This is a DPS check/race. Underpin's melee attack does not do a lot of damage, he spawns adds over time, with a lot of health, that do a laser beam that hit hard. Underpin also drops bombs and put AOE on the ground that also hit hard. If you don't kill adds, they keep spawning and you get overwhelmed.
So you need to kill the adds at the same time while taking down Underpins health. Delves were made for solo players and Blizzard took the idea of a Delve and turned it into a dungeon.

Kick the Bombs he spawns into the adds he spawns.
2 bombs should kill any add they hit.

For the best use try to stay on one side so all the adds spawn in the same place.
Only move to a new side when the oil might get in your way.

If anyone has any tips or suggestions on how to click the ding-dang bombs through The Underpin's great metal mass, I think that's the most difficult part of the fight for me. Does the interact mouseover work on it, like we used to do for lock gates before the Gateway Control Shard was introduced? I forgot to check, heh.

It's not in the opening at the end of the Demolition Dome, but rather behind & above it. Use the ramp on the right and go up, back to the left, and under the stadium seats (above the previous opening).

I can't beat this as an item level 638 Warlock. The boss just rests to full health after 4-5 minutes when he is at 80ish health while I am still busy trying to kill his non stop spawns... this encounter is terrible.

My experience with this can be succinctly summed up with ~ (made a few attempts with my 651 Ele Shaman and had a hard time breaking the shield on ? difficulty)

..."Yeah, let's just wait for the next expansion."

EDIT: I did do this on "?" difficulty yesterday with a protection paladin. It's immensely easier with a tank spec that has a degree of self heal; did still take me a number of attempts and the priority is still the shield --> cronies. The main difference with a tank is that the cronies take 2 bombs to kill. 4 tier set is mandatory. Brann being 80 is recommended. I'm a partial clicker too. Good luck to all!

I'm doing everything I'm supposed to, but I still can't do it as a 648 hunter. I'm running around TRYING to avoid everything. I'm constantly firing only on the boss. I'm TRYING to kick the bombs at the adds and failing about 1/2 the time. I have every max possible buff and enhancement. I'm hitting all my cooldowns. Eventually I get hit with something and die. I've gotten the boss down to as low as 50%, and I've died 5 times. I'm not going to waste any more of my time on it.

You have to do all of it 100% perfect to beat this boss.

Done him as 648 Havoc DH rather quickly because of high mobility provided by that class imho. Double Fel Rush, The Hunt are highly recommended with equipment speed buffs like 10%+.
The tactics is rather simple. Just DPS him and try to kick some bombs towards robots while avoiding red rays and purple pools. I also tried to DPS him asap while he became shielded.

Brann's build was Healer and included in my case Overdrive Pylon and Pinged Augment Chip. The last one is a must have spell. Good luck!

Wiped on this on my 646 spriest 16 times trying to ignore adds and tunnel the boss. Set an interact keybind for the bombs and cleared it the next pull.

My expeirnce - it is awful designed boss fight. Bombs are obscured by boss and not doable by all classes by any means.
I tried it with my mage level 658 and couldn't do it.

Then I heard it is easy on DK - so I give it a try.
My DK was 645 I think and it was easy - went as blood.

My GF tried this on her disci priest 661 item level and also couldn't do it.

Seriously - that kind of bosses/arenas could be fun BUT Blizzard must start making them tuned to each class and maybe even to each specc otherwise it is like waiting who will discovery easiest class and specc and then go there with that class and specc.

I made a Wowhead account just to say that hardmode Underpin is the worst boss fight i have ever attempted to do in any video game. Beat after 245 attempts as a 650 frost DK. The only reason i downed him was bomb cluster rng. Good luck to anyone struggling with this and don’t give up. You may get lucky and get some close bomb groupings.

After 250 attempts, thousands of gold spent on consumables on the auction house and repairs, many mistakes and bad positioning, lots of extra gearing to increase my ilvl, lots of changes to my talent builds, many youtube video guides watched, I can proudly and finally say that I've given up and won't come back to this boss on double ? difficulty, I cannot do this anymore until it gets nerfed. Thanks.

I leave it late because of focusing on M+ and raids, so i actually only try it today at ilvl 676 (lol) BM hunter.

I one shotted it with dps brann and done it without kicking any bombs or killing adds, just pure dodge and nuke, while rotate through the heal, pots, def cds and pet heals. i think most class should be able to survive the full arena bombard (lol) without killing any adds, but do be mindful that i'm BM hunter so i can keep moving, i suppose class that require casting would actually need to kill those adds for more space to maneuvre. The hard part about those adds isnt their constant damage, but their line base frontal which can put u in pickle situation (ie, full of red lines + meteor + boss' flamethrower frontal)

I helped my MW wife and she done it at 671, by using dps brann + Pocket Factory + Three Dimensional Bioprinter. I suppose this would be more useful for most. What we did was she focus on doing bombs while her brann do the dps, and during first round of adds, when one of the adds got below 40%, hit it a few times till you get 2 copies of an assisting clone to help you throughout the fight. After that it's all about doing bombs to minimise the mech in the arena, dodge stuff, use cd to burst his shield, and if you are other healer class, keep brann alive, and refresh the clone copies if needed.

Another thing is to bind a key for kicking those bombs (do note that u still need to face the bomb towards the mob to be able to kick it).

Also do be mindful of 2 things about the boss: first one is his flamethrower, where it would help to bait it off direction where there's bomb u need to kick, and second one is to watch his hp, you would not want him to go into shielding when there are still many adds up and you need to bomb them off first.

Those red line laser does not one shot so cross them if you need to dodge other one shot mech, but do know that they might knock you into path of other line and multiple instance will kill you.

Other than that,i can understand how people done this at 630 ilvl, because it's not as long a fight as compared to s1, and probably less annoying/deadly combo too, and the room is larger, but as compared to S1's frustration, this one is more befitting its goblin theme of chaos and madness, things can go downhill really quick if you are not a very mobile spec and RNG spawn bombs in less ideal place for you to bomb the adds, which end up leaving many adds up.....yeah when you have many adds up, the dodging become madness lol.

This boss is dumb... You cant kick the bombs cus his body is in the way.. Im gs 650 assassination rogue, pop my cds to burst him, getting his shield down, kicking the bombs i can to adds.. but getting overwhelmed every time due to not being to kick these damn bombs.. then sliding into his flame attack he does and he randomly turns towards me after being in the opposite direction... im on try 20 lol

did after a couple of attempts as MM hunter, ilvl 653

after noticing that he was healing himself I tried to burn down when the shield is up, so saved cooldowns and lust for those to keep healing to minimum.
I kicked the bombs only for the first few sets of adds then concentrated on burning down so he could not heal
Used pet for tanking and did some cleave on the adds by sending pet to one of the adds so boss trailed to the add, did not have to use bombs as much that way.

Brann was healer spec

Certainly not ideal for MM with your limited manoeuvrability but managed to get the shield down quickly which meant I think I only had 3 shields to deal with.
You can dodge the shots from the adds as they as slow enough for you to dodge.

Gets a bit busy at the end

Did this as a 670 shadow priest and it was quite challenging (unlike certain other classes...)

I set brann to heals and kited the boss around the outside of the arena. I did not kill any adds and simply avoided all the bombs and attacks. Took a couple of attempts.

For anyone else having issues with clicking the bombs here is what you need:

Esc -> Options

Top right corner search for the word interact

1) Check off "Enable Interact Key" under Controls
2) Set an "Interact With Target" keybind key in Keybindings
3) In the General section make sure your "Interact Key Icons" is set to "Show All" and not just "NPCs Only"

You should now be able to kick the bombs by standing near them and pressing your interact with target keybind.

Shame on Blizzard for pushing a fight like this live with such an obvious player interaction issue.

I hope whoever designed this boss fight was fired. And stubs a different toe every day for the rest of their miserable sad little lives.
As a veteran player of two decades, this is the worst fight I have ever done. The worst combination of mechanics I have ever seen. And the most underwhelming reward for what is a ridiculously stupid RNG battle. Shame on you.

Finished this today after about 6 or 7 attempts as a casual BM hunter, ilvl 657, 80% of attacks were single button assist, almost but not max lvl Brann as DPS.

I prefer MM but it didn't have enough mobility so BM was the way to go. My pets kept dying as tanks so I turned off growl/taunt and Brann actually ended up holding aggro for the most part even though he was on DPS mode. Ignoring the adds did not work for me... I could dodge a lot of their damage but it always go to be too much to deal with in the end. Since Brann ended up as a DPS "tank", it kept the boss away from me enough that I could actually aim and click/kick the bombs to take out the adds surprisingly easily.

This fight is about managment

Every 45 seconds the shield will proc, during that time, take down as many adds as you can, and dps him.

That is pretty much the gist of the fight.

You clowns can downvote me all you want, that's how it works, you being bad at the fight doesn't change anything and why you will never complete it

Was this removed by any chance? Trying to clear my questlog but when I get to the Immersion entrance it says I need to be level 80 and it's all greyed out (I'm lvl 80, yes).

As of 11.2, you cannot enter the delve. It gives blanked out options for "Tier 8(Season 2)" and "Tier 11 (Season 2)"

If, like me, you forgot to do this quest and need space you can just abandon it. Rather than putting in the work to remove it from your log automatically and coding it correctly to not give you the awards for doing it prior to season 2 end, they just took away the trigger for the interface to register your level.
It won't recognize you are level 80 and thus you cannot select a tier to enter it.
Unless you find a way to access the instance through a glitch you cannot complete this quest anymore, it is currently dead content.
Edit:
If you have space for the quest you can try to save it in case Blizzard brings the boss back for an event in the future, ie Korrak can be killed in Wrath zone and it counts for Korrak's Revenge Alterac Valley PvP quest due to same NPC ID. Since he was a challenging boss this might be something they would do. And since most of Blizzard's work is AI based now, them using old IDs for new NPC mobs will likely be more prevalent in the future.

Those looking for to complete this after Season 2:

You have to AGAIN unlock/clear other Delves up to at least Tier 8 for ? fight difficulty, and then up to Tier 11 for ?-? fight difficulty, before you attempt to enter Demolition Dome to defeat The Underpin, otherwise the choices will appear greyed out.

Started TWW with Season 3 and this quest, along with the 2 previous ones ("seasonal refresher" and "I want my hat back") is nowhere to be found.

- Did all Delves on T11 and completed every single available quest in TWW
- Killed Ky'veza on T11
- Killed Underpine on T8 and T11
- Killed Zekvir on T8 and T11

Am I missing something?

I can enter the "Tier ?" but the door inside the instance is closed.
Is this a bug, or am I missing some prerequisites?
I played it when it was current but never managed to kill with my rogue.
Still have the quest in the quest log that I would like to finish, but the damn door does not open.

Update: It was either fixed or it was closed before because I killed the same boss in the arena when on open world before entering the delve. Saw him outside but this time did not killed him, and door inside instance was open. Hope this helps if someone gets across same issue.

I can confirm that this is doable again, I just walked up to the door, selected ? difficulty, burned the boss down and looted the explosive victory toy off his body.

I have completed a max fan TWW delve (and midnight) for the record.
