Mists of Pandaria: Jade Forest Quest Preview
The Jade Forest
has undergone an extensive revision since we first previewed it, to better demonstrate the Alliance and Horde conflict. This zone is the first zone players will reach upon questing in Pandaria. Unlike past expansions, there are not two options for starting zones.
Players will acquaint themselves with Pandaren culture, as well as the Jinyu and Hozen. The Alliance will trace Anduin Wrynn's disappearance, and both sides will have a tragic clash by the
Temple of the Jade Serpent
, a new 5-player dungeon. Players will also have to return to The Jade Forest at 90 to train with
Order of the Cloud Serpent
in order to ride Cloud Serpent mounts.
Of note: some of the early quests reward items that resemble Tier 9 raid gear, like
Barricade-Breaker Cudgel
.

Since we first previewed the zone, some changes have been made. Here's some screenshots from the new areas.

We ran through the
Temple of the Jade Serpent
today--it's a pretty quick instance but each wing is richly detailed. You can also buy all glyphs for from a vendor right inside the instance. All bosses dropped ilvl 425 loot, but they were reskins of 4.3 gear and didn't have real names yet, like
Chestguard of Despair
.
The instanced version of the
Temple of the Jade Serpent
looks practically identical to the outdoor quest version--except it's been corrupted by the Sha. The library and water wings are accessible, as is the central area where questgivers and monks trained formerly. After questing through The Jade Forest, it's intriguing to find out how the temple ended up in such a state.

the druid class

Mists of Pandaria: Jade Forest Preview and News Round Up
We were lucky enough to preview the start of the Jade Forest questline in beta before the zone was later closed! Here's a peek at the cutscene for the Alliance--as covered in our
Press Event
coverage, it's quite different than the cutscene for the Horde with a very angry Garrosh.
We've also got screenshots of the initial Alliance and Horde questing hubs in The Jade Forest, as well as some of the Temple of the Jade Serpent!
Be sure to check out our recent Mists of Pandaria beta coverage--this weekend alone we

Mists of Pandaria Day Two: Quest Armor Sets, Challenge Mode Sets, and 3D Models
We datamined dozens of new models today from the Mists of Pandaria beta, including striking new armor pieces from questing and Challenge Modes. The whole content team has been hard at work putting together videos of all the models below--some of the quest reward sets are really distinctive, and there's a bunch of asymmetrical shoulder designs, which players love. You can preview all the models in our 3-D Model Viewer as well!

Frostbitten: Guide to All Rares, Part 2
We covered a number of rare spawns in
Beyond Bloody Rare: A Guide to Rares
last year, but we found even more fun ones we wanted to share with you!
While some rares drop a random assortment of greens, a fair amount have specific loot associated with them--some for transmog, some just for status or bank alts. Rares have a ton of personality with their unique models and names, usually after pop-culture references, so it's fun when their loot has some humor as well. We scanned all the rares in the database to see which ones had anything notable!
In this guide, we've provided mouseover images of the rares, maps, and links to any unique loot drops.
In the previous guide, we covered: rares for achievements, hunter tames, notably-named ones from classic instances and zones, and Cataclysm rares.
A note on droprates: many of these mobs had their levels and loot tables adjusted in Cataclysm. Drops that were nearly guaranteed from mobs are now extremely rare. If the loot's been rescaled for Cataclysm though to match a mob's new level, chances are it still exists in game--as several users have reported. If an item's level doesn't match a mob's l

Cataclysm Post Mortem -- Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street
As part of our World of Warcraft: Cataclysm post mortem series, we sat down with World of Warcraft Lead Systems Designer Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street to talk about his thoughts on World of Warcraft: Cataclysm.
Q. What were your main goals going into Cataclysm?
A: Westfall was a seven-year-old zone with seven-year-old trees and seven-year-old quests. It naturally felt old. It felt tired for players going back to level up an alt, and it wasn’t inspiring for new players coming to the game. We just felt like it was time to give all of those old 1-60 zones some attention again. Beyond that though, we wanted to update the classes at low level as well. The spell flow, by which we mean the level you get certain spells, just hadn’t aged well. You would get some very group-focused buffs at low level and some powerful leveling tools at high level, which would have made more sense reversed. There were some specs that just weren’t functional at low level before because they lacke

But on to the really exciting news: it looks like there's a new Scroll of Resurrection program! It was accessible on live servers earlier today (via your Real ID list), but looks to be down for maintenance now. It's a pretty sweet deal to draw your friends back in--the recruited friend gets a free faction change, server transfer, and copy of Cataclysm, as well as a character instantly boosted to 80. Cataclysm Post Mortem -- Dungeons and Raids with Scott “Daelo” Mercer
Soon we fly together again...
We received the following pics from Blizzard this morning, with this cryptic message: "Soon we fly together again..."
Any idea what it could mean? We're curious to know more about these mounts!
Cataclysm Post Mortem: Dungeons and Raids
As a part of our post mortem series on Cataclysm, we sat down with World of Warcraft Lead Encounter Designer Scott “Daelo” Mercer to hear his thoughts on Cataclysm dungeons and raids.
Q. What were your main goals going into Cataclysm?
We really wanted to make sure we were creating new challenges, strong mechanics, and cool creatures while staying true to the expansion and the themes we wanted to carry out. The three raid dungeons came out well and we had a lot of fun bringing the story of Nefarian and the Twilight’s Hammer to life. We were also able to add some dynamic mechanics in
Throne of the Four Winds
, which featured players moving across multiple platforms.

Best in Show: A Guide to All Shirts
Shirts can't be transmogged, but a well-chosen one can change the look of everyday gear. They're not restricted by class or armor limitations, so nothing is out of reach for avid collectors. They're great for both bank alts, players looking to cover up skin, or show off a rare find.
Plus, Ashelia has always wanted a shirt guide, and since this week marked a year for her at Wowhead, I thought it was a good time to write such a guide!
I've organized all the shirts by color, as well as providing descriptions, acquisition methods, and crafting materials. The descriptions are more elaborate than in the past--besides a written blurb, there's toggled user-submitted screenshots for every shirt.

50 Easy Elders: Getting the Lunar Festival Pet
The biggest draw of the 2012 Lunar Festival is the new vanity pets--but the catch is that the Festival vendors sell different ones to each faction for 50 Coins of Ancestry. However, the pets are BoE, so we'll show you the easiest way to get 50 Elders if you rolled an alt for the pet, but got stumped after ??-level guards one-shot you in Brill. Whether you want to sell extra pets for gold, roll a toon on the opposite faction to put the pet on the Neutral AH, or don't have enough tokens on your main to buy everything you want (like engineers), this guide can help.
This guide provides maps and tables organized by difficulty level for each faction. For Elders that are tricky or located far away from flight paths, I've also provided tips to reach them without dying, after personal experience on my 58 deathknight and 62 mage.
For the purposes of this guide, I will assume that you only have ground riding. Deathknights have flight paths in 1-60 zones learned automatically, so getting to 60 for a Flight Master's License is not that important if your'e that class. However, you will be able to get 4+ more Elders easily with flying.

No BlizzCon in 2012
Some shocking news early this morning--there will be no BlizzCon in 2012. Blizzard says that since they've been working hard on Diablo III, Mists of Pandaria, and Heart of the Swarm, their schedule is already jam-packed. This announcement will probably come as a disappointment to some players (including myself! I had a blast attending last year) who viewed BlizzCon as a way to socialize with WoW friends in person. However, there probably wouldn't be much new news to cover with MoP coming soon--BlizzCons that haven't revealed new expansions have been less exciting.
