For those without coordinates, pick up the chains southeast of the map icon for the world quest. There's a tiny shack with a carriage and Collector Marissa.

The "Ash Ghouls" you're killing for the quest are actually the Blistered Inquisitor mobs.

There are also far more than 8 Neglected Souls, so don't worry about getting specific ones. You return the souls to the carriage.

For each soul you collect, you get the Shackled Soul stacking debuff that increases damage taken by 20% per soul. At 8 souls, that's a 160% damage increase, so be careful.

If you can't turn in the souls at:
/way 24,3, 38,6

Then, get out of combat, mount up, go get another soul (by right clicking it), run back slowly to turn in point at:
/way 24,3, 38,6

If the opposing faction is in the middle of a 'scrum at the door' near entry of graveyard, flank to the left (or right) to snake a handful of souls.

You can a soul from the same place that you picked up a previous one after it respawns and you can mount up after collecting them too.

If you die, you lose your Neglected Souls and as of this writing the turn in's to Collector Marissa does not always work -- To get around this you can wander away from the NPC and come back until you get credit. When clicking on Neglected Souls it's also not shared, so if one person gets it (any faction), it despawns.

Hi all

On This WQ You need to do 2 things, but at first pick up Iron Chains 24 38 then:

1. Slay 12 mobs
2. Bring to The Accuser 8 Neglected Soul. You just need to press on them. You can bring all 8 in one time but be care 1 soul is giving Shackled Soul and is stack up xsouls.

Fun fact, if you use a immune ability like Divine Shield or Ice Block, you will lose the stack of Shackled Soul. Don't use those abilities if you want to keep your souls

Souls that I collected were accepted only when I brought all 8 of them at the same time,to the same spot where you pick up the chain.

Skip this one altogether. Blizz doesn't test these kinds of quests with real-world results. Not only do you get a debuff for collecting the souls that causes massive damage increases (which stacks higher with each one you get), but the mobs spawn so fast that you'll constantly be fighting instead of collecting. Coupled with the fact that you'll get that one ahole following you around stealing your souls while you're fighting AND when (not if) you die, you lose EVERYTHING. This is just poor design and probably only the first of many to come.

Just skip it. I couldn't even find chains inside or outside the crypt. Unfortunately the theme of annoying world quests with no explanation is prevalent in Shadowlands.

This is one that doesn't give you a lot of clues and seemed to be bugged. But having done it, this might help

Because it is a wq you get it as soon as you get near the area, so unlike the leveling quest with the ! marker, you're not where you should be to get the chains from the questgiver. She is at /way 24 38 and the chains are beside her, you don't have to go find them. Once you pick them up, the lost souls will start to glow.

You can turn the lost souls in in bunches, it doesn't seem that way because it is quite laggy for her to react to you. Stand there by her for a few seconds and they will eventually register. There's an easy 4 pick up going up the path to the left heading up the hill, grab 4 and go back to her. They had respawned by the time I went back. Mounting doesn't lose them.

Then all you need to kill are the leaping ghouls. Good luck, it's not as bad as it seems

My experience with the bug, and it's resolution:

Did all 12 kills, had 8 shackled, but somehow the debuff fell off and the turn-in circle was not on the minimap, so the souls could not be turned in even when I stood on the chains for a bit. All 8 were still following me around though, so the game somehow knew about them and wouldn't let me try to collect any more. Tried an Ice Block just to see if that reset anything (and no, I hadn't done one before, so that's not why the debuff fell off) but that changed nothing. There was a Bleakwood Chest up in Dominance Keep in the far northwest of the zone, so I went to get that and the shackled souls came with me all the way.

Hearthed back to Sinfall, and that cleared the souls. Went back to The Scorched Crypt where my progress on 12/12 killing was still registered, but 0/8 souls. Collected the 8 souls again, turned them in, and the quest completed.

If you are a Druid , do not attempt to turn them in while in travel form. It can bug the WQ. Make sure to unshift before you get to the soul turn in.

Grab the iron chains

Only target ghouls near souls, to avoid overlap and overkilling.
Kill ghouls in packs and aoe down to save time.

Keep in mind that each tethered soul will increase your damage taken by 20%.
So head back to turn-in in two waves if you want to be safe. First four, then last four.

Venthyr, don't use door of shadows or it will bug you. Take the bat nearby the turn in guy to quickly get out of the area and come back. You will have to get the souls again...

I had 8 souls following me but was unable to turn them in. Only thing that worked was logging out and back in. Kept my progress on the other two objectives.

Hi, had the same prob about turning in the Neglected Souls, however when I finally decided to look at Wowhead comments, I was just standing in the turn in zone with more souls than I needed, and it got completed - suggest wait - if the turn-in zone phases out, run off and grab another soul (even if over requirement), the Collector and his area will light up again and just stand a wait for a bit.

Beware this quest. For each Neglected Soul you have chained to you you get a stack of Shackled Soul added to you. Until you turn the Shackled souls in.

The "designers" at Blizz decided to add this in. I naturally try and just grab as many Shackled Souls as I can, because I want these quests to be over as quickly as possible, which obviously Blizz doesn't want. And I noticed I was taking a ton of damage for some reason and then saw the debuff.

Iceblock removed the debuff the souls give you, and without the debuff you can't turn quest in. Had to re-log and re-collect souls and ensure I had the debuff.

One of the buggiest quests ever created in this game.
On separate occasions, it registered less souls brought in .. today i brought 8, registered 0 and couldn't collect more until I relogged.
Unless it has meaningful rewards for you .. skip this.

In my experience I have had the least amount of issues with this quest bugging by walking the Neglected Souls to the turn in. Mounting or using some other means of movement increase coincide with the quest bugging (again just speaking from my experience).

If the quest does bug and you can't turn in the souls and can't pick up anymore souls you can simply relog to fix it. You will have to collect the souls again after relogging though.

End of story, i will never do this world quest again! This is so bugged! Soulshape, Blink, and any other travel form does so you can't hand in the Souls. Did try make a relog, reload and restart game. But it will still bug you out!

Mid March now and first encounter of this bug on Mage. Invisibility broke it I think. Can't turn in, can't get a new chain, can't collect new souls, but it still shows I have the souls but the debuff is gone?

The quest bugged for me after I died during it. I gathered 8 souls a few more times after reload and relogging a few times. Submitted a bug report and requested that they complete the quest and send me the anima I earned. This is not a bad quest, it's just bugged. First time bugging for me.

Most bugged world quest in the game. I collect 8 souls, run to the collector on foot and still incomplete and I can't get more souls.

Some tips:

Stay well inside the marked quest area. If you turn to one side or the other to get around some blocking ground clutter, and accidentally clip outside of the quest area, the shackled soul disappears, the credit disappears, and about 94% of the fun disappears.
Do not fight on the road, or even stay on it for very long if the zone population is high. Players passing through tend to accumulate a large following of ash ghouls, and even though the ghouls are chasing another player, they will still get into combat with you when they get near. (It's not typical behavior for PVE mobs, but hey, the zone is supposed to be demented and horrible, so it fits.)
Try to avoid combat while leading a shackled soul back. The debuff makes you take more damage, and occasionally the shackles just apparently break.

As off today, seems they either improved or fixed the quest. However, DO NOT leave the questing area or you will lose your souls collected.

Basically if you get too far ahead of your chains you 'snap' them by causing your buff to fall off. Even though the visible chains don't snap it's the buff that counts as your 'chain'. Dumb and confusing.

Yeah... so OK.. this quest is still bugged. What I did was just queue for a dungeon, ran the dungeon and afterwards the souls reset for me and I was able to re-collect them and do the turn-in. Sad this quest is so buggy still but at least there's a work around.

Still bugged... Found that if you are in combat when you try to turn in lost souls it will bug. To fix get out of combat, grab one more lost soul, then turn in again making sure your not in combat as you pass threw the gate.
