Just for the record, this only works at the above coordinates, and it only works if you're standing directly in front of the furnace, i.e., at the top of the ramp. I tried like fifty bajillion times from the other side of the furnace to no avail. Learn from my pain.

Heads up- the furnace is the big fire thing, not the skulls, I was using it forever in front of them with no success.

The furnace in the picture is not the only one that you can smelt the fragments at: it works at any of them.

Edit: I smelted the fragments at a furnace a little way to the southwest of that one.

If you aren't having success try standing *on* the criss-cross grating which looks like its in the fire - thats the only place I could get it to work

You have to stand right in front of the tornado at the top of the ramp, facing the tornado, even if you are on the other side, it will not work.

Anyone else wondering why they wouldn't let you smelt this stuff in a regular forge?

"Hey, go into this Scourge infested metal working facility and use one of their forges to smelt this Saronite."

Oh, the swirly firey thing that the elite is standing next to - that isn't it. I found that out and aggroed him by accident! It's the one a bit higher up the ramp near it!

Oooooh, what a world! What a world! I soooo wish I had come here first to find out the exact location of the spot. I was trying all of them. And I even killed the elite goober standing there, in hopes that he would be guarding the right spot.

It's the one with the ramp. You stand at the top, right next to the flames, but not necessarily in them. Like everyone else said.

The swirly firey tornado... if you stand directly in it... worked for me. Though you'll take damage and might be interrupted. Just back up so you're not in the flames so much. I first tried standing next to it (not in the flames) but nothing happened. You have to stand in the flames.

Since one can only complete the task once... I didn't have a chance to go up the ramp and try that location.

This has to be the most frustrating, dumbass quest ever! I should have been able to go there smelt and leave. But noooooooo! Whomever created this anal quest should be hung and tortured for every minute of torture he/she put me through trying to find "the spot"! REALLY?

Use the Bag of Jagged Shards near one of the bottom level Malykriss furnaces. Return to Crusader Olakin Sainrith at Blackwatch with the Smelted Metal Bar.

Description

<Olakin turns one of the shards over in an armored fist.>

These could pierce armor with enough force. We have to find out what they're made of and what the Lich King intends to do with them.

To the east, nestled next to Icecrown Citadel itself, lies Malykriss. From the few reports we have, it's full of smelting and smithing equipment. Bring these shards there, and smelt them in one of the open furnaces on the bottom level of Malykriss. Once the metal has been reformed, we can identify it.
