As of today in beta, however, there are places you cannot fly. I was flying all over the Basin, then flew down to Borean tundra, and boom, my mount despawned in mid air and i fell to the ground. Luckily i wasn't flying high or i'd have died, splat. When I tried to remount my griff, i got the message, "You cannot use that here."

Hopefully this is a temporary bug. In the meantime, fly low. :)

Edit: with more experimentation, seems that as soon as you hit "the Lost Passage" area between Sholazar Basin and Magmoth, you get dismounted. If you run further into borean tundra, you can eventually remount your griff. Also, any time i'm griff mounted and on my screen it says i'm entering a new sub zone, like Steeljaw Caravan, or Lake Kum'uya, i'm dismounted.

Sounds like a Bug they'll patch before release. Or they just want to screw with us. Until then... mages and priests? Carry a lot of light feathers. Everyone else? Noggenfoggers. Hope you get the right effect XD

This quest seems to be bugged in build 8924. There is no way (that I can see) to land the plane when you get back to Vic's landing, despite being in the circle and spamming the land button, so eventually the plane just blows up and you're left with an incomplete quest.

As for those confused about why you are dismounted, the dismount bug kicks you off your mount when you're flying above anything where you wouldn't be able to mount. Buildings, caves, etc will all dismount you when you fly over them, so just be mindful of that. If you're high enough it wont happen.

Hmh, THIS is the quest? I tought its from "Looking for Survivors (http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?quest=13053)".. Ah well, cool enough, seems like theres no cost for the flying in northrend, just like I said on the other quests comments too.

Due to Blizzard going "oh we think we're smart" they've removed this, since they don't want peoples' many alts to all have to do this. They've changed it to 1000g in Dalaran, to the disappointment of many players with less money and only one or two high levels.

For anyone having trouble with this, you gain control of it when you stop (while under attack), so simply fly straight back and land.

ok, this can be a bit confusing at first, you jump on the air plane and you are initially on auto pilot. once you reach the avalanche area, you get attacked by bats, dont panic, after a few second you gain control of the plane, your engine will explode.. don't worry just fly back to the landing platform to complete the quest

For those who haven't had much time with the vehicles, make sure you use your toolbar button that says 'Land Flying Machine" usually in the first button slot. You have to be inside the ring of crystals near the questgiver in Lakeside Landing.

This should complete the quest.

This ... was not as easy as I expected. I had a ton of bats on me, and it took me a bit to figure out a good method for myself. Before you get control of the plane, Tab-2, Tab-2. Just keep tabbing and hitting the rockets, after having at least 10 on me I got them down to 2 and had suffered a small amount of damage to where I could get back even with the engine exploding DoT.

Ok hopefully this helps as i had trouble doing this quest the first time and the above info might not be 100% on the mark although it is close.

You BUY the cold weather flying now you dont get rewarded it.
Just talk to the guy who gives you this quest he's a trainer.
Ok, for the actual quest just do the first part its on auto pilot and theres nothing you can do.

you'll get to the avalanche, as soon as you do you'll be swamped by bats. i didnt fire a single shot theres no point, just keep trying to fly away and once you get control of the plane you will quickly escape from those bats and if you fly straight back to the landing spot like i did you'll have no problems getting back in one piece, albeit well and truly on fire.

Just land inside the circle of crystals using the button that says "land plane" and you're done.

Dont press LEAVE when you are at the landing place ... you have to click the LAND button in the toolbar , or by pressing 1.

It's quite simple. The plane auto-pilotes to scourge location. The moment you see that your plane is on fire, just high-tail it back to the quest giver and exit the plane using the 1 button. Quest complete.

Very easy quest, just let the auto-pilot fly to the avalanche, and when the engine starts burning just fly back to where you've started

Be sure to use the land flying machine ability when you are at the turn in because if you just get off it wont complete the quest.

Lol, at first this quest had me pulling my hair out; I thought you where supposed to kill the flying things while he got the engine started. I almost droped the quest for good, but once I found out what your supposed to do it was an a sceen right out of an action flick! Bringing the flaming fighter plane in for a crash landing! Fun quest

If you hold the space bar while you are in control of the plane you will be able to do loops. Thought it was pretty fun, but don't play around with it for too long.

I found this quest pretty damn annoying
Spamming tab + 2 IS a good way to do it, but after afew seconds you get to close to the mountainwall and there will be ground mods who will not be a threat to the aircraft, but they will be in the "targetlist" and thus decreasing the chance of you targeting something that might be a danger

but since you just have to get away, it souldnt be a big problem

When I noticed I could control the plane I headed straight for the two unexplored areas in Sholazar and got the explorer title.

In other words, if you're poor like me, use the plane to explore the areas above ground level. You'll have to start the quest two times, but it's worth it. Plus the parachute is cool.

Ok...so the one thing that I don't see listed here is how you make the plane go down. After doing this quest lots of time I finally read on another site that to make the plane drop to a lower altitude you have to click and hold both mouse buttons while pulling the mouse towards you or down, pushing it forward or up makes you gain altitude. X don't work people...don't even go there! However holding down the space bar does produce some narley loops...fun!
Oh...and for some reason I thought at the completion of this quest I would get "artisan" riding...nope..ya get cold weather..which I already had. But the quest is fun and worth doing.

I figured this quest is easy enough just follow the quest instructions...nope, whoever wrote the instructions meant for this quest to suck...exiting the vehicle does not give credit, although it should...like other previous posts have stated, press the #1 key...and read WOWHEAD.COM for instructions on how to complete quests...

You are on auto-pilot once you board the vehicle and when you reach a certain point you are attacked by bats but you do not want to attack anything yourself. Once you get the yellow message on your screen immediately take control of the vehicle and head back to the landing area checking your map to make sure you are heading in the right direction.

Using the "x" key to fly downward in order to land does not work in the usual manner since it will cause you to spin. One way this could be done is once you are above the landing area press the "x" key so that you are in a nose-dive position and then use your forward arrow key until you hit the ground within the circle. Then just click or press 1 to dismount to complete the quest.

Contrary to real life, placing the plane in the water when it is engulfed in flames will do nothing to get rid of the fire.

I failed this quest on my first time through, but I can't seem to restart the quest now. Is anyone else having this problem?

Ok, for me, none of the tips worked. My actions bars disappeared. I happen to use Bartender4. Instead I had the vehicle control arrow (leave vehicle) in the center of my screen. That didn't work either, just like the comments above. Here's what I did:

1-used the TomTom coord box to mark my spot next to the quest giver and get a 'taxi arrow to show me the quick way back.

2-gentle taps on the space bar and x key to raise and lower the nose of the plane. It doesn't
handle like a mount.

3-landed next to the quest giver and scooted the plane as close as I could. I still failed the
quest one time when I wasn't close enough and had to do it over.

4-tried the #1 key and the #2 key. #1 did not work for me. I didn't see any keybindings for either key when I checked so I'm not sure how this worked.

Hope this helps someone.

Since there is no quest helper after patch 4.0, use the in game quest tracker. As soon as you take off click where you have to turn the quest in at top objective and it will show you the way back. As soon as you get control of the plane just head for the yellow arrow and as soon as it disappears nose down. When you see the landing pad dive straight for it and hit 2 to land.

If you are a keyboard player having trouble controlling the plane, or getting it to fly fast enough, you may need to use a mouse. I play on my laptop, and was unable to complete the quest until I hooked up the mouse.

Just a clarification on controlling the aircraft using the mouse. I hold both mouse buttons down and just point the nose where I want to go. Releasing the buttons stops the aircraft in midair if you need to get oriented. Head generally south after the motor explodes, following the river to the landing circle. Press the landing button when inside the circle. I had difficulty controlling the aircraft with the keyboard, but using the mouse makes the quest rather easy.

Whenver i am above th landing pad i press land whether i am close or far and it says requires landing pad, then the plane burns and i am returned to avalanche and i just die.
if anyone know how to avoid this please tell me

Make sure that you are dismounted before accepting this quest. If you are mounted upon starting it, you won't be able to land the plane at the end of the quest, and you will have to let it burn and disband the quest before you can try again.

For all of those saying press 1 to land, it seems that this has changed. I have just done the quest in patch 4.3.3 and it was key 2 for landing. Key 1 was to fire. Can anyone else confirm?

Not sure if it's just my machine or what, but for some reason wowhead or the client or something isn't tracking the three missions that end at Pilot Vic. The mission Force of Nature that he starts and ends elsewhere seems to track just fine.
