Just move to the waters around the farm (45.8, 56.9) and throw down your totem. Kill a few crocklisks while the totem is up (it lasts 2 minutes and you can only throw it down every 2 minutes).

Be on the lookout for a named crocklisk that wanders those waters. I can't find the quest for him at the moment on Wowhead, but you get it at the Hunter's Rise in Thunderbluff.

In order for the kill to be counted toward the quest you must have aggro at the point where the mob dies. So, if you're a class that uses a pet (warlock, hunter) then make sure to get aggro from your pet onto yourself.

As a level 43 warlock, I turned off Torment on my Voidwalker and pulled the crocs near to the totem, dotted them up and then used Drain Life.

Note: The max range of the totem seemed to be between 5 - 8 yards and I could kill multiple crocs per totem.

I would say, pull them on to the totem. 1-2 steps are enough far for losing that mob :S As 44 lock the best way was to standing on totem, dots on crocs, sacrifice VW, then Hellfire.

Drywallow Daggermaw gives credit for this quest aswell. Though the totem can only be placed in the Quagmire. Meaning you can pull the Daggermaws into the area.

I found as a mage the best way to do this is to plant the totem in the middle of the water and range pull to it.

Qwirk: had 2 in our party on the same quest. Put out 2 totems by accident. When we killed the croc, we both go credit for 2 kills. That's 1 kill, 2 credits per person on quest.

I also experienced the 1 kill per totem bug. The totem is on a 2 minute cooldown, which means you will spend at a minimum 20 minutes doing this quest if you aren't in a group.

Just tested 2 min ago. You must have aggro when the croc dies. Confirmed that works on any kind of crocolisk. I had killed 3 of them with a single totem.

A good tip... You can make The Reagent Thief at the same time... Just go down and kill one croc and then go up agian and kill Darkfangs until the cooldown is over

Note: If you are mage and using Frost nova and then KILL it while it's in Frost nova... You want get credit for 1 kill...Then don't kill it while it's in Frost nova

You just NEED to get aggro when you KILL it..the you'll get credit for 1 kill

Any class with a pet must have the killing blow themselves, not their pets, otherwise you won't get credit, that's from my experiences at least.

As a hunter, you *DONT* want your pet to have agro while the croc mob dies. Make sure you somehow get agro the moment before it dies (after deploying the totem) I ended up kiting the mob around with Wing Clip and Concussive Shot, but feel free to turn off Growl on your pet and train your weapon skills :-)

Just did this quest. You can kill multiple mobs during a single totem cast. Also they do not have to be the mottled drywallow crocolisks, you can use the others which are around. Personally I did about half and half with the drywallow daggermaws which were the other side of the path to Tabetha's farm.

you prolly did not have aggro when it died. I ran into the same thing at first, but as they got closer to death, I pulled off my VW and finished him with my shadow Bolt or my wand and I got the credit. As a lvl 37 lock, I was able to kill 2 crocs per totem.

Basic demo lock strategy:

-Do your normal rotation while letting your VW tank him until the Croc has about 40% life left (send in VW, immolate, Curse of Agony, Corruption, then wand).
-Spam Searing Pain until it is dead.

Very frustrating quest for a BM hunter solo. Even with my pet's growl off I was not getting credit for some reason. I finally teamed up with another hunter (so we could get two for each one) and we still had to slug it out. Finally enlisted the aid of my druid friend and it went quickly. This game mechanic should be changed in my opinion. The quest is not worth the frustration.

One thing that helped me a lot was to use Scare Beast. Being a BM hunter my melee wasn't too great, but if I just used Scare Beast it was easy peasy! Didn't even use my pet!

One thing that no one has mentioned is that you have to kill the right mobs. The Snappers WON'T COUNT! It must have the word Crocolisk in it's name for it to count.

im not sure if this happened to anyone else, but i got bugged out and the totem wouldnt get the tests... i logged out and back in and it worked.

make sure you're getting the tests before wasting the time of killing them.

1. I HATE CROCODILES
2. Though I completed it, I'd have to say this quest is the most ANNOYING quest my level 40 hunter has done to date.

This quest is a PAIN. In order for the kills to count you can be no farther than 2 steps from the totem. Also the area of crocs is fairly large.

The crocks are level 38-40mobs and are found near the waters

The totems only last 1 min

Be sure you have agroo in the end and not your pet

You should also kill the orange spiders around the area also to complete the quest The Regent Thief

A frost-spec'd mage's Frostbite (chance to freeze the target for 5s) also causes the mob to detarget you. If you kill the mob whilst it's in this state it won't count for this quest.

I found this pretty easy but used my wand to get what i was after then my pet didn't get in the way and was a help rather than a burden warlocks are better using there wands for this then you get your reward :)

I need to add a correction to this: a Drywallow Snapper who was in the area I pulled to The Quagmire where my totem was. I did not get credit for the kill, and I was killing it without the use of any pets So if the 'any crocolisk' were true, it isn't now; it has to be Mottled Drywallow Crocolisk or Drywallow Daggermaw.

You can plant the totem after the battle starts and still get credit for the test. Good idea to hot key it.

i can confirm the "aggro" requirement.

As a mage, i was using Frost Nova and CoC/Arc explosion, but due to Frost Nova they stopped targetting me, thus i wasnt getting the credit.

Mages: Don't frost nova! (or stand in melee range, if you want to nova for the +crit)

The quest is easier than I thought, I had my minion out and couldn't work out why I wasn't getting the kills. Basically stand close to the marsh, deploy the totem and then kill the croc close to the totem. Just a tip, place your totem in between as many crocs as possible because it takes 2mins to cooldown.

For warlocks you DEFINATELY want to melee for the killing blow. I must have killed about 10 crocs with spells & never got credit for them. I switched to my melee weapon to kill them & started getting all my kills to count. Played wear & tear on my healing potions but worked over all.

If you watch as a croc dies while under the effect of the totem, there is a shadow bolt type animation that goes from the croc to whatever it's targeting. This is the reason the croc needs to be targeting you when it dies; this bolt has to hit you for you to get credit.

And, contrary to previous posts, you don't have to melee the croc; ranged and spells do give you credit. Just make sure your totem is still up, it's within range and the croc is targeting you when it dies and you won't have any trouble.

i dont know if it was just me or not but sometimes everything would be perfectly fine and i wouldn't get credit for some random kills. They were the correct crocolisks, in range of the totem, in the quagmire, and i'm a mage so no pet problems. the only reason i can think that it didn't work is that maybe the "test" that this quest is based around can fail randomly or something.

If you party with someone while doing this quest, make sure both totems are down at the time of killing. It will count as 2 kills if you have 2 totems down. Party with 5 people and you get the quest completed in 2 kills.

Hunters, be aware. If you have the crocs as your PETS, the totem will channel him instead of the mobs. This quest is buged in so many ways =/

As a hunter i made my pet pull and let it get enough agro. Then i put it on shy and healed it. While it was still be agroed and healed i was shooting it. If this is done well it is a very good method of not getting agro yourself.

Left my boar on passive.

IT is a bit of a PITA to kite these guys with any effectiveness and not pull fifteen bajillion mobs onto me. But, I guess its good practice?

As of patch 3.0.2, as a BM specced hunter, the quest works properly.

That is to say, my pet had agro, and did the killing blows on crocodiles, and I got credit. And here I was dreading this quest on my new hunter, heh.

When you have multiple crocs affected by the totem, each kill will count for as many affected. Dunno if it's a bug but it's really helpful.

Does anyone else find this quest a little odd? The totem you're testing doesn't appear to have any impact on the crocs, and Apprentice Garion just seems to give up on it. Seems a little pointless, or it's just another unfinished Dustwallow Marsh quest?

Just completed as a level 39 hunter. Thought it would be complicated after reading some of these comments, but it was really simple. I just went to areas with lots of crocs, threw down the totem, set my pet to passive, pulled the mob into totem range and used melee attacks. Once you've got the first blows in yourself you can set your pet to defensive (or leave on passive but use Claw, like I did) and you still get the credit. I think provided you stay within melee range when the mob dies you'll get the test. Some did give two credits but that's a good thing! When I handed the quest in I got 3900 XP.

I have a feeling that if a DOT kills the croc, you won't get credit. I was stuck at 8/10 for a while then I just used direct damage spells and I got the last two credits.

To get a kill for the quest you have to kill the croc while it's affected by the debuff from the totem. The debuff is activated, then lasts a few seconds and then activated again and so on, so you have to time it well.

Also as previously stated, one kill (currently) counts as two.

To be very honest this is the easiest quest I have done so far. Just set it on the water and aggro a crock and they count twice so if you have to get 10 like the quest says so just kill 5 and you will be done with it. hope this helps.!

This quest is both bugged and confusing, so here's a summary of what you need to know:

Only the two types of crocolisks listed within the quest text can give credit. Named crocolisks do not give credit.

If a pet gets the killing blow on a crocolisk, you may not get credit.

If a crocolisk is killed while the totem's debuff is not affecting it, you will not get credit.

One kill will often give double the credit.

Very bugged indeed. After my first few giving me double credits, I'm getting none no matter how many I kill. Looks like the only way to fix it might be to abandon/retake the quest.

As a frost mage, here's what I've found out:

I killed multiple crocs (with one totem) while frozen, so that doesnt seem to be the issue. However, if the mob doesnt have the totem affecting it (nothing to do with range), which is the bolt animation (if you target the croc, you can see it - it's about 1 second cooldown till the totem casts again), it doesnt count.

About the 2-credit-1-kill:
First kill: 1 credit
Following kills: 2 credits

When I killed 3 crocs with one totem, it didnt recount for all the ones I've killed either (I thought maybe this could happen, since the totem also bolts the dead crocs).

as of 7/06/2009 it is still bugged. i just spend half an hour killing crocs because the kills werent being counted. i was in the quagmire, i was not in a raid group (and why would i be at 39) i am a warrior so no pet to steal argo. it seems (at least for me) that the kills will only be counted as long as the debuff from the totem is active. the debuff lasts for about 2 seconds has a 1-2 second downtime then starts again. my problem was my killing blows were landing in that downtime so the kills were not being counted. it was only when the killing blow landed during the debuff that the kill counted.

and it still counted as 2 >.> this quest is likly to never be fixed.

It seems like reactive damage also would cause you to not get credit for the kill.
I was running my pala through this quest and after getting double credit for the first croc, i got zero credits for the next 4 crocs. Changed from Retribution Aura to Devotion Aura and voila I was getting credits for all kills after that.

It is still buggy as of 3.1

-Credit for 2 is still being given
-Killing with a Spell will often cause you to gain no credit

If running as boomkin I was never getting credit, moment I switched to cat form I started getting double creds.

Istarted and finished this quest just west of the pond in front of Tabethas house. You only need to kill 5 Crocolisks to finish the quest but you must make sure the Crocolisks are under the effect of the Captured Totem in order for the kill to be counted. You will not get the kill if the debuff effect is not active on the Crocolisks. Some classes might not have any trouble with this but for caster classes, you may need to change your rotation up a bit.

To some this may be obvious but it may confuse some at first. Get the finishing blow while the Captured Totem debuff is active on the Crocolisks.

This bug has been fixed in patch 3.2.

doin this quest on my shammy right now, the mobs get a 2sec debuff from the totem but there seems to be a space where there isnt any debuff on them between pulses, i didn't get credit when the debuff wasn't on them. just pointing it out because i spent a good 10 minutes getting frustrated with the quest.

It seems reverse-bugged in patch 3.2; sometimes when I kill a croc (by myself, my pet's just watching the ENTIRE TIME) I get NO credit. I hate this quest.

The totem puts a debuff on mobs called "Captured Totem" which lasts for 2 seconds, then there is a short pause before this debuff is re-applied. I noticed if there are multiple mobs (including corpses) the debuff might get applied to something else. I also noticed that when I killed crocs that did not have the debuff, I did not get credit towards the quest.
So, I am deducing that you need to kill a croc while it has the debuff in order to get credit towards the quest.

As a rogue, it seems that if a tick of deadly poison is responsible for the killing blow, you don't get credit for the kill. Having deadly on, I missed a few kills, but the problem went away as soon as I switched to Instant. Need someone to confirm, as I don't feel like waiting for my ticks to kill the crocs and would much rather get back to levelling.

For some reason I only get credit when I kill the crocolisk under the following conditions:

- it has the debuff from the totem (totem doesn't keep the crocolisk debuffed 100% of the time)
- you have to give the killing blow (get rid of pets and Molten Armor)
- you have to give the killing blow while it's low on HP (i.e. you can't one shot it from 100% -> 0%)

As a level 80 Mage, I was one shotting these crocolisks and not getting credit, so I had to melee them down until they were around 30% HP. Once they reached that level, I stopped meleeing, waited for the totem to apply the debuff, then used an instant cast spell to kill them for credit.

As of patch 3.2, this quest appears to be bugged again. Totally sucks doing this as a hunter. Ive read and tried all of the above methods but to no avail. The only time I get credit is when I have aggro over my pet AND when I land a melee killing blow on the croc.

Needless to say this was a very frustrating quest for me. I did not receive credit for each kill, although I was in the Quagmire (that is very important). It only seems to give me credit when I have the totem in the water and would even bug out and try to interact with dead crocolisks. Another frustration you may come across is that the crocs are very spread out and with the cool down, it was kind of annoying. Unless you absolutely need the experience, I would recommend avoiding this quest. It only awards 45 silver anyways.

Doing this now on a rogue (alone), I have been getting either 1 or 0 credits per kill. I couldn't figure out a pattern, it didn't seem related to what abilities I used to kill the mobs or the specific kind of mob. Very frustrating given the spread of the crocolisk spawns and the absurd 2 minute cooldown on the totem.

The totem does do something. You only get credit for the kill if the crocodile dies while under the effects of the totem. That is to say, the totem puts a debuff on the croc that causes you to get credit for the kill. The thing is, there is a small gap between the debuff fading and the next time it is reapplied. If you kill it during this no-debuff window you will get no credit for the kill. Noticed this on my shadow priest, so no pet to worry about. Very annoying for classes that rely on DOTs, since it can be tricky to manage the damage to kill it during the debuff window. I'm wondering if maybe this is affecting some people that are mistaking it for the targeting effect, or if maybe both of these bugs apply. If both, I'd hate to be a warlock on this quest.

Not sure if this is related to any pet / killing blow issues listed above, but there's one very important aspect of getting credit for the quest:

The totem lightning thingey gives the targeted mob a debuff for a very short period (about 1 or 2 seconds). If the mob dies while having this debuff, you get credit. If the totem is near, but the debuff isn't active on the mob, you will not get credit.

So the trick is to kill the mob right when he has the debuff. Save your Execute or other finishing moves until the mob gets a debuff, and then finish it off quickly.

Well, im a hunter lvl 37.
My strategy was: Just attack with pet and everything else, then when the mob get about 200 HP use Distracting Shot and an Arcane shot to finish him.

In addition to all the above, this quest is about eighty kinds of annoying to do at max level, since you tend to one shot the crocs, and the totem has a 2 minute cooldown, you end up having to equip some holiday weapon (brewfest tankard, say) just so you can get a hit in and kite it back to the totem without killing it.

or anyone wondering until i read this forum i was like how the hell do u do it but u do have to t time it right look at the totem and how long it has left as its spinning right next to your other cast boxes and try and hold off killing it till it starts over again i dont know if that made sense lol and as far as deadmire i couldnt find him till i headed back to turn in this quest and he was right there so right between the qaugmire almost to tabithas farm but he moves alot so i cant give accurate cords im a 41 priest it was easy for me

As a frost-specced mage, I encountered the same issues as a poster above... when the croc was frozen by Frostbite or Frost Nova I did not get credit for the kill.

An additional thing I did not see posted here was that when I used Blink to get closer to the totem, I also did not get credit for the kill.

Using Fireball, Fire Blast, and Scorch exclusive from any freezing or blinking allowed me to get credit for the kill

Now make sure that whenever you kill a croc, the totem is up or you won't get a quest update.

There is a particular problem for hunters, mages and warlocks for this quest. The mob must have you in target when it dies, or it doesn't work. For warlocks this is less of a problem, just summon an imp and tank yourself while dotting. For mages, just make sure the mob is not frost nova'd when you finish it. But for hunters it's a little different especially if you are beastmastery specced and don't have your weaponskill maxed.

3.2.2, and this quest is still bugged. As a warlock, I've tried the following things and gotten credit for none of the kills:

Curse of Agony killing the mob
Shadow Bolt killing the mob
Corruption killing the mob
Wand shot killing the mob.
Pet killing the mob.

I'm giving up on this quest for now.

was able to get credit every single time as long as the debuff that the totem applies to the croc was up when the croc died. the totem has a 3 second debuff it applies to the croc, then approx 2 secs of nothing, then 3 second debuff again. good luck

I've noticed that you only gain credit if the croc is under the debuff from the totem (looks like the Elemental Mastery icon). Unfortunately, this debuff only lasts 2 seconds, with about a 1-second downtime before it's reapplied. If the croc dies in that downtime, no credit.

This might seem a bit odd, but try getting the killing blow to be white damage. I didn't have too much practice with this (mainly because when I got my 10 I did not want to keep killing crocs) but it seems when I finished off one of them with white damage it registered. I can't possibly explain why that would work but it did.

I've done this quest on three characters, and I've noticed that you don't get credit for the crocs unless you have your totem out before entering combat. So if the crocs attack you first, you don't get credit, even if you bring the totem out. Quite annoying.

Kingsize, make sure the crocs have the debuff that the Totem applies,Captured Totem, at the very moment you kill them. It stays on a few seconds, disappears, and is reapplied a few seconds later. It continues like that throughout the fight. Don't know if it is a bug or not, but it sure is annoying. If it's not applied on the croc when you kill it, you will not get credit.

If you're not getting credit, it's because the crocs are dying when the totem buff is actually not applied. See comment by Feralfire here.

If it helps, l think a lot of the problem stems from the fact that theres actually a 'catpured totem' debuff that gets applied. however, it seems to last perhaps 1-2 seconds, then has a 1 second cooldown or so (hard to tell exactly.) What you can do is time your killing blow for most classes till you see the debuff on the croc, then kill. It took me 3-4 crocs to realize that, but l think that may be partly whats interfering with the pet issue.

I did this quest with relatively little effort, and just followed what the quest requested me to do (as a Shaman) and received credit upon every kill.

I was aware that the quest had been pretty whacky in the past, and just recently my brother attempted the quest on his Druid and couldn't get the quest to function. After reading comments and trying these, they didn't seem to work out well.

I noticed that if he aggro'd crocodiles, THEN dropped the totem down on the crocodiles, he would receive credit for the kill regardless of if he already damaged the crocodiles or if the debuff fell off for a few seconds.

I'm almost absolutely certain that the debuff is pretty much irrelevant to gaining credit and you will get 100% credit for just dropping the totem after aggroing rather than pulling crocodiles into the already dropped totem. It's very likely the pet issues are a problem, though I never had to experience it.

The best way I have found to get credit as a hunter, is to put your pet on passive and simple melee the mobs down. You have to watch the debuff the totem puts on the mobs though, if last for about a second and is reapplied every 2 seconds, if you kill the mob when they do not have the buff you don't get credit.

A quick guide for Mages:
Use frostbolt and get them down to around 200 health.
Wait for the debuff to pop up from the totem
Blast them with fireblast.

I recommend putting the totem in a spot near the river with multiple crocodiles.

Thanks for the tips. It was not obvious what to do especially as a Hunter (lvl 40) and I was not getting credit for kills. Finally just dismissed my pet, threw up a totem, and used ranged shots to draw the crocs to me and the totem, then just hack them up as the totem also zaps them (no timing or pet aggro issues then).

An annoying thing about this quest is that the debuff doesn't appear to be on the crocs at all times. I had to time my attacks near perfect to be able to kill them within the time the debuff shows on the target and I ended up killing several times more crocs then should be needed.

Near as I can figure, if the mob dies from thorns-like procs or mirror damage abilities, you do not get credit. I had a lot of trouble with this on my paladin until I turned off retribution aura and seal of command.

Basically, you want to do direct damage to these guys.

This is the first time I have felt the need to comment. This quest is by far the most annoying quest I have done, whilst leveling (and I already have 2x80's).

On my Warlock the only reliable way I found to do this:

1. Put pet on passive and keep them there due to previously mentioned 'pet gets killing blow, no credit comment'
2. DoT up the crocs
3. Cast 'Shoot' until the croc dies.

I tried using drain life, drain soul, turning off VW taunt etc, nothing was reliable.

I spoken with the Game Masters on the Hunter bug. They are aware of this issue.
I've tested them and here's what Hunters have to do for the time being:

Fight in hand-to-hand combat (No Pets Allowed)
Drop the totem
Fight with your mana abilities up to 10% health of your target
At 10% health, only use your weapons. No Mana Allowed

I didn't have the time to read all the comments, but while searching here for druid I didn't find any druid specific solution, so here's what I've discovered:

You must turn off Throns, otherwise it might do the killing blow and you won't get credit.
I'm not sure, but I think DOT's killing blows doesn't count as well, so don't kill using Rake or Rip or any other DOT when the croc is low on HP
The killing blow doesn't have to be white damage (as long as it is not a DOT damage), meaning you can use spells

The quest will only give one credit per kill now, but the totem debuff still has to be on the croc as it dies. Murphy's Law applies itself quite generously during this quest, and expect at least 3+ kills to be wasted because the debuff wasn't active.

Make sure you are in the Quagmire. If you are a hunter, you will have to use all of your melee skills. I recommend aspect of the Viper so that you can regenerate mana, even if you get less in damage aspects. First put your pet on passive. Find your target croc while standing in the water. Plant the totem, and then mark your croc. When he moves in on you, set your immolation trap, then go for Mongoose and Wing clip over and over. Keep your pet entirely out of it because when the pet is used, it seems that the quest requirement is not met. Once the croc has died, make sure to skin it if you are a skinner. But at the very least loot it.
It does not help to have two crocs come at you. I never got more than one target even while battling both. I completed this quest in 12 minutes as a level 44 Draenei Hunter.

On my Prot pally today, I only got credit for about half the crocs I actually killed. I'm not sure if it was because I had ret aura up, or because the croc didn't have the debuff from the totem at the exact moment it died... but whatever was happening, it was rather annoying.

I have no way of expression how $%^&ing much I hate this quest. I've been killing these things for almost an hour now (about fifty crocs) and only three of them have been counted. Blizzard needs to get off their &*!@ing asses and fix the quests they already have before they start worrying about new content.

I appears you need a fresh totem to get credit. You used to be able to cast one totem and just pull a few crocs to it to get credit.

This is a surprisely hard quest to do for a lvl 80. Holy priest as myself, I would kill and kill and so far only 7 have counted. Very poorly made quest imo.

this quest is bugged as hell. if your gear and/or skill is too good (!) and the crocs die too fast, you don't get credit.

I've had multiple crocs dying near the totem, being zapped and all: guess what: NO credit.

lvl44 palladin (so, no, there isn't a pet involved), totem up and zappin'; but I pack The Kang and that baby smashes those pesky crocs in no time.

I had to switch to an inferior weapon to get the credits. the "buff animation" has to run a few times on each croc, or you won't get credit!

fortunately I still had that silly thing Chromatic Sword in my inventory (use it for 2H sword skill only) and that worked just fine.

still, it shouldn't be that way

In order to get credit for the kill make sure that:

The crocolisk has you as its target. Root effects and pets will be the most likely cause of it not targeting you. For roots such as Frostbite and Root, simply move into melee range of the crokolisk. For pet owners, let the pet sit out on this one.
The crocolisk is not under the effect of the totem. The mob will get a debuff about every 3-4 second, and last for 2ish seconds. You will only get credit if the debuff is on the crokolisk when you make the killing blow, make sure you time its death.

This quest sucks. You can only drop a totem once every 1.5 seconds, and you have to kill the croc while the debuff is on. The debuff doesn't happen immediately, it's short, and there's a pause between debuffs. So it has to die at just the right second.

I could only kill one croc per totem, even when there were two crocs right there, and I killed both during the debug. I did not get and sort of 2-for-1 credit, so I guess that they fixed that part of this buggy, asinine quest.

I don't think the croc targeting you is the issue at all on this quest. If you watch the totem de-buff carefully you'll note that the totem pulses every 4 seconds or so, however... the de-buff only lasts 3 seconds. The croc must die while it has the de-buff or you get no credit.

So the only real trick on this is to lower the crocks health to a point you can hit 1 shot kill abilities and wait for the de-buff to refresh and spam you're kill hits. You have 3 seconds to kill it at that point.

This is the most poorly designed quest I've ever had to do.

The pet credit thing is still broken, and the totem for some reason targets only the dead crocolisks near the totem.

I think it's broken. After consulting wowhead to see why it wasn't working with my hunter, I tried it with with my pet on passive 100% of the time and killed it entirely by melee, wing clipping and shooting at close range (keeping croc in range of totem). I still am not getting credit when it dies.

Lame quest. Lots of the stuff in vanilla is pretty neglected these days. Looks like the later posts in this thread say you have to have the timing jut right with totem debuffs and killing the croc, even with melee. I think it's a good one to skip as it's more trouble than it's worth unless it is a pre-quest for something major.

I'd just like to add that this ought to be nominated for one of the most annoying quests in the game.
1) You have to time your kill so that it does not coincide with the buff cd from the totem.
2) The totem has an inexplicable CD of 2 minutes.
3) The totem does nothing useful.
4) It will occasionally continue to target a dead mob, so that you won't get credit for the live ones that it also targets.
5) There is no good place to put the totem so that you can get the mobs grouped near it.
6) If you are trying to acheive Loremaster, often times even a single wand hit will crit and kill the mob before it gets the buff.

I hate this quest.

Could not get the croc to even get a debuff today. It can't be that I'm in the wrong place as it only works in the Quagmire, and I checked four times to make sure I had the right mob. 13 toons and only one has ever been able to finish this quest!

did this quest as a hunter, with my pet dismissed and auto attack melee for the entire kill. still had to kill about 30 crocs to get the full 10 credits.

This Qst is really pain for huntards. O dont know how Grados did it, but:
- when my pet aggroes and doesnt do killing blow - no credit
- when I aggro and my pet does killing blow - no credit
- when I aggro and my pet doesnt do killing blow - still no f**** credit!

So the only thing for me was to dismiss pet and try it to kill myself. BUT!
Sometimes its behaving really strange, because that ray from totem also affects SOME dead crocolisk. Not every dead but only few dead... Dunno why, but it does and if you kill unaffected croco - no credit.

I am glad that Cataclysm is coming...

edit: While I was posting this comment. Croco killed me -.- ...it just sux.

I noted that the totem does a debuff on the croc that last a few seconds and then dissapears for some seconds. The croc must die with the buff on, wich means that you have to time their death exacly.

This quest blows.

Quest worked for me just fine. One second cool down on the totem walk near them drop the totem kill them within a few yards of the totem and get credit for the kills.

JUST COMPLETED - SO IT IS NOT OBSOLETE OR DISABLED. Recommend that you follow the tips to dismiss or disable any pets or fighting companions you have. Did it with my Warlock Alt (so I made my demon passive and kill the crocs by myself while totem was active). Quest by itself is not very rewarding, but did it in combo with others so it was a pick up. Also could kill two crocs at once and got credit, so it was only 10 in a row once I got my demon out of the fight (probably could of used a lesser demon - imp or succi to complete but just flamed them all myself).

This quest is not obsolete; as I completed it today 12/27/2012. If you have a pet you must have aggro when the Croc dies; so turn your pet on passive before the Croc dies to gain aggro.

I was having trouble with this quest as a warrior a couple of months back and came here to seek the solution. Since it said it was obsolete I dropped it and didn't try again with any of my other toons until today. There was another person there and to save them time, I told them it was broke and don't bother, she said she just completed it with no issues at all. I was on my DK so I grabbed it and it worked fine. Give it a go!

Description

During the last Grimtotem attack, I was wounded, but not before I managed to capture a curious totem our enemies were using against us.

It seemed to be emitting raw bolts of energy during the battle, but in all my experiments, I haven't managed to figure out how it works. I'll loan the totem to you if you agree to help me test it.

The watery areas surrounding the farm are home to pesky mottled drywallow crocolisks and drywallow daggermaws. Try fighting the crocolisks near the totem.
