There are a lot of level 1 bats in the Whispering Forest of Tirisfal, but you need a flying mount to get there. Look at the big lake on your map and go into the mountains just south of it. Watch out for the level 85 bear - it's the only aggressive thing in that area, and there's only one.

These will also show up in Hyjal as a secondary/tertiary battler, even though so far, the only primary spawns I've found have been in one cave, and haven't spawned as capturable.

Confirmed, within tirisfal zone, WEST of dethknell (undead beginner area) uncharted "whispering forest" nothing there but some shrooms in the center and A LOT of rats and bats took me about 10 battles - got my rare lv1 look for 124 HP that is the magical number to know if your fighting a rare. I've begun to notate what hp the pets that i fight have there is definitely a direct correlation, yet, at times the pet with the highest hp isn't always rare. The secret is finding the hp amount that you haven't seen on ALL the other pets (of that type and level( rat , bat, squirrel etc.)) that you have fought prior, one that has not repeated itself. this way you can forfeit if you see repeats but stay and capture if you see a strange hp amount. hope this helps.

As I went through the Whispering Forest (above Deathknell) there were only two capturable bats up at a time. I went through and killed nearly every non-battle critter in the subzone twice, but never had more than the same two pop up again. In my limited data, these do not share a spawn with the other critters, but who knows? Maybe it's linked to weather or time or some such thing.

I did capture one of these eventually, but NOT in Tirisfal. I found my bat in Eastern Plaguelands between the Marris Stead and the Crown Tower.

The term "flying" is a bit ambiguous. If it's a Flying-type because it can fly, where does that leave Chickens and Crane Chicks? Oddly enough these are both Flying but Mulgore Hatchling is a Critter-type, with mainly Beast-type attacks.

If it's a Flying-type because it is a bird (having feathers, no proper teeth, laying eggs, and so forth) then a Bat should not be a Flying-type.

This pet is a staple in my battle rotation, with Reckless Strike I can pretty much take out any wild Aquatic pet with two hits, and with Bite and Screech to finish off the Critters they're very useful in wild battle situations. So anywhere where there is a high probability of encountering Aquatics; Valley of the Four Winds, Jade Forest, etc, I keep her handy. I've leveled a lot of pets very quickly thanks to her knock-out power!

You can also meet them in a lvl. 25 version during pet fights with Dust Bunny in Dalaran, Broken Isles (notice that you need the Spring Cleaning Buff in order to see the Dust Bunnies). I just got a rare one today.

I spent hours farming for a P/P (don't care about rarity because I can just use a stone to upgrade) in the Whispering Forest in the western part of Tirisfal Glades, but could not get any P/P to spawn. I remembered that there was another pet that would convert to P/P if a P/B was caught so I decided to give it a try and lo and behold, I went after a P/B and it changed to a P/P in my pet journal. Just wanted to pass this along as I didn't see it posted here in case someone else is also farming for this specific P/P breed.
