This quest can get buggy and not switch your bars when you use the quest-item. If this happens, in this quest (or any other, I made a post about the same issue on a different quest) you can do a macro.

I tried to do the same with button two and three (in case there were more spells than one), however, they didn't seem to do anything, but there might be more than one spell still.

All I did was spam that macro and he died though :)

There are two abilities you have, one is a flame shield to reduce the damage you take by 95%, and the second is an attack that deals massive damage. Keep your shield up (10 second duration) and use your attack while your shield is up.

If your a shadow priest or another healing hybrid and your quest bugs DON'T WORRY. I was easily able to kite him around with dots up, bubbling to reduce damage and popping shadowfiend whenever possible. Note that this mob can be feared. Easy fight even without the quest item.

One of the worst quests made by Blizzard the thing is buggy as hell the bars
don't change even with the macro you still die. This quest just SUCKS all around!

Just want to point out the item you're given for this quest doesn't have a cooldown, so if you don't get him in the first minute of uptime, use it again and then you should be able to finish him off.

The simplest thing I've found to do is to simply keep spamming the following sequence until he dies:

1, 1, 1, 2, 1, 1, 1, 2, ....

Will work pretty quickly and will always keep the shield up if you press the buttons right after the GCD expires.

I would also like to point out, that if you feel that way inclined, as a BM hunter, this is pathetically easy to kill WITHOUT the item. Quite slow but with a turtle spec'd out to tank, it barely got below 90% and only because i let mend pet drop off out of lazyness.

Yes i know, i could have killed the boss in like 10 seconds flat with the item, but i was bored and wanted a challenge. Sadly i should have used a different pet as my turtle made it far too easy.

if you have this quest and you try to use stealth or shadow dance the bar that you get from using the pops up and has your slot 1 slot 2 and slot 4 spells on them, just thought i would mention this so other players don't think their rouge is bugged like i did at first

I was very disappointed when I just did the quest during MoP. To my recollection, we used to become Ascendants -- the really snazzy humanoid-shaped Elementals -- for this quest. Now we just become transparent and pale red. Very sad that we lost the cool part of this quest :(

Just want to add for anyone that comes here, that as of patch 5.3.0 this quest worked perfectly fine for me. He is located at 64:64 in the area of "Gates of Sothann", also some people are saying their action bars got screwed up with the quest, this was NOT the case for me. Nothing went wrong at all, smooth sailing.

Description

We took Darkwhisper Gorge from the demons of the Burning Legion by force. We've held on to our territory pretty well so far, with one exception.

We recently lost the Gates of Sothann to a pit lord and his army. We cannot allow this to stand.

Use this talisman when you're near him. You'll gain the powers of a flame ascendant temporarily. Make it count.
