With Patch 12.0.7, we have the opportunity to obtain the Sleepy Mandrake battle pet while playing in Naigtal, one of the two new zones where we can experience outdoor content on Normal and Heroic world tier. The difficulty tier does not affect the pet's acquisition, so Normal is the preferred option to make the process less painful.

You'll find the Sleepy Mandrake in the Sleeper's Grotto, sleeping on a pile of bones. You can interact, but initially, you'll only see this message:

<The mandrake is swaying in a deep sleep with the occasional snore.>

So, not a pet we can easily pick up. Instead, we have to find a way to wake the sleeping creature. While exploring the zone and defeating enemies, you will probably loot Redcap mushrooms with „...a terrible stench to wake even the dead...“ in their description, and indeed, the interaction on the mandrake changes to feeding options for every Redcap you carry. Overall, you'll need five different Redcaps with this specific description, with 4 coming from clickable objects and 1 being looted from creatures in the zone.
According to Eagleeye098, the feeding of the redcaps doesn't have to happen on one character! If you found the Partially-Digested Redcap with a character that cannot access the Airy Redcap, but you have another character with a proper tool/profession who can, they both can feed their redcaps for your account's overall progress on the pet! With all five redcaps in any of your characters' bags, you have everything required to receive the pet, so it's time to send your characters with redcaps to the Sleeper's Grotto./way #2600 68.25 51.61 Sleepy MandrakeWhen you interact with the Sleepy Mandrake, you will now see up to five <Feed the mandrake the ... Redcap.> options. Interact repeatedly to use all available options, and again after feeding all five different redcaps on your account to see a new option to pot the creature, which will create the Sleepy Mandrake for your new battle pet. While you can access 4 of the required items from the ground, for the Airy Redcap, it is necessary to find a method to lift off into the air in this no-flying zone to get on top of the mushroom tree:

There's a short quest chain starting at Kifaan that will unlock the usage of bouncing mushrooms, aerospores, and a grappling hook to pull yourself between them to reach new heights. (, , and , which are also part of the Prepared for a Showdown achievement). With hotfixes on June 22nd 2026, they finally added enough objects to bounce & grapple to reach the top with ease.
Before that, we needed specific items to get that far up, e.g., I hopped on one of the Ethereals' skiffs nearby, exited above the first mid-size mushroom, and then used the Darkmoon Cannon with a Goblin Glider Kit (or Parasol toy) to shoot me up and glide to the top of the largest mushroom.
Element-Infused Rocket Helmet, Falling Flame, Kinetic Ankle Primers, and Meteor Chip are other options, and someone made it from another specific skiff route with a Dracthyr's Glide.

I'm not aware that a single Redcap would be sufficient, but it's very unlikely, because I fed them from top to bottom, and nothing happened without the Airy Redcap.
(You can only have one Sleepy Mandrake on your account, but some hidden quest flags would prevent getting duplicates anyway.)

Excellent info from Lazey. One suggestion: forget the second-tallest mushroom and stay on the skiff until it passes closer to the tallest mushroom (around /way 89.51, 34.43) then exit the vehicle and immediately launch yourself up over the mushroom by your chosen method. Use whatever slow fall option you have. On my Demon Hunter I had a leisurely float downward. The Airy Redcap becomes visible when you get closer to landing. Got my Sleepy Mandrake today with this strategy, first try. Good luck!

So its worth noting that while the 5 mushrooms are soulbound, progress towards getting this pet seems to be account bound. I had no way of getting the Airy Mushroom on my main character which I had collected the other 4 mushrooms on and turned in. I logged into an engineer alt I had that also happened to be a Demon Hunter and used the Element-Infused Rocket Helmet and the DH wings to get onto the Large Mushroom and acquire the Airy Mushroom. After turning in the Airy Mushroom I was able to acquire the pet. So you don't need to do this all on 1 character.

Got the Airy Redcap on heroic today (no toys needed). Go to 88.81 25.97. There is a bouncy mushroom on the ground. Jump on it and head to the mushroom to the northwest. From there, use the bouncy mushroom to go to the next one northeast a bit where there's another mushroom. Now, make sure the Lighthook Grapple is on your tool bar. Face north. Back up until you hit the mushroom and once airborne you will see 2 green blobs you can use your grapple on. Grapple and hop on each one, but on the second one, face east towards the big mushroom. Use your grapple on a bouncy mushroom to land on the big mushroom. Run to the Airy Redcap on the other side. If you don't make it, float back down and try again. I hope this helps!

Hi all

To Get This Companion You need to collect 5 Redcap and with all of them See Sleepy Mandrake in cave enter /way 67.67 54.30, and speak untill get to Your bag Sleepy Mandrake.

But before 01.07.2026 was very hard to get last Redcap Because was very high and not all people had a high flying tols xD. Now after 01.07.2026 with new update they add more mushrooms that you use to jump :D now is EZ don't need any toys.

Location for all Redcap

1. Partially-Digested Redcap - is drop from Rare Mobs like Swalewing Matriarch or Elite like Fungal Giant.

2. Dusty Redcap - Inside Crypt enter crypt at /way 27.96 49.74, and go /way 22.17 62.57,

3. Highland Redcap - is on top of the Hill /way 29.07 61.85, start moving from 34.17 60.01, and move over.

4. Marshy Redcap - is inside Cave enter from water side /way 75.52 37.81, and pick up /way 71.46 37.22,

5. Airy Redcap - from 01.07.2026 is EZ to get, I start Jumping from /way 89.99 37.36, then i was jumping up using mushrooms and Green orbs ( use extra skill to get to last mushrooms ) when You get to the highest mushroom go to /way 95.14 26.62, and pick up last Airy Redcap

Naw go to Cave enter /way 67.67 54.30, and press one by one all conversation options until it disappears and will show up in Your bag. Now You will get Sleepy Mandrake.

Nestled in his cozy cave, this little mandrake sprout was one of the last. Over time though his favorite mushrooms stopped growing in his cave. So he decided to sleep... waiting for his favorite spores to blow in again.

The location of this NPC is unknown.
