to save a bit of time on this quest, either aggro the Rockhide Bulls (red mob) by being near but not attacking, or single targeting the Rockhide Grazers (yellow mob). The baby Rockhide Calves will run to any nearby herds and drag them over to you automatically. you can't damage the babies at all or they will aggro you and not do it.

You get over 100 pieces of meat per pack of elekks. So it doesn't take too long to complete.

If you have leatherworking and/or a Tannery in your garrison, it will behoove you to do this quest. Spend a few extra minutes in the field and get as much leather as you can. Do all the Shadowmoon Valley quests and bonus objectives, even. When you leave Shadowmoon Valley, the leather will be much, much scarcer, and you will need more, especially when you upgrade your Tannery to levels 2 and 3.

Rockhide Bull drops around 90+ meat per kill.
Rockhide Grazer drops around 40+ meat per kill.
Rockhide Calf drops around 15+ meat per kill.

Tagging one will almost always trigger the other Rockhides in the pack to join the fray. (I haven't found a combination where it doesn't, yet.)

Unfortunately, they were only able to carry 100 of them back to the garrison.

What a bummer. I was so happy when I saw this. On the first pack I got 153 right away. I wish they would only give 1 or 2 or so, rather then 100's.

What a stupid quest, very, very stupid. :'(

This quest actually pairs really well with the Barn Alliance-side for people who are interested in getting leather. Just wait until you're 92 so you have the Level 2 garrison, build a Barn as your medium-sized building, pick up the quest, then trap the Rockhide Bulls and Rockhide Grazers for the Barn and kill the Rockhide Calfs for the quest. You'll usually get about 30 steaks per pair of calves, so you'll have to do about 35 groups to finish the quest off. It'll take some time, but you'll also get a large amount (at least 50) of Leathery Caged Beast.

A little hint: always trap the Bulls first, and do your best to stay in melee range of them. They sometimes can use their Smash ability while trapped, and it frees them from the trap, allowing you to either trap them AND get the Raw Elekk Steaks from killing them, or just trap them twice (and since you get the Leathery Caged Beast when they trigger the trap, not when they disappear, you can get two of them per Bull). I've only seen them cast it twice usually, so generally you'll have to trap them between the first and second cast for it to work (or potentially before the first cast; I was not able to DPS them down fast enough to confirm that). This was easy enough to do regularly as a 95 Brewmaster Monk, but may be more difficult for other classes and levels.
