How easy/difficult is it to update ElvUI with the new pre-patch? Will I need to re-do all of my settings or will they still be saved?
I dont like how ElvUI makes the game's interface look so.. "SciFi", and I know there are multiple skins etc out there but most ppl I've seen use this skin and imo it does not suit WoW
I've been using ElvUI since Wrath and I refuse to play the game without it.. Thanks to them and the team for knocking it out of the park once again and having their UI ready on patch day..
ElvUI is a fantastic addon that can be intimidating for first-time users. Honestly if you spend a little time working through the customization options and start with only changing a few things at a time you'll be an expert in no time.
And here i am using tukui with tukui extensions no one wants to update. But you guys know when you find that addon or ui that works for you.. You just cant move on
As nice as ElvUI is, my biggest gripe with it has always just been the overall style of it. Most of the time its okay because you can use things like Masque to skin other stuff to match, but its not all inclusive. Every time I get ElvUI and make a really nice looking UI, I'm satisfied for all of about a week, then something happens be it a series of errors causing problems, or some part of the Blizz UI didn't get skinned to match ElvUI (ex. trade windows are not all skinned for some reason) or an add on like WeakAuras doesn't have an ElvUI-esque skin and it just breaks the visuals in my mind and I end up reverting back to the default UI with some extras like Leatrix Plus or Move Anything. I think ElvUI is an amazing addon and there are a lot of possibilities with it, but it just detracts from the style of WoW way too much for me (for example, even though I only spend maybe a few seconds on the login/character select/loading screens, it looks weird to go from that to the cleaner sharper borders and textures of ElvUI and I just end up disliking the drastic style differences). Plus I've had issues where my ElvUI will just break on me, especially during new patches and such, which just end up adding to the frustration, and I revert back to default because it can't break if there's no extra things to break. Also personally, I wouldn't ever recommend a new player get ElvUI, at least not straight away. I'd focus on learning the game first, then get the UI built. Addons help but the game is playable perfectly fine with little to no addons. Returning players its probably okay unless they took a very long (1-2+ expansions) break. I know a few friends I've tried to help get into the game, but then someone tells them like, "oh download ElvUI and WeakAuras and Details and..." and then they get overwhelmed and end up quitting before they really even play the game. To each their own though, just that has been my experience in that regard.
Joy joy all the addon's that will break today lol 1/2 the day will be spent just updating addons'
I have used Elvui for years and years. In between breaks in play by years I would always go back to it. It just doesnt seem to work as well as it used to. Im still using it but I found that every character I log in needs heavy formatting because things look dumb or bars are in the wrong place. For example. My Shift-1 spell bar is on the bottom of the page. A bar that usually sits in the right side wall be default is now my 2nd bar. So I need to format both those bars and place them where they are supposed to go. It also works very poorly with weakauras, and you can affect your other characters UI designs if you aren't careful when setting up a different character. But, its still better than retail UI.
It's actually git.tukui.org
The thing I hate about ElvUI is that wether you like it or not, everything from the map, bag, questlist, profession window etc changes. If it was somehow possible to only get the raid frames, that'd be fantastic.
As someone is switching back to the regular UI (I just like the look in the end much better than ElvUI) what flavor improvements do you use?
