I went to those coordinates and found a captian, killed her several times and all she dropped was a letter for another quest. Is this quest bugged?

When using quest helper be aware that it sometimes gives you the wrong location. This location has a similar ring in the ground but no captain.

If you are not aware of this you may spend a lot of time looking for the captain at the wrong place.

I found the captain at the coordinates above as well.

Why is his comment purged? I'm having the same trouble. I killed the captain at least 20 times but nothing dropped for me to gain information from the Ley Line Focus on the Glittering Strand.

Is it a 100% drop rate? I tried abandoning the quest several times but the control ring still doesn't drop. I guess I'll just abandon it and leave it be.

The NPC may drop a quest letter, but she should also always drop the ring. Look in your inventory for it. The drop should be 100 percent.
For those who get the letter, its a simple matter of going back to the quest giver who will express some grief over having killed someone related to Stormwind. It does not start a chain quest and the quest is complete at that point. Sort of like a bonus XP for the quest, I guess.

Note that the mods QuestHelper and (possibly) Carbonite may bug out on this and tell you to go to the ley line in the middle of the woods. That would make you want to kill Lieutenant Ta'zinni, who will NOT drop the item you need. He is for the follow-up quest.

Instead, you need to go to the beach a bit farther away than the woods and kill Captain Emmy Malin.

(The reason that these mods will tell you to go to the wrong place is that the quest condition "Ley Line Focus Information Retrieved" is the exact same for all of these quests, so it'll tell you to go to the closest location in its database where people have completed that condition.)

ok, so i killed this %^&*! at least 23 times and still got nothing to drop. but managed to get a blue drop from her. WTF! any sugestions?

i have manage to do it on 3 different toons atleast 3 different builds of wow and all of them have been 100% drops, also should be noted though i never gotten a blue off that mob, so congrats on getting a blue, but did you have the quest for it, if so it is a 100% drop rate.

Be sure when you get this quest you don't do what I did. I got the item and went all the way Back to Stars' Rest without using it first! Be sure to use the Ley Line Focus Control Ring before you head back to Stars' Rest.

For all Those that CANNOT get the ring to drop and are sure that they are at the right location. Put pets on PASSIVE, you have to get the killing blow...maybe even do all the damage to get the ring..

I killed the Captain several times with no drop, as soon as I put my FelGuard on Passive and killed the Captain Solo I got the drop.

It is a 100% drop rate, but however... There is a bug in this drop, when you loot her body it doesn't actually show you taking the ring, or taking it in your quest log. But it is there. The item is called the "Ley Line Focus Control Ring" It looks like a ring you can wear and use, it's BABY BLUE and WHITE with a BABY BLUE aura/light coming off of it. It is against a DARK BLUE background for the item picture.

After killing Captain Malin Emma must find the blue ring in your inventory. Go to the gate and use it. The ring fell to me a letter with the task.

Important to note, that the other posters are correct. The Captain drops the ring and you don't, I repeat DON'T get any warning that you did. You must use the ring where the NPC is in order to get credit for the quest. Then you can return it.

The Focus on the Beach

Obtain the Ley Line Focus Control Ring and use it to gain information from the Ley Line Focus on the Glittering Strand.

Then, return to the Image of Archmage Modera at Stars' Rest.

Description

The mage hunter forces are active on the Glittering Strand to the south of Moonrest Gardens. My guess is that you'll find a heavily guarded focus on the beach and a captain who is in charge of it.

No doubt the captain will have some sort of controlling device on their person. Get the controller and use it on the focus.

With any luck, we'll be able to get some more information about what they're really up to out there.
