While I like the idea behind it, I still think that it shouldn't apply to battle.net friends. Because I can imagine what kind of words are banned, but not all of them are used only as insult.

The word? Lootbox
And here I was hoping this was about boost spamming and the chat. But Blizzard still needs that sweet sweet token money, so they won't do anything about it.
Why not just leave this in the hands of the players? If you don't like what someone says or does just ignore them. The reason I have a problem with this feature is not because of this particular word, but because of the slippery slope it could create. Like Flakka said, at some point they might start censoring words like "simp, "fat", "ugly" or "stupid".At least allow players to turn this off via some toggle in the options menu.
I want filtering to blacklist words in LFG like "sell" "boosting" WTS" PLEASEEEEEEEE :(
This is excellent news. Tired of toxic bigots thinking their language is acceptable everywhere.
As long as they still remove chat previlegies from the people that write the words.People will find away to bypass the filter hopefully there is some machine learning or something that will pick that up too.
Worth mentioning that this is likely related to the datamined Text-To-Speech feature for chat. It seems racists will bend over backwards to justify being able to say despicable things with no backlash, even when it makes sense and Blizzard is well, WELL within their right to stop it.
If they start censoring stuff like the Tiananmen Square Massacre? Then I'll start getting concerned, but everyone screaming and crying over "i can't say slurs anymore!" is a pathetic loser lmao
I hope that it will be language based. It will be very annoying dealing with the same problem on wow.An example (a bad one): on twitch you get censored and your message suspended with some words, words that in english are "restricted" but in your language those same words are normal verbs or nouns (ofc with a meaning completley different from the restricted word), also, even if you add the word to the permitted ones, your message will be suspended anyway.Another example, more practical (italian twitch chat): it happened several times a message got suspended because it contains the present of the verb "to have" (i have that mount > ho quella cavalcatura), "ho" sounds like something else (written not so differently but with another meaning).
Ah the old "stop trying to restrict free speech" argument. How many times do people need to be told that a) free speech is not freedom from consequence, b) freedom of speech also does not apply to private businesses- they can filter you however they like, c) hate speech and racists slurs are not free speech, and d) while you are entitled to your $%^&&# opinions, no one else should be forced to listen to or read your racist, misogynistic, 'phobic' vitriol. There's no place for it in a game played by people of all ages. If you can't insult someone without resorting to insulting something they can't change, you need to grow up and get a life.
Removed Sadly, this demonstrates my point ☹
They will circunvent it in the same way some other peoples do in countries with censoring, just hope they at least become clever whenthey remade they wordi will not mind being called "uncultured lv1 hedgehog" if is creative
Unacceptable!
I kind of think this should still be locked behind the profanity filter, personally. They did something similar with Overwatch where you can vary the severity of the filter for yourself. I feel like it shouldn't necessarily be forced on all players, many are owed a right to their freedom of speech. Or something like that. In the end it's Blizzard's game, but I'm worried this'll become more hostile and become a problem of its own later on. People will try to subvert the filter, and in an attempt to further censor the subversions, blizzard might get more strict with this method, which could lead to the censoring of mundane words on accident.I'm not saying it's a definite but, hypothetically speaking, if it does go down like that it's because they changed something that wasn't inherently broken to begin with and complicated the issue.
i think maybe its race based blockage because me and my friends are able to pm each other it still but we are black (can screenshot on reddit to verify that only certain ppl are censored and not everyone)
