As of 12/8/06, this quest is bugged. You will be able to follow Khadgar's pet around Shattrath and still learn the lore, but you will not be able to turn the quest in to Khadgar.

It would be pretty stupid to have players decide between two factions, but then make one of them "better".

Or, to quote the standard dummy answer given to anybody who asks what the "best" of anything is: if there were such a thing, then we'd all be choosing it already, there wouldn't be anything else, and you wouldn't have had to ask. Since you did... must not be any such thing.

I found that if you stand behind the NPC, and slightly to his left, it seems to work. I tried accepting and dropping the quest many times and it would not work, however, when I noticed others standing behind the NPC I tried it and it worked (finally).

If you are having trouble, give this a try.

This is a just an orientation quest, explaining the lore and layout of Shattrath, and giving background about the faction choice you're about to make. You pick it up in the center of the city, at the Terrace of Light.

The quest is bugged, but if you cancel and re-accept a few times it should work for you. You'll know it works when Khadgar's servant spawns right next to you ... it's an elemental that looks a lot like a Dreamsicle.

Follow him around for a few minutes, and you're done.

I had to abandon and restart this quest (Feb 12/07) due to getting distracted and losing the guardian the first time around. I can confirm that it is kind of half-bugged. It works if you are standing to the left of Khadgar.

I also had to abandon and restart the quest (2/26/07). When the servant says Khadgar is ready to see you again...DON'T jump down and see him(this is where i screwed up the first time).

Wait and the servant will send another pm saying "Good luck stranger, and welcome to Shattrath City" After that line you will get the quest complete and you will be able to turn in at Khadgar.

To me it would seem that in order for the servant to spawn you _must not stand on the stairs_ but on the actual plateau when you accept the quest. Otherwise, the summoning graphics will show but the servant will not spawn. Abandon the quest and retake it while standing on the plateau.

Basically:

When you accept the quest; the quest-giver should summon an elemental to show you around the city.

If this does not happen, then someone else is doing the quest, and you must abandon the quest and accept it again until an elemental is finally summoned.

Follow the elemental around, it takes around 8 minutes.

Turn in the quest.

At this point (and this is going ahead a bit) it shows that the quest-giver has a new quest for you - and that is choosing whether to become friendly with either Aldor or Scryer. Whichever you choose doesn't matter a huge deal - but look in advance at the gear and recipes available in each faction at their bank.

Quests are available in Shattrah for both Aldor and Scryer, so make sure to read the quests carefully before you accept them to make sure it does not give you Scryar rep if you have chosen Aldor and vice versa.

Adal didnt point my friend to Kadgar, nor did Kadgar give them a quest? wtf blizzard... Any help here would be great, friend is 65 and has not done it yet.

Here is how it works:

When you take the quest, an elemental should be summoned. If it dosen't it is because someone else is doing the quest.

But this dosen't matter! Just take the quest and go to the Northwest upper floor (around 50,43) and wait for the elemental to come and it will complete your quest.

Prereq: A'dal (That glyph next to him) The Prequest to A'dal is a quest recieved by Haggard War Veteran in Lower City. He's a human. He wanders, so no specific location can be given.

What is this quest?: Basically, Khadgar gives you this quest. He summons an elemental (that looks like a Mana-elemental) and you have to follow it around the compound. It explains the lore of Shattrah City, and shows you around the city. There are some that say If you want to take your character up to the Northwest upper floor (around 50,43) and wait for the elemental to come and it will complete your quest. This is unconfirmed by me. Try at your own risk. I enjoy the storyline, so I follow him. After the tour, he leads you back into the middle room. You talk to Khadgar again, who then gives you the choice between Scryers, and Aldorians (i think is the plurall form). As far as I'm concerned, you pick one faction, and that's your faction forever.... Later on, if you change your mind, and want to go with the other faction, I hear it's a Bitch to get faction with the other side.... Im not sure, again, unconfirmed. But yeah, please consider each side carefully before making your choice! Good luck!

Confirmed.

I went afk on the upper level at 50,43. When I came back 10 minutes later, the quest was complete. This is probably the best way to do the quest for your alt, since there is no reason to listen to the whole spiel twice.

If you've leveled in the Outlands, you know about the pain in the arse quest "City of Light" - it's boring, and it takes about 7 or 8 minutes of following an npc around. Lose him around the corner? Sorry, start over. Have to answer the phone/door? Sorry, start over.

Well, I got tired of this quest on my third alt to do it, so I tried something out - you can start the quest, go to the ending spot, and go AFK! Come back in ten minutes and poof, quest completed!

So, for those who don't like to read:

1) Start "City of Light" quest
2) Stand at 50,43 on the top level (west upper entrance, above A'dal) - see screenshot below
3) Go AFK for a beer or a sammich
4) Come back, easy 5.5k xp - no hassle

I've having a problem after this quest. I'm an enchanter, and only in Scryer have the GrandMaster Trainer.
However, I've choosed the Aldor side by mistake!
and now Scryer is unfriendly to me and I can't learn anything!!!

How can I make Scryer netural to me again, so I can go learn the enchant?

I waited well over 10 minutes for the elemental to show... it didn't.

I might have missed it but then if I had to watch my screen for 10 minutes for it to show up I might aswell have follow the thing around shattrath.

I tried again and popped in after 9 minutes. guess what, still no elemental in sight.

Now I followed him around and the only reason I can think of why it didn't work is because I afk after 5 minutes.

For those who are not able to acquire this quest (on my alt I walked up to Khadgar and noticed that, shockingly, he had no quest for me) you have to speak with the Haggard War Veteran, beside the entrance to the Terrace of Light directly across from the Flight Master.

Once you acquire his quest (http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=10210), you will speak with A'dal, then Khadgar will chime in. At this point the quest will become available.

i got this quest and was being shown around but then i suddenly got a lag spike, when i regained control the servent had moved on and i couldnt find him :

Im currently running around trying to find where he has gone, might have to abandon it.

I retried the method of standing at 50,43 for 10 minutes. Three times. The elemental did spawn, but never showed up at the end. I think it's been fixed/nerfed.

You have to follow the guy for the quest to complete.

If you don't want to walk the entire route with the minion, you can place yourself at (50,42). If you've never done this before, it's on the higest plateau inside the terrace of light in shattrath. Go in from the Aldor side and stand between the two blue flaming braziers. It takes a while (~10 min) before the minion shows up so don't think you've missed him. It will say so on the screen when you've completed the quest.

You do NOT have to follow him around. I tried it the way I explained and you only need to show up at the final location (50,42).

Here's the text of what Khadgar's Servant whispers to you:

Shattrah was once the draenei capital of this world. Its name means "dwelling of light."

When the Burning Legion turned the orcs against the draenei, the fiercest battle was fought here. The draenei fought tooth and nail, but in the end the city fell.

The city was left in ruins and darkness... until the Sha'tar arrived.

Let us go into the Lower City. I will warn you that as one of the only safe havens in Outland, Shattrath has attracted droves of refugees from all wars, current and past.

The Sha'tar, or "born from light" are the naaru that came to Outland to fight the demons of the Burning Legion.

They were drawn to the ruins of Shattrath City where a small remnant of the draenei priesthood conducted its rites inside a ruined temple on this very spot.

The priesthood, known as the Aldor, quickly regained its strength as word spread that the naaru had returned and reconstruction soon began. The ruined temple is now used as an infirmary for injured refugees.

It wouldn't be long, however, before the city came under attack once again. This time, the attack came from Illidan's armies. A large regiment of blood elves had been sent by Illidan's ally, Kael'thas Sunstrider, to lay waste to the city.

As the regiment of blood elves crossed this very bridge, the Aldor's exarchs and vindicators lined up to defend the Terrace of Light. But then the unexpected happened.

The blood elves laid down their weapons in front of the city's defenders; their leader, a blood elf elder known as Voren'thal, stormed into the Terrace of Light and demanded to speak to A'dal.

As the naaru approached him, Voren'thal kneeled before him and uttered the following words: "I've seen you in a vision, naaru. My race's only hope for survival lies with you. My followers and I are here to serve you."

The defection of Voren'thal and his followers was the largest loss ever incurred by Kael's forces. And these weren't just any blood elves. Many of the best and brightest amongst Kael's scholars and magisters had been swayed by Voren'thal's influence.

The naaru accepted the defectors, who would be known as the Scryers; their dwelling lies in the platform above. Only those initiated with the Scryers are allowed there.

The Aldor are followers of the Light and forgiveness and redemption are values they understand. However, they found hard to forget the deeds of the blood elves while under Kael's command.

Many of the priesthood had been slain by the same magisters who now vowed to serve the naaru. They were not happy to share the city with their former enemies.

The Aldor's most holy temple and its surrounding dwellings lie on the terrace above. As a holy site, only the initiated are welcome inside.

The attacks against Shattrath continued, but the city did not fall, as you can see. On the contrary, the naaru known as Xi'ri led a successful incursion into Shadowmoon Valley - Illidan's doorstep.

There he continues to wage war on Illidan with the assistance of the Aldor and the Scryers. The two factions have not given up on their old feuds, though.

Such is their animosity that they vie for the honor of being sent to assist the naaru there. Each day, that decision is made by A'dal. The armies gather here to receive A'dal's blessing before heading to Shadowmoon.

Khadgar should be ready to see you again. Just remember that to serve the Sha'tar you will most likely have to ally with the Aldor or the Scyers. And seeking the favor of one group will cause the others' dislike.

I recieved the message "Good luck stranger, and welcome to Shattrath City." hopped down ran to Khadgar and the qest wasnt done! Retrying the quest I watched and after I got that tell there was about a 2-3 second pause before the 'quest complete' appeared.

So dont rush at the end or you will end up wasting another 8 minutes following him.

Standing at 50,43 for 10 minutes (2nd floor, NW corner by Aldor tier, between the two braziers) worked just fine. I didn't stand right in between the braziers but right on the edge of the ramp, which made all the difference.

Here's a story that tells how annoying this quest can be.

A friend of mine wasn't able to finish the quest, because he play with a dial-up, and we know that shattrat can make some nice lag even on an adsl... So this friend, at some point alwasy lagged so bad that he could not follow the elemental and thus failing the quest. He tryed several times, before surrender, giving me account and password and asking (i have an adsl) to do the quest for him.

I don't know if it was a bug or not, but I just got the quest and ran to the finish ledge. The servant was there and the quest completed instantly. 30 secs versus 8-9 minutes. Anyone confirm if this is a bug?

I took the quest, followed the servant _every step of the way_, I mean I was really following it closely all the way to the end and... *drums*... Nothing happened - Quest didn't get completed, servant vanished. Not nice. After that I abandoned the quest and went to aldor bank to check out the faction items and talked to the flask-guy accidentally -> *Boom* "Your now friendly with the Aldors" and I'm like wtf!? Now the scryers won't talk to me but their faction is neutral in my reputation bars.

Gotta retry the quest later and try picking scryers and see what happens... IF the quest gets completed on next try.

*Edit* Now a day later I tried this again - Again I followed the creature around step by step, and this time got it completed. Took "Allegiance With The Scryers" and got Scryers now Neutral ( Grr, 0/3000 ) and Aldors Unfriendly ( 2650/3000 ).

So basicly I could have boosted my aldor (or scryers) rep up by first talking to the flask guy, then doing City of Light followed by Allegiance With The Aldors -quest afterwards, would have been free reputation I presume.

*Edit2* or this might have something to do with the fact that my mage is Draenei. :|

If you play a blood elf or draenei, are you in danger of being attacked by (respectively) Aldor or Scryer NPCs during this quest? Inquiring minds want to know.

Edit: No, you're not. Although you occasionally run across members of each, you're never led directly into Aldor or Scryer territory.

If you lose sight of it for some reason, while it is conducting the tour, you might be able to find it again travelling to the next point.

Have to say this is one of the most enjoyable quests I've had in the game. Having just done it for the first time. I enjoyed the lore, and the witty comments from the passersby as you go around. Though I can imagine it getting tiresome on alts, lol.

I would advise most people NOT to complete this quest before level 64. You will not be able to get to Honored rep using signets/marks until that level, so (unless you need some of the items that require only friendly rep) you will be needlessly locking yourself out of the opposite faction's trainers, bank, and tier (unless you use Arcane Tomes or Fel Armaments, which would be a huge waste of money). I just did this at 60 on an alt, hoping to walk right into the AH and buy my way to Honored, but then I saw that there was a level req on the quest >.<

It seems that if you are running QuestHelper while doing this quest, you will be unable to complete the quest. I went around Shattrath twice, irritated that I couldn't finish it. Disabled QuestHelper on a hunch and did the quest fine, no problems.

This mob appears to despawn when you get a certain distance away from him, so you have to follow him around town. The distance isn't all that far either, maybe 50 yards or so and he will despawn. I tested it by using Mind Vision from the point in where he appears and he despawned before he even gets to the ramp five times straight.

No idea why Shivacode's tip is downrated because it worked fine for me.
As he noted it's an annoying quest if you've done it before.
It was the 7th time for me so I was glad I could complete the quest this way while fixing a cup of coffee :)

To not fail the quest, follow cicerone and hear all the story and at the end just before the escort quest finishes do NOT jump down, stay there a bit until you get the complete quest message.

Else you have jumped down and failed the quest and need to start it again...

Followed the damned blob around and I waited for well over 20 minutes after the last whisper but still didn't receive the objective.

Tried again by waiting near the badge vendor but I guess the stupid elemental despawned. The hell with this quest, by the time i hit 70 I won't be able to care any less about scryers/aldor.

Just tried this method:

and it did not work for me. Also, some other DK did it, and it did not get completed when he was done with his quest."
Guess i have to follow it then.. even if i did it 6 times before.

If you just want to set your hearth in Shattrath you can skip this boring quest. In fact, if you don't choose a side you can move freely between both tiers since you'll remain neutral (I think it may be a little different for Draenei & Blood Elves though).

On my third alt through Shattrath, with Northrend approaching fast, I didn't give a crap about faction and went straight to the Aldor inn (it's closer to Nagrand). I remain neutral with both factions, and can even use the elevator between the two tiers without being booted out of the city.

The guide that spawns when you start the quest will now *despawn* if you run out of range or it walks out of range. It may still work if someone else's guide triggers the quest-complete while you stand in the final location, but with so few people in Shatt anymore, that's not a very reliable method. If you need to do this quest, you will absolutely have to follow the guide for the full tour.

You have to do the http://ptr.wowhead.com/?quest=10211 quest and pick an allegence to Aldor or Scryers. Not sure what level but I'm guessing 58.

3.2.0: We can ride at 100% at level 40. We can fly at 60. We don't have to wait until 77 more than once to fly in Northrend. Isn't it time for change?

This didn't happen for my levelling partner. We were both doing the quest, at slightly different times, and mine was further ahead. But when she joined me to get the quest complete with my servant, she got no credit and i did.

I am not sure the above is entirely accurate.

You actually start the quest from Haggard the War Veteran standing outside the entrance to Adal, who then send you to Adal, then Adal sends you to Khadgar
and the quest becomes active.

Solod this on my prot warrior. Some tips:
1. When you get to the dragon, make sure you keep spell reflect up the second its on cooldown, and always silence if he's about to cast shadowblast.
2. AoE would greatly help when you get to the refugee adds, nothing big, they go down pretty fast.
3. For the last phase, I had to pop last stand and shield wall. After he finishes enraging, he's a piece of cake.

This elemental was a horrible tank, couldn't keep threat at all.

This quest has a pre-quest
Speak with Haggard War Veteran, just outside a'dals room, take teh quest that leads to a'dal, it will lead you to khadgar and the quest city of light

I hate this quest so much. It is worse than an unskipable 8:30 cinematic that is boring as hell. As least with a cinematic you can do someing else in the meantime.

Khadgar's Servant walks at an extremely irritating speed somewhere between run and RP-walk, making the auto-run key useless and your attempts to follow him bursty. Run ahead, wait, run ahead, wait.

If you want to match his pace the only way I found to do it was to ride my ground mount

...backwards.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I believe if you skip this quest and stay neutral with both, you can actually get BOTH of the flight points in SMV. Not that I disagree about a skip option :)

At the start, he is walking throught walls, so it's hard to follow him.

Simple put raid mark on him and follow the mark (the mark is wisible throught walls).

The servant leaves Khadgar, walks to an exit archway, and walks into the stone wall. I cannot follow. This results in losing contact with the servant and, hence, completing the quest. I have not been able to find the servant at the next published location (Lower City?), but some coordinates have changed in Cata so that may be the reason. Guidance would be appreciated. I'm a night elf druid. Thanks ...

Just completed this on my Worgen after patch 4.1

He occasionally walks through walls so I suggest putting a raid target on him. It just makes it a lot easier to find him if he's obscured by a wall. Or if you are lagging, like I was, he'll teleport around a bit.

He will walk around Shattrath, I think some people may think that he is finished the first time he walks up the ramp, and they jump down, but he actually continues to the south bridge, stands there talking for a bit then continues around to the north bridge. Then stands there talking for a bit.

So just make sure you keep following him to the very end of the tour with all his talking, and like I said putting a raid target on him will help you find him if you loose sight of him.

Target the elemental, right click it's portrait, and give it a raid icon. Easier to track if you want to alt tab in and out every 15 seconds.

If you play in windowed mode, on a Mac at least, you can do this quest while watching a movie or something like that.

If you have Safari or some other window open in one corner of your screen, you can start the quest and follow the elemental using right-click-to-move (right-clicking and turning by holding the right mouse button doesn't make WoW your current application). As soon as I started the quest, I clicked on the guy an "set focus" on him, and checked the "track focus target" option, so I could follow him on the minimap. But I selected Khadgar, not his elemental. By the time I realized my mistake, any hope of finding & catching up with the elemental was gone.

I flew around the city looking for him, then just went back to Khadgar & waited. ...I'm pretty sure it's been more than 10 minutes now... quest doesn't say "complete" or "failed", but I think I have to abandon it and re-pick it up. :(

Before I was allowed to do this quest (or even talk to A'dar), I first found a war veteran that offered me a quest entitled, A'dal. After completing, it then lead to this quest. It took awhile to figure out, as it does not list that as a prerequisite. Or I am blind...

Check the dates on the prev. comments you only walk around..a lil boring yes...but not every "quest"...if you choose to call it that...can be a bang a minute...anyway..you need to talk to th haggard war veteran just outside the doorway behind Khadgar FIRST to get the string started, then you can go in the temple and talk to him...then you'll be able to turn in your marks or signets.

This quest would be slightly more bearable if Blizz would give voices to NPCs in quests like this, I actually wanted to know what he was saying but between following him and trying not to lose my mind at his extremely slow pace, I just couldn't find the motivation to read the text. I was hoping it was going to be a cinematic, I actually enjoy those.

This boss is particularly difficult in that Deadly Boss Mods and similar addons don't seem to have any information on it.

Simply put, the only really dangerous thing is the hard enrage, which seems to kill the player at around 20 seconds with a debuff called "Boredom".

However, I found that a Peggle or Bejeweled addon seems to be the solution to this, concentrate your dps on breaking those blocks and have your healers on matching gems while your tanks keep pace with the servant.

I don't understand why so may people are having trouble with this.
It took about 7 minutes for the tour.

He moves at a slow pace but just follow him, stay by his side and don't lose him unless you want to keep doing the same thing over and over again.
When you get back to Terrace of light, just stand there for a moment and he will say "Good luck stranger, and welcome to Shattrath city."

Quest complete, no biggy.

This is the SINGLE. WORST. QUEST. EVER.

The thing moves at a snail's pace, and it stops at several points to tell you pieces of it's story. No matter what, no matter if this is your fist time, or if you've done this on all of your other 9 characters, you have to stick by it's side.

- If you try to skip ahead on it's route, it disappears and you have to repeat the quest from the beginning.
- You stay too far behind... bad luck, repeat the quest.
- Went flying too high when trying to catch up to the thing? Yeah... repeat the quest.
- What do you mean you spent 30 minutes queuing on Dungeon Finder? If you accept, you're going to repeat the quest.
- Battlegrounds? Yup, you guessed it: repeat the quest.
- Zoned out just from pure boredom? repeat the quest.
- Don't want to repeat the quest anymore?... Lol, repeat the quest...

So, how much time did it take me to complete this on my last toon?
I leveled up from 61 to 63 in the meantime, go figure.

This really is a boring and annoying quest, but it has gotten much better.
The bad news first - it takes full eight minutes.
But it is really easy to follow him now; you don't have to worry about being too far away from him as long as you can see him.

I ran this quest many times. Just levelling an alt today, I ran it once again. If it couldn't get any worse, the quest was bugged and Khadgar's Servant was entirely mute. So I couldn't even refresh my memory on the lore.

Just adding a little thing here for people who have pointed out Khadgar's Servant is "mute": Check your chat settings!

In your chat settings, under Other, Creature Messages, ensure that "Whisper" is checked. It's very rare now that creatures use this method of communication so it's easy to miss. It is either disabled by default or turned off by UI mods (such as ElvUI, which sets up its own chat tabs), so it's easy to think he's bugged when it's simply just your chat.

I know the quest is long, but at least now you can hopefully enjoy the lore of it once more and make things pass a little bit faster.

As of patch 6.0.2, this quest is still the same.

I got side tracked and started picking up other quests along the way and lost the pet who gives the tour. After about 30 minutes, I could not track the pet down or have Archmage Khadgar give me a new one. I restarted and went through the 8 minutes 30 seconds and picked up my XP. After finishing this quest, Archmage Khadgar will ask you to side with the Aldor or Scryer.

Patch 6.1 and still the most unbearable 8 minutes and 30 seconds I've ever had to endure in my life. Heck, sitting in an empty room with nothing to do is probably more interesting than this.

Oh, and what makes it worse, you ask? If you lose track of the NPC or wander off away from him, you have to start the quest all over again.

Let that sink in.

This guide will feature how to obtain your Blessed Medallion of Karabor. It is helpful to make your Hearth as Shrine of Two Moons (Horde) or Shrine of Seven Stars (Alliance).

1. A'dal (Video) - Travel to the portal room (upper level of city opposite side from the upper level bank)
• Click the portal to Shattrath.
• You will appear in the center of Shattrath City, at the Terrace of Light. Go outside and speak with Haggard War Veteran at coords 59.8, 41.0. You can also find him wandering the bridges that leave Shattrath City to go to Terokkar Forest.
• Accept the quest, A'dal.
• Go back inside the Terrace of Light (where you ported to), and speak with A'dal at coords 54, 44.
• Turn in this quest and accept City of Light from Archmage Khadgar, standing next to A'dal.

2. City of Light (Video) - Archmage Khadgar will summon Khadgar's Servant. You must follow this Voidwalker-like NPC around Shattrath City for your tour, which takes over eight minutes.
• If you move too far from the Khadgar's Servant, or log off before turning it in, you will have to start this quest over.
• After completing the quest, turn this quest in to Archmage Khadgar located at 54.6, 44.3.
• You will then need to decide which faction to align yourself with.
• If you chose The Aldor, accept and turn in the quest, Allegiance to the Aldor.
• If you chose The Scryers, accept and turn in the quest, Allegiance to the Scryers.
• For purposes of this guide, I will be using the Aldor-faction version -- Fly to Altar of Sha'tar, Shadowmoon Valley (Outlands), and accept the quest, Tablets of Baa'ri from Anchorite Ceyla, inside the building at 62.3, 29.1.

3. Tablets of Baa'ri (Video) - Exit the building and travel south, to the Ruins of Baa'ri in the vicinity of coords 59.7, 34.4.
• On the ground you will see a greenish glowing object called Baa'ri Tablet Fragment.
• After you have picked up 12 Baa'ri Tablet Fragment, travel north, back to Anchorite Ceyla, at coords 62.6, 28.4, and turn the quest in.

4. Oronu the Elder (Video) - Accept the quest, Oronu the Elder, from Anchorite Ceyla.
• Exit the building and fly southwest to coords 57.2, 32.9, where you will find Oronu the Elder.
• Defeat Oronu the Elder and loot Orders From Akama from his corpse.
• Fly northeast, back to coords 62.6, 28.4 and turn the quest in to Anchorite Ceyla.

5. The Ashtongue Corruptors (Video) - Accept the quest, The Ashtongue Corruptors from Anchorite Ceyla.
• Exit the building and fly west to coords 49.8, 23.0.
• Destroy the Corrupt Water Totem, that are surrounding Lakaan. Once this is done, Lakaan will be killable. Defeat Lakaan and loot Lakaan's Medallion Fragment from his corpse.
• Travel south to coords 48.2, 39.4. Destroy the Corrupt Fire Totem, that are surrounding Uylaru. Once this is done, Uylaru will be killable. Defeat Uylaru and loot Uylaru's Medallion Fragment from his corpse.
• Travel south to coords 51.2, 52.8. Destroy the Corrupt Earth Totem, that are surrounding Eykenen. Once this is done, Eykenen will be killable. Defeat Eykenen and loot Eykenen's Medallion Fragment from his corpse.
• Travel southeast to coords 57.0, 73.4. Destroy the Corrupted Air Totem, that are surrounding Haalum. Once this is done, Haalum will be killable. Defeat Haalum and loot Haalum's Medallion Fragment from his corpse.
• Fly north to Anchorite Ceyla, at coords 62.6, 28.4 and turn the quest in.

6. The Warden's Cage (Video) - Accept the quest, The Warden's Cage, from Anchorite Ceyla.
• Exit the building and fly south to coords 57.2, 49.6.
• Go down the stairs that lead underground, and turn the quest in to Sanoru, at the bottom of these stairs.

7. Proof of Allegiance (Video) - Accept Proof of Allegiance from Sanoru.
• Go back up the ramp and look for a Satyr named Zandras. He will be walking around the upper or lower levels of Warden's Cage with two imps.
• After defeating him, go back to Sanoru at coords 57.3, 49.7 to turn the quest in.

8. Akama (Video) - Accept Akama from Sanoru.
• Travel straight down the sewer-like tunnel in front of you, hang a right at coords 57.4, 47.8, and jump in the water. Swim the water passage, and turn in the quest to Akama at coords 58.1, 48.2.

9. Seer Udalo (Video) - Accept the quest Seer Udalo from Akama.
• Jump into the water and swim the water passageway to coords 57.5, 47.8, run along the traverse the above-water passageway to the ramp located at 57.4, 49.7, and go up that ramp aboveground.
• Fly north, either on your mount, or gryphon taxi to Area 52, Netherstorm.
• Travel to The Arcatraz, Tempest Keep. It is a smaller section of the Tempest Keep spaceship, that is the farthest up in the air, and has lightbeams in front of it's instance portal. The coords for The Arcatraz are 74.2, 57.8.
• Enter The Arcatraz and continue through it's walkways until you reach the bosses, Dalliah the Doomsayer and Wrath-Scryer Soccothrates (the second and third boss of the instance).
• Defeat Dalliah the Doomsayer and Wrath-Scryer Soccothrates and travel to a passageway behind you at coords 32.0, 57.4. This passage is unlocked after the defeat of these two dungeon bosses. Go up the stairs in front of you, and continue to the Containment Core.
• Locate a dead Broken at coords 31.8, 25.6 named, Udalo. Interact with his corpse to turn this quest in.

10. A Mysterious Portent (Video) - Interact with Udalo corpse in Arcatraz (Netherstorm) dungeon at coords 31.8, 25.6, and accept the quest A Mysterious Portent.
• You can run out of the instance and fly back to Shadowmoon Valley (Outlands), or just hearth, if your home port is a city with the Shattrath (Outlands) portal.
• If you hearthed, go to the city's portal room and click the portal to Shattrath.
• Once you have arrived on the other side of the portal, fly east and interact with the gryphon flight master, Nutral, at coords 63.8, 41.6. Fly to Shadowmoon Village (Horde) or Wildhammer Stronghold (Alliance).
• Fly east to coords 57.2, 49.6.
• Go down the ramp and turn in the quest to Akama at coords 58.1, 48.2.

11. The Ata'mal Terrace (Video) - Accept the quest The Ata'mal Terrace from Akama.
• Exit the Warden's Cage.
• Fly northeast to coords 71.9, 34.9.
• Defeat the three Shadowmoon Soulstealer that are surrounding a red crystal. Once killed, Shadowlord Deathwail will fly in on a netherdrake.
• Kill him, once he lands and loot the Heart of Fury from the corpse of Shadowlord Deathwail.
• Fly southwest to coords 57.2, 49.6.
• Go down the ramp and turn in the quest to Akama at coords 58.1, 48.2.

12. Akama's Promise (Video) - Accept the quest Akama's Promise from Akama.
• Exit the Warden's Cage.
• Fly to Shattrath City either via a gryphon flight master, or via your flying mount. Speak with and turn in the quest to A'dal at coords 54, 44.

13. The Secret Compromised (Video) - Fly to Coilfang Reservoir (entrance is underwater in Zangarmarsh at coords 50.4, 40.7). Follow the steam tunnel (underwater) to Coilfang Reservoir. After reaching area above water, the entrance to Serpentshrine Cavern will be in front of you (at coords 51.9, 33.0).
• Take the elevator, in front of you, down below (be careful not to jump on it when it is in the process of going down, as you may not survive the fall without spells/player ability measures, such as Slow Fall).
• Once off the elevator, continue straight ahead and go up an elevator in front of you at coords 19.7, 68.5.
• Follow the wooden walkways (see video) to coords 55.0, 39.3.
• Continue to follow this path, defeating Morogrim Tidewalker.
• Follow the path around to coords 48.0, 17.2, where you will find Fathom-Lord Karathress. Defeat him and his minions.
• Once Fathom-Lord Karathress has been killed, Seer Olum will leave his cage at coords 48.0, 18.2. Accept The Secret Compromised from him.
• You can run out of the instance and fly back to Shadowmoon Valley (Outlands), or just hearth, if your home port is a city with the Shattrath (Outlands) portal.
• If you hearthed, go to the city's portal room and click the portal to Shattrath City.
• Once you have arrived on the other side of the portal, fly east and interact with the gryphon flight master, Nutral, at coords 63.8, 41.6. Fly to Shadowmoon Village (Horde) or Wildhammer Stronghold (Alliance).
• Fly east to coords 57.2, 49.6.
• Go down the ramp and turn in the quest to Akama at coords 58.1, 48.2.

14. Ruse of the Ashtongue (Video) - Accept the quest Ruse of the Ashtongue from Akama.
• Exit the Warden's Cage.
• Fly north, either on your mount, or gryphon taxi to Area 52, Netherstorm.
• Travel to The Eye, Tempest Keep. It is the largest section of the Tempest Keep spaceship. The coords for The Eye are 73.7, 63.7.
• Once inside the raid instance, click on the Ashtongue Cowl.
• Travel straight ahead, into the Phoenix Hall, at coords 49.8, 63.4.
• Defeat Al'ar.
• You can run out of the instance and fly back to Shadowmoon Valley (Outlands), or just hearth, if your home port is a city with the Shattrath (Outlands) portal.
• If you hearthed, go to the city's portal room and click the portal to Shattrath.
• Once you have arrived on the other side of the portal, fly east and interact with the gryphon flight master, Nutral, at coords 63.8, 41.6. Fly to Shadowmoon Village (Horde) or Wildhammer Stronghold (Alliance).
• Fly east to coords 57.2, 49.6.
• Go down the ramp and turn in the quest to Akama at coords 58.1, 48.2.

15. An Artifact From the Past (Video) - Accept the quest An Artifact From the Past from Akama.
• Travel to Dalaran, either via one of the Dalaran teleport rings, or by using your Hearthstone, and clicking the Dalaran (Northrend) portal.
• Travel to a building, in Dalaran, whose entrance is located at 32.0, 48.6. Go up the stairs and to your left there is a portal labeled: 'Dalaran Portal to Caverns of Time.' Click this Portal to be transported.
• At the Caverns of Time, head into the tunnel in front of you, underground to coords 48.3, 24.5 and enter the raid instance: Hyjal Summit / Battle for Mount Hyjal.
• Enter the instance portal located to your left, which is not gated (see video).
• Speak with Lady Jaina Proudmoore and select, "My companions and I are with you, Lady Proudmore." Starting this will activate the first waves of mobs to spew forth.
• Go to coords 7.3, 70.2 and wait for the mobs to reach you. Don't allow any of the 10 waves of mobs to pass you and enter the Alliance Base.
• After defeating the 10 waves of trash, Rage Winterchill will approach. Defeat Rage Winterchill and loot the Time-Phased Phylactery, from the corpse.
• Unfortunately, you can't run out of the instance. You will need to use one of your pieces of teleport gear or a Hearthstone. Go to the city's portal room and click the portal to Shattrath.
• Once you have arrived on the other side of the portal, fly east and interact with the gryphon flight master, Nutral, at coords 63.8, 41.6. Fly to Shadowmoon Village (Horde) or Wildhammer Stronghold (Alliance).
• Fly east to coords 57.2, 49.6.
• Go down the ramp and turn in the quest to Akama at coords 58.1, 48.2.

16. The Hostage Soul (Video) - Accept the quest The Hostage Soul from Akama.
• Exit the Warden's Cage.
• Fly to Shattrath City either via a gryphon flight master, or via your flying mount. Speak with and turn in the quest to A'dal at coords 54, 44.

17. Entry Into the Black Temple (Video) - Accept the quest Entry Into the Black Temple from A'dal.
• Interact with the gryphon flight master, Nutral, at coords 63.8, 41.6. Fly to Shadowmoon Village (Horde) or Wildhammer Stronghold (Alliance).
• Fly east to the Black Temple, at coords 65.3, 44.0, and turn the quest in to Xi'ri.

18. A Distraction for Akama (Video) - Accept the quest, A Distraction for Akama, from Xi'ri.
• Speak to Xi'ri and select, "I am ready to join your forces in battle, Xi'ri."
• Wait approximately 30 seconds before Xi'ri begins channeling Light of the Naaru.
• It will take about another 20 seconds for the channeling to finish, and for you to receive the buff Light of the Naaru.
• Attack the Illidari mobs that spawn in front of you, as you race toward the Black Temple. Doing this will attract the attention of Vagath.
• Kill Vagath.
• After his defeat, Akama will enter the Black Temple via the sewer entrance. Once he enters, travel back to Xi'ri at coords 65.3, 44.0.

19. Seek Out the Ashtongue (Video) - Accept the quest, Seek Out the Ashtongue, from Xi'ri.
• Enter the Black Temple, through the same sewer entrance that Akama had, at coords 71.0, 46.7.
• Make your way through the sewer entrance, inside the Black Temple, defeating High Warlord Naj'entus and Supremus (see video).
• After entering the doors past Supremus, continue around and up the stairs in front of you. DO NOT DEFEAT ANY BOSSES PAST Supremus YET!
• Speak to Seer Kanai, at coords 62.0, 50.6, and turn in the quest.

20. Redemption of the Ashtongue (Video) - Accept the quest, Redemption of the Ashtongue, from Seer Kanai.
• Travel to coords 40.9, 68.9 and enter the room.
• Clear the trash in this room.
• Speak with a stealthed Akama at coords 40.7, 74.0, and select "I'm with you, Akama."
• Akama will begin channeling a spell at the Shade of Akama. This will make the Ashtongue Sorcerer, that surround the Shade of Akama killable.
• After killing the Ashtongue Sorcerer, the Shade of Akama will move closer to Akama and begin to fight each other. Help out your buddy, Akama, and slay the Shade of Akama.
• Exit the room and return to Seer Kanai, at coords 62.0, 50.6, and turn in the quest.

21. The Fall of the Betrayer (Video) - Accept the quest, The Fall of the Betrayer, from Seer Kanai.
• Progress through the raid, as shown in the video link above.
• After you defeat Illidan Stormrage, you will receive a notification of the quest completion.
• Travel back down to Seer Kanai, at coords 62.0, 50.6 in the Black Temple, and turn the quest in.
• He will award you with the Blessed Medallion of Karabor, which will allow you to equip this neck piece, and teleport to the entrance of Black Temple.

Screw this effing quest. On a high population server, that fat amorphous, opalescent bastard is everywhere and you don't know which one to follow. Took me like 15 tries to complete the quest.

Patch fixed it to where servant is now unique to each player. i .e- you can target your servant and make sure you are following the correct one.

FYI, the epic story of how this quest ripped apart a best friendship is almost exactly the same length as the quest. Let it play in the background or toss it up on your 2nd display. Just don't forgot to keep up with Khadgar's Servant and stay put next to him at the end and don't just down until you see the "Quest Complete" pop up thing. About 20 seconds or so after this video finishes.

So I've just done this quest and as per appearent tradition, I have to spew some good ol' "wtf blizz" barf all over it.

Being able to cancel out the tour would be an amazing option, but let's be honest that wouldn't be very epic.

If the quest was set up in a way that you would automatically follow the servant around, that would only cost you some time and would be fine.

Being able to set follow on the servant would've been equally amazing.

Or at the VERY least have the servant move at a pace that either fits your walk or your run. That's the real issue here is that you can't walk follow him around cause he moves to fast, you can't run, cause then you move to fast.

A bit of a warning. Make sure you turn off any auto turn in add-ons for at the end of the long tour you have to pick a side. The add on will pick the first one (which is Aldor).

Today, on probably my sixth or seventh time doing this quest, I picked it up from a Haggard War Veteran walking on one of the bridges spanning the Lower City. That was a first.

I set focus to Khadgar's Servant and threw a target marker icon on him. My next step was to see how far I could wonder away before it failed.

Then I lost my nerve and followed him like the sheep I am. I couldn't bear starting over.

• Accept City of Light from Archmage Khadgar, in Shattrath City
at coords 54.6, 44.3.
• Archmage Khadgar will summon Khadgar's Servant. You must follow this Voidwalker-like NPC around Shattrath City for your tour, which takes over eight minutes.
• If you move too far from the Khadgar's Servant, or log off before completing the tour, you will have to start this quest over.
• After completing the quest, turn this quest in to Archmage Khadgar located at 54.6, 44.3.
• You will next need to decide which faction to align yourself with.

If you don't get quest credit, stick CLOSE to the servant and set a mark on it. The whole tour takes about 5 min and the servant will finish on the top circle / level of the main structure in Shattrath. He will remain stationary for about 20-30 sec without doing anything, nor saying anything (see video link below). Don't run away from him at this point, that's the mistake I did! Stay close until he despawns, this will trigger the quest as completed.

Reason why it can fail:

Can't complete while in a raid
The Servant will despawn if you are too far away from him
The Servant might despawn for pet classes or if you have a non combat pet -> Despawn your own pets
The Servant might despawn if you are mounted, especially when flying
As mentioned wait at the end for 20-30sec, don't leave the servant!

Note: It helps to set a mark on your own servant, so you don't lose track of it, if someone else is doing the quest at the same time.
