Very straightforward.

Go down into the ruined temple below the Taunka base and use Hammer to trigger the event.

As Stormhoof, use your attacks to kill Northwind, then pick up Horn and blow it to finish.

Takes 5 minutes from start to finish.

quest bugged for me twice. first time the hor didnt spawn, second time the horn did spawn, but was unable to use it and the north wind became a friendly target

It appears to be bugged, but the key is to first defeat Northwind as Stormhoof - Kite him around a bit and lower his HP, and then start beating up on him. When he gets to ~20%, Stormhoof automatically dies and you're returned to your own body, and the horn will spawn. If you die as Stormhoof before the event happens, the quest becomes bugged.

Quest worked fine for me. Used the AOE and melee skill on cooldown, while saving Earth Shock for the North Wind's Cyclone casts. Cyclone is a fairly slow cast, just make sure you have an enemy cast bar so you know when to interrupt.

When North Wind gets low, you automatically die as Stormhoof and are returned to your own body--just loot the horn next to North Wind's body and right click it to win.

Make sure you don't fall into the snowy bit in the center. The mob couldn't reach me and started evading.

It may be bugged. But i'll explain how it worked for me, so it might also work for others.

I just took the Q at first went down started the fight, realized the dude was supose to die so I let him and nothing dropped. Then I noticed during that fight, how easy it was to kite him since he was so god damned slow. I also noticed he couldn't go down the slope mesh when I fell down. so he took a long path around the crack to get to me, making it hard for my stormhoof to die.

The 2nd time I started the quest again. Used the lore hamemr in the Temple of Life. But now I just let Stormhoof live. As soon as the Elemental got weakened, stormhoof died and dropped the horn.

To do this quest you have to complete a chain of quests.

Xarantaur, the Witness
The Witness and the Hero
- Right as you leave the hut you find the first scroll next to the Tunka'lo Brave standing at the path up to the mountain top.
- The second scroll is on the way up to the mountain top next to Hapanu Coldwind.
- The third scroll is on the mountain top at the entrance of the inn.
Memories of Stormhoof
- Go to 62,41 (without coords: the top most cave north-west of Camp Tunka'lo) and speak with Chieftain Swiftspear inside the cave. You have to click his chat bubble only once and just wait until he finishes. Some people reported they had to click it more often to actually start the story.
Distortions in Time
- Use The Chieftain's Totem to close the yellow rifts in the cave.
- Turn in Distortion in Time and Memories of Stormhoof at Xarantaur at Camp Tunka'lo.
Where Time Went Wrong & The Hero's Arms
- Enter the cave at 67,45 (without coords: just go straight north from Camp Tunka'lo and enter the first cave you see).
- Now start to kill Scion of Storm mobs which are inside the cave. They will drop both Stormhoof's Spear and Stormhoof's Mail.
- Loot the parts that lay around in the cave to complete Where Time Went Wrong.
- Turn in both quests at Xarantaur.
Finally you can do Changing the Wind's Course
- Go to the ruined temple at 64,47 (without coords: west of Camp Tunka'lo) and use The Lorehammer. Now you're Stormhoof and you have to kill Northwind. Use you're AE when ever it's up and shock him when he tries to cast. The rest of the fight you can run from him since he's pretty slow and wait for your CDs to refresh. As he dies he will drop a horn. Loot the horn and blow it.
- Turn the quest in at Xarantaur and choose your reward.

It seems the quest get bugged if u accidentally activate your only character's skills while controlling Stormhoof (which actually happened quite a lot as well when controlling other mounts). Try not to spam your skills and use mouseclicks instead of hotkeys. Managed to complete it on my second try.

If you get bugged and left Stormhoof before getting Northwind to wind, don't attack on Northwind and just run out of the ruin, that should reset the event rather than having northwind bugged at 20% and have to reget quest after waiting some.

fought as Stormhoof just fine then SH died and i fought the north wind as a 77 lock just fine then he started spinning over helpless yelling some crap and i couldnt find the horn to use..where is this said horn? people are saying its bugged i agree its probobly bugged...

talked to alot of people and figured out the main bug. the horn doesn't drop. If your experiencing this problem simply try it some more times try abandoning it again and such. some people had to try it as many as 8 times to do it. im on my 3rd and still no horn drop.

#1 Use the Lorehammer in the Temple of Life
#2 Defeat the North Wind by casting Storm Call from range and using Earth Shock against his Cyclone.
#3 At 20% he is weakened and you will be "dismounted". Pick up the horn that spawns on ground.
#4 Use the Lorehammer again and then use the Horn of Elemental Fury next to the North Wind.
#5 Deliver quest at Camp Tunka'lo

bugged for me too the first time. abandoned and retook it.

waited for the north wind to disappear and battle it once again as stormhoof.

eventually stormhoof will die, and you know that you're not bugged anymore when at that time when stormhoof dies, he'll yell:

" The horn! Use the horn on it while it's weak!"

a horn will be by his side, just loot it and use.

i think this quest is bugged. i think you have to use the horn on him very quickly otherwise it will say you cant do that yet. fight him again if you are too slow, as for the horn not dropping, that happened to me twice so... just fight him untilyou get it

I think you have to take him under 20% which means you have to hit him hard or w/ a lightning storm or shock around 21%. It bugged out for me 3 times where i couldn't use the horn on him @ 20%. 4th time i hit him hard around 21% taking him to 19%. Only then could i use the horn. :(

However, this quest like ALOT! are buggy as hell.

Took many attempts on this, no horn drops, evading, resetting.

Eventually it worked, used some of the above tips, not sure if the reason but I did it eventually when clicking the actions buttons, rather than my shortcut keys.

For me, Stormhoof does not auto attack and the rhino attack doesn't work. It's impossible to kill North Wind like that.

you have to walk backwards while firing off the lightening, and hit stun just as he's casting

once he's down to 30% the melee feature will work, HIT IT and it stuns him ---- take the horn ---- its huge and it will "gear over" then blow it. wait 20 seconds and you'll get the (complete)

Don't even use the melee attack, I couldn't ever get it to seem to work. Here is what I discovered and should help you kill him.

The basic premise is to kite him around while waiting for your lightning spell to come off cooldown. It took me 3 or 4 times attempting this quest to realize it is a CHANNELED spell. Basically you want to get enough room between you and him so you can cast the lightning, aiming a little ahead of his path so he wanders into it (he's pretty slow) Channel the full duration of the spell, then run away.

It will bug out if you run off the half moon platform he's on, so stay up there. Just run back and forth, it doesn't matter if he gets a couple hits off on you while you're running. It also will bug out if you don't hit him in a given amount of time so make sure you hit him with the lightning every time it's up.

Save your earth shock until he starts casting cyclone, don't even bother dpsing with it. Just save it to interrupt. Sometimes you can use it and the cooldown will be up before he casts, but this isn't advisable as getting hit with cyclone makes the whole thing take way longer than it should.

As has already been mentioned if you don't get your earth shocks off in time or he gets you low, run away for him to reset. That is way faster than having to reset the quest if you bring him down while not mounted.

this is by far the worst quest in the entire game. It is slow, boring and ridiculously buggy. Its funny to me how so many ppl above are all saying the same thing about he needs to be at 20%. I have tried several times now, and the horn simply doesn't work. It takes way too long to get him to 20%, and then when I finally do, the horn doesn't work. I am sick of 'vehicle' quests all being so buggy.

One solution.

Got the "Can't use that yet" bug, waited for respawn, fought him down using stormhammer.

Then died, and fought him down the rest of the way in normal form until he turned green "weakened."

Blew horn, got credit.

I grouped with someone who was having trouble with this quest while I waited my turn. I healed his Stormhoof while he fought North Wind and we both got credit in the end.

Sometimes it pays to help random strangers :D

Took me about 5 tries, I guess the key is just running back and forth on the ruins, like people suggested.. just run back and forth between the pillars. Place the AOE in the area between him and you since he moves slowly. If you don't have an enemy casting bar addon, click the shock button every 10 seconds or so, didn't really keep track of timing. Also make sure the mob gets down to below 20%, Stormhoof will die and yell, and you get kicked off of him. Then loot the horn, blow it, and win.

Tried it about 4 times.. the strat above works, AE, run, he casts cyclone, earth shock... rinse and repeat. I didn't use Rhino Strike since it didn;t seem to work on my attempts

It took me a few tries to complete this quest. Running between the two ends of the "platform" is the best approach. Use the AoE storm attack at max range so that the North Wind walks slowly through it. It will do about 8k total damage each time.

Don't bother with Stormhoof's melee attack, since it doesn't really appear to do anything. The ranged magic attack helps, but doesn't do much damage.

Kite with ae spell. Interupt cyclone with shock.
20% you will dismount automatically. Horn will drop on the ground.
The horn gets picked up when you click on it. Go to your inventory and use the horn there to complete the quest.
You do not have to remount to use horn.

best is to do this with a friend, you kill the mob together and than one of you grabs the horn. because when you try it solo u will die most of the time before the mob gets to its weakened phase.

BUT ALAS... It finally worked on the 6th try. If you have your key bindings set differently for your 1, 2, and 3 buttons (Stormhoof's attacks) I guess it bugs. This may include any macros you have set up in those spots. (I had my number 1 spot to be triggered by pressing tilda, I don't even remember why.) Set it back to 1 and it worked fine... The vehicle's attacks probably aren't designed to work smoothly with macros.

SCREW. THIS. QUEST.

Tried it 7 times, couldn't get it to work. The mob would randomly drop combat even though I was still attacking him, and when I finally did get to loot the horn, I couldn't use it, either as myself or Stormhoof.

As a druid, I can't even use any of the rewards so I finally dropped the quest and gave up.

Instead of abandoning the quest entirely, I would click off the little buff that looks like the hammer (the buff text tells you that you've gone back in time when you mouse over it), leave the temple area, wait a few seconds for things to reset, and come back and use the hammer to start the event again. That really helped me when I would encounter bugs, and takes a lot less time than having to abandon the quest and go get it again.

This quest more buggy than the chain to get the UBRS key... and that's really saying something.

This Quest is really bugged and tried it several times as well. I just abandon the quest.

To all, after three tries, let it go, not worth it.

I opened a ticket and spoke to support, they can't do anything about it. My feeling is that they use lot's of standard sentences to 'help' a player. I providing support to customers as well, but find most answers lame. So read the quest description here and don't open a ticket, they will not help you.

These are the kind of problems that beta-testing is supposed to be fixing; not primarily for top guilds to learn all the pve content before the game even goes live. This quest should never have been allowed to be implemented with as many bugs as it has. I know people have offered their suggestions already on how to combat the bugs, but allow me to explain what I did after the quest bugging out for one reason or another about a dozen times.

Kiting is definitely the way to go. I had issues with Storm Call not hitting the North Wind at all. I targeted on him, in front of him, off to the side a little and I was hitting with at 50% efficiency at best. I let the entire spell cast, the animation appeared on my target, and he went right through unscathed. If I only hit him with Storm Call and use the shock only to interrupt, he would constantly reset since too much time had gone by without him taking any damage.

My suggestion: Use the shock every time its up, regardless if he is casting cyclone or not. The shock is a guaranteed hit and will keep him from resetting. If you stay in front of him by about 20 yards (the range of that shock), then if he casts cyclone while the shock is on cooldown, then run away a little farther. Yeah, you will take a little damage from the cyclone (or at least I was), but it will wear off by the time he catches up with you. The trickiest parts are the turns around that half-moon platform (someone has already stated that you can't fall off or he evades.....he's right. Watch your footing). Yes, this method may take longer than some of the others, but after a dozen fails, a quick solution was not what I was looking for. I wanted one that would absolutely work. By the way, that 3rd skill (rhino strike or something) is just for looks apparently. Just pretend it doesn't exist. You take too much damage trying to use it. Stick to kiting.

Here was another issue. One time I had the NW to 30% and fell off the platform and he evaded. I tried it again right after and the next time, I didn't have enough mana to finish him off. Got him to about 75% and ran bone dry. What I did was abandon the quest after each failed attempt to get a complete reset on the quest.

Is this method the most efficient? Probably not. Is the quickest? Most definitely not. But it worked for me and hope it helps you.

I finally managed this on the first character I levelled, thanks in the main to the good advice I read here.

Now, a month on, I find the same quest still shot through with bugs. If Classic and TBC are anything to go by, it will stay like this forever. Given it's one of the last quests of the region, I find that sad. But very typical of Blizzard.

Picked up this quest and flew down to the ruins, used the hammer and the first time, "Stormhoof" died before I got the wind to less than 50% health so I just tanked him down till he became friendly but got no horn. I canceled the buff, waited a few mins. and summoned the mob back. Horned dropped, used it on the mob and got my tanking toy. G/L

He is an easy kill, don't see the point in kitting at all, stand there and phuck him up. Also make sure you right click to melee him too, it won't do it automaticly.

Get him down to 20% then the horn should spawn, if it doesn't you can wait like 3 mins till he resets to try again.

I was kicked back to normal form when he hit 20%, so you can do it as normal, i think its the point.

Ok, I finally figured out what was going on with this. It's not bugged....just not easy to figure out.

The first few times I did the quest, I weakened the MOB and he turned green (friendly). His health was around 15.7k when he turned friendly. He dropped the horn. I picked it up but could not blow it. Kept telling me "You can't to that yet". Seemed bugged because the mob was now friendly and I couldn't "finish him off" or "weaken him" any more since he was friendly.

On my last run, I fought him down to about 16k health and then used the storm attack (the one with the most DPS) last. That got him down to about 12-13k health before he turned green (friendly). This time I COULD blow the horn when it dropped.

So, my advice is to fight him to about 16k health, then use the storm attack to put as much damage on him as possible before he turns friendly. There is definately a fine line between him turning friendly and being "weakened" enough that you can blow the horn when he turns.

Good luck - Hopefully this will help you avoid the time sink it became for me!

OMG what a pain. Worst quest yet.
Tried this like 10 times through all different scenarios.
Basically got him to 20% as Stormhoof... got kicked from his body and looted the horn. But since I could not use it I had to wait for a respawn. Then went back as Stormhoof and kited him all over the place... only stopping to cast the lightning when he was about to cast his cyclone (the knockback was what kills you) so I could stay out of melee. Then I was casting lightning on him when he dropped below 20% and I was at around 80%. He told me to blow the horn and I used the one in my inventory from a prior drop. Honestly the 11th time seemed no different than all the other times that the horn did not work except that I had much more health as Stormhoof when he "died". Man god luck with this! I would have dropped it but I'm stubborn about completing a quest.

Joy... another hideous vehicle quest with yet another random mechanic. I am so sick of these things. It's the end of the chain, and for me, the rewards aren't worth the grief... abandoned.

If anyone from Blizzard reads these things: please, no more vehicle quests, ok?

I don't know what the problem everybody was having - there's absolutely NO need to kite. Use the number 2 attack to interrupt cyclone every time, use number 3 between channeled number 1 attacks. He'll die and you'll never go below half. I tried kiting at first and just watched as he reset over and over. Going toe-to-toe is much more effective, just interrupt cyclone.

Confirmed strat. However, I didn't get the quest done the first or second try so I looked it up here. Nothing much to it. Just make sure to kite him around shocking him and storm calling when possible. At 20% it drops under North Wind and you just open it and use the item and it's all done.

The best way to avoid causing a conflict with this quest's scripts is to not interfere with the quest if another player is doing it.

Do not click the horn if it is spawned for another player

Do not attack another player's fire elemental

I tried the advice above and got nowhere. Quest was bugged.

Then somebody in the game showed me the magic trick: STAY ON THE BLACK.

There is a black area to stand on where he spawns. It's like the inner part of the circular platform. Keep him on the black area at all times, and especially, make sure he dies there. When I followed this rule, the quest worked for me in 1 try. Another guy who had been in the same boat as me (bugged, bugged, bugged), then tried this rule, and it worked for him on the first try.

This was easier than I expected, though still annoyingly bugged at first.

If you're bugged, right-click the Lorehammer buff, abandon quest, and start over.

What I did was simply stand and fight, using the AoE and melee on CD (to use the melee attack, you have to actually be in melee combat with him, so use autoattack throughout). Whenever he cast Cyclone, I hit Earth Shock. He hit 20%, Stormhoof died, yelled about using the horn, and dropped same.

I initially tried the kiting methods outlined above, and ran into problems much more frequently. Don't kite, just stand and fight in melee range with autoattack on, and use the Lightning AoE attack and the melee attack on CD. Earth Shock him on Cyclone casts, and it should go just fine.

Anyone having problems getting the Rhino Strike to work? I've tried this quest 4 or 5 different times with all my add ons disabled and nothing happens when I click Rhino Strike. I don't get an error like no mana nothing. Any thoughts?

I had problems with the quest as well, and here's what I did. Look at wudever's youtube video. When you kite him back and forth, the final blow before he goes friendly is lower than if you were to just melee and earthshock him. So he will go friendly at 20% but you need him at 19% to use the horn. As long as the final blow comes as the aoe spell, you'll be able to finish the quest.

I tried this 10 times and still couldnt finish it he either evade bugged and re set or ended up killing stormhoof.. stormhoof is freaking weak. Huge waste of my time. you would think after all this time of this quest being bugged they would fix it..

Quest was bugged for me too, but didn't have to abandon it.
Just waited untill the North Wind turned red again and re-used the hammer.... Had to do this 3 times before the horn dropped.

Also, the melee attack didn't work for me. Either the three times. But with the 'normal' physical attack and AoE when possible I just managed to get him down to 19% Stormhoof died at the moment the horn dropped, but I was able to use it anyway.

Once the quest works it's a walk in the park, but all the bugs make it anoying.

This is the worst quest I have done yet in the new WotLK! Simply too buggy. If you walk to certian areas he resets half the time I lose target after a cast. I give this quest a 1/10 Hate hate hate!

God this quest took for ever if you don't have to do it don't!

Completely bugged. Had to abandon the quest chain at this point. North wind acts stunned, used horn, nothing. North wind finally despawns. Quest remains incomplete.

To summarise the problems I encountered with this quest and how I worked around them eventually (thanks to the helpful comments here):

#1 The melee ability, "rhino strike", doesn't work.

There's no need to use it, you can kill the North Wind by kiting him around and using lightning storm and earth shock whenever they are off cooldown.

#2 The North Wind resets all the time.

He can't follow you off the dais so you have to stay on there, but even on the platform his movement is very limited and he will sometimes reset if you do as much as get to within a few feet of the edge. Might take a little experimenting to find out just how far you can go without making him evade.

#3 The horn doesn't spawn.

This happens if Stormhoof actually dies from fighting the North Wind instead of his death getting triggered automatically by the event once the North Wind gets to 20% health. This happened to me when I tried to melee him to death with the non-working rhino strike (see #1) on my first attempt. Solution: Use your ranged abilities and don't let Stormhoof die. :)

#4 The horn spawns but using it doesn't do anything.

This seems to happen if the North Wind turns friendly "too early", so make sure to hit him with a lightning storm when he gets close to 20% so you'll do enough damage to push him over the edge.

Story-wise I thought this was a very nice quest chain and I liked how it followed up on this quest from Borean Tundra, but it's definitely the buggiest quest I've encountered in Northrend to date...

quest appears to be bugged on some realms.
gm sad, that yes, they know about that problem and they try to fix it.
unfortunately, fix will be only when patch 3.1. comes out.
so for those who cant complete it, cause npc dont gives you complete status, keep quest in log and wait till patch comes out :(

Be warned that even if you manage to 'work out' how to get past Blizzard 'bugs' in the quest, your UI addons may stop you from correctly using the dropped horn. As such, I took about 5 goes to get the horn to drop... then it wouldn't properly 'Use'. Only after disabling all addons could I use it (too lazy to identify which of the 50+ addons I have was the direct cause)... just thought I should warn folks to disable UI addons first (there appears to be around 6 quests in WotLK that have similar 'issues')

For those folks having trouble getting the horn to work after Stormhoof "dies":

ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE TARGETED THE NORTH WIND WHEN YOU USE THE HORN.

This certainly seemed to solve the problem I had when I did the quest.

Absolutely the most frustrating quest ever. Seems bugged to me. I almost died 4 times. the 5th time I did. I couldn't get the Rhino attack or whatever to work. I could only get the other 2 to work and couldn't get him down to less than about 35%. My opinion, the rewards looks good, but I can't get the quest done.

First time, as i got off to use the horn, the horn did nothing . After he despawned and respawned, did it again, used the horn, and this time got no credit.

A lot of these comments are saying the quest is bugged .. it isn't bugged at all, there are certain requirements to make it work properly. The basic idea is that you MUST beat the north wind down to ~20% before the horn will spawn AS Stormhoof. If you use the 3 abilities properly, it is very simple to do.

Ability #1
Use this whenever the cooldown is up. It is a channeled spell, which means you cannot move while it is casting. Do not cast either Ability #2 or #3 while this is being channeled.

Ability #2
SAVE IT. This can be used to interrupt the North Wind's stun ability. The North Wind does it seldom enough throughout the 20 second fight that you should not have a problem interrupting it every time it is cast
(Hint: Turn on casting bars in the interface menu)

Ability #3
A lot of comments are saying this doesn't work. It does work. You have to be in melee range, and you have to right-click on The North Wind in order for it to work properly. Spam this ability while waiting for #1 to cooldown.

You don't have to run all over the place setting up little traps with Ability #1 as many others have suggested, the melee attack works fine, and #2 is used to interrupt the stun that would otherwise stop you from being able to use Ability #1. Once you beat The North Wind down to ~20% you will "dismount" Stormhoof, and there will be a giant horn on the ground. Right-click it and you're all set.

This is a very possible quest. I dunno about it being so buggy, I didn't experience any, maybe luck.

First, don't kite him. It is possible but for me he twice just stopped attacking, went back to his spawn, and went to full hp and out of combat.

Here's how I did it. Start by standing on the main part of the temple floor, as far from him as you can. Use your channel ability to get some hits in before he reaches you.

From here it's a pretty basic fight. Use auto attack, use the third (melee) strike when you can (it sometimes doesn't react to my clicks, but it works), use the channel when you can (especially if you've just been knocked back) and, on top of all, USE THE SECOND ABILITY WHEN HE USES CYCLONE. Without cyclone, this guy is easy to knock down - your health and his health will decline at an about equal percentage rate, but you only have to get him down to below 20% before you die.

The horn should spawn when Stormhoof "dies"

I couldn't find the North WInd after using the Hammer, but then I went searching for him specifically in the ruins instead of on the plains or in that little cave, and there he was.

I tried a little somthing differnt for this one than the other posters. Being an Elemntal Shaman I dropped my Fire Elemental Totem before I clicked on The Lorehammer and became Stormhoof. Was VERY easy to knock down The North Winds health to 20% (Stormhoof was at about 75% at that time). Then, got transformed back to my main toon and the horn dropped.

I had no issues with kiting the Wind. I kited him around several pillars while waiting for my AoE CD to refresh, and just shocked him when he started casting Cyclone. I had to read the comments here before successfully completing the mission however, as the quest dialogue is ambiguous at best.

It's bugged. Killed the mob 4 times, horn has spawned twice, can't use it either time. In all instances I'm in the tanuka form during the kill, the game puts me back to normal after the kill (or actually the mob concedes). It's just not working. Lame lame lame.

EDIT: Went back in the day after and the horn dropped and worked for me on the first kill. Maybe it's worth trying a quick log-log if the quest is bugging out on you...

This quest was kinda easy, all you need to do is fly to the tempel of life
and use the hammer in your bag, then kill the mob that spawns use the attack nr 1 and 3 and interupt his spell whit erth shock "2" and when he dies (20% ish) and u will lose the form and a horn spawns just press and done;)

The quest is not bugged at all .. the only bug is the 3d button that it didnt working(but you dont need it ).You actually have to attack the North Winds as Stormhoof and defeated (AS STORMHOOF and not as you)When you get him down far enough, like 15% he turns green..Then Stormhoof dies and the horn pops up.. Just use the horn..When you use it you have complete Changing the Wind's Course ..Gz =)

The rewards for this quest do not match the lore. Stormhoof is a Shaman, and yet Shamans can not use any of the reward items. Oops!

One of the worst quests in this game. The buttons stick, the Stormhoof is too slow to actually avoid the damn North Wind. I abandoned it.

Took 3 tries, first time the horn dropped but when I clicked it, it did nothing. Couldn't use it and eventually it disappeared.
Second try no horn dropped at all.
third time it dropped and worked

Just have to keep trying and hope it works. Definitely one of the buggiest quests in the game

The attack functions also didn't work properly, which makes things annoying. The third attack function is a melee attack and the icon often turned grey suggesting that it wasn't functional, but it was....
It stopped working a couple of times though, but if you keep clicking like crazy it works haha
Luckily it's an easy kill because you might have to do it several times.

I found this quest really difficult, it took me about 6 tries to do it and the first 4 tries i got nowhere near to doing it. I thought it was bugged coz i cudnt use the melee attack but i found that if first u right click on the North Wind then i cud use the attack, after i found that out i did it =]

Ok...I finally figured out how this quest works. You need to get the North Wind down to 14-16k health before you die. Any more than that and he just goes green, any less and you have to finish him off with your own character. I saw somebody else there and helped him just enough to ensure that he was at the right amount and didn't pull any aggro.

To make this quest work, you use Stormhammer to DPS the wind down 'til it turns green at that point you should exit the vehicle automatically and the horn should appear. Click on it and it should finish off the wind. Don't let your vehicle die and don't exit it until the wind turns friendly and you should be fine.

This is what happened to me. I got the quest i kill the mob, but i can't pick up the horn..... abondon do it again this time i died. 3 time took the quest and he won't respawn... so what the hell blizz

Hello all.

1. First thing, go to the ruined temple around the coords 64.47 (West of Camp Tunka'lo). Use The Lorehammer - provided by quest giver.

2. Now you are inside/ taking over Stormhoof - He has 3 abilities (Only need the first two, storm and daze). The Northwind is slow, so use your Storm at a distance, and run away. If he starts to try use a spell, stun him using attack 2.

3. Continue this proccess of Storm, Daze and keep running - He is a slow wind :).

4. I think the horn only drops if your Stormhood doesn't die. My process kept me at around 30% left, and the horn is dropped, you cant miss it. Click it, and it destroys him.

5. Return to the quest giver, take ure pick !

This quest is bugged, so don't even bother trying to use #3 ability. It doesn't work.

Earth shock. This is the key. Hit him once then wait for him to try and cast whirlwind. You'll know because he stops to do this. Hit Earth shock again (which will inturrupt his ability to cast it). He can only cast about every 15 seconds, so hit him with Earth Shock (#2) once the cooldown allows you. Rince and repeat.

i agree this quest sucks! even when i did it and got to horn to drop it still didnt work like it says it should. even as a dk i can't use the rewards but would like the gold and xp! but wont happen since i gave up definately NOT worth the effort

it's a really difficult quest, when startintg fight use aoe,then second spell and third, after that use only first and third spell to get him under 15%HP and second use to disrupt casting cyclone. when he is bellow 13k HP,then he stop attacking and stormhoof died and horn is summoned. easy like slap :)

I had to accept and drop the quest 4 times before he dropped the horn and I could use it first time.

All four times I used Number 1 and 3 and Number 2 only to interrupt his Cyclone. Quite a straight forwars fight except for the horn that may or may not drop. Even if it does drop you may not be able to use it.

I can't believe this quest is still bugged as I encountered this problem in November 08 on my main char...you gotta love Blizz :/

this one is easy as you know how to do. here as a easy strategy.
1. go to the temple of life.
2. use the lorehammer.
3. attack the North Wind AoE with attack 1
4. Melee the North Wind all the time but when you can do the AoE use it.
5. when the North Wind is casting use attack 2 it interupts its cast.
6. after a while you cant attack the North Wind anymore. ur pet/vehicle wil die and you can loot the Horn you need
7. turn in Quest at Xarantaur at Camp Tunka'lo

This quest is pretty wild, considering there is good advice here, and bad....if you start with option one then watch for cyclone, 2 stops cyclone, use 1 when you can the rest of time right click to melee, forget about using three. Just keep it up the horn will appear and the wind will turn green, and will be stunned.

The first time I used the hammer, my ui disappeared completely and the usual vehicle action bar failed to come up. Terrifying. I logged out and logged back in and the North Wind or whatever was still there, so I used the hammer again. I got down to low health on my part and then the horn dropped (luckily.) It seemed like a lot of the time the cyclone happened without him casting. hm.

This quest is unbelievably bugged. Took me six tries. Some notes:

If your "vehicle" dies, you fail the quest. It doesn't say you fail, but you do. Even if you manage to kill him, he will NOT drop the required item, and you have to abandon.
Do NOT restart it too quick. I kept shapeshifting to the new 150% flight form and rushing back to the quest giver. Several times the "defeated" wind was still there after I restarted too quickly.
Save your second spell (the interrupt) cooldown. You have just barely enough DPS to outlast him, and if gets even ONE Cyclone, you will die. Interrupt it EVERY TIME you can.

it sure does!
The third button does work BUT you have to attack him (have NPC targeted and right click him after your first attack and mashing the third button it will rhino strike). It took me 5 times, both turning off and on CTMOD bars and a lot of screaming at Blizz. Useless rewards... (There was nothing wrong with CTMOD's bars or the MOD in general it was the fact that there are no set rules known in game and the third button has a goofy way of working.)

found out an interesting bug about this q for good xp boost.
use the quest item that travels u back in time and make u an elite with 36k hp then
bring boss down to friendly, and when horn appers dont blow it just go out seek some mobs and enjoy killing them..
Other player will se u as a elite with 36k hp i myself killed like 30mobs in some mins with this bug and got 30k xp out of it.

I've done this four times in the last two days, and it's simple to do without running around, if you know how to do it. First, go to Interface Options>Combat and turn 'On' Cast Bars On Targets. This way you will be able to see when the mob is casting Cyclone, without having to guess. Then, when you are controlling Stormhoof:

- Right click on the North Wind so that Stormhoof will always be meleeing when not casting; Stormhoof can hit pretty hard.
- Start the combat with Storm Call.
- Get close enough to melee with the North Wind
- Do NOT use Earth Shock until you see that North Wind is casting Cyclone, then use Earth Shock to interrupt Cyclone
- Continue to spam Storm Call whenever the cool down ends;
- Keep an eye on the North Wind cast bar, and save Earth Shock to interrupt the Cyclone spell.

You will take the North Wind down to 20% while controlling Stormhoof which is the only way to get the Horn to appear. The Horn appears in the middle of the ruins in which you are fighting. Stormhoof dies, then run to the Horn and complete the quest.

Oh, I forgot, ignore the greying of the control buttons when controlling Stormhoof. This is buggy. When the cooldown is over, then you can use the spells.

Same advice as thomas123 above.

Please note that you don't have to get this guy down to 0% health, you 'kill' him before 0% so if it looks like you're going to loose, well stormhoof does die but it makes you jump off him and tells you to go blow the horn so just keep trying.

Button 1 him, then right click him to malee him. When you see him starting to cast cyclone then hit button 2! Then malee him again until your storm is ready to use then use it. and continue. Just remember to button 2 him when he starts using cyclone.

I actually got this to work on my first try, here is how I beat him.

Explanation of the buttons:

1 - Channeled DoT
2 - Spell Interupt
3 - Melee Attack

Strategy:

- Use 1 close to you and him so it continually hurts him.
- Then spam 3 to melee attack until 1 becomes available again
- If you see him channeling a spell (watch for green sparks) use 2 to interupt it.
- As soon as you can use your next AoE do so then repeat.

You will get him down to 20% easy, then stop the fight and take the horn in the center of the crest.

All right, the big trick is:

You actualy have to "win" the fight, and get the guy below 20% as Stormhoof, than you will automatically "dismount" him, and the horn will spawn.
If you do it right Stormhoof will yell : "The Horn! Use the horn ... " ect

To win the fight:
- start with 1st skill, channel! it every time you can, it is your best damage
-right click to melee
-spam 3rd skill
- use 2nd skill when he cast cyclone to interrupt him

Got it on my second try. I just out-dpsed the North Wind and then automatically got dismounted. The horn then spawned next to me.

I just did it first try on my Shaman. Maybe it worked for me since Stormhoof is a Shaman himself, but on my other toons it took several tries for it to work properly. I think the key here is to use the skills in almost a PvP sort of way. Use the melee attack and channeled Thunderstorm every time they are off CD but SAVE the Earth Shock for when he casts Cyclone on you. I managed to get The North Wind to turn green while Stormhoof was still alive.

Ok yall. Here's how I did it, with the help of some earlier posts.

First: Hit North Wind with the "1" button (Storm Call). It's a channeled spell so stay at max distance and wait for it to channel!

Second: (Staying within the ruins otherwise he'll reset with full health!) Strafe around North Wind in semi-big circles using your "Q" or "E" keys on your keyboard, and hit North Wind with your "2" button (Earth Shock). And remember, you must be facing him to use Earth Shock, hence the "strafe".

Third: "IMPORTANTE!" after hitting him with "2" (Earth Shock), wait for Earth Shock to cooldown and hit him again immediately and only one more time! I tried hitting him 3 times, but Earth Shock would not cooldown fast enough to hit North Wind before he got off another Cyclone!

Fourth: After hitting North Wind with the second Earth Shock, keep circling until you see his Cyclone start to charge. As soon as the Cyclone bar appears, hit him with the Earth Shock! And then when it cools down, hit him again with Earth Shock!

Continue this cycle and it's an easy quest. A little time consuming, but easy!

Remember: "Earth Shock" "Earth Shock" wait for North Wind's "Cyclone" bar to start charging...then "Earth Shock" "Earth Shock" again...and continue until he drops your loot. He drops it when he's down to about 1/4 life.

This is it...Guarranteed or you money back sucka!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to Grizela for mentioning that you have to R-CLICK the North Wind to get the melee attack to work. I could not figure out why he did nothing when I was attempting to do the melee attack. Once I did that it worked great and I managed to take him down the first time.

Ok, I don't feel like reading all 120 comments to see if someone already posted this BUT...

Cast Storm Call, then melee til The North Wind starts casting. To do this, just right click him, as hitting 3 or clicking the button itself doesn't work, go figure.

When he starts to cast, you need to cast Earth Shock to stop him.

The cooldown on Storm Call should be done by now, so repeat until you can't anymore.

I got him down to 12,706 when he went green and this appeared in my chat box..

The North Wind yells: Fool! You will never defeat me!
Stormhoof yells: The horn! Use the horn on it while it's weak!
Go to the center of the temple and use the Horn of Elemental Fury!
The North Wind yells: I will never allow you to use the Horn of Elemental Fury against us! Die, weakling!

All you have to do is run to the horn and right click it. It should just work, nothing goes to your inventory or anything. The quest should be completed and you just have to fly back to Xarantaur, the Witness. :)

Has this quest been changed at all? There was no "picking up" the horn for me. It was all easy and straight forward.

I went down there, used Lorehammer to turn into Stormhoof. I was dismounted at 20% HP (I had no problems with the controls, all skills worked fine), the The North Wind went passive and there was a large horn -- Horn of Elemental Fury -- on the ground. I walked over, clicked on it, and it was done.

I don't know what I did. I had him at about 75% while I was about to die and try again. Suddenly I went back to my toon and the horn appeared and it yelled at me to blow it. I blew it and completed the quest. Still don't know what happened.

This quest is completely and utterly retarded (or maybe just broken) and impossible. All attacks require mana, and it does not regenerate. There is no way to win as Stormhoof as the North Wind resets if you run too far away.

So even if you kite the North Wind, your Mana will never regenerate to the point of having enough to kill him.

Waste of time.

for me the horn dropped in the center of the temple no matter where stormhoof died, and it wasn't an item you pick up, just an item you use. stormhoof's body disappears quickly but the horn should remain in the center of the temple long enough for you to run over and use it

The way mana was generated was completely changed going from WoTLK to Cataclysm, and it seems this quest was affected by it

(The change also made it so every mana user, including DPS, cannot regenerate mana needed to cast spells on General Vezax in Ulduar)

In WoD it was too easy to accidentally kill him before he can dismount you and spawn the horn.

Don't use the storm spell unless it's at the very start
Don't go all out on him
Use the melee sparingly to get him below 20% and trigger the quest script

This quest was a little bugged for me. After dying as Stormhoof and getting him down to 20%, the dialogue triggered as it should, but no horn appeared. Redid it twice without any horn spawning. Then as I was tabbed out, scouring the internet for clues, someone else did the quest and made the horn spawn. I could use the horn then as well and thus managed to finish the quest. I don't know if a /reload or relog would have solved the problem as well, but worth trying if anyone else runs into this problem.

If you are at max level (at this time 110), you can't just kill him with your abilities. I tried this over and over to no avail.

What I did was use the spear first to get him about halfway, then auto attack until he gets low. Mine was just under 5k. Then he turns green and you can blow the horn.

I spent way too long here wondering what I was doing wrong.

Take the hammer again, head to the Temple of Life in the plains to the northwest. Use the hammer to assume the role of Stormhoof. Face the North Wind as Stormhoof, but realize that for the timeline to be restored, Stormhoof must die as the North Wind weakens.

Then, you must find and use the Horn of Elemental Fury to destroy the North Wind.
