New in Wrath of the Lich King, the
Achievements
system has been added to allow characters to earn points and general bragging rights for their efforts in the World of Warcraft. The achievement screen can be accessed by clicking a new button, which resembles a small shield, in the player menu.
Players may complete more than 800 achievements upon release of Wrath of the Lich King. Some achievements award points which will be used as a currency for rewards that have not yet been revealed.
Achievements are awarded to players for various tasks and accomplishments, and are sorted into nine major categories:
General
General achievements focus primarily on character development and progression in non-instance/quest related forays such as collecting a certain number of vanity pets, obtaining a tabard or simply reaching level 10. A few examples of 'General' achievements:
Did Somebody Order A Knuckle Sandwich?
- Raise your unarmed skill to 400.
To All The Squirrels I've Loved Before
- Show the critters of Azeroth how much you /love them.
Into The Wild Blue Yonder
- Learn the expert riding skill.
Quests
Quest achievements focus primarily on completion of particular quest chains or a certain quantity of quests in a particular zone. This category is subcategorized into
Classic

3000 Quests Completed
- Complete 3000 quests.
Shadow of the Betrayer
- Complete 90 quests in Shadowmoon Valley.
The Bread Winner
- Make 10,000 gold from quest rewards.
Exploration
Exploration achievements focus primarily on the discovery and exploration of the worlds of Azeroth and Outland. This category is subcategorized into

Explore Grizzly Hills
- Explore Grizzly Hills, revealing the covered areas of the world map.

Player vs. Player
Player vs. Player achievements focus primarily on battleground, arena, and world PVP related objectives. This category is subcategorized into

- Get 20 killing blows without dying in a single battle in any battleground.

- In a single Warsong Gulch battle, kill 10 flag carriers before they leave your flag room.
Dungeons & Raids
Dungeons & Raids achievements focus primarily on PVE accomplishments in instances such as final boss kills, full instance clears, and other dungeon objectives. This category is subcategorized into

- Defeat the evil masterminds inhabiting Stratholme.

Professions achievements focus primarily on a character's progression in the primary and secondary professions. This category is subcategorized into

Reputation
Reputation achievements focus primarily on raising reputations with the game's various factions to Exalted. This category is subcategorized into

They Love Me In That Tunnel
- Earn exalted status with Timbermaw Hold.
On Wings of Nether

- Gain exalted reputation with the Argent Crusade, Wyrmrest Accord, Kirin Tor and Knights of the Ebon Blade.
World Events

Flirt With Disaster
- Get completely smashed, put on your best perfume, throw a handful of rose petals on Jeremiah Payson and then kiss him. You'll regret it in the morning.
'Tis the Season
- While wearing 3 pieces of winter clothing, eat Graccu's Mince Meat Fruitcake, drink Egg Nog, and use Mistletoe and a Handful of Snowflakes on a player.
Disturbing the Peace
- While wearing 3 pieces of Brewfest clothing, get completely smashed and dance in Dalaran.
Feats of Strength
Feats of Strength are a special category of achievements, most of which many players may not ever be able to obtain. These achievements do not reward points but spotlight very special and rare accomplishments in the World of Warcraft. A few examples of 'Feats of Strength' achievements:
Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian
- Completed the quest to obtain Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian.
Why? Because It's Red
- Obtain a Red Qiraji Resonating Crystal.
Old School Ride
- Owner of one of the original epic mounts that are no longer attainable.
