This may be obvious but you can talk to Huntress Sandrya Moonfall and choose the "I am ready. Begin the attack." option. He's much easier to defeat without his Aegis of the Shatterspear buff. Afterwards you can use the Nightsaber Rider near the Shatterspear Pass cave entrance to catch a ride back to Lor'danel.

It seems you have to be on the quest to kill him to get this. I wasn't on the quest to kill him came back and killed him to not get an item I even double checked.

At level 10 Huntress Sandrya Moonfall offers neither the quest nor the offer to help "begin the attack." Needless to say, Jor'kil the Soulripper doesn't drop Hellscream's Missive without it. Twinks beware.

Don't go AFK in the cave after you kill Jor'kil — everything respawns, without aggro from the Sentinels to keep it occupied.

So if, say, you decided to tab out and check out which reward you should keep for xmog purposes, you may tab back to a swarm of trolls beating you to death and a long graveyard run.

if you don't turn in the previous quest (with the vengeful protector), this one can't be finished. So if you can't loot the boss and can't end this quest, that may be the problem.

I have started having issues with this quest. I would have the attack start and would try and kill the troll but I would not get credit for the kill or be able to loot him. I did finally get through by basically standing in front of his face and when his shield is dropped pull him to the back of his cave so the other elves weren't attacking him.

Ending the Threat

Speak to Sandrya Moonfall to start the attack, and aid her in killing Jor'kil the Soulripper.

Description

Their leader and his guard are before us. My Sentinels are ready to take care of his guard, we only awaited this arrow to seal their leader's fate.

Let me know when you are prepared to attack. As soon as my Sentinels engage, I will shatter the leader's shield, and we will assault him together. Strike swiftly and we can rout this threat to our lands here and now.
