This mob is actually very rare, unlike most Draenor rares. He will likely not be spawned when you go looking.

As a monk, this is one of my only good sources of pants without rolling the dice that are dungeons.

I've come down to this cave twice looking for this rare (by following the river south from Akeeta's Hovel, then going into the cave after I drop down the waterfall) and have not yet found him.

I've read on another website that certain rares such as this one will ONLY appear if their area is selected as one of the Apexis assault daily quests for the day. In this case, Assault on Lost Veil Anzu/Assault on Lost Veil Anzu.

This is not yet confirmed, but any other monks looking for a pants-slot upgrade might find this information helpful.

I thought I was in for a sure fire win of some nice legs for my drood.

How wrong was I?

After about 4 attempts (due to those pesky amorphic cogniters interrupting the fight each time ) and then a further 7 minutes on the successful fight, I killed this thing as an ilvl 608 guardian spec drood, and only the primal spirit and about 10 apexis shards dropped.

Unhappy bear :(

TL:DR Legs aren't a guaranteed drop.

this guy is a bugger to kill and he hits pretty hard to and stuns you heaps , along with that even once the mobs are cleared from the area they respawn pretty quick and the amorphic cognitor add x 5 smash you real quick. so i f you get the hulk and the adds your dead for sure. to do this i cleared the lower ramp and the adds in the water and dragged him up the ramp out the way even tho it took a couple of attempts and health pots to. good luck

plus all he dropped was apexis crystals and primal spirit no blue gear so obv not guaranteed drop from him.. he was not part of the daily quest for me he spawned whilst i was in the cave pet hunting.

There is a safe spot inside the cave where you can fight him without risking any adds.

At the low side of the ramp leading down into his pool, just by the water, there's a small crack in the wall where you can run in a bit. Standing inside the crack with your back against the wall, you shouldn't be in danger off pulling any of the highly annoying packs of adds.

I came upon this rare while exploring, sadly AFTER I had completed the bar for Assault on Veil Anzu. Once the quest has completed you no longer have a squiddy thing on your head, and defeated enemies cannot be consumed.

That means that you must be on the daily quest, not have completed it, and be evolved in relation to the daily quest, in order for the rare's death to count for King of the Monsters.

For the Shadow Hulk, i found only the first kill per day (when it still has the sliver rare border) can count toward the achevement, as it spawns on a different timer from the other quest rares.

Also the Hulk doesnt seem to reset its health pool when out of combat and enjoys killing itself by fighting the other mobs in the cave.

It seems there is a non-rare version of this NPC as well, which most likely does not count for King of the Monsters. Take heed, especially if you already killed the Rare normally today (e.g. to help a friend) as that one will of course display as non-rare for the rest of the day, too.

Arguably one of the most frustrating mobs I've faced as of yet in Draenor as a rogue with horrible gear. For all of you low geared dudes: pop all of your cooldowns, interrupt his stun with your own and pray to the Titans for good fortune when hunting this guy.

Now up to attempt six, still no ~40% drop rate pants. As with any wowhead/wow drop chance, be sure to add a decimal point to the left of the number for the actual drop chance.

Just did this achievement and found the rare Morphed Sentinel..........Sept 19, 2015

Preparation: Go into LFG custom make a raid, set it as raid, do not invite people and don' t have auto invite on. Your doing this to stall the progress on the quest, you can kill mobs, collect loot and even evolve - transform. Once your ready for the rare you need remove yourself from the raid and the progress bar will be active and getting credit on killing the rare counts towards the achieve.

On to doing the achievement: You have to kill all the rares on this list to start a sequence of spawns, so lets say Shadow Hulk is up kill it and in 20 minutes another rare will spawn. Continue this until you get the rare your after and specifically Morphing Sentinel.

Rare up now what? Start clearing the area around the rare so you can evolve and have less mobs up to make this a headache if you can' t kill this rare fast enough with the Glutenous Giant. You can use the Shadow Hulk but requires some traveling from the Mecha Plunderer area and avoiding mobs. I used the Glutenous Giant and killed the rare under 2 of the 3 minutes your evolved.

Another option that works: I did this as a hunter a second time, so using a pet will work.I cleared area until I was about 2 more mobs from evolving and put my pet on the rare, once rare was at 70% I also evolved and used the 4 buttons the Glutenous Giant has to kill the rare. So if your a class with a pet this will work, don' t use a garrison bodyguard.

I joined the website for this specific achievement and rare, as the information on the internet did not help much until I pieced together my theory that worked as I described here. I will continue to help with strategies on situations in Warcraft as they come up for me where current information is not available or can be done differently and efficiently.

What numerous attempts here's what I've learned, I'm hoping it will help you on this portion of the achievement.

- Killing the mobs in the cave and consuming them did NOT result in a transformation.
- Killing Ogres / transforming into the fungal giant guy really only got my butt kicked against the Shadow Hulk rare.

I killed the Goblins closest to the cave entrance to transform into the Shadow Hulk and ran like mad into the cave.

- use Bull Rush, then your Leap ability to get back quickly.
- use Smash to stun him.
- use whatever that first ability is called (default number 1 button) as a filler.

Don't stop believing. You can do it.

I don't know if this is a bug or not, but I can't kill him in morphed form as it takes more than three minutes to kill him and when I am able to re-morph, he regains full health. I then get too much credit for killing mobs and fall out of morph long before I can kill him. Without a group, I see no way to finish the Achievement for this.

I just wanted to add my comments as I have not seen any recent posts on this.

I completed King of the Monsters today with Shadow Hulk and Morphed Sentient. As per the posts on King of the Monsters here is what I did:

1. Got a Lost Veil Anzu Missive, popped it. Went to the zone.
2. Created a Group in H>Dungeons & Raids>Premade Groups>Custom>Start A Group>Raids-Legacy>Name It Anything>List Group. Ensure Auto-accept is UNTICKED (as the little squid on your head leaves and rejoins everytime a player joins your group).
3. Converted it to Raid by right clicking on my Characters Picture.
4. Mounted up and flew low back and forth between where the Morphed Sentient spawns and where the Shadow Hulk spawns for a total of 3 hours. If I found any rare I killed it as it seems only 1 rare will be up at a time and each time a rare is killed there is a 20-25 minute spawn timer between them. So to keep the waiting time down to only 20-25 minutes between rares if one appears kill it to let the next one spawn, although the order they spawn is completely random. I did have 2 Morphed Sentients spawn one after eachother.

5. Morphed Sentient spawned - killed all adds beside it, eat them, transformed, killed Morphed Sentient. This one is very easy to kill regardless of which you get Transformed into.

6. Eventually (after killing all rares in zone and waiting for about 3 hours the Shadow Hulk spawned. I killed some adds near it and ate/consumed 4 of them. Note I did not Transform before attacking Shadow Hulk.
7. Attacked Shadow Hulk in Normal form and brought it down to 25% health. Then I pulled some more adds, killed the adds, stun Shadow Hulk, ate/consumed the add corpses quickly while Shadow Hulk was stunned, killed Shadow Hulk.

Note my Premade Group in Group Finder actually expired due to inactivity while fighting the Shadow Hulk and while I was Transformed. I had a heart attack when the message popped up that my Group was inactive as the Shadow Hulk was at 10% health, the Squid then left my head. Fortunately even without the squid on your head if you are transformed, you stay transformed with or without the squid.

Achievement earned, happy Protection Pally as that one was bugging me for a long time.

As the other 3 Monsters will spawn while you are waiting for Shadow Hulk and Morphed Sentient, this would basically be a good way to do the whole achievement and you may have more luck than I did and get them all in under 3 hours.

I found a different elite mob called shadow hulk and killed him and he dropped nothing. I then put in a ticket and after looking around the cave a bit more found a second Shadow Hulk which was the real deal. He dropped a green staff. I was thoroughly disappointed twice. I edited my ticket hoping they will be kind and drop me a purple stretchy pants.

If you plan to farm this fella for the amazing looking legs, I would suggest you bring a Bodyguard if you have one. While there are far better spots, the squid-things are still an amazing source for bodyguard rep and you can easily farm them down while waiting on his extremly annoying spawn.

I had a lot of trouble with this guy too. This is how it worked for me:

Like others posted here before: First take the missive from your garrison, fly out there and use the group finder to create a custom premade group. Turn that group into a raid so that killing mobs won't count towards the quest progress.

I always had trouble timing the morph. For me it was always totally random. Sometimes I could kill and eat 30 mobs and still would wait for the morph, sometimes it was after around eating 8 to 15, very seldom that it worked after 4 or 5 for me. That's why my plan was to eat around 8 goblins then go in the cave, pull shadow hulk, damage him down, eat a couple more hulks in the cave, morph and finish killing him.

But when I killed a couple mobs in the cave I actually morphed without eating them. It also says on the tooltip of the morph buff "Consume, interact, explore, EVOLVE!". So I guess eating the mobs is just one option to trigger the morph. Anyways, I thought I'd give it a try and I managed to kill him with full health. Make sure to make use of all the abilities. You can stun him too with number 4 (you have to aim at him with your mouse). The little headsuckers kept coming but I think I killed them with the smash ability, I killed like 10-15 of them while I was fighting him. It was pretty close though, around 10 seconds after the fight I went out of morph automatically.
