Thalyssra is in the cave at Shal'aran Suramar 35.0, 47.6. Near windrider. Or you can use Teleport: Ruins of Elune'eth on the top to get down

You don't need to be disguised as Ly'leth still, you disguise yourself as a nightborn with the extra action button's Masquerade spell disguise. If you don't see the extra action button in the lower middle of your screen, you can "click" it anyway by typing:
/click ExtraActionButton1
You may want to create that as a macro, and bind a key to it, since you'll want to cast the disguise quite a bit in future Suromar quests.

If Vanthir doesn't have a dialogue icon, click the extra action button to activate your disguise.

Quest is bugged. NPC "First Arcanist Thalyssra" is not phased-in where she should be. Any suggestions?

Just a note: after dying a 'few times' my way to him I found I couldn't turn in the quest. I used Aaahead's tip above to the reinstall the mask by pasting this into chat and could then turn in the quest: /click ExtraActionButton1.

I watched the YouTube video, and the turn in character is just not appearing for me. Anyone else having this issue?

If First Arcanist Thalyssra has the option to turn in this quest when you first click on her, but you get the error "you can't do that now" when attempting to turn it in, give her Ancient Mana first (complete Feed Thalyssra). Then you can turn in this quest.

Also, FYI, if you have to go out collecting Ancient Mana for that, stock up to 300. You need some for the very next quest in the chain.

50 (Feed Thalyssra)

- 50 (Half-Full Bottle of Arcwine reward when you turn in First Contact)

If you find that you can not turn the quest in and she still has the blue ? quest as well, do the blue one first and then you will be able to complete the yellow ?.

For those who can't find and see Vanthir or even /target Vanthir to turn in the quest in Shal'aran,You'll won't see him in the same place as you can see in those added videos.You need to enter and go downstairs,he will have a blue mark above his head,you will need to spend some 50 ancient mana to make that quest to appear.After that he become as inn and opens next quest called Arcane Communion

I almost opened support ticket,since he wasn't there...

You first have to go to Vanthir in the city and THEN you go to Thalyrssa to turn the quest in.

For those having the same issue I had. (No response from First Acanist Thalyssra when you try to turn in the quest "First Contact") You have to feed her "First Acanist Thalyssra" mana (Click on the blue quest first) in order for her to respond to you so that you are then able to turn in the quest and receive the follow up quest "Arcane Communion/arcane-communion "

Locations: First Acanist Thalyssra is located in the "cave" Shal'Aran (The Sanctuary) In Suramar next to Arcanist Valtrois

The cave entrance is located near the flight path for Meredil in Suramar (I do not have coordinates, but If you look at your in-game map the cave entrance can be seen above the letters "ED" in the name "Meredil")

THALRYSSA is in a CAVE (although her ? suggests she is in RuinsEluneth. She is under the ?). To find cave entrance, stand at Meredril FP and face NorthEast. Look for two stone columns (the left one is broken). The cave entrance is in there.

Find Vanthir on The Grand Promenade, coordinates are 42.8 60.2. After you had a talk, he runs away and you have to get back to Meredil.

As of today, the Masquerade spell disguise doesn't work on all of the guards. Not sure if it's a bug but it happened several times en route to Vanthir, then immediately afterwards. You can ride while disguised but you can't cast it when in combat. If you get knocked out of the disguise in some parts of Suramar, you'll immediately be mobbed by about two dozen guards and you won't be able to find a clear area to rez. Whatever cancels the disguise also cancels Greater Invisibility (for Mages), so if you lose the disguise, you're toast. Might be a problem for rogues or any other concealment techniques as well as well.

anytime i've gone to find him on various alts, there's always a guard fighting another NPC near him. yet i was able to talk to Vanthir, just don't click the guard or the npc they're fighting, and you'll be fine.

For those who are unable to find the turn-in, it's with First Arcanist Thalyssra in the cave as Varene explained. If the yellow question mark is not above her head, you need to feed her hunger first with Ancient Mana and then you can turn-in the quest.

Blizzard should have refined this and similar quests for consistency reasons to alter the Arcane Thirst levels of the involved characters (for Thalyssra: Arcane Thirst (Thalyssra)). Thalyssra supposedly drank half of Half-Full Bottle of Arcwine so her level should have increased by 50.

If you're a big ole' dum-dum like me, you might not realize that you have to be wearing the Masquerade Mask before you can talk to Vanthir.

Description

Time to put your new disguise to the test.

Your first contact is Vanthir, a merchant from the common district. He is in the Grand Promenade today visiting one of his suppliers.

Tell Vanthir to pay me a visit regarding a shipment of dusk lily bulbs. He will understand.

Beyond that, we will need time to prepare. You should return to Thalyssra.
