Seems odd to a make the decision based on what they say if the reward is in reality between 2 mounts.

Choosing Nemea (Larions) enables you to buy from her Larion Treats, which in turn can be used to make the tamed Larion follow you around as a pet for 10 minutes.
There is also currently no limit on the amount of Larion that can follow you which is kinda amazing.

I would guess that choosing the other side -> Pelodis (Phalynx), will enable you to borrow 'your' Phalynx as you could during the quest.
But it would be nice if someone who went this route could confirm both this idea and if they're unable to buy Larion Treats.

A popup gives you a warning that you cannot change your choice on this character.
Unfortunately, there's nothing telling you what the choice actually means in the game.

Probably we'll be able to get these as a mount later on through the next patches, like the Child of Torcali mount... at least I hope so :D

The choice only affects characters in the Kyrian covenant

I chose Phalynx on one character and Larion on another. Both characters can now have Gatamatos and Lentios as guardians simultaneously, however:

Gatamatos is limited to the Forgefire Outpost, Namea's Retreat, The Golden Pasture & Greatwing Roost areas, but has no time limit
Lentios requires Larion Treats and can be taken all over Bastion, but only lasts for 10 minutes

This choice has absolutely nothing to do with mounts. If you want any of the Kyrian specific mounts you just need to be in the Kyrian covenant and progress accordingly

NOTE FOR KYRIAN COVENANT CHARACTERS:
If you chose Phalynx you will have Pelodis as an companion. If you side with Larion you will have Nemea as a companion. Both attack the furthest enemy and you cannot have both on the same character. The only difference I can see is that Pelodis does Holy damage and Nemea does Physical damage. I cannot say which one has a clear upside over the other since ideal damage type is dependent on the adventures available

I chose the Larion on my Horde main, but I'll choose Phalynx on my Alliance main. This will hopefully enable me to see both consequences of this choice.

I believe that choose option is actually for companion at Renown 4. I was looking at renown rewards and noticed at level 4 that after completing Pride or Unit questline I will "see" companion that joins me. After I chose Nemea, she appeared as companion reward for Renown 4.

So many quests just to have to make an irreversible decision in the end while you don't even know what the pros and cons are or what it is even good for...

I searched for details on this, could not find any helpful information and ended logging out because I did not want to make a decision I regret later.

I went for the Phalynx - I'm not sure if I'll chose Kyrian in the end so this might be the only chance to get the Phalynx model mount down the line :D

There's already a model for a Larian available for anyone when you hit 60.

So the result of the boringly and pointlessly much repeated contents of the replies above it would seem it does not matter sub-faction you choose
the only rather insignificant difference anyone seems to have discerned is that the choice faction will predetermine which of two mounts you may earn access to.
How pointlessly sad is that?

As I believe it to be the fastest mount I have and possibly in the game why would I want to use anything other than the headless horseman's mount which serves as both a ground and flying mount and only takes up one spot on my action bars I have not bothered to take this quest..

I find it strange that people seem to choose them based on "what will I get out of that?". This is a RPG. Of course you choose the one that best fits the background and liking of your character. What else? My orc girl of course went for the cuddly lionfox with wings. It looks a bit like "Ripper", her frostwolf companion that died in battle against the Burning Legion. She is still sad, but burying her face in the furry depth of a larions fur takes the pain away bit by bit. Why would she choose a metal beast with no passion in it's heart, just following orders, not thinking for itself? How can you ever forge a bond without it? Obedience is not loyalty.

So, yeah, approach this as a RPG not like a business transaction. That is, if you can still remember what it takes to roleplay.

Even if it's only a hint of possibility of a flying mount, clearly the choice is Larion.

The only way Phalynx would be in any way superior is if five of them came together to form a super-robot-cat.

Ok so confirmed, the choice you make decides which companion you'll get when you hit Renown 4. I hadn't picked one and the Renown 4 reward said i had to finish this quest. Once I finished the quest and chose Phalynx my companion will now be Pelodis.

Your choice decides which one of them you get as a companion if you are Kyrian.

If this is not coming up for you may have to go to nema and do pre quests (i was missing All antural chews) which I couldnt find anywhere was needed

I wanted to note that once you complete this quest as Kyrian you will go back to Elysian Hold and whichever one you chose you will be able to have as a companion for your mission table. Pelodis or Nemea

You are picking between which adventurer will join your 'mission table' once you reach "Renown 4".

You can see their differences with these links: Pelodis or Nemea -- i.e. their spell names are different, but do the same thing in the auto-battles themselves.

Can confirm that at Renown 4, your choice in this quest will give you either Nemea or or the phalynx guy as a companion for missions.

Dialogues of each choice

Larion, after choosing but before hand-in
Nemea: "I knew that you felt the pull of kinship, . Andira and the other larions shall be pleased for you to return."
Pelodis: Nothing

Larion, after hand-in
Pelodis: "Unfortunate."
Nemea: "The pride will be overjoyed to have you, . Return soon, there is plenty more bonding to be done."

Phalynx, after choosing but before hand-in
Pelodis: "I knew you were a being of reason, "
Nemea: Nothing

Phalynx, after hand-in
Nemea: "Enjoy your souless soldiers."
Pelodis: "Wondrous! I am elated that you see the superiority of a constructed partner. I urge you to return to lend a capable hand soon."

There doesn't seem to be any RP flavour when speaking to them afterwards. This is personally what I was looking for, as I didn't want any lasting friction or disappointment on the unchosen side.

How would you even know to do this 17 quest chain to get a follower? Nothing points you here. Other covenants did not have to do this...sigh. If I hadn't gotten one at this point from Night Fae, I would not even know I was missing something.

Quest Name:	Start and description
1 Success Without Soul	Quest take from Koros in The Eternal Hall Bastion 43 41. You need to fly to Pelodis 54 41
2 Phalynx Malfunction	You need to find Gatamatos He is located on 54 43 and return him to 55 41. You can do this quest together with Resource Drain.
3 Resource Drain	Use Anima Drainer on 5 Gilded Cloudstrider. Do it before fight.
4 We Can Rebuild Him	"First press on Gatamatos 55 41 then go to 54 40. To rebuild you will need: - 3 Forgefire Engineer - 1 Anima Barrel - 5 Reinforced Armor All you can find next to forge. Then you need do 5 Reinforced Armor by pressing on them. then speak with Pelodis"
5 Combat Drills	First press on Gatamatos 55 41 then go to Hall of Beasts 55 42 enterence. Then kill 8 mobs inside. Do this quest together with Laser Location and Superior Programming
6 Laser Location	First press on Gatamatos 55 41 then go to Hall of Beasts 55 42 enterence. Then use spell on Extra Bar when close to gem ( small on ground inside cave ) Gatamatos will get Training Gem you need 6 of them.
7 Superior Programming	Go to Hall of Beasts 55 42 enterence and slay Leonid after enter on left side.
8 Tactical Formation	In main was 1 mid 2 mid 3 back one. then put Gatamatos back to his place.
9 Antiquated Methodology	Go to Nemea 57 39
10 Part of the Pride	Press on 5 Tamed Larion they are around.
11 All Natural Chews	Get 5 Cloudstrider Antler by killing Gilded Cloudstrider. This quest You can do together with Larion at Large
12 Larion at Large	Find Andira and follow Her until able to press on is after return to Nemea 57 39.
13 With Lance and Larion	Slay 5 Cloudfeather Greatwing but Before attack use on them Nemea's Javelin. You can do this quest together with Providing for the Pack.
14 Providing for the Pack	Get 10 Cloudfeather Essence is drop from Juvenile Cloudfeather.
15 On Larion Wings	Jump on Andira and fly thru 10 blue circles.
16 Pride or Unit	Go to 55 39 and pick between Pelodis or Nemea Storyline is finish but After that You can Fly to The Eternal Hall Bastion 43 41 and get new adwenturer ( is depend what did You pick ).

There isn't one good soul including wowhead putting the mounts' handlers so we can search our list to eliminate the choice we made on our next character.
I don't remember if I picked larion or phalynx on my main, and now I have to blindly choose. I typed questline's name, I typed larion and phalynx in the mount list
and nothing explicitly tells that I got one of those mounts. I can't even tell from wowhead, if they put the actual rewards or the mounts' list names, it would be great, but nooo.
Larion or phalynx. Even blizzard failed at making that clear.

If you want to minmax this choice, choose Pelodis (Phalynx). The only difference is the Kyrian mission table follower you receive and Pelodis is better than Nemea. After choosing Pelodis, you can still buy Larion treats from Nemea, tame Larion with them and do the Larion world quest. And a mount was never released for this choice.

The followers have the same autohits and healthpoints. The difference is the ability. Pelodis does 99 damage with 3 rounds cooldown. This is 99/4=24.75 damage per round. Nemea does 66 damage with 2 rounds cooldown. This is 66/3=22 damage per round. Nemea is only better for battles that last exactly 4 rounds because in that case she can use her ability twice while Pelodis has to wait one more turn and his higher damage per round isn't better than that yet or if Pelodis would overdamage hard. Pelodis also has a better maximum synergy with Cromas and in the cases that combo doesn't work you can simply use the similar Apolon or Hermestes with Cromas.
