as far as i know and from questing since 4.0.3a has gone live. this

"Go to the Mage Quarter at the western end of the city and speak with Archmage Malin at the foot of the tower there. He will speed your return to Theramore."

is broken hope they fix it!

When talking to Archmage Malin the clickable "speech bubble" says that you were sent from Highlord Bolvar. Lol? He's the Lich King now so that doesn't make any sense continuity wise. I realize that it's a remnant from the old vanilla version of this quest and that it's a small issue, of course, but hopefully it gets fixed... eventually.

It's as Rosedrop mentioned. I used this port several times until I hit lvl 51 at which point the teleport from Malin is no longer available.

Currently (as of the patch atop of this message), the teleport seems to be working for my level 85 character.

Can someone clarify for me. If I DON'T hand this in, then I CAN use the teleport from Malin? (till I turn it in, that is). I just don't want to turn it in prematurely. Thanks.

Never EVER turn this quest in, unless you're a mage. It's a free teleport from Stormwind to Theramore.

I am level 60, and this totally worked for me today. Went to Malin, talked to him, and he ported me back to Theramore. Simple.

Long ago they fixed this by setting a "max level" to the teleport to avoid high levels from using this as a quick transport to Theramore -now with Cataclysm launched it again works like before their level fix, thus at 85 you can keep this quest and use the teleport when ever you need to get to Theramore asap. ;)

For a reusable teleport from Theramore to Stormwind Keep, keep the previous Proof of Treachery and speak to Lady Jaina Proudmoore.
For a reusable teleport from Mage Quarter (Stormwind) to Theramore, keep Return to Jaina and speak to Archmage Malin.

And yes, after you've done the Theramore's Fall scenario, using the dialog to teleport makes you arrive high above ground, where the top floor of the tower used to be. You should be ready for that plunge with a Slow Fall effect. You can also visit Zidormi at the far end of the western bridge out of Theramore and return to the pre-destruction phase, if you wish to avoid the fall.

After completing Theramore's Fall, Malin will still teleport you to the same location he used to... the top floor of the tower.

As of 5.0.5, you can still use this quest to teleport to Theramore, however you might want to use slow fall or levitate, because it teleports you exactly on the same spot it used to before - high up the tower :D

So, I'm trying to puzzle out the lore of this quest chain and how it fits with the vanilla-era The Missing Diplomat quest, since removed form the game. Varian was kidnapped twice?

So, that's the Alliance quest , which is according to the this guide should not turn in to get reusuble teleport from Stormwind to Theramore (Dustwallow marsh, Kalimdor). All this requires about 34 level, if your level is significantly higher, you need to enable show hidden tasks on the minimap.

And traditionally, for getting to this quest you have to do several others. Optional part, you may skip it:
The Call of Kalimdor, then Flight to Theramore
OR
Hero's Call: Dustwallow Marsh!
Next, required part:
1. Traitors Among Us, then Propaganda War
2. A Disturbing Development - 5 quests.
3. Jaina Must Know - 2 quests.
A rather small amount of just 9 quests, for getting to the promised couple: Proof of Treachery и Return to Jaina. Choose what you need: teleport from Theramore to Stormwind (the first quest) or from Stormwind to Theramore (second one). You can leave only one of them but not both, bilateral teleport will not be given.

If you're looking for Archmage Malin, he isn't one of the mage's standing around as you enter the tower, he isn't one of the mages spread out through the giant new portal room either. He is 'at the base of the tower'. He is outside, down at the foot of the ramp. If you have flying you'd never see him, plus he doesn't have a '?' or anything over him, he doesn't glow, nothing.
