When you get this quest be sure to grab a chest of containment coffers and a Cantation of Manifestation from right next to the quest giver.

Go to the apothecary district and look for the expert alchemist and alchemy supplier and use the scroll to see the elementals. It can spawn 2-4 of these elementals so try to kite one away but be sure to bring it back to where they spawn in order to contain the stunned elemental.

Fight an elemental until it stops attacking, right click the box to capture it, open the box to collect the coffer.

Died the first time since four spawned on me and I got dazed twice/ if you're doing it slo I suggest kiting the one away.

Just use the scroll on the stairs. You will only get one at the time coming up...

How to solo:

Stay on the steps (top of the steps is fine) and right click on the scroll. One ghost will spawn closer to you than the others. Do your frost nova so you ONLY get one in the trap. Then run, the other 3 will follow you a very short way, then they will disappear.

As soon as they disappear, the 4th one (the one you trapped) will be after you. Kite it back to the store, and kill it there (easiest way is frost nova again inside the area, then blast it). Capture it in the containment coffer (by right clicking on the box in your stash), it will suck the spirit into the coffer, and you right click once more on the coffer on the floor.

Repeat twice more. Pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

Just make sure you only trap one.

I have a trial cd-key. So I can't buy healing potion. But through that I completed this quest. The best solution wrote danyjr 3 months ago :-)

But be careful, don't go after the door-step (see screenshot where is the "Filled containment" <- I'm talking about that) OR the Rift Shadow will disappear OR you won't be able to create a containment coffer).

Very easy when done correctly.
Stand at about 56,68 at the top of the stairs, and use the scroll. 4 elementals will immediately come running towards you, fire blast one and move back across the bridge, by then the others would have gone. Then bring the elemental back to your original location, and use the container when he stops attacking.
Repeat to complete quest :)

I found using the scroll to be just about an instant death at level 15/16, since all 3 or 4 elementals attack you at once. The best way to do the quest is to pull only one at a time, which is easy if you DON'T USE THE SCROLL.

Start between the alchemist shop and the bridge/moat. Inch closer to where Algernon (the shopkeeper) is standing, casting Arcane Explosion as you go. Eventually you will catch one of the Rift Spawns in the AOE, it'll aggro. Just do the standard mage thing - Fire Blast, Frost Nova, Ice Bolt, Fireball, Fire Blast again - quite easy when it's alone. Once it's stunned, throw down a coffer and you're 1/3.

Rinse and repeat.

(If you're unlucky and your AOE hits more elementals than you can handle, just drop a Frost Nova and run away. Or proceed to use one of the strategies outlined above.)

that was easy just go to the apothecarium and right click the scroll. then kill each of the mini voids then click the box while focused on them then click each of the boxes and your good to go! oh and if you need help just ask a high lvl in UC

I did it as a level 20 mage, its simpel at first cast a frost nova then use Blizzard over them and then just kite them with Arcane Explosion

Just a note but the rift spawns do NOT despawn no matter where you go. I tried as a 20 and was almost killed because two spawned. I had to frost nova and bandage and barely made it by spamming Arcane explosion at the end.

when i am going to use the Cantation of Manifestation it came out an error "it requires mana rift disturbance" what is that?

hi friends!... i do all of the things but i can't see the GHOST!! i don't know why! but i see "resist" so i think: can't see cos they resist my Cantation of Manifestation... help me please! thank you.....

I have tried clicking on the scroll while standing on every spot by the Alchemist shop--nothing happens, no matter what I do or try.

Anyone who has successfully completed this quest want to help me....please?

Okay, call me a noob.
this is my first mage, but she's pretty twink for a level 22 (enchanted blue gear) and I still died.
she's a fire mage, so the frost advice doesnt really help. Iknow, I know, frost is great for CC, but I did pretty well in PvP as a 19 mage, which should count for SOMETHING.

So, still on this quest, but lets hear some FIRE advce, or some basic tips for those of us who havent played mages very much.

I'll share what I find.

Got it.
I was on the WRONG steps. Activate the scrolll on the BRIDGE, not on the STEPS (which would imply the STEPS going down to the apothecary).
Then, pull one mob (as mentioned before.)
Got my first with 98% health.

I stood on the top of the wall where the bridge comes across and breaks into two staircases to the main level.

Just completed at lvl 21, soloed in seconds. It is tough when 4 spawn and are lvl 16, but freeze them all, back up and arcane explosion the hell out of them! I used a potion, but trashed them all, then, u click the box, and it opens this sweet ghostbuster thing opens and sucks in the ghost! Loved the ghostbuster thing!

first of all get the chest of containment coffers and the scroll from next to the questgiver then go and stand at 56,67 in the apothecarium and use the scroll - as the spirits come towards u select one and when its in range frost nova it - then run away so the others disappear - run back and finish off the spirit u nova'ed - when it stops fighting use the containment coffer

If you hit more than one, and try to run away, whichever ones you hit will follow you. if you only hit one and run, the others will despawn after a little bit. you dont have to take them very far before they despawn. i actually did this whole quest from the stairs that form the side of the bridge across the moat, which seemed to be far enough away from the spawning point for the ones i hadnt hit to de-spawn. i then killed the one i had hit and did the quest pretty easily.

-this implies using non-AoE spells :P just frostbolt one and run a bit til the others despawn and away you go.

Danyir's method works perfect. Stand at top of stairs, cast scroll, frost nova one, run to de-summon the others, kite the one back to the shop and captture. Rinse and repeat twice and its done in two minutes, easy as pie as a 16.

Ok, all of what you said was really good help, thanks but when I try to do it it says "Requires Mana Rift Disturbance". What does that mean?

also if you are a warlcok you can see the rift spawns using detect invisibility

When I use the coffin it says that it requires a stunned rift spawn. But...how do they get stunned then?
If i hit them enough they will just die, they won't stun or anything.

I found this quest to be a bit too hard to kill them when I was at the lower level I got it at. It was easier once I was level 26. Probably because I'm a noob at the game but, just lending my experience with the quest. :)

I am trying to do the quest and I simply cant.
When I "kill" one, he stays stunned and I use Chest of Containment Coffers but it says that I need "Mana rift disturbance", where do I get it?

I didnt understand these ways, so i tried it a different way. I'm a lvl 20 mage, and i finished this pretty easy. Like stated above, i started out by the stairs next to the moat. Then, After clicking the scroll, i inched foward and used arcane explosion. Once i caught 2 or 3, i use frost nova, ran back alittle and used blizzard about 3 times. Then i threw down a chest and ran across the moat (since my health was really low) until i was not targeted anymore (which is just across the moat). When i ran back across the moat, the spirits were gone and there was my filled coffer waiting for me. Then i refilled my health and mana and started it over again. Hope this helps.

So as of 3.2 all I had to do was nova them and spam arcane blast. I was at level 15 with leveling gear on. Three spawned and it was a close thing so perhaps with four spawns a healthpot would be necessary. They stuck around long enough while stunned for me to get all three trapped.

Seems to be bugged sinds 3.3 nothing happends when using the scroll reporting to GM but its Christmas so dont think i wil get a quick response

Just tried doing this today and even when I lower the spawns to 3 HP they don't stop attacking. A little frustrating.

Hard quest, but do-able. First time I tried to do this one, 4 elementals spawned and owned me, which I found very frustrating since I had to run 5 mins to ressurect *sigh* But then I realized that when they spawn they're in 1-2-1 formation and there's one closer to you than others. Cast frost nova, freeze him and start running. 3 remaining elementals will be after you, but they will give up and dissapear after about 2-3 seconds and then the 4th elemental comes and you just spam frostbolt / fireball and get him to 1% use the scroll and voilá! Do that three times and you're done. :)

this is one of those quests where its like "f - it, onto the next quest". ive read the solutions here, but it is too involved technically and i still cant make it work after a few attempts. maybe if undercity wasnt such a pain to get in and out of i would keep trying. but there are so many other quests at this level offering the same xp reward for one-quarter the effort, so why even bother with this.

I found the cheesiest way to do this ever. I'm playing on a Vanilla Private Server, but I had the level 60 elite Undead guard kill them, for me. I still credit for using the box on them. Got it done in like 10 seconds.

This quest was marked obsolete by Blizzard and cannot be obtained or completed.

Obtain a Cantation of Manifestation and a Chest of Containment Coffers from behind Anastasia Hartwell. Bring 3 Filled Containment Coffers, the Chest of Containment Coffers and the Cantation of Manifestation to Anastasia in the Undercity.

Description

Algernon's alchemist shop in the Apothecarium is the locus of a strange disturbance. Invisible creatures, made solely of magic, wander the shop--there must be a reason, and we must find it!

Investigate the disturbance and capture those creatures. Take a chest of coffers and a scroll from behind me. Use the scroll at the shop to make the creatures visible, subdue them with your spells, then throw down a coffer to capture them. Return with the filled coffers, the empty coffers and the cantation.
