I ran black morass for the first time after accepting this quest. I recieved 2 Essence of Infinity. Could have just been unlucky. I will update this once I run it a few more times.

You can accept this (as well as the quest for the other 2 specializations) once you level your alchemy to 370 or higher.

The Essences drop from Rift Keepers and Rift Lords in the Black Morass instance.

You can`t change specialization, maybe dropping Alchemy and starting over. Took me 2 Black Morass runs, got 5 essences of infinity each run. Imo this is the best specialization, since it procs when doing flasks too. Not the best moneymaker, but saves long farming hours for a raiding guild.

Finished this quest last night. Ran BM twice (didn't finish either run. Damn it's a hard instance. But I digress..) and got 9 essences of infinity on the first run and the tenth one on the second run. After i turned it in i made probably 15 various elixirs and didn't proc the mastery once.

I just completed the master of elixir's quest. And let me tell you, it's definitely worth it. I've had as many as x3 elixirs at once. And if you have a lot of mats, and you're set to make about 20 elixirs, expect to get about 35 out of it. Very nice!

Definitely no longer the case to get this many procs. Out of 20 elixirs, an extra 5 is much more typical.

All mastery has a chance to proc x1 up to x4 of the item.
Proc rate is 20%+ so crazy not to spec into one. Just a matter of asking yourself what you make the most of.

The description says all high level elixirs (meaning outland recipies) but I have also had this proc while making Mongoose Elixirs and also made a bunch of Ogre Strength's but never got a proc off them. So looks like high-level pre-BC recipies still proc along with but not all.

As an important note and often asked question, speccing into a Mastery does not increase your chances of getting a 'Discovery*' in that catergory of alchemy. For example become an elixir master doesn't increase you odds any of discovering* Flask of the Relentless anymore then an transmute master.

*Discoveries as they are called refer to a new dynamic implemented in BC. There are a handfull of recipes (transmute, elixir and potion) that can only be learned by an alchemist discovering them while crafting. There is no item created so discoveries can not be sold or traded. In addition the proc rate of a discovery is random and very low, less then .05% so discovered recipies can not be farmed in theory.

I have made around 40-50 elixirs and I got only 2 times x2 proc... an I bugged or what is happening? Any advices?

All elixirs over 300 like elixir of empowerment, fel strength pot, elixir of major agility, flasks, etc.

I have made over 2500 elixirs and flasks of all kinds with Master of Elixirs active. After having read several wrong posts about master of Elixirs lets get some facts:

- Master of Elixirs is an Alchemy profession specialisation (remember you are stuck with the one you choose) you can learn by completing the quest "Master of Elixirs" given by Lorokeem at Shattrath's Lower City (45.7 , 21.1)

- Master of Elixirs will create 0 - 4 extra elixirs

- It is active for ALL Elixirs and will proc for flasks as well (lucky me had a 5x crit on Flask of Supreme Power)

- The Proc rate seems variable (my total average was 18,71%) As it seems there is a lower proc rate for the low level Elixirs (lvl 5-200 had a 12.85%) with a higher proc rate for the high end elixirs and flasks (27.40%)

- Master of Elixirs only activates "discovery" but does not increase the probability with Elixirs.

- You need to be 325 in Alchemy and at least lvl 68 to obtain the quest (all that say otherwise: add a screenshot or it didn't happen...) To be able to do the quest yourself you surely need to be 345 in Alchemy since that's the level for Elixir of Major Defense.

i think u can abandon and change q before finishing it! i did it 2 times, wasnt sure what is easyer to do elixir or potion q! thing is u need to start q from Honor Hold alchemy trener and then visit trener in Cenarion expedition, after that u can visit all 3 q givers and take only 1q, but when u abandon it others became available again!

I have kept a record of all flasks/elixirs made since I completed this quest and the proc rate for me has been about 20% across the line, irregardless of elixir level or where I have crafted it. This is based on a sample pool of over 1500 consumables made since completing the quest. It is random though, if you keep making stuff, it evens out. I didn't get a single proc off my first 10 flasks made and I had decided it procced for a lower rate then elixirs, the 11th procced 4 extra Supreme Power.....

İ have made a small calculation
İf you are a elixir master
and making elixir of major agility lets say
you grind the mats and buy the vial
20 vials cost you 7,2 gold (if you have enough rep which you will surely have at least in one city)
you are going to make 20 elixir of major agilities with herbs being gathered. So costs you totally 7,2 gold + some time.
when you make the elixirs
1) you might end up with zero procs
2) you might end up with all tries procced
since all making has its own proc chance
if you never proc you have 20 elixirs
if you fully proc you end up with 100 elixirs (all procced x5)
but these statements are out of question of course.
So i have taken the middle
(100+20)/2= 60 elixirs (please read until end :P )
60 elixirs of major agility sells (3each as it has been said in wowhead) so 180gold-vial profit=172,8 gold
if you are xmute master
you have no vial cost so zero taken
you farm mats
and xmute for primal might
you may end up with 1 2 3 4 or 5 mights
so i take again middle. So you have 3 mights
each might sells for 110gold (as it has been said in wowhead)
so farming all mats and xmuting a might gives you 330 gold (if middle calculations are being taken).
But just farming for 20 elixir of major agility mats ends up for 172,8gold (if again middle taken).
So here we go with the important questions;
1) xmute is once a day
2) elixir is nonstop and even includes flasks
3) each try has its own chance to proc
3) ech try has its own chance to discover a new recipe
4) you can make flasks and elixirs from the different herbs (not only teracone and felweed as in the above elixir of major agility)
5) Guilds are making Dungeon runs and so flasks and elixirs are needed much more then Primal Might which are only in demand of item makings
All in all
Elixir mastery overwhelms Xmute mastery unless your server has an extreme unpredicted situation as above statements have listed.
P.S. sure you need to run 1-2-3 dungeons for elixir mastery while xmute master doesnt need a group. But i dont think that will cause people all to go for xmute mastery :)
P.S. prices are taken from wowhead. Maybe differ from server to server. But imo elixir mastery overwhelms xmute.

İ am open to any +s and -s. Just wanted to make a Elixir vs. Xmute note :P Hope it will help you to have an idea. But if you wanna go for xmute or potion sure it is your desicion :D

You need to be lvl 68 and have 325 Alchemy. You will find about 4 Essence per run so it will be 3 or 2 runs. And the total mats needed for the potions is 15x Ancient Lichen, 25x Terocone and 15x Felweed. So there is no reason not to do this quest since you will need to run Caverns of Time anyway.

I did Bm yesterday and couldnt get the 10 items for the quest, i got 6.... basically i forgot about it, i was in the attu for my mage for kara, so after we finishedi decided to 2 man the lords, so i call a riend (hunter) and did it... no joke, just drop the beacon and kill him asap, the dragon will disapear when he is in 10% so burn him!!! hahaha was 4 am and nobody for Bm so did it this way... thinking in 2 man it the daily quest of BM someday.

I picked up the quest from Lauranna, believing I would have a choice of one of three directions. I then picked up the items she wanted but then realized all she had was the Master of Potions. I did NOT complete the quest, but Lorokeem won't talk to me. I'm lvl 70 with 375 Alchemy. Any ideas how to go about picking up Lorokeem's quest?

It appears that after you drop a mastery you also lose your cooldowns. I made a transmute just before I dropped transmutation master and noticed that the cooldown didn't exist any longer. I was able to transmute another primal might about 15 minutes later (without the proc) of course.

First, people like to take the easier path sometimes, fine, if they have the cash, whatever. Also, those things are annoying as all hell to get, the droprate is poo, and have heard of people running CoT 2-4 times to get them all, its a big timesink. So, alternate methods are sometimes smart after all.

I'm glad you told about this alternative.

I know I'll be in for a loong wait before I get to enter Black Morass. And since I know only too well how hard it can be to get the rare lichen that IS there during the raid (because someone else in the party always wants to nina things rather than create a good connection with people who play well, which he'll of course not get after they all see where his motivations run).

So ... even though it's damn expensive alright (I don't even have a fast flying mount yet, and wear only s1 gear, so I can definitely not say I have my bank filled with golden treasures).

For me I guess it's going to be decided not as much by me as by coinsidence.

Of course the cheaper option is to go to Cenarion Refuge and get the potions mastery quest (5 super mana pots, 5 super healing pots, 5 dreamless sleep pots, and a book from the 2nd boss in Botanica) then pay 150g to drop it and go pick up elixir mastery... Will only require one run of Botanica, not even the whole instance and now locks can summon people without flying mounts into the instance, so possible to do at lvl 68.

Saves you the cost of 4 primal mights.

to the previous poster yes u can learn flasks before 65. i have a 51 mage that is maxed alchemy and i just proc'd my first flask. flask of mighty restoration. i wanted the flask of blinding light so i keep making flasks. :) btw i have made approximately 150 total elixirs, draenic wisdom, adapts, fortitude, and 15 wild alchemist pots. plus all the stuff it took to get upto 375. so probably about 300 total pots/elixirs (guestimate)

You aren't stuck with any specialization. You can unlearn Alchemy Specializations by speaking to the trainer you picked the original quest to become your specialization at. Once you pay them to unlearn this you can learn another by speaking to the trainer for the specialization you desire.

Some other professions require that you go to Tanaris to read http://www.wowhead.com/?object=177226 however Alchemy is not one of them.

I specialized in Transmutation first because on my server it was a lot easier to farm the motes for the primals than it was to get a group for The Black Morass.

Getting the Transmute Mastery first then dropping for the 150g is a pretty good option for Alchemists who are:

A) Busy with NR content
B) Can't easily find a group for the Infinity Essences
C) Have easy access to Primal Mights

I had to this Quest too on 80. I haven't even done CoT:Old Hilsbrad.

So I solo'd it. It's pretty easy. I'm a BM-specced Hunter with fresh 80 gear. 13k life. No special buffs or potions. Just bring food and water and you should be set.

Now on to Black Morass...

Black Morass is up to the second Boss soloable too. I got just 2-4 Essences per run, so you probably have to reset the instance a few times.

I didn't kill all the trash before starting the "event". The crocolisks and stalkers won't bother you if you are 80.

Like I said, my gear is crap. Mostly questgreens and a few blues. Nothing epic.

I had potion mastery on my alt since before the potion nerf, just got around to dumping it for elixir mastery. Didn't even have to do this quest, he just gave elixir mastery.

You DO NOT HAVE to do the quest anymore, just go to SPEC master you learned your previous spec. EXAMPLE: if you're potion master, you need to go to Cenarion Refuge in Zangarmarsh and talk to Lauranna Thar'well http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=17909 and choose that you don't want to be potion master anymore, you will need 150g.

After you've done that go to Lorokeem in shattrath's lower city http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=19052 and just ask him to make you an elixir master. No need to do the quest and waste about 180g (that's what i spent on my mats for all 15 elixirs required) on mats, depending on your server.

Right I've just hit the level where I can choose a Mastery. I want to be an Elixir Master to help provide me with Flasks and Elixirs more easily. However, I'm not in the damn mood to do the Black Morass at this time. So I started to look around for a solution to my problem (which is I'm a lazy !@#$).

And there is a way to avoid this a little bit. To start from the beginning, to choose a Mastery you need to do a quest. Normally you get the pre-quest from the trainer in the tower in Honour Hold, Hellfire Peninsula; it sends you to three difference characters (not sure exactly where on everyone, though I believe it is in Telredor, Zangarmarsh, Shattrath, Lower City and Stormspire in Netherstorm. It seems, however, that you do not have to get the quest from Honour Hold first; it's enough you go to the Mastery-NPC:s directly.

Anyway, most people are likely to do the right quest for the right mastery (people wanting Potion Mastery do the Potion Mastery quest, and so on); however, there's another way! With a patch (can't remember which), Blizzard implemented a way to change your mastery, which means that you can do ANY of the quests, then unlearn your mastery and learn the mastery you really wanted! Basically go to the Mastery-trainer whose quest you think is easiest (I think it's Transmutation Mastery, it requires four Primal Mights, which is very cheap if you do them yourself, which is easy since they removed the cooldown). Anyway, go to Stormspire if you choose to do this quest (you can of course do any of them, but the whole point with this is to take the easiest one which requires least effort), talk to Zarevhi in Stormspire (or talk to the Gnome in Honour Hold first, who will give you a follow up. However, if he doesn't, do not worry, you don't have to take his quest first as it seems you can just talk to the Alchemy Master directly, I did).

Anyway, take the quest and turn in the four Primal Mights. He'll give you Transmutation Mastery. Talk to him again and you'll have the option to un-learn your current mastery. Proceed with this and you'll have your Mastery dropped (your Alchemy-profession is not affected by this). Then simply go to the NPC who trains the Mastery you wish to have, and talk to them, and they will give you the Mastery you wanted without forcing you to do their quest as well!

You need, if you choose the Transmutation Mastery, four Primal Might (50g on the AH, but a lot cheaper if you buy all the mats, probably 50g-80g altogether) and a 150g for the fee of un-learning your Mastery.

I just want to make sure you don't lose your recipes when you drop your master. I recently got my potions mastery, but want to drop it for Elixir's. I'm talking to the NPC in Zangermarsh, but she won't let me drop it. she gives me the "are you sure? it's gonna cost you 150gold." I accept and nothing happens.

So, first: will I lose my recipes and have to start over? I've seen some posts (either here or on Potions thread) that say you can re-learn a mastery once you regrind your alchemy.

second: why won't she let me "unlearn" I'm thinking i need to open a help ticket...

I did this yesterday, it took less than an hour - level 70 DK + level 80 Prot War for BM + maybe 30 minutes for Old Hillsbrad.

I got 8/10 in the first run, then reset & had to kill 3 extra rift guys to get the last 2 - didn't make it to the first boss on the second run.

I was expecting it to take longer due to reports of low pop rate. We had absolutely no problems with doing it quickly & efficiently and got the achievement to boot.

I know a lot of people have done the easier one and switched paying 150g to avoid Black Morass but if you have a level 80 friend it doesn't take long.

Hoped they had changed this level requirements, but as of today, I still cant pick it up as lvl66 with 356 alchemy. I could train endgame alchemy already at lvl65, so I think/hope they will change it eventually.

Just an FYI, as of patch 3.1.2 on US realms, the transmutation mastery drop and pick up elixir mastery trick still works. While it's outlined in more detail above, the basic recipe is:

- get 4 primal might off the AH (or transmute them yourself, whatever's cheapest)
- go see This guy and bring 150g.
- Train as a transmutation master
- IMMEDIATELY without moving, drop transmutation mastery
- Fly back to Shattrath and see this guy
- Tell him you want to be an elixir master

Major kudos to HelsRike above for pointing this out. It still works as of the date of this posting so hop on it before Blizzard nerfs it! :)

i dont know what has been changed but i have been a alchy for over 4 months now and normaly on Flasks of the Frost wrym it would make 2x normal and proc for 4x.

However since 24th July 09 i have been procing x8 also

farming the essences of infinity is annoying beacause you have to do escape from durnholde first and then go farm them to black morass. I think it was worth it though because it procs on flasks too which makes it great way to make tons of gold easily.

This is a very long quest. The CoT part is the most annoying. The get to CoT: Black Morass for the quest items you must complete CoT: Escape from Durnholde.
To get to CoT: Escape from Durnholde, you must do the pre-req quest "The Caverns of Time"; which is about 10 minutes of following a stupid NPC.
To get the quest "The Caverns of Time" you must complete the quest "To the Master's Lair."

So that is 3 pre-req quest you most complete in order to to get to Black Morass. Not to mention any flying time/AH time you must spend to get all the quests done.
If you have the gold, do potion master/transmutate master and just switch over for 150 gold. Save yourself A LOT of time, and farm gold later.

ADDITIONAL:
Essence of Infinity does not drop every kill. I've killed 12 and have had 6 drop so far.
You must fly to Blade's Edge Mountain to learn Elixir of Might Defense. Some more wasted time.
You must be honored from your faction in order to purchase Elixir of Major Agility recipe.

Worst. Quest. In. WoW.
Coming from a lvl 60 hunter who did the epic bow quest which took weeks.

There is no more "trick"

There are no more quests involved with changing specializations.

You just pay to unlearn your current one, then go to the NPC trainer for whichever specialty and train it. No quest, no items needed.

I did this as a decently geared 80 Shadow Priest, I did it the first time with my friend a feral druid and I healed him, he quit after the first time though and I only gained 3 shards from it.

I went back in a second time and managed to down the first 2 bosses solo. The portal after the second boss I got my last shard, overall took me less than two runs.

As confirmed it is just 150g to drop the spec, and then free to take a new spec.

I decided to drop Transmute Master for a short time to make flasks. A lot of flasks. Since a patch a while back you get 2 x Flasks which each last 1 hour, and is the result of one non-Proc flask making.
When you proc you now do so in multiples of 2 - you can't get x3, or x5 you can only get x4, x6 etc.

I still have about 10 stacks of Frost Lotus left, and will be turning these into flasks shortly and will update my results when I am done.
I have been making Flask Of The Frostwyrm, Flask Of Endless Rage & Flask Of Pure Mojo Only.
My results so far are something to think about:

Total Flasks Made = 446
Total Additional Flasks Made = 56
Additonal Flasks Made % = 12.56%

Proc Rate - most of the procs were just x4, but did have 1 x8 proc, and a few x6 procs.
So 446 flasks is less than 223 transmutes:

Assuming 223 transmutes and procs of 27 (56/2) the proc rate is only 12.1% and it of course less than that because some were additional procs.

Regarding gold so far, a flask is about 25g gold after AH fees so 56x25g = 1400 additional gold. Not much really. It cost would cost 300g in total to change back to transmute meaning it's even worse value. Unless you are making huge amounts of flasks, potions or transmutes there is probably little point in changing spec.

The chance to get x5 cardinal ruby every 20hours has gotta be the best money spinner. You can literally make 1000g in 10seconds if you get lucky.

So either I made a mistake is the maths, I have been very unlucky with additonal procs, or the 20% proc rate is just wrong. I had more luck when transmuting 25 stacks of diamonds, but still don't feel it was 20% proc rate although I did some x4 and x5 procs.

I found starting with Master of Potions to be easier/more affordable.

1) Go to the Cenarion Refuge in Zangarmarsh. Take the quest for Master of Potions from Lauranna Thar'well. The quest requires you to get 5 Super Mana potions, 5 Super Healing Potions, 5 Major Dreamless Sleep Potions, and the Botanist's Field Guide from High Botanist Freywinn in the Botanica.

2) Go to the Botanica in Netherstorm and kill the second boss. If you have stealth abilities, you can sneak all the way to him.

3) Farm or buy the following herbs:
10 x Felweed (found everywhere)
10 x Netherbloom (found everywhere in Netherstorm)
15 x Dreaming Glory (found everywhere)
5 x Nightmare Vine (found everywhere in Shadowmoon Valley)

Alternatively, you could just buy the potions, but good luck finding them for a decent price.

4)Turn in the quest in Zangarmarsh and then immediately drop Potion Mastery, costing 150g. (If you farm the herbs, this is the only expense you'll incur using this trick.)

5) Pick up Elixir Mastery from Lorokeem in Shattrath.

Did this on my 72 rogue with another 80 rogue. We stealthed to second boss, killed him, and I spent 20 minutes flying around Outlands collecting the herbs I needed for the 5 x Super Mana Potions, 5 x Super Healing Potions, and 5 x Major Dreamless Sleep Potion.

This was much more affordable (only costing 150g for the alchemy respec) than buying 4 primal mights (which were going for 300g a pop on my server). Hope this helps!

Accidentally soloed this partially on Heroic.

I didn't notice until I started getting BoJs. I was quite confused why I was getting them, as I hadn't noticed any difference between my first and second run. Apparently it just decided to switch to heroic for me without asking.

I powerleveled my toon's Alchy, went transmute spec first, made a few transmutes for some gold. Unlearned Transmute Master, went to this NPC in Lower City, learned Elixir Master at no cost, aside from paying 150g to unlearn Transmute, thats all you have to pay (thats if you farm the mats for the Primal Mights, cost varies on each server for the Primal Mights) and save yourself the hassle of doing BC dungeons.

I just completed the Master of Elixirs quest today. I am a level 74 fury warrior, and went in to BM with a 70 Druid healer. Piece of cake. 3 times through and I had all essences.

For the Elixir of major defense you need to make, I farmed the ancient lichen by soloing talonsworn forest rangers in terokkar forest. Of course, I'm an illustrious grand master herbalist also. They drop a ton of lichen.

All in all, not a difficult quest chain, saved some cash too. Actually, I see farming motes for transmute master way more time consuming.

Potion Mastery is definitely the best possible way to go no matter which Alchemic Mastery you decide upon. The mats for the potions are easily gathered and are the cheapest/fastest to acquire compared to the 4 Primal Mights the transmute mastery quest requires. The item which can be found from High Botanist Freywinn in heroic and non-heroic Botanica, is also faster and easier to acquire than the 10 Essence's of Infinity that are needed from Black Morass. While the item for Potion mastery only require one partial dungeon run, the essence's need for elixir mastery may take multiple runs. Th boss the item for potion master drops from is the second boss within the dungeon, and is quick and easy to get to with a random group or solo at level 80+. After turning in the quest it is your choice of what path you actually choose to follow, just speak with the quest giver once more and choose to forget your mastery. It costs 150g, but in comparison to the time/money for Primal Mights for the multiple runs into Black Morass, the 150g is most definitely worth it.

If you want to change your mastery, you'll need to go to your perspective mastery trainer and unlearn it first. Once you've unlearned it, you need to go to the mastery trainer you want and learn the new one. Cost is 150g to unlearn.

You do NOT need to do the mastery quest once you have done one for a different mastery.

Potion Mastery: Lorokeem @ Cenarian Refuge in Zangarmarsh
Elixir Mastery: Lorokeem @ Lower City in Shattrath
Transmutation Mastery: Zarevhi @ Stormspire in Netherstorm

OMG! I got all things to complete this quest, the 'questlog' shows the quest is COMPLETE, but Lorokeem don't receive the completed quest, master of elixirs! Oh my what I do now!

Did BM 2 times (1 normal and 1 heroic) to get the Essence of Infinity. Easy as 85, but really boring.

Primal Mights are 500g+ on my server so wasnt all that keen on doing what people have said to do, had to do it the hard way well the normal way. OMG Questing blows.

This quest is being removed in patch 4.3 and replaced with a version that requires Cataclysm level flasks to complete. Get this done ASAP while it's still easy and cheap!

This quest was marked obsolete by Blizzard and cannot be obtained or completed.

Go to the Black Morass in the Caverns of Time and obtain 10 Essences of Infinity from Rift Lords and Rift Keepers. Bring these along with 5 Elixirs of Major Defense, 5 Elixirs of Mastery and 5 Elixirs of Major Agility to Lorokeem in Shattrath's Lower City.
