All you have to do for this quest is go to where one big dragon is on the ground being mended, kill Twilight Wyrmkin until the big dragon is healed. If you have 5 menders still up once the big dragon hits 100% health, you go 5/5 on the quest objective.

Works exactly like the Dreamwalker encounter in ICC, in that the quest will complete when the NPC is near full hp (97%). You can heal the dragon yourself to speed this up immensely, or you can just dps while the menders heal it.

Probably the only quest in the game where both Horde and Alliance can work towards the same goal... granted you are on a PvE realm and have no choice but to heal the dragon together instead of trying to kill each other.

Remember that you can use the Ruby Seeds on the corpses of the twilight drakes you defeat during this quest and complete Life from Death at the same time.

I stood near the big dragon and just spammed heals until it hit 100%. I did it so fast that all 5 menders will still alive.

But I got no credit for the quest.

I tried again, but I also threw out some heals to the 5 menders while they were being attacked. This finally worked.

Accidentally standing in the flame breath of the attacking drakes is intensely painful though, so be careful.

You can use seeds on enemy drakes. You can also heal the big drake, or atleast use a bandage on them.

Also, they do not need to be fully heal. mine was close but it was still not fully (would only be another 3 seconds up with 5 healers though)

When attempting to heal the dragon you are trying to protect now, it triggers the entire group of aggressors to come after you. As a Shadow Priest, this means insta-death. They must of changed it.

This is by far the most difficult quest I have ever encountered. I am curious to know if there is a trick to it I'm not getting. I attempt to lure them one by one and kill them, but as soon as I kill one, another one is already stomping in. It's an endless cycle. Healing the dragon does not work either, as stated.

Completed it, so here's my guide for a Shadow Priest.

1. Get a foothold. Kill as fast as you can and don't let up. If you have mana pots, use them, it'll keep you alive longer. Avoid addons if possible (find out where they usually land and avoid those spots)

2. When you die, which is likely to happen several times, get back quickly and maintain the foothold.

It'll likely take a few attempts, but eventually you'll get it done. Healing no longer works on this mob, for some reason, when you cast a heal on the dragon, it automatically takes that heal away and aggros any mobs nearby. I guess they should update the quest text.

For a Shadow Priest, due to how quickly they kill the healers, you'll probably end up having to do two dragons. Takes about 30 minutes total.

not sure if this was a bug or not, but when i did the quest i had 5 menders up but only one actually healing the rest just stood there and stared the whole time, so it takes FOREVER long to complete, but completed it 5/5 on on dragon with frost dk

Bugged as of 4.2. Menders are not healing the dragons. Sometimes only one of the 5 is healing and it takes forever for 1 mender to heal the dragon by himself. Gave up after 15 minutes of consecutive dragon killing on my 84 rogue.

So how do you do it solo if you CAN'T heal? They come in ever increasing numbers as you finish one off...1 then 2 then 3...not to mention the ones on the OTHER little raptors doing the healing...

I don't recall having any trouble with this quest right after Cata first went live, but I just did it on another of my 85's and it most certainly is bugged now. I went over to the big dragon as it landed and the menders ran up and started healing but after the 3rd or 4th drake I realized the menders had totally stopped healing. After about 15 minutes of running back and forth killing drakes the menders still weren't healing. I used bandages a few times but the dragon wasn't getting healed. I finally left, abandoned the quest, re-acquired it and this time the menders healed all the way and I was done in maybe 3 minutes. I have some other characters that haven't gotten this far in the quest chain yet so I'll try it on them.

O.K. i found an easy way to do this quest....
For me this quest was a %^&*... It just never worked!
It was really frustrating and then after about my 5th death, the dragon had just died and despawned which was confusing at first, but then it just respawned! So then sat in a place where i was close enough to jump at any of the dragons that appeared, yet far enough away that i was able to see all of the dragons that i had to protect. What then happened was that the dragons that you had to kill would appear one by one which is a lot easier than killing them in groups! :D it took around 6-7 mins after that for the big dragon guy to heal fully- so enjoy killing loads of dragons!
i really hope that this post helps people complete this really awkward quest!

Had the same problem with the menders not healing the dragon.

It might help if you wait for a "fresh" dragon to land instead of trying to protect one already on the ground.

Also, I had better luck protecting the dragon when I was on the ridge directly behind the quest giver. The drakes seemed to come from only directly in front of or behind the dragon and were easier to keep track of.

As of today this quest is working 95% well. I just did this on my warrior, at the start all five menders were healing, although as the dragons attacked them, one of them stopped healing. Was still able to do this quest without the need to use first aid.

Don't jump in if the Wyrmkillers are already on scene! Let the dragon die, plant a seed, then fly up and wait for the new Vermillion Menders to spawn. Follow them to to the downed dragon and plant yourself there. The Wyrmkillers will come in one by one, in a pattern. I had one come from one side then two from the other. Then back to the one...repeat. As a Combat Rogue, I kept Slice and Dice, and Recuperate up at all times, and used Sinister Strike and Revealing Strike for damage. Of course I also used Killing Spree, Combat Readiness, Adrenaline Rush, and Evasion when they were off cd. Only used killing blows when S&D and Rec still had time on. Took a little while but kept all five menders alive (completed) and only had to fight one Wyrmkiller at a time. The first dragon I tried to help had three Wyrmkillers on it when I got there. It was a lost cause. Sometimes you gotta make sacrifices :(

ok after a bunch of tries heres the deal. Find a new pop dragon and the menders will run down and start healing (all 5) watch for the blue dragons to come down and engage before they land (or at least before they reach a mender) only took about 2 mins and killed 4 blue dragons and with all 5 menders healing the whole time, completed quest 5/5, hope this helps. 84 DK (blood)

As of 4.2 is quest is bugged but I seem to have found a way to succeed. You'll need some bandages and patience. Find a dragon as it lands (fresh) and wait to see the menders appear in the distance. As soon as they come come to start "healing", begin healing the dragon with a bandage. Although it's not always all of the 5 that will heal for real, I've found that at least one will continually heal.

That's all you need, just protect the menders from the wyrmkillers and you'll be set. I tried this trick 3 times and it worked each time. It went from 5, 2, 1 menders healing the dragon.

Did it in 4.2 as a Shadow Priest.

I had the same problems as above (1 mender healing) so what I did was wait until a big dragon died and then another flew down. As soon as it landed I started healing (which didn't even do that much). A few seconds later, a team of 5 menders ran over and all of them started healing. As soon as I would see an enemy dragon approach I would dot it before it aggroed onto one of the menders.

At the very end, a dragon flew in from a different direction (behind me) and aggroed one of the menders. I took aggro and killed it, but I noticed the mender was no longer mending after the dragon had hit it once.

Moral of the story: the menders appear to stop healing if they are attacked. If you come in on an old dragon, most likely all but the center most mender has been attacked and is no longer healing. Best thing to do is wait for a dragon to die and a new one to land and prevent any dragons from being interrupted.

Been trying for a good 15 minutes to attempt this quest as a DK, it's impossible.

I've tried attacking the dragons before they land but they just stop healing....

Ridiculous considering if you can't complete this quest, you can't finish the chain....... Nor are there any other quests you can do in TH..

Just did this quest as mage. It took me 20 mins to get one drake healed, had 5 menders but at best 3 were at work. Most of time just one mender actually healed. Awfully tiring quest as dps class. Also reminded that I'd bring first aid up :/

The best strategy I can come up with to deal with menders not mending is to allow the wyrmkillers to kill any of the ones that aren't healing, especially if there's less than three actively healing. More menders will spawn eventually and the ones that come later seem to heal properly.

This could be a problem for classes without self heals or low sustainability, but it works for DKs, paladins, etc.

This quest is bugged but you can complete it if you have some patience. Wait to find a dragon that has no menders, then go there. Most likely only one of the menders will do any healing so it will take FOREVER. Not so when Cata dropped so my main had this much better, but oh well. Then you just fight off all the drakes and don't be surprised if you get some people jump onto your dragon right at the end, after all the hard work is done.

This quest is buggy.

took me a few minutes to workout its bugged and i did it all without healing my dragon.

1.camp the spot where a dragon lands and wait for a "fresh" dragon to land.(as other posters have said)
2. Defend the verm-whateva as they come to heal.
3. ? profit

Before i didn't wait for a fresh dragon and was wondering why the verm wern't healing(its just bugged) and wasted some bandages(warrior).

if the purple dragons hit the verm they will stop healing(bugged) lucky i had 3 healing so was able to finish quest.

None of the menders heal no matter what for me. I've tried waiting for a fresh dragon to come down then aggro and kill the first wyrmkiller before it even lands. The menders just spawn and sit there doing nothing, every single time.

Edit: after about 10 failed attempts, one group of menders finally decided to heal the dragon. None of them took any damage and the dragon was healed up to full, although I only got credit for guarding 3/5 menders... cmon blizz fix this

Tips for this Quest.

1) Go for a new dragon ( land recently )

2) Don't let the Wyrmkillers hit your healing menders. Kill the first 3 Wyrmkillers which approch the menders.( by doing this, the menders will continue healing the dragon and i realised that when a new group of Wyrmkillers approched, the dragon health was healed to 90% )

I completed this quest less than 5min.

my experience, but also think I found a 'working' way that should suit most people.

my 1st attempt was the NE one down by the water. Only a couple of menders were mending. I thought my job was just to defend menders in general. Eventually, I got overwhelmed, and had to shadowmeld. The drake died, from what I could tell, from me standing too close/facing the wrong way, so that the twilights were breathing on the drake as well as me.

2nd attempt: I chose the S one up by the tree. Also failed, but I learned something else: if a mender is actually mending, and gets attacked for more than a couple of seconds, it will turn to face the twilight attacker - and thereby breaking its healing stream. Even if the attacker is killed, when the mender turns back, they will NOT start healing again.

3rd attempt: I took the drake up on the ramp/hill to the west of the questgivers. This time, there were no menders, and no attackers. Cast hots before he even landed. I healed the drake to full myself, which he promptly took to the wing - but you get no credit, because . . . no menders were there. : / Maybe because I started healing him before he landed?

What worked:

1) Drop this quest, and then pick it back up again.

2) go to the drake up to the west, on the mountainside ramp. If you see nothing there, just wait. If he is dead, wait. If he is engaged already, let him die. Sorry, but yeah. You can speed the despawning by using the seed here.

3) wait for him to fly in and land. If you are a healer, hot him up, but be watching down the ramp.

4) when you see the menders spawn, wait until they are almost to the drake, and start applying a bandage - the kind & level probably doesn't matter, but at 525, dense embersilk speeded it along nicely. Don't interrupt that. All 5 menders actually started mending on my drake.

5) now what happens depends on your class and spec. I only had 3 twilights spawn - 2 near the head, and 1 near the tail. Because of the cliff, you don't have to watch behind the drake, and because of the ramp, you don't need to worry about behind yourself.

use any kind of instant-cast AoE you can to catch the drakes immediately; you want them pulled to & focused on you. Most of the menders should be mending. If you are heal-capable, dispatch that first set, and get back to healing again. I had 4 of my original 5 still mending, and between that and my own heals (I'm boomkin specced, not resto), I never even saw a 2nd wave of twilights.

ok for me as a LVL 84 fire mage troll i found that the dragon directly behind the quest giver is impossible to do for non healing characters. i died 2 times trying it. The dragon on the right as you face the quest giver is much easier and i completed the quest in under 5 minutes and didn't even come close to dying. note i also waited for a new dragon to land before attempting each dragon. Hope that helps and remember the blue dragons come from 2 directions on the easier one and get the dragons to agro on you before they attack the healers with instant cast spells works really well ;)

Took a while but I worked this out. The health of the Menders is not what achieves the quest. It is the health of THEIR target, the big red dragons, so keep a tag on THEIR health, to see how you are progressing. I helped keep 4 menders alive until the first big dragon was healed. Soon as he got up and flew, the menders set off for their next target. Then I had to keep those menders alive again, while keeping my eye on how the NEXT big red guy was healing. Soon as he got healed, I got "5 from 5" and job done. This quest takes a while. Stay focused on the way that the menders are healing the big red guys.

I was having the same problem with the menders not healing at all...all of the dragons kept dying and not a single mender would heal. However, once I completed and turned in the Life From Death quest, all of the menders were healing as intended on the very next dragon I went to. I also noticed that once the menders started healing, there were fewer twilight drakes; they would fly down 2-3 at a time, but after I killed them there was a considerable break before the next group showed up.

So In order to finish this quest, I had to have help. It is a royal pain in the a** to do. My lvl 85 guildie whom was a druid came out to do the dps. I healed the dragon and even though the drakes kept coming in so did the menders. So I got task stage complete. I recommend taking help for this task.

Pretty sure all the problems everyone is having is because this quest gets bugged easily. The menders just sit there and never heal, regardless of if you kill the attacking drakes or not. Best bet is just to let the dragon die and find a new one that won't respawn bugged.

As if the Maw of IsoRath quests weren't bugged enough right before this one...

This quest seems to be broken at the moment, the drake's werent healing the dragon so you could never finish the quest. Fortunately as a pally could i just heal the dragon to full HP myself and then i got credit.

Classes that can't heal are out of luck.

I was able to complete this quest on my 85 mage. The quest doesn't sound hard, but it was definitely harder than it should have been.

This quest is definitely bugged and very random. By that I mean, sometimes the menders will heal, sometimes they won't. Likewise, sometimes the menders stop healing when they are hit by a blue dragon, sometimes they don't stop healing.

My advice is find a big dragon that is actually being healed by the menders. If you can't heal the big dragon yourself, start fighting the blue dragons. Try to hit the blue dragons as soon as they are within range for you.

If the all menders stop healing, stop fighting the dragons - you'll never make it. Go to another big dragon and see if its going better over there. If it isn't, wait until the big dragon dies and respawns, then try again.

This quest seems to be bugged, as some others in the comments here say. I've found a solution that worked for me; here's how to do it:

The bugged part of this quest is that some of the Menders doesn't start channeling their heals. So the way to fix this is to let a Twilight Wyrmkiller kill one of the menders that isn't channeling, after a minute or so a new Mender will come and take his place, and if you're lucky this one won't bug out.

Another way to do it is just to wait for a new dragon, and see if the menders bug or not, and if they do not bug you obviously do the quest - and if they do bug let the Wyrmkillers kill off the dragons and wait for the next one.

Don't waste time on this. It's yet another terribly confusing, bugged out piece of crap quest. Cost me nice chunk of change in repairs to figure that out, and not one mender showed as "defended" or whatever is supposed to happen.

I managed to do this on my warlock, even though the quest bugged and killing the twilight dragons wasn't working.
I used an Embersilk bandage on one of the big dragons as it was close to full health and immediately completed the "Vermillion Menders Defended" portion of the quest.

I was running around until 5 Vermillion Menders spawned and started running towards a big dragon, then they started to heal it. A tip: you can heal the dragon yourself to make the quest complete faster.

Description

Our dragons are returning from battle covered in Twilight corrupted flame and pursued by Twilight drakes.

My menders can tend to our dragons' wounds, but they must be defended. Keep the drakes off of my menders. Lend your healing to our dragons as well if you are able.

Thank you for your help with this. Our battles for Grim Batol are never-ending. We need to get our strongest dragons back into the battle as soon as possible.
