There are the four items needed to complete this quest and two of those item will require an additional quest to be picked up.

Whitestone Oak Lumber: This is dropped from the goblin woodworkers inside deadmines inside the mast making room. Its the room with the large logs stacked around.

Jordans Refined Ore Shipment: This will require an additional quest acuired from Bailor Stonehand inside Thelsamar. http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=6241 Hes down stairs inside the house with the tailoring merchant outside. Once you acuire the quest the ore can be found from a box at aproximetly 71,21
http://www.wowhead.com/?object=92420 Return the box to Stonehand and he will give you the refined Ore.

Jordans Smithing Hammer: No additional quest is needed. You will need to travel to Silverpine Forest to Shadowfang keep which is located just north of Pyrewood Village. You will find the hammer inside the stables located in the courtyard of the instance.

The stablesare located just north of the letter B on the map. If you are around lvl 20 you will either need a full group or a lvl 60 to get you to that area.

Purified Core Gem: The final piece requires that you travel to Kalimador. You will need to take the boat from menethil to Darnassus (Teldrassil). Be sure to stop by the gryphon masters to acuire new flightpaths. You will need to take the boat from Teldrassil to darkshore which is just on the otherside of the dock. Once in darkshore speak with Thundris Windreaver in Auberdine http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=3649 After getting the quest "Seeking the Kor Gem" Head south to Ashenvale and the entrence to Blackfathom Deeps is located around 15,15. Its located inside the ruins of a temple, you will see a pit with water at the bottom and stairs taking you down to it. Once you are in teh water dive and you will find that you can swim under one of the walls and actually enter Blackfathom Deeps. You will not have to travel deep inside, it usually drops off the second or third Wrathtail. Once you have the gem travel back to Thundris Windreaver.

Once you have the four pieces travel back to ironforge and you turn in the quest he will begin to craft Verigans Fist for you http://www.wowhead.com/?item=6953

I was lvl 23 when soloing for the gem @BFD

There was 1 satyr. Killed him first

Then there was 1 Blackfathom Tide Priestess.

1. I used seal of crusader on her (judge)
2. Ran the way i came. This because otherwise patrol will come later and kill u.
3. Used seal of command rest of time.
Cast holy light when priestess heals and 1 FoL if needed
4. Keep fighting and priestress runs out of mana and cant heal
5. When she starts to run use HoJ. We didnt use HoJ before cause when she runs she will pull others (most likely).

Btw I used retriaura cause frostbolt goes trough armor anyway.

So here everything in list
-Use HoJ only in the end of fight (when she runs)
-Heal when she heals (you can outlast)
-Pull him away from the path where patrol moves.

My english sucks when I write sametime as I walk.

The smithing hammer is probably the hardest part of this quest due to difficulty in finding groups to Shadow Fang Keep. It is however soloable. I did this at level 22 solo so it is definetly doable. Some tips to doing this are that if you have to fight mobs in a group try pulling them near the entrance to the instance. Kill one of them and zone out. Eat + drink and come back in and repeat until you have cleared that pull. For the part where you free the guy from the cell, you can just jump down and free him and if you die he will still open the gate for you. In the couryard, work on clearing the left wall so that you have a clear path to the stables. If you get the debuff that periodically summons the spirits using concecration when they spawn quickly kill them.

I never thought I'd say this, but the LFG tool saved me a lot of time on this one! For the SFK part, I found a group that was 4-manning SFK, and asked if I could join just to run in and grab the hammer. They were fine with it, and had already cleared past. Now I'm on my way to IF to get the Fist at lvl22!

Might want to pick up "Onward to Ashenvale" from Thundris Windreaver while you're there... 9 Silver and some XP to talk to somewhere in Astranaar, the inn-city in Ashenvale. About a 2 minute run (non-speed-increase) from the top of the zone, and also where the flighpath is.

Solo'ed with a 24 Ret. Paladin. Hardest part was SFK for the Hammer took both Blessing of Protection, and Divine Protection to take down the Gaurd at the prison cells. From there just had the Mage dude open the door and carefully walked to the Hammer. Just glad I didn't have to waste LoH :)

As a lvl 25 ret spec I was able to solo the first deadmines boss to get to the goblins after several unsuccessful attempts. I had to use BoP, Divine Protection, Lay on Hands, 2 Silk Bandages, 2 Healing Potions, a Fishliver Oil and it was still very close. Needless to say it will save you a lot of trouble if you get a group for this part.

I had this experience at Level 24:

Refined Ore Shipment & Kor Gem - Easy to get solo.

Smithing Hammer - Hard, but definitely doable solo - hardest part is the two on one mobs, and releasing the prisoner to open the gate for you - luckily you can die after freeing him (make sure you ask him to open the gate!) and he'll still open the door, just give it a minute before you release to the graveyard.

Lumber - I'm having trouble with this and will likely have to find a group if I want to do it at 24. Rhak'zor just hits too hard for me to stay up - easy to get to him, and you can pull him without attracting the two mobs near him - but the only way to do this is like the guy above did, and even then I think you need a lil' luck. So basically get a group unless you wait a few levels...

Hey i was just wondering if this quest was really worth it. I know that the mace is supposed to be a sick weapon and all that but this quest has alot of running around to do in un-known areas for me so i will have to walk there which im not to happy about :(
Any suggestions if i should or should not do this quest?
P.S. Do i need to do this quest to start my next paladin quest?

Oh my god! I went into the blackfathorns deeps and i got the gem from the first one i killed. Awsome! Easy as hell. Now to hand in the quest and get my weapon.

Regarding soloing SFK....

I did it on my level 20 retri pala with green items apart from the Cruel Barb from the deadmines, would recommend a few health pots too.

To reiterate what one of the other posters said about SFK, it is advisable to pull multiple mobs back to the entrance, or if too far away just kill one and try to run out as fast as you can, for the gate I just used Divine Protection and quickly talked to the NPC, death is a given here.

One thing I found out is that when up the second set of stairs I think it was (There will be a raised platform to your left with a wolf and a worgen on it) you can aggro the worgen from the lower platform and the wolf doesn't come after you along with him, maybe a fluke, worth testing though, but also worth hanging a right whilst getting rid of the other two mobs so you don't agro him too soon.

When in the courtyard it is fairly easy to get along the left side, there is only one double pull and I found it best to get rid of one of the wolves and one the ghosts to make sure I didn't get agro problems. The worgen do put on an anti-magic shield but it has a short duration and shouldn't cause too much bother.

Once you have killed the mobs on the left by the wall you can get into the stables just enough to get the quest item without agroing anyone inside.

Hope this helps someone, and as this is my first post to wowhead I hope I didn't make any community nonos.

Solo'd as a lvl 23/24.

SFK as noted, takes a bit of practice but not too bad.
Ore, np.
Got gem on 1st mob.
Deadmines is definitely the trickiest. Got to Rhak'zor and tried him unbuffed (apart from aura and blessing) almost got him. The returned with: well fed, stamina and intellect scrolls. Beat him down with Razor's Edge and the shield from the earlier part of the quest. Finish off with a mana pot and Lay on Hands and Rhak goes down.

Gear was greens except as noted and spec was ret/prot evenly split.

Just soloed the entire quest at level 22. It CAN be done.

The Ore Shipment is cake since Blizz nerfed the ogres in Loch Modan. The Kor Gem is just a lot of running to get to BFD. You have to go underwater and into the cave, but you don't need to enter the actual instance.

The tricky part starts with the smithing hammer. The pulls in SFK are all 2 at a time, if done right, and very easily managed (I didn't need to exit the portal, but I suppose you could do that if you're not burning pots/scrolls/elixirs). As said above, the one death in the jail cell area is unavoidable - that boss simply cannot be taken down alone at that level. All I did was jump down, bubble, open the cell and talk to the NPC, and then died. As long as you don't release until the dude gets the door open, you can run back and finish up with minimal effort.

In Deadmines, Rhak'zor is very soloable with the right consumables up, and even easier if you spend a little money on a Clefthide Armor Kit for your pants. After that, it's a cakewalk to the mast room. Watch out for the pat after Rhak'zor, then just pull the first goblin in the room and get your lumber.

Personally, I think doing it all solo is a good way to hone your skill and challenge your wits a bit - plus the XP is a little better. :-) I picked up the quest after I dinged 22, and was nearly 23 before I turned it in, doing no other questing in the interim.

Witestone oak lumber can be find in Deadmines,lumber room goblins drop it...

purified kor gem.. u need to speak with Thundris Windreaver in Auberdine,Darkshore. take the boath from Wetlands or Azuremyst ilse (the boath in azuremyst ilse are around the exodar coords 20,54) he gives u a quest where u shall take to Blackfanthom deeps and kille the mobs before entrance.. good luck to find the items

Also, while going for the Ore in Loch Modan it can be wise to pick up the Wanted quest for Chok'sul as that's just two more minutes you need to spend up there for some nice rewards and experience

Started this quest at level 21, finished at level 22. Getting the gem and ore were easy, just took some travel time. I died once getting the wood. The sub boss was a long, but easy fight, bring a good healing potion with you, and take your time, he's not to hard to beat. Watch the goblins when entering the ship building room, only pull the one, and stay close to the door, else you'll get mobbed. The hammer took the longest. When traveling, stick to the center of the road so you don't pull agro. I died once in the dungeon, at the cells, pull carefully. When you get to the court yard, like the others said, stick to the left side, against the wall. You'll deal with groups of 2 while being attacked by minor lower level spirits. Once you make it to the stables grab the hammer and hearth out.

Soloed the entire quest at Level 21, with no twink gear at all, all quest gear and stuff that dropped for me. Loch Modan and BFD are easy. Just take it slow in SFK, and you shouldn't have too much of a problem, just kite packs of two to the instance portal and zone out immediately after killing one. When you get close to Rethilgore, strip naked, use Hand of Protection, and talk to the mage who opens the courtyard door before the mobs kill you. At that point you can resume your slow crawl towards Jordan's hammer. The only truly difficult part is Rhahk'Zor in the Deadmines. To beat him, I had to use Divine Protection, a Healing Potion, Lay on Hands, and Lifeblood (rank 2). I don't think I could have done it without Lifeblood.

I just did the quest.

SFK was the hardest part. But I manage to do it. First boss was a real pain. Took me 4-5 tries before I found out how to solo him.
A tip, pull the worgs + boss to the entrance. Kill one wolf, zone out. Go in, pull them again and kill last worg. Zone out and zone in and kill the boss.

Did it as full ret at lvl 21. Used shield + 1h axe with ret aura. Bring some mana/health pots and water!

To help with pulls, a good skill is Hand of Reckoning. It can pull from 30 yards away and deals 1 damage, which might be the 1 damage you need to kill it.

i solod the entire quest as a lvl 22-23 paladin with retribution talents, and a shield and onehander.
in sfk u just have to make sure u dont pull more than 2 at a time, and ur fine.
i did all the parts without any pots or lay on hands.
Having a decent shield with ret aura is enough.

Soloed it starting being just lvl21 well geared (mostly green lvl16-20 items) prot paladin in Loch Modan, died twice in the Deadmines (once first Boss (forgot Lay on hands), and patrol after, wasnt healed and ready to take them after killing the big mofo), but got the wood. Did a few other quests along the way and hit lvl 22. BFD was easy, first kill and the area was cleared anyway....SFK wasnt that hard, pulled once 3 mobs, but was able to survive without Lay on hands. I only died once after the gate was open. Aggroed too many mobs at the left side before the stables, they being immune a lot, and then was too late to hit Lay on hands in the end...

So died a few times along the way, but was really surprised being able to solo it as a new "crappy" player :P

Very fun and good practise to learn the ropes a bit...the weapon is so good I will respec to retribution ;) Almost hit lvl23 after this chain quest including some other quests. So definately soloable starting at lvl21 even for me!

Solo'd as a level 20 Draenei Ret using a lvl 16 2H mace and random quest greens. Buffs were Ret aura and Kings. I died zero times. Make sure you bring atleast one stack each of food and water and some potions.

The ore and gem portions are easily solo'able. They do each require a secondary quest (from Thelsamar and Auberdine respectively).

Hammer in SFK: For the two-mob pulls, stand next to the entrance in case you need to zone out. Start your heals when you're at about half life, and try to save your Hammer of Justice for the Seal of Command judgement if you're ret. After the first pull, you can solo aggro the next wolf by panning your camera around the stone wall, right clicking him, and jumping up and down on the opposite side of the wall. On the ledge leading to the first hallway, you can solo aggro the worgen mob from the platform below. After clearing the top level of the room with the prisoners, you can jump on the ledge right beside the stairs and solo aggro the worgen under you. For the boss, I aggro'd the wolf closest to the stairs and ran back to the entrance of the instance. Start your heals at about 66% life and use a bubble when needed. After killing one wolf, zone out, rest up, and wait for bubble to finish cooling down. Go back in and pull the boss to the entrance again. This time, focus on the boss. I downed him and the remaining wolf without zoning. When you get the door to the courtyard opened, focus on the mobs along the left wall. I pulled the patrols just to be on the safe side. Also, pull back up the stairs into the hall to avoid any more adds. The hammer is on a crate in the stables.

Lumber in Deadmines: Work your way up to the ogre by pulling carefully. After SFK, you shouldn't have any problems with the single pull elites in here. The ogre is by far the hardest part of this quest. Make sure you have a bubble and LoH up. He's stunnable and does a knockdown. I started a heal after every knockdown. I had to use a mana pot, bubble, and LoH here. HEADS UP: I haven't played Alli in a while so I forgot about the pat that spawns after you kill the ogre. It's a two pull of elites; easily dispatched. Make your way to the woodworking area. Be careful when you pull the goblins; there is a pat that comes from the left. I made a very bad pull and grabbed 3 of them. I got lucky and killed the last one with about 40 life remaining. I don't know if the droprate is 100%, but I looted the first one I killed mid-combat and he had it.

I ended up getting about 1.75 levels of experience (non-rested) from solo'ing all of the chain. Hope this helps some of you.

To those of you wondering if you should complete this quest... the answer is yes.

I don't care if you're doing this at level 20 with same-level groups, doing it then with a 80 powering you through. Or even if you solo it at 40 or even waiting until you're 80 and going back to solo it then. Just do the quest.

At the end of the day you can't look at yourself in the mirror and call yourself a Paladin if you haven't done the Verigan's Fist quest and the Charger quest. If you can't handle it, go roll a DK.

I just ran this solo just to see if I could, on my baby off-server-alt Paladin, starting at 20. I died about a dozen times (Half of those were because I not-so-brilliantly attempted to sneak past the patrol in the Deadmines that spawns after you down Rhakk'zor)

The one major hitch I hit was in the Mast room, where you retrieve the Whitestone Oak Lumber. Has anyone figured out a way to single-pull those goblins? When I went in there were a pair of them that alternated their patrol patterns so that no matter what, you're guaranteed to pull at least three of them (I pulled five >_>)

I managed to get the wood by focusing one of them down while keeping myself healed long enough for him to die, then doing a corpse-run to loot his body (BE SURE to pull them back outside the door if you use this tactic!)

Anyway, I'm off to collect my shiny new whuppin' stick :)

Good luck! It's better to really just get a group (The fact I was able to solo this far in without ANY heirloom/twink gear, as Ret, shows how easy these early instances are to tank ;)), but I just wanted to prove to myself that I could do it.

Edit: I'd also just like to thank everyone that posted here. I wouldn'tve been able to pull this off without the excellent advice others have contributed. :)

Just talked to a GM about this & as part of patch 4.0.1 removing class-specific quests from the game, this can no longer be finished. The GM said that also applies to quests like An Earnest Proposition.

If you finish The Test of Righteousness before
You can still get this quest, but can't finish it.
Because Thundris Windreaver in Auberdine is killed by tsunami.
So you can't get purified Kor Gem.
I get Jordan's Refined Ore Shipment.
But I forget when player enter Instance , Ore and this quest will disappear.

FLASH FLASH Wowhead: I just got this quest today November 21, 2011. The guy was standing by the tables for Pilgrim's feast at Ironforge. Maybe this is a quest that Blizzard rethought and brought back. But I did get the quest.

AYA! Blackfathom oracle dropped quest gem outside of dungeon and it was first kill XD not sure if droprate is 100% also ironbox in loch modan was dropped 1 strike so maybe it is 100% drop?
