dark green on greenish-brown water so at first it took me some time to spot them. To gather the water you don't have to use the bottle, you can also click directly on the pools (you'll see a cogwheel).

Make sure you have at least one inventory space left. Otherwise you'll get "Inventory full" message and you'll have to gather the water again.

For warlocks, Glyph of Nightmares helps a great deal. Mount and run on the water to the nearest muddy water pool instead of swimming, it spills less. I am pretty sure same can be said for DK's.

You must have an empty bagslot when the vial is full.
If you have an old computer, and have reduced your video settings for performance, it is recommended to set Liquid Detail to at least fair for this quest. Just like some other quests, the Muddy Water is not visible through the old water-surface texture.
Use Worn Stone Token, levitate or any other way of waterwalking, then, if possible use mount, since the "dripping" is time-dependant, you will drop less, if you are moving for a shorter time i.e. faster.

If you can't see any pools on the surface, go underwater and you can see the sparkles showing where there are pools nearby.

The pools are located at the Yan-Zhe River. You have to click into the pools until you have the vial full of water. Make sure you have at least 1 slot in your bag or you have to start all over again (once you have the vial full you will receive "Stoppered Vial of Muddy Water") it will disappear if you do not have space). Try to get the ones that are closer, they appear most of the time in groups of 3-4.

If you have your graphics set to low the pools of mud are almost invisible.

Under graphics enable projected textures and you should be able to see them alot better.

This quest is horribly explained. I thought you collected water from a pool, and then had to find the shortest route back to Mudmug. Yeah, no. You collect water from multiple pools until it is full, and then you're done, the pools are green in color. Most of them have 3 or 4 pools to collect from, and then you can easily walk to the next pool and collect another 3-4. Seriously blizz? Come on man!

What it's really hard to see if your Liquid Details is set to anything less than "good" on lower end machines to save on processing power is that EACH NODE of muddy water is made up of multiple clusters that you can gather. I had been trying to do this by going from one vaguely sparkly area to the next and failing pretty much every time because I would run out of the measly 10 units of water between one node and the next.

Each one of those muddy water areas is made up of three to five spots that you can gather about 10 units from. Don't worry about how far you are from the turn-in point, you don't have to carry it back to the guy. Once your "flask" is full you'll cork it off and finish the quest requirements all without leaving the river area.

As others have mentioned, make sure you have a slot in your inventory free for the "full" flask.

You can squint at the nodes with your Liquid Details on low to see where the individual ones are or just kind of click around until it doesn't work anymore, but the better workaround is, if you can, temporarily up the quality to "good" in your System settings while you focus on getting the quest done. Even if your machine and/or video card is old enough that this basically just turns off the water displaying at all there will still be much more obvious clusters of three to five green dots floating in the "air" at the surface that you can gather.

Just a tip as a mage doing this quest. If you use blink to get to each location you will not spill a drop. It just takes a while as you wait for blink to come off cool down.

I figured out how to do this as a hunter. Step onto one of the muddy water areas and begin to fill your vial. Locate another one and turn your toon so it's back is facing it. Then attack something and immediately disengage. Your toon will fly backwards toward the next muddy pool without losing a drop. It worked like a charm for me!

If you have no bag space left after getting the vial from Mudmug, it doesn't turn into a Stoppered Vial of Muddy Water. So left 1 slot of bag space and then fill the vial to %100.

There is an island at 71, 54. If you go to that island before you start trying to fill your vial, you will have fewer steps to take. The pools spawn thickly and close to each other around that island and the smaller island near it.

This will really only help warriors but Heroic Leap does not count as taking steps, so I just jumped from pool to pool. It took a little time waiting on the cooldown, but it was way less stressful.

Okay, I initially gave up on this quest, then realized how big a chain it was connected to and went back. When I did, I was able to solve this pretty quickly.

First, as others have noted, the muddy water typically spawns in clusters of 3. You will click EACH of the circles in the cluster. So you get three from one spawn point before you move to the next.

Second, there is no timer on this quest. Your vial decreases as you move. So you can collect each cluster then PAUSE to consider where you are moving next. You will need roughly 9 (three clusters of 3) in a reasonably close area in order to fill the vial. If you need to move farther, count on 4 clusters.

Just locate a spot off one of the small islands where you can see several clusters within a reasonable distance from one another. Start at one and move in the straightest line possible. Don't hurry, pick your direction carefully.

When I completely understood this, I did it in one try with no difficulty at all. This one is a puzzle, and it's not a smart one for Blizz to introduce as the method to solve it is not obvious.

I spent so long doing this quest and found that at coods 73.54 theres a little island and about 9/10 pools there which fills your bottle with basically no spillage!

If you fill the bottle all the way to the top it will complete the quest. Then all you have to do is turn it in. I discovered this by accident while trying to get my bottle as full as possible before heading back.

First do as someone else suggested by hitting the number key /. This minimizes spillage. I found a cluster on the bank around 71.30, 52.27. Fill it all the way to the rim & it will then say "Stoppered Vial of Muddy Water".

An observation from a severely colour blind player; this quest I found quite a challenge - green/brown being obviously not too clever a pallete choice on Blizz's behalf. Personally I'd leave this until it's late at night and you have the ability to wait for respawns. Trying to do this around other players while squinting at the screen trying to work out which shade of crap might have an action indicator on is just frustrating as hell.

This quest made me want to "Fus Roh Dah" my PC. Not so hard once you figure it out tho. Have tryed it on 2 or 3 toons and most of the comments below work. The important thing is just keep filling till it goes ding! Vial filled1/1! or what ever it says.

I recommend skipping this if more than one other person is doing it. If it's just you go to whatever side is unoccupied and start at the very edge of the effective quest area. Loot a mud spot and don't move. Mount and run towards the next mud spot. Try not to swim with this. If you have water walking, well, lucky you. Otherwise stick to land and mount in between.

This quest needs some 'less rage' mechanics implemented. If you're a tedious person this might not bug you but if you're in a hurry be prepared to be a little pissy.

This quest is not hard. Keep in mind that the spots for gathering water form groups of two or three. Pick up all three while standing still and move on to the next group. The flask will stop spilling once you have filled it up.

I think the comment above about finding the spot in the pools that have the most muddy water is the best.
I simply walked along one edge until I saw a bunch around each other, three at one place for each time. So it took me walking three times along one edge, done in two minutes.
Hope this helps, just look for the most populated muddy areas.

Once you actually know what to do, the quest isn't that bad.

Once you collect muddy water (which is tinted green, but still looks very similar to the rest of the water...), a vial will appear on your screen. Each patch muddy water you collect has five "drops" that will spill out each time you move a certain distance. If you have the volume on, you'll hear a dripping noise each time you lose a drop.

The drops do NOT spill out when you are standing still. Once you've got a few drops in your vial, make sure there's no more muddy water next to where the other one was because they're often in groups. Then move on to the next closest patch of muddy water you can find, until the vial fills and then you're done!

Didn't see a really good description of this. Like others said, when you are standing near a few muddy water nodes, get them all. When you move, you spill some, so move straight to the next group. By the time you get there, you will still have a little left from the previous group. Keep repeating this and you will slowly fill your vial a little at a time. As others said, once it is full, you are done. It won't spill anymore. I did this easily with no special class moves (with my hunter).

How annoying!

I don't know how anybody did this with Li Li hanging around, as she always got in front of me so I'd end up targeting her instead of filling the vial. I finally had to just take her around to everyplace and turn in her quest before I could do this one, as I couldn't find any way of making her GO AWAY! (I could summon her, but not dismiss her.)

For that reason, I would suggest that hunters, mages and warlocks dismiss your pet before doing this, also. (My water-elemental seems to have this bizarre idea that "follow" means "stand right in front of.")

Stand at the edge of the river and check out where the pools are, first. Plan your route to go from one to the nearest pool, to the next, etc. Your vial will NOT leak as long as you are standing still so once you have used the (normally) two or three pools in one area, just stand there and get your bearings before heading to the next pool.

To finish this quest with minimal frustration and the least amount of time spent, head to the little island in the river, accept the fact that there will be leakage, and find 3-4 groups of muddy water pools, and fill the flask.

Here is a guide for those who remember this quest as very frustrating (during launch of Mists of Pandaria). As a side note, I was playing two accounts at the same time, questing through the Valley of the Four Winds and finished this quest in less than five minutes total for both characters.

I wanted to be able to say that Levitate would make you not spill any of the muddy water (one of the characters is a Priest). This is sadly not true. Levitate does not prevent the flask to spill.

The location (for those who play without coordinate add-ons) that allowed me to finish the quest quickly for two characters was the little island in the river south of the quest giver. There were a lot of grouped up spots of muddy water all along the water and the little island.

Most pools are grouped as 3 or 4 spots of muddy water and look like medium sized pulsing green dots. Filling the flask takes 10 spots without spilling any. The first character collected 12 spots with minimal walking in-between. The second character had to collect 16 since there was some walking involved.

Thanks everyone for their postings on this quest. I am a lvl 88 feral druid. From reading the quest I did not realize that more than one filling was required. (duh). So thanks for that info, and TY for telling us to look for the sparkles. When I went the first time, there had been a lot of players ahead of me, and there were no sparkles, or anything. The flask would not fill. I abandoned it and tried again, and still nada. Nothing spawned. Then today I read all the comments again, went back in cat form, and filled it quite easily. ty ty ty :)

If you're a monk and doing this after level 90, it's a lot easier if you use Zen Flight. You move quicker and don't spill as much, and it also makes it easier to see the pools as you can raise yourself up above the pools a little bit.

No-no. Adventurers will, instead, run around trying to fill a flask they know leaks, without figuring out a way to keep it from leaking. Because that's the kind of brainpower people who habitually save the entire freakin' world have.

Once the "flask" (-actually a colander disguised by Loki, god of mischief) is filled to the top, it will mystically gain the ability to hold liquid, and all will be well.

I am convinced there are (some, not all) game designers at Blizzard who take a deep drag (and yes - fully inhale), then snort out a laugh, and say to each other, "Check this out... this one'll really piss 'em off... it'll be great!"

I say they should be forced by law (and enormous enforcers with brass knuckles and no sense of humor) to run through their own quests, over and over and over again.

After doing this quest on several different toons, I realized today that there are multiple 'pools' in one spot. Find 3-4 muddy water spots together and then click 3-4 times in each spot. You can walk to the next, then the next, and by the time you're done the others have respawned some 'pools' again.

So i had these answers helping me lots, but theres a problem. Since the new update ( atleast i think since the new update) It's constantly raining in the pools. This makes it impossible for me to find any *pools* that i see above or in videos on youtube. I'm standing at the exact spots i have seen, but because of the rain theyre not showing up.. Does the rain ever stop? cause i have been in that place for atleast 3 times at different days, and it wont stop raining ;_; Is this quest impossible to do now?

I had my best results by positioning myself near a group of muddy water, farming those pools, moving a little ways down, and using the cursor to find other pools. But this is a terrible quest.

Like many others this quest was driving me insane. I tried walking. I tried fishing for over an hour waiting for pools to respawn. I tried all kinds of stuff from the comments.

What ended up working best was the following:

- Find as many clusters of pools relatively close to each other as possible.
- Change your movement controls to mouse movement (point and click to move). This will take you in a direct line when you click the next pool.

It seems simplistic, and more than a few times I thought I'd lose what I gained in the bottle. But it worked and I had it done in less than two minutes doing it this way.

To fill vial and complete quest:

1. go to riverbank
2. look for sets of small dark green circles along edge (just in water off the bank)
3. click on each circle (3-4 circles per set)
4. go to next set repeat until vial is full

Another thing to note is that movement spells like Disengage, Heroic Leap, Blink, or Goblin Rocket Jump do not cause you to lose water.

IMPORTANT: You collect water NOT from the water, but from little green circles (you can see them in the picture at the top of this page). NOWHERE in the quest text does it say you collect it from nodes, GRRR!

I found using the draenic water walking elixir very useful in this quest. I went to one end of the quest-area, drank the elixir and the ran on the water from pool to pool. I didn't loose too much and as a lvl 120 paladin, I didn't aggro anything. It took me about a minute or so to complete the quest.

I was trying to do this quest on my level 120 for reputational purposes, as I am trying to get pets/mounts/gear for this particular expac. (My toon was created during BFA) Anyway, the quest seems bugged. There are no glittery pools that show you where the muddy water is. I have submitted a bug report

Go to the river. Look for the small green circles that cause your 'mouse-over' to show a gear. Move close to a patch of those green 'pools'. (Muddy water can be green in this river) Click on the green patches one by one till they're gone or show as unusable. Move to the next patch and do it again. Do this until this portion of the quest completes. Run back after.

OK. Go to the river. Look for little green circles. Those are the pools you want. They are interactable, you click them and they then in turn "fill" the flask. What I did was zoom out the camera and find as many pools as possible (and also those that were clumped together in pools of four and five), and then when I went to my pools, I stayed in place while I clicked all the pools there. That way the only water loss was moving to the next pools and I took the shortest distance to each pools section, of course. That's it. It took me forever to figure out what the heck I had to do, though. I was clicking the water and everything. This quest was enraging.

You probably heard - I like to use the muddy water from the riverbanks, to the south. Would you mind fillin' up this flask with that water and bringin' it back? I'll start gettin' the hops and barley all ready.
