Go over to the ship at 72,85. If you swim it is quicker but you will encounter a couple of makrura along the way. Go to the back of the ship near the paddlewheel. You will see a fairly large wooden section underwater. If you run your cursor over it the tooltip will indicate it to be the thinnest part of the ship.

Click on the Limpet mine in your inventory and your done. After your done Gazlowe can give you your next quest immediately.

For those unfamiliar with ship configuration (like myself), don't bother going onto the top of the ship itself via the dock - nothing is there! You can find the thinnest part of the hull by physically swimming underneath the ship!

Seems to be bugged at the moment - Gazlowe gave me no Goblin transponder majigger, so had to trek back to Rachet to get next quest. Bit of a pain, but meant I could smite more Theramore Commandoes en-route...

Edit: Thank you Toxeia (below me). Makes sense now, but why is this not explained in-game anywhere, I wonder? Obvious now that you come to mention it, but easy to miss if you're used to old WoW. Ah well, back to Alliance-killing...

You have to swim away once you set the mine or if your health is under 215 you will die if you stay

I was given this quest twice. I initially completed the quest, and the follow up quest, Ammo Kerblammo. I also go the achievement Northern Barrens Quests. Then, I came back at level 47 while working on Well Read and I noticed the ! above the quest giver's head. I took the quest, thinking it might be a different boat I have to blow up. I blew up the same boat, completed the quest.

Then I saw another ! on the map, by Barron Longshore. I got the quest to free him from his shackles again, The Baron's Demands. I did not pay attention to see if these 2 quest repeats counted twice towards my total quests done.

Edit: I also got to repeat the quests Investigate the Wreckeage and To Track a Thief. This time I did pay attention to my total quest count, and it increased by two!

Edit: I also noticed all these duplicate quests are marked as "weekly" on wowhead. If they are weekly, I'm wondering what their purpose is, and why they count towards the total quests done.

Also to note: For me that I know of, this quest doesn't show up on the "quest tracker" that wowhead provides for you characters. It tells you which quests you complete and which one you don't. This quest doesn't show up at all in the list.

Ironically, the "thinnest part of the hull" actually looks like the thickest part of the hull.

I asked a Game Master about this quest. The Game Master confirmed this is a bug and is not intended to be repeatable. They are looking into getting it fixed. The Game Master also told me to please not take advantage of this bug as knowingly taking advantage of a bug is actionable.

For definitions sake, a limpet mine is a type of naval mine attached to a target by magnets; they are so named because of their superficial similarity to the limpet, a type of mollusk.

Swim under the back of the ship where the wooden hydraulic wheel is. Place the limpet mine between that and the boat. That worked for me =]

No need to get on the ship for this. I swam down the coastline, took out a few makura along the way. The paddle wheel is on the ocean side, and if you walk on the bottom, looking at it, the thinnest part of the wood will be between the paddle wheel and body of the boat. It lightens when you are there and your tooltip will pop and tell you so. Right click on your limpet...and then swim away some. It will take life from you if you are too close! Once it has detonated, you accept the next quest related right then. :) Xiangtse ~ Pandaren Hunter ~ Level 19

There are plenty of comments here explaining to swim underwater to find the thinnest part of the hull; however, none of them actually explain that the hull of a ship is actually the ship itself minus the fittings, engine, etc.

Basically, always remember that the hull of a ship is the deck, the sides and the bottom of the ship. Best of luck! :)

Strangely, as of patch 8.0 even after you hand out the quest, the explosives stay on your inventory and you have to manually delete them.

Wasn't given a quest item, nor did the quest pop up with a "Complete" option after bombing the hull. Had to fly back to Ratchet to turn in. Not much of a hassle, but a little strange, considering Gazlowe still explicitly tells you to radio him on the stolen Gnomecorder, and then just...doesn't give it to you.

There! The hull is thinnest here, where the crankshaft meets the paddlewheel. And it's right next to the magazine!
