Before you start:

1) There seems to be universal consensus on other forums that the reward is not worth the cost until the Conservatory is at level 2 or higher.
2) The catalyst MUST be 'planted' BEFORE the wildseed is imbued.

Now, as for the plots and catalysts:

First, look at the ground. You will see a blue, sparkly path that interconnects Wildseed of Regrowth with the Anima Catalyst Plots. (See Screenshots) The plots are the small mounds of brown earth. (See Screenshots.) If the plot is empty, you'll have to wait until it respawns.

Second, note that the Anima Catalyst Plot may connect to 1 or more Wildseeds. The effect of the Catalyst is described in the tooltip box.

a) Temporal Leaves - reduces time for wildseed regrowth by 1 day
b) Wild Nightbloom - increases crafting mats by 100%
c) Wildseed Root Grain - increases the quality of rewards

When you plant the Catalyst in the plot, the Wildseeds (planted after the catalyst) will be impacted by the effect of that particular catalyst.

Note that you can have more than one catalyst impacting any given Wildseed and a Catalyst may impact several Wildseeds. The pathway determines which catalysts impact which wildseeds. If you imbue the wildseed before planting the catalyst, it will have no effect.

If you've done it right, you should see an energy connection between the catalyst and the wildseed.

Pick a plot that is connected by a blue path to at least one Wildseed. Click the plot (brown heap in middle of a blue ring) to select it.
Then click on the "plant" matter in your bag (Temporal Leaves / Wild Nightbloom, etc"), and it will be planted, and extend its influence to the adjacent Wildseed.
I had trouble making this work. I rebooted, and it worked. (Maybe I was doing it wrong the first time).
