Looks like you can get 30 of these(10 each) for completing the achievements Dragon Isles Crafting Order Apprentice, Dragon Isles Crafting Order Journeyman and Dragon Isles Crafting Order Master.

Do the Catching Up! storyline to turn them in, the questline requires Ohn'a'Roll done on the character and 25 skill to finish, but there's a skip available if you've done it on a alt.

(skip doesn't work if you've started the storyline)

These can be found by using Expedition Shovels on Disturbed Dirt Piles. Got 2 in about 20 minutes while flying around mining.
Update: The drop rate seems to have been severely nerfed. Lucky to get one a week now.

Coords 51.8 / 33.0, in the west of Maruukai (close to it).
On map there are 2 small peaks drawn. There's the cave

You have to complete the storyline that starts with quest A Gift for Miguel in order to be able to give these in to Khadin.

Has anyone received one of these over the past day or 2 from dirt or pack? I have one in my 1st pack after completing the Q chain and nothing since. I have 5 in my bag and wondered if 5 is the cap (even though the icon suggests 20).

If you wanna unlock these on an alt, literally all you have to do is finishing the "To the Azure Span" quest starting in Forkriver Crossing (It should be displayed with a big exclamation mark on your map). After that, you should be able to get back to Forkriver Crossing and start the "That's my Specialty" quest, which ultimately unlocks the Dragon Shards of Knowledge.

One of my guildies had Azure Span compain completed and "That's My Specialty" quest was not available
What we end up doing is:
I logged in on a toon who did not did "Into the Azure Span" quest
We used quest synchronisation feature
Accept "Into the Azure Span" quest
Completed "Into the Azure Span" quest
Turn back to Forkriver Crossing
And did "That's My Specialty" quest chain together

The only quest you need to do beforehand is To the Azure Span which starts from Forkriver Crossing in Ohn'ahran Plains (southeast). Then you can pick up the quest That's my Specialty from Forkriver Crossing and complete the short questline that leads up to Khadin.

I've just got it from the purple bag you get for completing the Clan Aylaag event (when they change their position on the map). Wonder if the chance it high there, since you can do just about 2 of them per week.
Also got 2 of them in one day from M+ chest.
Judging by the comments here though, it appears to be a simple rare world drop. Play the game, do content and.... hope?

Saw one of these drop from the last boss of a Mythic+ Azure Vaults. I believe they are attainable there as well just very rare. I have not seen once on my main or my alt since i turned in the ones from the quest.

If you're trying to get the passive Khadin's Wisdom to find Dragon Shard of Knowledge as a rare drop from all kind of content and Miguel Bright is not offering you the quest that starts this chain i think i've found a possible solution:

After completing the entire Ohn'ahran Planes campaign i talked to Merithra , she finally gave me the quest Into the Azure (which is tecnically a prerequisite for To the Azure Span, this sent me back to Forkriver Crossing, where Miguel Bright finally gave me the quest That's My Specialty to start with these Dragon Shard of Knowledge.

For as rare as this is and considering it's an epic item, the fact its only worth 1 point is disappointing. Make it like at least 5, come on. Even 3 would be better.

I definitely didn't get a single Dragon Shard of Knowledge on my main this week, and I have opened more than 400 Dirt+packs.
I logged on my alt, and I've got this on the very first dirt I opened.

Blizzard should clarify how the drop works and why it is capped like this and WHY it wouldn't drop at all.

EDIT: I'm getting one every two weeks or so.
It saddens me that people were able to "benefit" from the pre-hotfix drop of Dragon Shard of Knowledge and able to get like 300 knowledge points and it will take like the whole expansion for us to get that normally.

Managed to grab 2 on my main very quickly the first week i started farming my knowledge for professions but now i am barely able to get 1 per week even if i farm everything i see during my donjon queue time. Is there some kind of hidden buff for fresh 70 character ?

I've been gathering random treasures(packs) for over a week now just to get some actual "numbers". I've probably spent over 50+~ hours by now JUST gathering packs across the world. I've got *1* single Dragon Shard of Knowledge through this. What I'm suspecting is that there is some sort of a hidden cooldown or cap on how many you can get per week, *regardless* of what you do.

It's hard to trust the numbers because if people haven't done the quest chain then they won't get any at all. This is what makes it very tricky to try estimate the chance of getting these. I'm sure there are better ways to get these like killing rares or whatever, but this week I've only got 1(from a pack) and I've killed a lot of rares too. It just baffles me.

Considering how rare these seem to be, it makes no sense that they give just one measly profession knowledge.
I haven't seen one in weeks.

It should give at least three. One knowledge is barely worth the trip to the NPC.

Quest chain:

1. Artisan's Courier - Start From Haephesta /way #2022 57.93 68.22 Haephesta/ You need to see Thomas Bright /way #2022 60.22 72.16
2. A Gift for Miguel - First speak with quest giver, then Fly /way #2022 68.79 64.48, and slay Fire elementals to loot 3 Fiery Spirit.
3. To Give One's Heart - Open any Crafting profession and make Miguel's Gift. Then Speak with quest giver and take gift to Miguel Bright.
4A. Professionally Equipped - Speak with Mahra Treebender /way #2022 61.43 70.14 Mahra Treebender/ ( I pick 1-4-2-7-1 ) then wait 10 sec to finish quest.
4B. That's My Specialty - Speak with quest giver ( I pick 1-4-2 ) if you cant speak with him just moveout from him and back can be buged. When You finish This Quest The Wonders of the World will up.
6. The Wonders of the World - Speak with Thomas Bright /way #2022 60.22 72.16, Then Fly to /way #2023 46.13 59.90, and press on Strange Nest then wait few sec to finish quest. YOu will get Dragon Shard of Knowledge and Ancient Scrap of Draconic Wisdom.
7. The Master of Their Craft - Speak with Khadin /way #2023 52.11 33.53 cave enter Khadin/
8. A Worthy Hunt - Slay Thousandmile walking around /way #2023 50.18 36.67 Thousandmile

After This Story line You will get Khadin's Wisdom and 3 Dragon Shard of Knowledge. Dragon Shard of Knowledge You can exchange at Khadin /way #2023 52.11 33.53 cave enter Khadin/ You will get 50 Artisan's Mettle and 1 Dragon Isles ( depending on the profession ) Knowledge and 50 rep. for Artisan's Consortium - Dragon Isles Branch.

is not correct. I have not completed the quest on any of my characters, and I have received two of these Dragon Shards to date on a character I am levelling. Either your original post was made during the PTR when perhaps that was the case, or it was changed at some time since.

It is true I cant hand them in yet, but it appears I can certainly get them.

I thought these were used by Blizz as a catch-up mechanic, or am I wrong about that, since nobody else has mentioned this?

Have anyone levelled an alt several weeks into the expansion, and have you noticed an increased drop rate of these, as you are literally missing several weeks worth of weekly quests which gives regular knowledge?

Been able to turn these in the entire xpac on my alts. Since 10.0.5 two of my alts no longer have turn in options (alchemy/herbalism and enchanting/mining). All my other toons can turn in fine. Any ideas?

I've been farming these all day every day for the last couple of months or so and have just maxed out the entire engineering profession, so they are not capped, but are just very rare

There are two main methods to 'farm' this. One is treasures, the other rares. Treasures (dirt, chests, packs etc) are sporadic, a low drop rate but are essentially infinitely farmable. Rares are one a day but the drop chance is reasonably higher. Personally, by doing 'sweeps' of the rares in the following order: Tyrhold, Primalist Future, Imbu, Brackenhide, Nokudon Hold and Obsidian Citadel, I generally get about 10-20 a week. Mileage will vary, of course.

For those who can't figure out why they can't turn them yet but can talk to the NPC make sure to complete The Wonders of the World first and it will unlock the ability to turn them in.

The script for whether it is completed is

/run print(C_QuestLog.IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(67298))

It requires killing a mob that drops Esoteric Dragon Shard of Knowledge which you turn into Khadin in the cave at

/way #2023 51.78 33.02 Khadin Artisan Master

Then you can turn in Dragon Shard's of Knowledge to him from there on out.

They did... something... to the drop rate. Idk what. But I used to get them until I got a crafting profession. Now I get maybe 1 or 2 a week. Very odd

Although Dragon Shard of Knowledge had the "Crafting Reagent" removed from the tooltip, Blizzard must have forgotten to remove an internal flag—I can still store this item in the reagent-only bag.

Pretty reliable way to farm them now seems to be Dawn of the Infinite heroic via group finder as there is no lockout. I net about 2 shards per hour by queueing with 445 tank. I'd say it's around 0.75 shards per run. Your results may vary depending on how long you have to sit in queue and how fast you can clear it.

Used to be able to get them somewhat reliably from a round of treasure hunting. Haven't seen one in days, though. Killed about 10 rares, opened 15 Expedition treasures, and 45 buried treasures and got 0 (today)

Wish these were account bound. Can't sell them to a vendor and can't trade them. My main's professions are 100% maxed out so no use for them.

Can confirm as of 1/14/2024 that these drop very frequently in Dawn of the Infinite: Murozond's Rise Heroic. Completed 8 times, and have recieved 8 so far.

Some limited mileage in 10.2.5 on a newly dinged 70 on which I'm trying to max out Potions:

Dawn heroic:36-40 bosses: 3
Dreamsurge rares: ~10 kills (not sure if these count if repeated): 1
Forbidden Reach rares: ~40 kills (not sure if these count if repeated): 0
Treasures: across Reach and regular treasures (~200): 1

This was over the course of about ten hours, so about 0.5/hr... obviously very low sample sizes, but the drop rates are not great. Pretty sure the intention is that these aren't farmable. I'd advise you make a clear cut choice what to get with a new profession (you get about 100 Knowledge from one-time sources) and get the rest by weeklies. Fall is about 12 minutes per run, mileage varies. Farm at you own risk, I'd advise queuing for the dungeon (Fall is definitely faster) whilst doing rounds on the Reach or in the Dreamsurge area.

At this point in the expansion, these should be account bound. I know you spouted off some rhetoric early on about you wanted to be more alt friendly, yet you really screwed the pooch when it came to alts and professions. Let's make these account bound, and perhaps add in a few more catch-ups for professions.
