Now THIS quest was intelligently designed. Just kill the trolls until the named mobs appear then loot their chests. It doesn't matter who kills them, anyone with the quest can loot their chest; so there's no need to compete with other players. Gawani spawns at the NE end of the pool. Chulo at the SW end and Kutube'sa right in the middle. They're relatively easy to kill non-elites so help out other players and everyone reaps the benefits.

No way this quest is not intelligent. The leaders take wayyyy too long to spawn. Took me 35-45 kills each to get them to spawn.

Just because it takes a long time for them to spawn doesn't mean that this quest isn't intelligently designed. It simply means that you're too lazy to actually do it.

This quest is awful. Not only do the named mobs take FAR too long to spawn, but when you eventually do get one to spawn, there's no guarantee that it's the named mob you need. You can try to kill mobs near the Leaders' totems, but I'm not even sure the quest works that way, and even so... the middle totem is close enough to the other two that you may get him instead of the one you need.

The spawn rate needs to be increased and the boss spawn needs to be more intuitive.

The troll leaders will yell when they spawn, so you don't have to keep running back and forth every few kills to see if one of them has spawned.

Note: The person who tags the leader must be on the quest AND not have gotten that specific treasure for the chest to spawn when it dies...

The best that I can tell, they spawn in order after X amount of kills on the local trolls. Gawanil, Chulo, and Kutube were the order I observed.

As if this quest wasn't annoying enough, the quest item needed spawns next to the dead boss. Don't forget to loot it, as you will surely be numbed by the ridiculous amount of mobs needing to be killed.

Long spawn "/ If u wonder what the glimmering on the statue is, it doesnt mean u need to pick up something. Just says wich leader u havent killed yet.

Took me 20-25 kills to spawn each of them, Order was Gawanil,Chulo the Mad,Kutube'sa.
I dont think it matters where you kill them, I think they spawn at random.
And look out for the chest when their dead, its their you get the quest items from, which mean you dont have to tag the mobs to get your quest done.

this quest is not ridiculous. Its rather that it has been designed for multiple people doing it at the same time. Since anyone can take the treasure that drops, its obvious that the more people that kill trolls, the faster the bosses spawn.

No idea why people are slagging off this quest, it actually is intelligent, means that everyone gets the loot from rare mobs without competing for them.

Don't worry about getting the loot - simply help others kills any mobs in the area. As soon as enough have been killed the named mob will spawn.

Run to the relevant totem and help kill him. You can then loot the item. You do not need to tag the named mob to get the item, everyone can loot, so chill out and have some fun.

Did this today, didn't take long for each boss to spawn with 2-3 people killing the trolls at all times. However, Gawanil did NOT do a yell when he spawned. I noticed the other 2 kept coming back, so I kept a closer eye on Gawanil's totem and sure enough he spawned without saying a word - so may be worth sticking around this totem for the grind.

I did this quest today and it took me maybe 25 mobs for the 2 first bosses to spawn, then it took .. maybe 50 mobs before I started wondering what was wrong for the last one to spawn (Chulo). I pulled a mob back to his totem and fought it there. He spawned at the first mob, maybe it was just a coinsidence but it's worth to try, this quest is a mess.

Intelligently designed? Perhaps the fact that individuals can loot any chest regardless of who got it is intelligent, but on your assertion of this being an intelligently designed quest, I couldn't disagree more.

If you consider solo quests that have no obviously quantifiable goals as intelligent then I suppose we're going to have to disagree. Having to sit around killing random mobs in the hope that the actual quest goal shows up is straight up lame and unclear. The so called "intelligent design" of this quest is eclipsed by the multitude of well designed quests in Wrath of the Lich King.

Loved that quest, Alliance and Horde actually don't kill themselves for once. I enjoyed working with humans and gnomes to kill bad trolls, and that's all what matters.

While yes, this quest is clever and new for large crowds of people.
For misanthropes, like me, who wait till 3am at night to grind so I don't have to be bothered with people. This is a very long a boring quest.

By the way, this quest has a nasty little bug that kills the aforementioned "lack of competition". I attmpeted to do this in the late afternoon today because I had some free time. We killed Cho' the Mad (or whatever) and the box dropped. Well, after the first person opened it. I was unable to open it.

When i killed chulo it didnt drop the box, which is wicked annyoing had to wait 30 more minutes until it freaking popped up, this quest is ridiclous

Blizzard has fixed it already i did the quest with all neither of the 3 boxes dropping more than once or neither of the 3 box droppers spawning more than once.So its all ok now just kill creeps near the totems and the NPCs will spawn there thats all you need to do.

You can tell which one is going to spawn by how large the sparkle effect is around the totem. The larger the effect the closer to summoning.

They all shouted when they spawned for us (a group of 2). Took about 10 min to kill all three with no other people around to help.

As a hunter, this quest might be one of the most annoying ones you will ever find. First off, the medicine men seem to be more attracted to you than your pet, they will heal with pots (no silence shot this time), and they can dodge/parry your wing clip often. For hunters, you're better off waiting for someone to do it than actually doing it.

If you're on a PVP server be prepared to kill an enormous amount of trolls, the one guy I need has passed by three times with me being dead from a recent gank each time.

Oh finally after like twenty mobs Kutube'sa spawns, sweet im killing him,oh no ally don't want me getting a quest item because they have nothing better to do, nw lol ill just bubble,quickly kill and loot, LOL nope cant open chest while invincible. Sweet im dead and the chest is gone. Now to kill way more mobs,sweet 50+ mobs later he spawns again,sweet i KILL him,lol dc,log back on chest gone.NW drag more mobs to his totem, OH SWEET HE-nope lol Gawanil spawned even though i dragged the mobs RIGHT ON THE F***ING TOTEM.

/sigh They should just make the same people develop the quests in Wrath, so at least its consistent. SO i don't get all these awesome as epic zone ranging quest lines and awesome siege vehicle quests mixed in with the freaking worse designed and bugged quests in existence.So i can easily make my decision to play or quit. Seriously who's bright idea was it to make killing random mobs spawn a RANDOM boss, with a chest that dissapears quicker then a packet of chips in a room with five fat people.

This is one of the most frustrating quests ever. Not only does it take a long time for the boss to spawn, you have to remember to loot their chest. If you're like me and were excited just to get the last boss to spawn after 25 minutes of killing trolls and forgot to loot the chest, you'll probably end up kicking yourself when you go back only to watch the chest despawn in front of you. It took at least another 15 minutes to get that particular boss to spawn again. If I hadn't been doing that quest at 10 AM, I probably would've taken a visit to my liquor cabinet.

lots of incorrect comments about this quest below. Simply help others kill the trash mobs in the area and the named mobs will spawn - like the prince quest in blades edge mountains. When the named mob is killed you get a chest with the quest item next to the totem.

You don't need to tag the named to get the quest done....all in all much easier quest than is being described by some below, and no competition to tag a named mob.

I ran to the area to pick the items up, not really knowing what to do - I soon saw the Box from one of the bosses closest to Zim'Torga and figured out what I had to do, I grinded a short time for the next two bosses and received Gawanil's items fairly soon then I started grinding again for last item and just as I gave up and went onto WoWhead for tips I tabbed back into WoW to find myself on 5% and Kutube'sa laying into me, none the less to say I got him down before he got me, Fairly lucky as I had the first box done for me and the Second Bosses spawn once.

Didn't have any problems with this Quest.

Be careful about doing this quest with many players from the opposite faction around. This may not be true about PvE servers, on on PvP servers if an opponent kills the boss, you cannot loot the chest. This makes it EXTREMELY annoying if you've been farming trolls for a half hour, inally see the boss spawn, and an ally swoops in and steals your kill.

Usually after this much commentary I start to get worried. But not so bad. I was the only around, did laps around the area, bosses spawned without duplication. Not fast though, I would recommend hunkering down with a couple of brews and some smooth jazz. Watch out for the witch doctors though, they can be real tarts.

Each of the 3 mini bosses have a totem

When they show up next to their totems, you make sure to be gettin' the treasure of Kutube'sa, Gawanil, and Chulo the Mad, mon.

Drag mobs to the totem. make sure you on the 'face side' fo the totem. as in when you do the middle one, be in the frozen pool.

Some of the Drakkari trolls have gathered at the Pools of Jin'Alai to the southwest. We be needin' to draw out their leaders, and Ahunae knows just how you be doin' it, too!

I killed No more than 6 or 7 troll at the totem of the boss I wanted dead.
Whole quest, 5 maybe 10 mins.

Read those quests ppl :)

Stupid Problem: The chests that drop can be looted by anyone, but only one person at a time, like all chests in the game. Which means that if someone opens it, then sits there staring at their UI for a minute without actually picking up the quest item, the chest despawns before anyone else can loot it.

Bonus Points to the sociopath who runs around the quest area exploiting this for an hour just to @#$% people off.

This quest will take u atleast 15 min , u need to kill alot of npc before the boss shows up , took me 25 min (priest) ! and NO its not ( intelligently ) designed its a pain in the buttox

Nice quest for melee classes since theres a lot of medicine mans which have very low armor and die fast. Im doing this quest at the moment and i have killed around 100-150 mobs already. 1700 xp per mob with rested = 170 000 - 250 000 xp ;) Also nice cloth drops for me.

Took my lvl 75 disc priest 38 min (and a whole lotta killin') to spawn 2 bosses, Kutube'sa was alrdy there when I arrived :)

Downside to this quest: Takes ages to complete
Upside to this quest: Lots and lots of frostweave :D

this is definitely one of the most horrible quests in the game. I have been in this little area killing trolls for at least an hour and a half and there's been two boss spawns. I can't remember struggling this long or hard to finish a quest since that one way back in darkshore where you have to loot a chest underwater in the bottom of a ship that is surrounded by like 50+ murlocs that daze you when you swim.

I'm not even sure if you have to kill mobs for the bosses to appear. I was alone in the area, I think. Nobody was around me killing trolls, but the bosses all spawned over time. I just sat in the air hovering on my mount.

If for some reason you should not be able to pick up one of the mob's treasures, it seems you have to kill the other two before the one you missed will respawn. They are just as easy to kill as the other mobs in the area it's just waiting for them to spawn that's the hardest part.

Be aware of where you kill the named mob... I accidentally feared one into a clipped area, which he died right after. The box did not spawn in an area where it could be accessed. Ugh.

Happened to me as well. Make sure you don't forget to loot the chest otherwise u will have to do it ALL over again (especially if your doing the quest late at night like me, with no one to help you, it can be a real nightmare).

The troll bosses seem to be spawning in a rotation like Gawanil==>Chulo==>Kutube'sa==>Gawanil...

I hate this quest. I'm 4 boxing and there's seriously only like 25 seconds to loots the boxes. with ally and horde and everyone trying to get it. I had to wait for 2-3 spawns on each boss, and each one only spawns every 10-15 minutes, so one quest took me 45 minutes.... HORRIBLY DESIGNED QUEST

I tryed for 2 hours getting them to spawned got 2 of them (Gold and Chocolate bar). I was there several time all my way up, now i am 80 and i still haven't completed it, even after spending 1 hour killing the mobs. Maybe intelligent, but spawn rate is surely not good, i got 1 treasure on my hour farmnig at 80 (the chocolate bar, wich i already had) i would say you should skip this unless your lucky and get the first treasures fast.

not trying to be the smart one or something BUT,
This is how its done:
take 4-5 (maybe more) mobs close to each Totem and slay em.. i killed about 20 mobs on all totems,

My kills:
1 Totem: Chulo the Mad's Totem ---> Killed 3 Jin'Alai Medicine Man. then sat down and was going to eat, then he spawn...
2 Totem: Kutube'sa's Totem ---> Killed 3 Jin'Alai Warrior's and 1 Jin'Alai Medicine Man, Sat down and waited.. and he spawn..
3 Totem: Gawanil's Totem ---> Killed 6 Jin'Alai Warrior's and 3 Jin'Alai Medicine Man.

Oh, and i was in grp with an other guy that was on the same q, did it in about 10 min..

They will only spawn on their own, not all at once.

Currently not sure if the spawns-per-number-of-mobs-killed has been 'fixed' yet, the first two came quite quickly for me, but the third is taking his sweet time... and just as I wrote that, he spawned! It's the wowhead touch.

well.. i quest this one out.. i killed the Chulo the Mad.. then i /afk and the 2nd boss respawn.. w/o me killing any trolls.. no other ally or horde around.. so i guess it will respawn on their own.. u have to wait for them.. oh btw i used hide and afk at the center of the pool

Actually this quest is pretty easy, it took me about 7-10 minutes at most,
seeing that anyone can kill the trolls even the earth elemental defenders count for killing these trolls
Not denying that it does include killing a bit of trolls but shouldnt take too long,

plain massacre

The 3 leaders spawned after about 10-15 troll kills each.

...but in the end is not that bad, I summed up a nice ~7g, 2-3 greenies, a stack of frostweave cloth and some honeymint tea ^_^

LE: oh, and as someone mentioned above, it really gives some XP...try and do it while rested and, if your faction controls it, with Essence of Wintergrasp on :)

There is a trick to this quest, you dont just grind mobs, there is also a reason that the totems are sparkling....I found out via experimentation that they will spawn if you drag the mobs to the totems that you cannot click, and kill them. Chulo came out with two kills at the totem....

This method was alot easier than running around killing all of the mobs in the whole area ;)

This is such an annoying quest.

For solo players, that are playing at odd times... Grab a beer and some peanuts. You have some farming to do while you wait for these trolls to spawn.

(I was at about 60-80 kills, which seem to not make a significant difference)

Edit2: @hellomynameis: The quests you listed are pre-quests of To the Witch Doctor, so they already 100%done when you have To the Witch Doctor in a quest log. This is a side quest, that doesn't needed for Strange Mojo->Gal'darah Must Pay quest-chain. And I said that handing in To the Witch Doctor opens The Leaders at Jin'Alai.
Downranking me = saying that you can get The Leaders at Jin'Alai without complited To the Witch Doctor.

Well, yes, downranking your first reply to this post with 1->5 parts of quest-chain was a mistake from my side, but still Strange Mojo->Gal'darah Must Pay is a long quest-chain, where The Leaders at Jin'Alai is a "branch of tree", it's not needed to continue quest-chain, but reciving this quest is a result of doing quest-chain.
And as I said in a first place: To the Witch Doctor(aka the 5th step of that long quest-chain) opens side quest The Leaders at Jin'Alai. Which is a)True, b)Was mentioned before anyone did.

Okay... so when i arrived at the mentioned location... noone else was or had been there for a while.... so every one of the guys was already spawned...so i killed every troll in sight including the main guys... but they did not drop any chests of treasure..... very aggravating. /abandon imo

One thing I noticed about this quest, is that when one of the guys spawns, he yells something in chat. So it's a good idea to keep an eye out for any yells. That was how I knew to stop killing mobs and start looking for the bosses.

For some reason the its not always the leader who's totem you are killing at spawns. I was killing trolls with my back against Kutube'sa Totem and Chulo the Mad spawned. Not sure if this its just me or not but make sure to watch your chat log for when they yell incase a leader from another totem spawns when you arn't looking

i easily killed over 50 trolls and it only took a few 7 mins nut then again i have good gear and talents for DPS so its kinda easy.Basicly if you have a good DPS this quest shouldnt be to hard but if youre a healer or t tank i sugest you get a party with at least 1 other member

i dont know why everyone says you do not need to kill it in order to loot the chest. this is only going to work for SAME FACTION players. meaning if you are on horde, and an alliance players tags and kills the leader, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO LOOT THE CHEST. i have been killing trolls for approx. 25 mins to get the 2nd leader to spawn. when he did, an alliance player killed it, and i was not able to loot the chest. (im on horde) so f'ing great, i been here in total 45 mins killing these stupid mofo trolls, to have an alliance steal my kill. great job blizzard.

kutube'sa seems to be the only one that will not allow the two factions to loot his chest, the others will. however, this totally screws up the rotation of the leaders appearing. if you are unlucky enough to have someone on the opposite faction try to summon these bosses AFTER you have killed enough trolls to get the first one to pop, everyone will have to go thru killing the trolls AGAIN to get them to spawn. this is not an intelligent quest, this is the most annoying stupid-ass quest i have ever done. killing murlocs is better than killing these stupid trolls. to all alliance players, suck an egg. y'all suck.

I believe this quest almost certainly uses timers.

I killed anywhere from 10 to 20 mobs between each "boss" spawn, and, having noticed the great discrepancies between mine and other players' results, I started to suspect something else was involved. Keep in mind that nobody else was doing this quest as I was.

So, for the final "boss" troll, I started the in-game stopwatch right as I killed the second "boss", to see what it might show me. I then killed a handful more trolls for another six minutes or so, and then decided to literally just sit down near the last totem.

For the next five minutes, I just sat there. I attacked nothing. As I was the only person around—it was an off-peak hour—no nearby trolls were slain at all the whole time. (I'm sure the trolls appreciated this.)

Yet—hey!—at almost exactly 10 minutes after I killed the second "boss" troll, the third spawned, shouting his bad-guy drivel.

It seems you do not have to kill countless mobs to get the bosses to spawn. Kill a dozen, just to be safe, and be patient.

Finally, if I am right about this, note that it will take you at least 30 minutes to complete this quest, every time. Yeah, I'm not happy about it either.

Another terrible quest that hasnt been adjusted/fixed since I leveled my main. Got 2 of the treasures super fast, been sitting here killing dudes in front of the last guys totem for more than 20 minutes.

I had to create an account just to say how long it took me to get these mobs to spawn. At least I could accumulate some silver whilst I was doing it but it took me about 25 minutes to manage to loot all 3 treasure chests.

Easily the worst designed quest I've ever encountered. After grinding 4 dozen or so of the things I didn't even remember to pick up the box on the second boss, which is a horrible mistake as it disappears extremely quickly.

I must say, this was THE MOST hard and confusing quest I ever came by, but I did end up finishing it this way...

It was confusing at first when I thought I failed because another player killed the bosses first. I got really frustrated after no bosses came, so I kept redoing the quest. That is not how you should do it. All you have to do is keep killing the trolls until one of the bosses randomly yells. Then you find the boss, kill him, and continue with the killing of trolls. The quest can get really confusing and long if there is another player there doing the same quest. I finished the quest by killing aprox. 30 trolls when I understood what to do.

If you follow my plan, you will get this quest done in 10 minutes. If you did not read this, it might take you 2 hours like me before I knew what to do.

Avoid the medicine men if possible. They hit you with a nasty poison that will dot you to death pretty quickly. Also, I killed one of the leaders and died from the poison at the same time. It's a very short run back but even so, the leader's body and his treasure were already despawned and I had to cycle thru all three again to get it.

This quest is simple, stand by one of the 3 totems of 1 of the leaders and keep killing trolls around that totem until the leader appears. For me it took about 6 kills before the leaders appeared. Once the leader has been killed a box will appear next to its corpse and you can loot the treasure. After you have done that just go to the next leader totem and do the same thing. This quest is easy and will not take long.

This quest is VERY easy and will NOT take long!

Intelligent design my #ss.

First of all, this system was used long before WOTLK, so all players could loot boss chests (take gruuls sons in blade edge in TBC). It's not intelligent, but rather a quest designed with a brain usage behind it. As all quests in WoW should.

Second of all.. intelligent or not, I rather compete with other players (Or invite them to a group, duuuh) then grind mobs for half a hour.

Don't just loot the bosses' bodies and forget about the chest they drop next to them. I killed all 3 and forgot on Chulo to loot his item. =( Went back a couple min later, no body. ARGH. Gotta do the whole thing over again.

Edit: Also since I had to do it again I timed it (lvl 80 just ripping through trolls). After the first guy (Kutube'sa) died... it took 3 min of killing for Gawanil to spawn, and then 5 min after that for Chulo. So don't worry, you can do this in a lot less time than the 30 min previously reported.

This quest had me so frustrated I googled the quest to come and found this website to see if there were any tricks to this quest that I wasn't understanding from the Quest Log itself. While reading the comments, I'd occasionally mouse over the World of Warcraft button on my task bar (thank you Vista!) to see if I was being attacked. Much to my surprise, there was Chulo the Mad, attacking me. So goes to show you, that you really do not need to kill any mobs. Give it a bit, grab a drink, and just sit and wait. They spawn.

Also, any of the "order of spawns" that were mentioned earlier were incorrect for me. Perhaps it's random to each person on the quest? Who knows.

Is this quest bugged as of 5/27/09? Ive been farming for like 2 hrs, with at least 5 other ppl, waiting for my GM ticket to pop, and have made like 200g and 7 bars of exp and NOT ONE boss has spawned. I asked around in chat, ppl said they spawned yesterday? Anyone know whats up with this?

The loot can also despawn in a fairly short amount of time. I killed one leader and got the drop but two nearby mobs got aggro on me. By time I finished killing them the loot box vanished. Had to go through the whole thing again as they spawn in order so had to re-kill the first two to get the third to spawn for a second time

Zul'Drak in general has a ton of buggy quests, but I'd say controlling the abominations was far worse than this one. Here, you just have to sit around and farm trolls, which at least gets you money, cloth and some grey/green items to sell.

This quest took longer than most, it was about 10 kills inbetween each boss, im alliance and there was another horde player helping out so we both looted the same chests, the only reason i found the quest worth doing was because it has two follow up quests that i didn't want to miss.

Truthfully, just dont be an idiot, I did the same thing as the people above by skipping picking up the treasure its really easy to do, because you get in grind mode and keep going, then without realizing it their dead body falls on top of the treasure so you cant see it and you move on... Just dont forget...

Count me in the mindless idiots that forgot to loot the chest, I killed the first 2 and took their chests and it slipped my mind when I got the last. After reading on here I was about to just /afk in the pool and wait 30 min. for him to spawn again, but if you're just going to afk you might as well grind the trolls. At the very least I'm gathering some frostweave.

Besides, how often do you find a single quest you can get 8% of a level off of?

Also I started my stopwatch when Chulo *spawned*, I killed him with 40 seconds on the timer, and then proceeded to grind trolls (approx. 1 troll died every 10 seconds including travel time on my Ret pally, zero downtime). At almost exactly 4 minutes on the stopwatch after Chulo spawned Kutube'sa spawned.

I killed Chulo, killed about 50 more, started reading this page, and in the middle of reading, was attacked by Kutube'sa. Have yet to kill the final guy...

this is better than many of the mindless quest where you don't kill ANYTHING and is still a pain to do. This quest just gives you a goal to grind for and is one of the better experience giving quest in that you're grinding mobs a little bit.

This is quite effectively a grinding quest. I've been through this thing on two toons, and when I got to my 3rd one, I got a sudden feeling of deja vu when I killed the 20th troll with no boss spawn. Great. Dropped it and completed some quests that would give me some real xp.

Is this quest still working?
After spending one hour killing these mobs over and over again.
I yet to see a leader spawn nor chest.

Confirmed. I just did this quest on a second character without killing anything but the three target mobs. Go there, kill whichever is up and go work on something else for a while.

I have now done this quest on two characters without killing anything except the target mobs. The first time I passed by, Gawanil was up. Killed him and went off to work on other quests. The next time I flew by it was Chulo the Mad, and then later Kutube'sa was up. I killed nothing else and saw no evidence other people had been killing trolls

Killed about 150 Trolls on EU-Ysera yesterday evening, there were also 2-3 alliance players there.

We fought there for about 1h15min... NOTHING. Not a single boss spawned. At first we just randomly killed the trolls, then pulled them towards the totems, pulled them onto the totems with Death Grip... no boss showed up.

Have heard reports of many others, apparently this quest seems bugged right now.

If the "bosses" really are randomely timed, then i was pretty unlucky! this quest took me about 1,5-2 hours to do, and because i had only read the 3-4 first comments here on wowhead, i thought they spawned when enough trolls were killed, so i solo killed ALOT of trolls to get the "bosses" to spawn, by the time i handled in the quest i had went from 67% XP to 96% XP at lvl 76! JUST FROM KILLING TROLLS! so if you are doing this quest, be sure to read all the comments listed here.
I didn't mind the XP, but its god damn boring just farming trolls because you think that makes some stupid "boss" trolls spawn :s

I think its a combination of a timer and a kill count. I killed one guy, waited 10 minutes then killed one trash troll and the next spawned. Same pattern for my third guy.

Edit: Meant to add that I was the only person in the little yard where they spawn and the elementals from the base killed maybe 2 or 3 trolls the whole time I was there.

It seems that there is a certain number of kills that will spawn the bosses and if the set number of kills isn't reached within 10-15 minutes, one of the bosses randomly spawn.

Great quest... if theres others there. Even two others. I remember back at release that when I was with the mass levelers at the start of Wrath there were like 15 there and the quest was fantastic. Now, leveling again on alts its very slow and a pointless grind.

What sucks is I was on my last treasure, Chulo's and a second before trying to loot... I DC... and came back like 2min later with the treasure despawned... /facedesk.... *goes back to kill more and more trolls....*

YMMV, but it took me 3 and a half minutes (using the in-game timer) between the second "boss" and the last. I didn't keep track of how many trolls I killed in between, but I was going pretty much non-stop. Since this was the 7th character I've done this quest on, I can say with a fair amount of certainty that there's not a time _requirement_ but that it's likely just random, with the game possibly "helping" you out after some amount of time in case your number never comes up.

Having done this quest many times now, I've noticed they spawn soon after you clear an entire region around each totem and in sequential order. If that doesn't work try troll-genocide.

There's a quest chain or two at Zim'Torga that don't require you to have this one done. If you don't want to bother grinding and there's not a lot of people questing when you quest, just breeze by the pools every time you go back to hand a quest in. You'll definitely have two or hopefully all three of the leaders dead by the time you've finished questing at Zim'Torga.

Intelligently designed quest? Hardly. More like one of the most poorly designed quests in the game. Took me 20 minutes between "bosses" to get them all, and even then I had to do one of them twice because the chest he dropped became unlootable after someone else cam and looted it first.

Please oh please remember this. When you kill them, they dont have the treasure on them, it spawns a little box next to them and THATS the quest item. I forgot to loot the chest off Chulo and I wanted to scream.

ADVICE: To borrow a thought from Blue Oyster Cult...don't fear the "mad" man.

I killed the first two bosses then got to Chulo The Mad and, being a warlock, I ran through my cycle of spells which, as I am in a PvP realm, involves a dose of fear. I use fear when mobs aren't too close to keep me ready for PvP. Anyway, my fear sent Chulo running up behind some pillars where he aggroed 2 other trolls, which I quickly fought and killed. Looked all over and Chulo was nowhere to be found, nor was his treasure. Started to kill more trolls, hoping he would respawn since I never looted his treasure. A few dozen kills later, the FIRST troll boss showed up again (the one in the center area). By that time, I'd leveled to 78, so I went to train. Not sure I'm going to go back for this quest. I suspect that if I hadn't feared him, it would have been fine.

If you look closely at the totems you can see them glittering - the more trolls you kill the the glittering becomes more intense - mayhap this can be used as an indicator of when one will spawn?

make sure Kutube'sa isnt standing on the stone ledge poking out of the snow right behind his totem when he dies.. the chest will spawn on the ice underneath the ledge and you won't be able to get to it

Wierdly enough, I was reading comments, had 1 more to go, and @ 1/2 thru the first page I checked back. A troll was trying to kill me. Quikly killed him then the last guy I was looking for shows up. The Wowhead buff worked!

Killing trolls doesn't seem to actually matter -- the bosses are simply on random long timers (20-30 minutes). I had one boss show up before I had actually killed anything.

The treasures come from boxes that spawn when you kill each boss. On one boss the treasure box bugged and wasn't lootable, and on another the box despawned before I could grab it -- it only hangs around for about a minute, and I was being assaulted by a pack of trolls and couldn't get to it before it decided to leave.

This quest is more frustrating than those old world escorts that aggro everything within 2 miles, or those with 0.000001% drop rates. I thought this was the type of quest they were trying to kill off in Wrath, but apparently some designer liked it enough to sneak it in. That designer should be fired -- out of a cannon, into the sun.

The Easiest way to do this quest will be shown below! Follow exactly as written.

Normally when you arrive at this area to do this quest, the first boss will be there already.

If not, there will be 1 of the 3 bosses there for sure.

Regardless of which boss is up, it doesn't matter where you are in Zul'Drak, or for that matter, anywhere at all.

The bosses are on a 10 minute timer and will spawn regardless of how many Trolls you kill.

the way I did it, killed the first guy, continued my quests around the area, and when the giant red letters pop up saying there is a Boss that has spawned, go there and pick up the chest.

Regardless of who kills it, horde, alliance, enemy or not, the chest is retrievable by anyone.

just completed this quest... here's my notes on the mechanics...

disrupted the cauldrons... killed most everything around in the process. continued to kill for about 1-3 minutes and the first guys spawned.

continued killing (may as well get XP while waiting right?) didn't time it but the next guy spawned after about 10 minutes I'd say.

the third guy i timed. after killing the second boss I sat at the middle totem for 16 minutes and didn't kill anything. and he did not spawn. I got bored and started killing things, at exactly the 20 minute mark the third guy spawned.

I really recommend you just go about your business doing quests and on the way visiting to check for the spawns, the bosses actually spawn automatically after a certain time so if you don't feel like slaying trolls you don't really have to either...

If you prefer killing for experience I don't blame you either, just letting those that would prefer to skip the farm to know that they don't have to either but it costs time as in you have to visit it and check on the spawn at a 15 min interval or something. :)

No one has been killing them and after 15-20 min it re-spawned by itself when I flew over so I killed it and looted my quest item, now I continue to quest and next time I am near by I'll visit to check for the spawn.

I killed 3 randoms, the middle guy spawned, killed more of them for about an hour, stopped to read comments on here, and Gawanil spawned. Figure by the time I'm done typing this, I should be ready to kill Chulo.

Thanks to this quest there are no more trolls in northrend.

Kill a few hundred thousand and they pop up next to their respective totems, this is the price you pay for leveling an alt. I swear I had to repair 2 times..

instead of just staying in the area and killing the trolls, keep questing. u will have the chance of killing trolls that spawn in other areas of zul. go back periodically to this quest and the next chief will spawn. thats what i did and it worked.

You basically have to kill the trolls around the area .
There are 3 big totems , that the mobs you need are going to appear at , While you are killing the trolls , you will notice some YELLING
when that happens go to the totems and you will see some bigger troll , kill it and when it's dead near the corpse will be your treasure !
Example :

Gawanil yells : Kill them all and take back Zim'Torga!

took me about 6 minutes to have all 3 treasures !

If you think you're ready to do this quest, take a long needle and stick it in your eye. Be sure to wiggle before you pull it out. Next, start a fire and get a poker nice and hot in the embers. Stick the hot poker in your mouth until it cools. Lastly, suspend a large iron bar above your bed just before you go to sleep. Have someone make a loud noise in your room after you're well asleep so you sit up quickly to see what is going on.

If you somehow enjoyed all of that, you're prepared to do this quest.

The number of kills has no impact on the trolls spawning.

The first troll for me spawned after killing 3 mobs. After that the second one spawned while I was afk (no one else around to kill trolls). The third took forever to spawn. I killed numerous trolls.

So, I can confirm that the amount of people you kill does not mean anything. I have cleared the entire area of trolls 3 times now and still no mini bosses have spawned. While I alt tabbed out to post here, one of the mini bosses spawned. You do not have to kill anyone at all, they are indeed on a timer. After starting this post, I just waited for the last one to spawn while flying over head and it worked.

The people who said that this quest was "intelligent" and "knows which boss you need" have absolutely NO idea what they are talking about.

I happened to miss the second bosses chest, and it despawns like 10 seconds after it drops. So instead of the quest "know"ing which boss I still needed after the third, it started the cycle all over again...so I wound up killing enough mobs for 5 bosses to spawn just so I could complete it. All of which solo.

All in all, at level 78 just the xp from killing mobs alone was like 10% of the level. But dont miss a chest, or you will want to punch babies like I do right now.

Honestly, this quest wasn't too bad. I didn't time it, but I know I've had worse quests. After reading about the timing, I think mine was about 4-10-10, so randomly every 4 or 10 minutes seems plausible.

I managed to just destroy everything on my hunter with my warp stalker pet. Worth the time tbh. Plus, I had quite a bit of rested xp left, so it worked out pretty good for me.

This quest does take forever IF your doing it alone. Took me quite a while to spawn all three. Chulo the Mad Spawned randomly a few minutes after spawning Gawanil, I hadn't killed anything inbetween.

It's on a timer. Start a stopwatch, kill a few, go away, come back in 5-10 minutes, a boss will usually be there, kill him, go away, come back 5-10 minutes later, find, kill, repeat. The Bosses seem to appear in a set order. And DON't be like me and kill a leader and forget to loot the treasure in the box that drops.

This quest is probably one of the worst quests you will have to do to get your Loremaster. I got the 2 side bosses to spawn from kills but the boss in the middle spawned as if on a timer (I left and came back and he was there).

Please remember to pick up the treasure. It is a separate drop off the mobs. All of mine spawned INSIDE the corpse. So if you don't see it that is probably where it is. Check closely...

I dunno, I just solo'd this with my 78 Human hunter, and it took me all of 12 minutes for both the cauldrons and the treasures. Just kill everything in site and keep an eye on your chatlog, the bigbads will have their little dialogue, then they drop pretty easily.

WARNING - By patch 5.3 this quest is officially bugged with no apparent fix or ETA on it's fixing. Due to this any achievments depending on this quest, as the Loremaster one, can't be accomplished. This info was get during a chat with GMs.

Was doing this quest and brought in two capped friends to help and we had to have killed 100 to 150 and nothing spawned. I have also tried it on my own several times. There is no way in the world this quest is working as of now 5.3. Which sucks cause I want Loremaster and there is no way to finish Zul'Drak with out doing this questline.

I can officially say I was doing this quest on my goblin DK today and it was not bugged for me so I would hope to believe that it means they have resolved the issue for anyone who was having problems with it.

I can confirm that this quest is NOT bugged... It just takes a little patience... Did it today, killing about 15-20 trolls in the process of each "boss"... The treasure spawns about 5 seconds, usually at the feet of said boss, after you kill him... If the boss appears WITHOUT yelling out, kill him and kill more trolls, for some reason they do occasionally spawn...

There were several people working on this quest and I discovered that, if I was quick, I could loot the chest after someone else did. Saved me a bit of time.

I only needed to kill about 30 for all three treasures. I just stood near the summoning totem until they spawned

Here's a new story for the long list of bad days that this quest has caused...
I couldn't figure out why the second boss wasn't spawning the first time I did this quest, so I tabbed out to check Wowhead and figure out what was going on. I read the theory that the bosses are actually on a timer, tabbed back into WoW - and found that Kutube'sa had spawned and killed my poor Worgen while I wasn't looking. Dang it, Blizz!

Well this only took me 5 minutes so either it's been fixed or there being no one in northrend has an effect on it

Just completed this quest (3rd Feb 2018) and it took approx 4-5 mobs for each boss to spawn. It seems they have amended the spawn rate (or I just got lucky) as I was not looking forward to doing this quest and it took me no more than 10 mins.

If the boss isn't there, kill mobs around it. When I went 2 were already up but I stood there waiting for the 3rd. Didn't spawn until I killed a couple trolls right beside his totem.

Some of the Drakkari trolls have gathered at the Pools of Jin'Alai to the southwest. We be needin' to draw out their leaders, and Ahunae knows just how you be doin' it, too!

Go in there and kill those trolls. When you kill enough, their leaders show up.

When they show up next to their totems, you make sure to be gettin' the treasure of Kutube'sa, Gawanil, and Chulo the Mad, mon.
