Thrall is suicidal.

When you accept the quest he runs through 4 groups of 4 mobs each, usually with a Warder who heals, and a mage who polymorphs.
As he exits the town, the boss comes, with a warden and a standard melee guy. The boss cleanses any magic effects including Polymporph and freezing traps off his adds, which makes it annoying.

This quest is rly easy if you ll rest before every group thral engages. Dont worry about him he can tank whole group of mobs for a while. Just take some rest before every group and focus on casters first and you ll made it.The boss outside is also easy, just focus adds one by one and let thrall tank the big bad guy.

This quest is bugged as at 04/02/07. You can rescue Thrall and return him to Tauren Mill, he goes around kills three mobs, gets to Tabatha and then whamo.. he does nothing.

You say.. GO THRALL!

He just sits. Have logged the problem with Blizz. They say it is a bug. They say they are working on fixing it.

I guess you only have 3 attempts to free Thrall. After the 3rd he doesnt reset and you have to reset the instance.

Make sure you TAKE the quest before someone starts it.

No, not the regular way as with e.g. Jailbreak, but you have to ACCEPT this quest first, and after everyone's done that, someone has to speak with him and start the event.

We did it the "old" way and well, I'm doing my second run now :S

Thrall bugged for us today, while he was in the Barn. We killed all the mobs, he ran back into the Barn and just stood there, did nothing, nobody could even talk to him.

Our group was having a bad night last night. Our druid healer kept getting smacked by the the final wave of dragonkin on the final event. We did so poorly we wiped 2x.

The Epoch Hunter was still there. Thinking we'd kill him for the loot alone--Thrall was good and dead by this time, no ability to try again--we went at him.

Apparently, the Hunter cannot be killed unless Thrall is around to deliver a blow. We got him to 1% then he just wouldn't die. Given the night we had we laughed it off.

When I was doing this quest we wiped twice before getting to Tarren Mill. In the middle of the Epoch Hunter fight, we wiped a third time because of the priest getting smacked. After we ressed we found Taretha dead upstairs in the inn, while Epoch Hunter still flew over Tarren Mill and couldn't be attacked at all. Thrall also was nowhere to be found. So, we thought to go back to Durnholde and try to start the event all over, but we found out everything had respawned already.

I guess when you fail on the Epoch Hunter event, you'll have to do the escort all over again, because of Thrall despawning and Taretha being dead.

Best group to do this:
70 Warrior
70 Holy Priest
70 healer (priest/shammy/druid)
70 Mage (sheep)

sorry unless you are a very well geared rogue it could be hard since sap wont work here.

if everyone in your party has already burned the houses you STILL NEED to burn them otherwise Thrall will give you the quest but not let you escort

Starting the quest
burn the houses, pretty simple its a four pack just kill them watch out for pats. once you have bombed all 5 houses a boss will will spawn near the stairs to go back up. easy fight tank it and spank it. hes got a whirlwind that does quite a bit of damage so back up when he starts that only have tank attack.

after that there is a four pack a pat (that usually comes with the four pack) then a final four pack once u have cleared all of that you can go DOWN (dont go up the stairs) into the cellar. have every1 accept the quest (dont worry he wont start going until you say something like 'lets go, we're ready'

buff up
make sure every1 will not have to leave for the next 1-2.5 hours this is a very intense quest and you cannot have breaks except inbetween parts.
make sure every1 has the BEST water/food even if you dont have a mage get the 7.5k mana/health stuff everyone should have at least 10 of each (unless warrior then 20 food) hand out healthstones if you have a lock as well as a soulstone make sure every1 has some pots also.

During the fights:

* if person with soulstone dies USE IT RIGHT AWAY
* if thrall dies you have to start the whole escort over again so make sure he is ALWAYS above 70% health
* eat/drink RIGHT AFTER each mob he RUNS to the next so you must keep full mana/health even if u have 90% of each DRINK AND EAT!!

Special abilities:

* Wardens-NEED to be killed/sheeped first they will heal about 50+% of any1's health while they are up have a rogue/something that can make sure they dont finish that heal if they heal that can be the difference between clearing and wiping
* Mages- they will sheep you, hit pretty hard
* Veterans-hit pretty hard, not as much need to take down first
* range guys- (im not sure their name but it will have range i think in the name) hit 900-1.5k with their gun be carefull

Part one:
this is walking him out of the castle and just out of durndholde.
there is a 4 pack right outside the building
after that he will run to another 4 pack down the hill
after that another four pack right before the bridge
and finally a four pack on the other side of the bridge.

once u have killed all four you meet your second boss. once again not sure his name i did this a few days ago. but he comes with 1 healer and 1-2 other guys..
this guy also heals himself/his buddies
so put the tank on him keep heals on tank and kill adds
i as a warlock just feared the healer around and doted him till he was dead while the other 2 were killed by my group.
once they are dead make sure u have a rogue/mage/priest or some1 stopping his heals. pretty easy fight.

after you kill him you get a little break take this time to rebuff pass out more food/water/pots/healthstones/soulstones whatever you need
once you are ready time for part 2...

Part 2
once you are ready talk to him and he will get on the mount of the boss u just killed and you'll be off this part is quite easy just 2 mobs while ur on the road riding to tarren mill. if u can try and pull the first mob off the road a little and you will skip the second mob. these mobs are yellow twords us but Thrall will attack them.. after a little bit of riding you will stop at tarren mill to get to part 3...

part 3
pretty much like part 1 a few mobs. just be always drinking/eating in between mobs you will only have to kill 3 mobs, one in the stable one in the church and one in the house. after the house Thrall finds this girl and you have to save her by killing the final boss.. buff up and get ready for the final boss. no need for water but make sure EVERY1 one has bandages/pots

part 4
The final boss. once again dont know his name damn that would be helpfull i'm going to finish this quest again so i'll edit it with bosses names.

okay this guy has 3 or 4 waves of mobs you must kill.. cannot be sheeped but can be feared. these mobs put a weird Debuff on you it gives u +50% you get healed but also +50% damage u take. its a curse so mages should be looking to decurse it. if you dont have a mage just avoid damage while you have it its about a 1 min buff. while you have it and your not being attacked bandage they will heal you +50% which is nice. after these mobs he will come. make sure to conserve your mana/health during these mobs cuz the boss comes DIRECTLY after.

has a debuff he puts on people as far as i know it just decreases your speed by like 90% or something he hits pretty hard so be careful

now i havnt got past this boss we died on him :( but i am pretty sure thats the last part because you save his girl friend haha.

If he dies during the final boss fight with Epoch Hunter he respawned still in Tarren Mill at Taretha for me last night.

Thrall did not respawn when we wiped on the Epoch.

From what I've heard, the pattern is: Thrall will only respawn from 3 deaths. If you wipe again after the third, he won't come back. Not sure that this is true, but my party definitely wiped 3 times, and Thrall did not respawn after the 3rd.

Played this today Me as a Hunter, Druid, Mage, Paladin and Shaman. It went very fast died once and failed in the last event with the dragon boss. In the second try, the others died beside me and thrall, so i activated Cheetah and kited the boss and run in circels untill the other come back and resst. When all was done , i went back to thrall so he took aggro once and did feign died, the boss was on 33k when i kited him.

Anyway for all other who didnt make it, its not so hard as above comments,

This quest is bugged, and a known issue (says the GM). Thrall gets stuck in parts of Taren Mill right before the boss, and you can't continue.

By the way, the dragonkin casters in the waves of mobs before the Epoch fight can be sleeped by a druid, which is handy.

Make sure that if you die after downing Epoch, you do NOT release your spirit until Thrall finishes his QQ rant. The quest won't complete, and you will be forced to start again. I had the unfortunate honor of finding that out.

Make sure *EVERYONE* has accepted the quest before you start the escort. It will not prompt others to accept when the escort starts.

"Jailbreak!" will prompt you (as will Ring of Blood), but not this quest. I'll be running Durnholde for my second time soon!

Well I waited after getting to Thrall thinking that by accepting the quest would trigger Thralls escape....so I left it and left it until some smart ass in the group spoke to him and initiated the quest so I was shit out of luck....apparently you can share the quest, I didn't know at the time so will no doubt have to do it again, grrrr!

I just hope I can pick up the quest where I left off.

We wiped on the last big dragon but thrall killed it, i wanted to see what happened so i didn't release and watched. Sure enough i got a complete but the rest of my group who were running back didn't.

If you are looking to get out of the instance, for whatever reason, you need to go where the Yeti caves are. It is directly north from southshore and west of tarren mills.

me(lvl 69 hunter) and my group(lvl 70 druid(dps), lvl 67 rogue, lvl 70 warrior and a lvl 70 priest) did this quest too and it was too easy.. thrall never came below 70% and in our group nobody came below 50%.. the healer could even dps with us to kill the mobs

and the quest where you need to escort thrall is shareble, i didn't take the quest and some1 in my group shared it with me.

Completed this quest last night with:

70 Prot Warrior
70 BM Hunter
70 Holy Priest
70 Rogue (not sure of spec)
69 Shammy (again, not sure)

It was pretty much a cakewalk. Make sure you let Thrall start each group of mobs, then just have your tank peel aggro. Hopefully, your healer doesn't get targeted by the caster with the nasty shadowbolt.

So I got the last boss dead. Two of my group died before he was killed. The first two guys completed and the Blood Elf ported them out. I tried and nothing. I'm not on my mount, I didn't die. He just tells me that a good thing was done here today and thats it. My log says I completed it. So I have to do this again?

I've just done this instance on my five level 67 shamans right now. A couple of observations:

1. I wiped just after I killed Captain Skarloc, but his two guards were still alive. They then beat Thrall down to 1% health, but couldn't kill him. After I released and ran back in, I got a reputation tick a few seconds after I entered the instance, as if I had just killed something. By the time I had run back to where I left Thrall, he was just finishing off the second of the two guards. It looks like Thrall became unkillable after I downed the boss and wiped.

2. I wiped several times on the final encounter. Each time Thrall reappeared inside the Tarren Mill inn and I just had to talk to Taretha again to restart the encounter.

If you wipe and Thrall dies, he can be found at Taretha in Tarren Mill.

My group ran all the way to durnholde to find out he wasnt there :(

Well it all depends on what part he dies I think.
If he dies before the second boss of Durnholde, he'll respawn in the Jail again.
If he dies between the part where you kill the second boss, and go up into the house where you fight some mobs, he will respawn near the house he was before.
If he dies with the end fight he'll end up respawning in the house with the chick (upstairs).

This quest is still bugged however.
We all wiped but Thrall killed the dragon anyway, however we didn't get a complete message. By the time we came back that Bloof Elf guy was already standing there with a white ? above his head, showing that you haven't completed the quest yet, because we had to talk to Thrall first. But he wasn't nowhere to be found.

Did it last night. The end was preety hard as the tank ( FURY warrior =O) had a mortal strike on him and a hunters pet took some heavy dmg too. WE were wiped 3 times there because our retri pala was disconnected every 5 minutes. Tip for the healer (I was a healer in my group, holy pala), use as less mana as u can when tank is "mortal striked", because u lose mana faast and u dont heal much.

Fair would be to wait for everybody to complete their quest, BUT ONLY complete, then someone take the quest and share it. That was the fair way.

The more SAFE way, when in a pug, make sure you get the quest before some noob start it before you and then not wanting to share the quest, then after the second boss he hearthstones and goes BGs.

Now I have to do it again to get my belt and be able to go to Black Morass. Fix this quest already Blizz!

Just a little warning, this quest is currently bugged and therefore unavailable for Death knights for some reason. The previous quest to set the 5 camps on fire still show up as incomplete even if your party did do it.

I completed this quest many moons ago, and had a mage in my group. As I went to click on the End Quesgiver, the mage threw up a portal to Shatt and instead of clicking on the NPC, I clicked on the portal, taking me out of the instance without completing my quest. Do I have to go back into the instance, and complete it again to turn in the quest? I'm level 80 now and it's been in my log forever. Quite frustrating...

And in case anyone is wondering, easily soloable by an 80 combat rogue in 2 pieces of t7.5 / and 2 pieces of t8. Working on the LM of Kalimdor and this gave me an easy 4 quests. I only have to find 63 more now.

Yeah just to echo the others, absolute cake-walk as a level 80 warrior. I was in naxx 10-man/northrend HC worthy tanking gear (although wasn't in my prot spec, was offspec arms) and I barely broke a sweat. Would love to try it HC though, now building up my rep to by the key of time :-)

Trying to solo this but after accepting the quest Thrall won't move. All he says is "Who are you? Leave me be." Abandoning and getting the quest again doesn't work either. This happen to anybody else?

Tonight my group got Thrall to the fight outside the gate. His horse showed up but he just stood there and didn't get on. We went and wiped and came back in the instance - without resetting - and abandoned the quest - and he was still standing there. We quit after that because it was late we didn't try any more troubleshooting.

So I have the same question as Elfhunter. I went in with 2 friends and I thought I was the one who started the section where Thrall has to run out, but I wasn't. So we got to the end and I left. I then reset the instance and went straight to Thrall because my burn-the-houses part of the quest was complete. I spoke to Thrall and got the next part of the quest where you are supposed to say you're ready. Thrall did nothing. I did /ready even. When I talk to Thrall he said "Who are you? Just leave me be." I don't think that's what's supposed to happen. So I went to the beginning again and abandoned the quest thinking I could get it all again from Erozion. No go. I went back to Thrall and I can get the quest again but he still doesn't go anywhere when I talk to him. Do I need to plant the bombs again?

Soloed as a lvl 80 survival hunter - easy peasy. You'll be fighting a lot of groups of 4 - just wyrven sting 1, ice trap another and burn the others down.

FYI - Also all of these quests count towards Loremaster.

Thrall is being a major &*!@# and not moving... after the 5 fires thing is complete, I got the quest to start the escort and he tells you to speak to him when ready to go but whenever I try he says 'Who are you? Leave me be.' Or something. Anyone know how to fix this? I tried ditching the quest and getting it again but no luck so far.

Don't attempt this quest in a cross-server group! When you speak to Thrall in the dungeon for a second time, he will NOT share the escort quest. Thus, only the person who spoke to him will get credit.

Blizzard needs to fix this.

I cant stress this enough.. Do NOT die/release spirit at the dragon in the end.. boy that screwed me over.. DoT killed me when he had 1k hp left, thrall finished him off, i had to leave instance, reset, and do the whole @#$% over.. FML

Issues with bugs seem to be fixed. I just finished this as a random instance with cross server party members. No one had the quest. We completed it without any problems however, no quest rewards :-(

I GOT IT! If you lose Thrall, leave the dungeon, drop the quest and reset. Re-enter and pick up the bombs again, go back to Durnholde, burn the buildings, kill the Lt. and THEN Thrall will talk to you again and allow the escort *WHEW!*

After losing track of Trall in the barn I dropped the quest which was a mistake. Don't bother picking up the loot on the dead, just stay on Thrall. He runs faster than a cheetah. If he dies he will be at the last place you talked to him, right outside the barn in my case.
I had to go back to the enterence and get more bombs from Erozion to set the barracks on fire again. Thrall will not leave the cell unless all 5 buildings are burning.

sad but true retarded fact...you can use the dungeon finder to enter this instance at lvl 64 (orange) but you are unable to do the quest until you are level 66..me thinks some seriously mentally challenged people work at blizzard.

You get and the npc is grey...needs sorting and now..or remove the damned thing entirely.

Tried to do this quest yesterday on my DK. Quest, and Thrall, seems removed from game.

Edited: My bad. I went to Hillsbrad Foothills instead of the instance in Tanaris. This instance was super-easy soloable on my lvl 80 DK and the reputation gains were fast. Trying to solo these instances to obtain the key to Kharazan for guild runs.

I dont know why this is marked as obsolete just completed this today Patch 5.2 maybe they are refering to the key, anyhow i lost thrall 1st time round and couldnt find him for love nor money after a bit of reasearch finaly found him at 52.77, 41.19 on the right side of the barn in tauren mill behind a tree.
