Right now this is suspected to be related to the secret summoning process of one of the new spirit bests. (Probably the lost spectral gryphon- maaaybe Gon the spirit raptor.) So if anyone finds the location of this- please post!

This item has been found by Rikaku and posted on the Petopia Community. The only current known location is apparently at the SW Flight Master, which summons the Spectral Gryphon. 16.04 EDIT: I've seen a lot of people talk about set spawn times in regards to the LSG and Gon. I'll lay it straight to you. Both of them don't have a fixed timer and can spawn anywhere from 15 minutes up to 14+ hours. It is not yet confirmed about the maximum spawn time, but it has been confirmed that there have been people waiting 12+ hours and 1 person 14 hours (approximately). Best of luck getting the pets.

Currently, AFAIK, it's on a 2 hour cooldown. RIP to any Horde hunters that want this pet...

Lost Spectral Gryphon is a new tamable pet for hunter added with patch 7.2.

To tame this pet, you need to follow the steps below :

Step 1 : Lost Spectral Gryphon is a spirit beast, so you need to have the BM spec. You need to have a 110 character too.
Step 2 : Go in stormwind in 71,72.
Step 3 : Here, you need to wait the spawn of Spectral Feather in the straw. The respawn time is very irregular (between 30min and 12h seems to be).
Step 4 : When Spectral Feather is spawn, click on and a mob appears.
Step 5 : You need to use Tame Beast to have the pet.
Step 6 : GG, you have a new spectral beast !

About respawn time: I spent one day camping, and I lost it on 3 occasions.

The respawn times were at 14:02, then at 20:00 and finally at 04:40 in the morning.
On the same morning, by my calculations, the Spectral Feather would have to respawn between 10:00 am to 13:00, and gave no other ... at 11:03, it gave new respawn, and I was able to tame the 7.2 new pet: Lost Spectral Gryphon.

So we can consider a respawn time from 6 hours to 8 hours +, like many other spiritual pets of the game. During my camping, i have had no experience with the 30 minutes rerspawn time that many are talking about.

The respawn happens next to the griffin seller Tannec Stonebeak, coordinates 71, 72. in Stormwind. The pet can also be tamed by any faction. And he's neutral.

The spectral feather is very blue with some blue glowing dust emanating from it laying on some light yellow hay. It can not be missed when it's up.

Submitted a screenshot showing it's exact location on the litter of hay as I found it.

When the servers went down last nite for no reason, I decided to wait the hours and hours it took for them to come back up for the offchance that the Eggshell for Gon was up when the servers came up. When they came up at 1:30am I was the first online and the Eggshell was there. I decided to check if the SPectral Feather was up too, and got there just as an alliance hunter was taming the Lost Spectral Gryphon.

TLDR: It seems both spectral items come up with the server restarts. Probably the best time to tame them :)

CRZ makes the spawn times hard to use but for those that are interested, it spawned on US Garona at 10:58 PM CST. I clicked the feather, started the tame, someone broke my tame, and tamed it themselves. While I want to be mad at them, I really can't. First off they were one of the few people who I've seen sporting Rhok'delar as a mog besides me. Second, we chatted for a while before hand. Lastly, it's a new spirit beast and we're all excited to get it. So, yeah. Congrats to you for your tame! :) I'll get him eventually.

got it at 4:15 am eastern today, 6 hours after last tame. Note, the feather is very small and you will miss it. I found it in the front pile of straw....but still, it was small. We had our evenings entertainment by seeing 3 horde try and get it, the BE kept getting killed by a 102 lock, the undead got it by the guards so often he left, and the other BE was killed by a 106 pally...after I got killed 10 times trying for the dino..guess it's just deserts

I feel CRZ Realm spawning is potentially broken for some servers. I am on Llane - US. Let me give you some examples

I had no luck searching for the Emerald Proto Whelp. No matter when I checked, or how long I camped, I could not find one spawn. I had a friend on Scarlet Crusade zone into Scholozar Basin first, then invite me. After the invite, I zoned into Scholozar and immediately found every spawn point packed with Emerald Proto Whelps.

There were two rare-spawn pets in Felwood I wanted to tame, and I could not find either after hours of camping non-stop, as well as trying on other days. Asked my Scarlet Crusade friends for help, and I immediately found both up as soon as I zoned in after them.

I've been camping the Spectral Feather for over 12 hours yesterday as well as 8 hours today (5/06) without any spawn. Zoned out of Stormwind, got an invite from a friend on Bladefist (which is same Battlegroup as Llane), zoned back in. Immediately found the Spectral Feather without any wait time.. I'm fairly convinced I'm just screwed by my CRZ.

I just tamed this Hunter pet. 11:10 pm server WoW time on Norgannon. As stated previously it was in the straw near the wall where the Stormwind flight point is. Its directly in front of the Swift Red Gryphon, to the left of Gryphon master Tannec Stonebeak. Co-ordinates approximately 71.66 : 72.04. I'm thinking about trying to stay awake long enough to see when the respawn pops up. If I'm able I will post the time on respawn.

At 5:53pm Gurubashi server time I went to have a first look at the location and see if it was even possible to camp as a horde. I guess I got lucky because as soon as I flew up the feather was there with no ally around. Got myself the gryphon without even camping. I then proceeded to taunt all the ally hunters who had just missed their chance, /lol whilst I died. Definitely a fun tame. Now on to the raptor in Org and I will once again have all the sweet hunter pets :D I think if you are looking to camp it as horde you're going to have to just hover with your mount near the location of the nest, i don't think I would go afk since there are a lot of spots ally can snipe you from. The feather was bright enough to see before I even got to the platform, so it's easily spotted. Good luck :)

Edit: I just flew to Orgrimmar after taming the gryphon, and low and behold the spectral egg was sitting right in front of me at 6:11pm Gurubashi with not a soul in sight. 2 Spirit pets in less than 30 Minutes, I think is a record. I should buy a lottery ticket.

To Horde players:

You can see this feather while you are dead. If I wasn't so scared to lose the tame I would have taken a screenshot.

I was killed while camping this (lets be honest, the corpse run is painful for the Horde) so I ran back to my body and stood right in front of the nest in spirit form.
I waited for the feather to appear, rezzed, clicked the feather, killed the NPC's on me, dismissed my pet who was needed to kill the NPC's, and started the tame... Got it!

As for this whole cross realm mess; I logged on to my hunter who was camped dead at the feather, and then found a Stormwind PvP group from my server. Joined the group and it phased me to wherever and the feather was there. So keep trying because who knows what server you are on at any given time.

I definitely recommend this strategy!

I just discovered this pet on wow-petopia. What a nice pet, i thought. So I went to SW to try and see if a feather was there. There was. And so I clicked the feather. Damn, what a fine pet, I thought. I tried to tame it, but (obviously), my stable was full. I went to put one of my pet to the stable. Quickly, you know, in less than a minute. When I went back, it was gone. And then, I read the comments here about the respawn time. ^&*!.

Just discovered this pet because I'm behind on everything. Started camping an hour ago (3am Wyrmrest Accord). I'll keep this post updated.

(EDIT) Tamed him around 4:50am. I got bored and tried server hopping by joining groups under custom until the feather spawned.

I just discovered this tameable while in Stormwind. Decided to check it out and there it was. Snagged it and was so excited I let my guildies know.. and they freaked out and swarmed the place in an effort to camp XD

Tip: if you already tamed this and plan on being nice by announcing in trade chat or general chat that the feather has spawned, please also mention that this is for hunters only or else some %^&*!@# warrior is going to murder this magnificent beast thinking he'll get loot.

as for taming the griffon, I was on my troll and I flew to the outside of the sw flight area to the right on a hill. I swooped down landed nothing attacked saw a white thing clicked on it and tamed the griffon and surprise it took a minute now on my dwarf i'm on now 3 days, just 5 hours today and no feather. I found it interesting that my dwarf getting the raptor and it was an easy 5 minutes. makes me wonder.....

Heard rumors that 8.0 decreased the time between spawns for this and the spectral eggshell and decided to try for both just before the expansion. Since I first checked, the feather and eggshell have been there every time. Could just be the standard ease of finding rare spawns around patch time/new x-pac when less players are looking, and it could also have to do with players being split into War Mode and Non-War Mode instances, but regardless I tamed both of these guys on my first attempts this week after months of nothing.

Be aware, it will disappear after a few minutes.

I don't play my Hunter much right now and didn't have my Tame Beast on the bar and like an idiot, didn't find it ahead of time. So by the time I found it, put it on my bar, the bird was gone.

I'm a fresh 120 on my horde hunter (she's not my main and can't do LFR in BFA yet). Went to Stormwind and feigned death next to red armoured griffon. Was killed but ran back as a ghost and waited as a ghost at the spawn point until feather appeared 4 hours later. I was able to rezz click feather back into the corner next to red armoured griffon and tame without going below half health. there were alliance players there but none tried to kill me or griffon so that was amazing! The realm I play on Velen and tamed at 2:23 AM PST. You can see the feather as a ghost! Love my Stoirme, beautiful pet! GL taming everybody! Special thanks to the Alliance for not attacking me or griffon so I could tame this beauty! I hope the horde will provide the same courtesy if you are trying to tame Gorn.

I've taken a look here and there but never really camped it for any straight length of time in regards to hours... It was never up when I was there.
Tonight I couldn't sleep so I decided to go ahead and spend some time there. (I'll update this post with the time I found it).

9:57am 2/17/2020
So basically I logged off at 4am last night in the camping spot, went to sleep. Woke up at the above mentioned time and it was THERE. BAM! Got my pet with no hassle/interruption :). I actually logged back out right THERE - I'm going to try for another one :)

12:21PM 2/17/2020
After I got the first Spectral Feather - I decided to log back out - but in doing so was killed. No problem - when I logged back in as a ghost I just ran back to my corpse to continue sitting there for the next login/random check and BAM! There it was - so I revived and got my 2nd pet :) ...woot woot!

Here's a few notes to consider:
(obviously if you're Ally this doesn't necessarily apply to you)

-- Don't panic! What I mean is - when you see the feather and go to interact with it - you will be under pressure not only from the location itself but you will immediately be attacked by the guard on the other side of the wall which will interrupt your interaction with the feather and delay your tame by a second or two. Just relax - keep trying and get your pet...
-- Spectral Feather pops at the Stormwind Flightpath - on the hay - along the right wall - right in front of the Griffon with the red visor thingie (72,72)
-- off hours (less Ally lurkin' about)
-- using the toy Spectral Visage will make you almost invisible and lasts about 30 minutes (but doesn't matter once Feign Death wears off or Officer Jaxon rolls up because you'll be instantly attacked. (All this toy does really is make you a little less noticeable if Ally aren't really paying attention))..
-- using Feign Death will stop the guard on the other side of the wall from attacking you
-- if the roaming guard Officer Jaxon wanders up - Feign Death won't stop him from attacking you - but he's weak and can be killed easily
-- you could stay mounted and if trouble happens - take off to clear aggro or outrun any attacking Ally but then you risk getting constantly pelted with the little weak arrows from the guard on the other side of the wall
-- standing on the ledge directly to the right seems to give you some distance from the guard on the other side of the wall but won't save you from Officer Jaxon because he rolls right up to within a few feet of the wall, but as mentioned earlier - he dies quick
-- if you DO happen to be killed by Ally - just come back as a ghost and hang out right THERE at your corpse and continue camping (this works - I've confirmed it). No one is going to sit there for hours on end camping your corpse while you are camping the feather. When it pops - revive, summon and tame (and hopefully while you're doing that there are no Ally around and if there ARE hopefully they know what's happening and will remain cool about it)...
-- if you are intent on really camping it - have a movie going or something to occupy your time but remember: Feign Death only lasts 6 minutes
-- getting 2 of these will allow you to have both summoned at the same time later on down the road which will look really cool (if you don't know how to do this: have one in the first TOP slot of your stable and one on your character)
-- If you have nothing really pressing coming up but you don't necessarily want to leave for the 'just in case' - log out right THERE and just check back every once in awhile. Just remember - For HORDE it takes awhile to get here...

If I think of anything else I'll list it as well...

2P Horde strategy

My partner and I are Horde, she's a lv 50 BM Hunter and I'm a Paladin (Ret for what it matters). We flew to Stormwind City on my X-53 Touring Rocket (Sandstone Drake, etc will do fine too, or you can each just fly in on your own mounts), facing the main wall, and I perched on the ledge outside the flight point at about 71.8 74.6. From here, she was able to sidle around the corner and check for the feather, and it was there! I ran out into the FP area and aggroed all the guards/etc, and she clicked the feather and popped the tame. I provided enough of a distraction for the guards and stuff, she completed the tame and we both bailed out the window into the water, and hearthed out.

One word of warning: there is a patrol of gryphon riders that circle around the front of SW; they fly in low and then swoop up to go over the wall... it doesn't seem they'll spot you if you're on the ledge, but if you're scouting outside the holes, they'll shoot you right off your mount.

One attempt, two blood elves, one spectral gryphon, zero deaths! From scouting to hearth it took us about five minutes, I guess we were lucky that the feather was there 😁

I waited by spawn location for about 30 minutes, when Lost Spectral Gryphon appeared. Easy tame, and I am now going to wait for another spawn. I'll let you know how it goes.

For any Horde Hunters waiting for the spectral feather to spawn, you are waiting in vain and will potentially need an Alliance Hunter (above 45 in level) to come help you.

I believe this feather may only spawn for Alliance Hunters who are above the level threshold. A Horde Hunter can still use and tame it, but it won't spawn for them.

I was waiting with a friend for 3 hours, checking different phases, etc but no luck. I logged onto my level 52 hunter (different realm) and it was there immediately. Perhaps it was just another phase, but I think it pretty unlikely.

I logged on this morning onto Saurfang (Oceanic) just before 4am NZT (server was about to restart), my alliance hunter was positioned by the straw in front of the Gryphon Keeper (I submitted a screenshot). The feather was there, I clicked on it, the mount appeared and I tamed it. Then this evening I came in and went on WOW around 9:30pm, logged in and another feather was there, so yep got that one too. So easy on an alliance hunter! Yay! Just have to think of names for them now...(first world problems, he).

This is available in the Legion Remix but only for Alliance characters. The portal is in The Greymane enclave, or you can use the optional quest chain to see the start of the expansion (I *think* it takes Alliance players to Stormwind). The raptor, Gon, is also available, but only to Horde players (there's a portal in Thunder Totem).
The eggshell for Gon is visible at 14, but requires level 40 to actually summon. The feather is probably the same.

BIG EDIT: Not only are the two NOT faction locked after all, you can also find and tame Lightning Paw in Duskwood!
From Horde side, you take the zep to Grom'grol, then fly north, through Duskwood to Stormwind. Alliance side is reversed, taking the Grom'gol zep to Org.
