Shout-Out From Pawn
Those of you who use the addon
Pawn
will know that it's a loot-ranking addon, which determines an item's score based on point values you attach to their particular stats—in a similar manner as our own
weight scale
feature, only directly in the game.
Well, Pawn users may have also noticed a subtle change in the addon, just like
PoeticDragon
did this morning. See the image to the right. :)
Hi Pawn guys!

Cataclysm Alpha NOT Starting Tuesday
Several websites have reported today that the F&F alpha test for World of Warcraft: Cataclysm
may
begin this upcoming Tuesday, January 12, 2010. Along with these rumours is a DVD (as seen on the right) that is
supposedly
a copy of the alpha that will be distributed to testers instead of being a digital download to deter people from getting the data easily.
According to sources close to us here at Wowhead, we can confirm that all of these rumours are false and the alpha
will not
be starting Tuesday. Also, the supposed alpha DVD has been confirmed to be fake.
As always, be careful with what you read on the interwebs!

Blizzard Giving Thought to Mandatory Authenticator?
According to
this
recent article over at WoW.com, Blizzard is giving serious consideration to making authenticators mandatory for all accounts.
While I personally think this would be a great idea and could almost eliminate hacking attempts, I still see some problems with it. First there is the entire logistical operation involved with this, even if they provided an authenticator with every copy of the game from now on how would they get it to current customers. They also have a lot of trouble even keeping them in stock currently in the Blizzard Store. One way to combat that would be to make this go into effect during Cataclysm and bundle it with the new expansion and give some kind of grace period before they lock it down. Another issue I foresee happening is a lot of people really just plain dislike having to enter a second "password" that is random every time you login, this is especially bad if you have two accounts that you keep switching between.
Overall I personally welcome our new authenticator overlords when they

Looking Back on 2009... for Wowhead
In keeping with the tradition of the beginning of a new year, there have been a number of posts looking back on 2009, and all the interesting developments both in the world at large, and in our game of choice.
I thought, then, that I would take a moment to look at all the interesting developments here at Wowhead itself! There have been
a ton of changes
to the site here in the last year, and what better time to take stock than a new year?

Once again the
Warcraft Battlecry Mosaic
, last mentioned
here
, has reached a new milestone and this time
two
tiles have been unlocked. The picture count reached

One is an early black and white concept piece of

here
. The other is a "moody" deception of Alliance architecture and boats originally shown at E3 which can be seen
here

There are
11,723

The Crimson Hall Available on January 19
Now that the Plagueworks is open in
Icecrown Citadel
, we know when the next wing will open.
By visiting
Muradin Bronzebeard
on
Deathbringer Saurfang
's platform, you can find out how long until the next wing opens—and according to him the Crimson Hall, which contains the
Blood
Prince
Council
and
Blood-Queen Lana'thel
, opens 2 weeks from today. That puts the release on January 19, 2010!
If Blizzard stays consistent with the last wing that would put the release of The Frostwing Hall and The Frozen Throne, which has
Valithria Dreamwalker
,
Sindragosa
and
The Lich King (Icecrown)
himself, to be released on February 2, 2010—2 weeks after the release of the Crimson Hall.
Edit:
Blue confirmed!
This is correct.
Then the next wing of Icecrown Citadel opens in 2 weeks.

Arena Season 7 Ending Soon
According to a post by Bornakk on the official forums, Arena Season 7 will be ending as early as January 19. When that time comes around it will take one week for Blizzard to calculate who will be eligible for end-of-season rewards, such as
Relentless Gladiator's Frost Wyrm
and season titles.
We are currently planning to end Arena Season 7 as early as January 19. At that point we will go through our normal process to determine who is eligible for the end-of-season rewards. This process should take approximately one week. It's very important for players who feel that they may be eligible for the arena-specific titles and/or Relentless Gladiator’s Frostwyrm to refrain from transferring their character to another realm until after Arena Season 7 ends.
The following Arena Season will not begin for at least one week after the current season ends. During this time between seasons, all rated matches will be turned off and only skirmishes will be available. When Arena Season 8 begins, all team ratings, personal rating, and arena points will be wiped, but matchm

Oculus Loot Improved!
The Oculus
recently had a hotfixed deployed that will make it more attractive for players to stay and finish the dungeon as compared to the usual occurrence I have seen of leaving the second the loading screen lets you.
Once
Ley-Guardian Eregos
is defeated, a loot bag will be provided to each player present. Each bag contains 2 additional
Emblem of Triumph
, a chance at rare gems and a chance at obtaining
Reins of the Blue Drake
. Note that this bag will only drop when you get the dungeon when selected
randomly
with the Dungeon Finder.
Also,
Reins of the Azure Drake
will now have a chance of dropping from both 10- and 25-player
Malygos
.
Read on after the break for the original post.

Looking Back at 2009 and Forward to 2010
Here we are, folks, right before the start of not only a new year but also a new decade. Hopefully, next year will provide us with new opportunities, new inventions, maybe even new resolutions—although, on second thought, I've really yet to meet someone dedicated to carrying out a New Year's resolution—and hopefully more happiness to everyone around the world.
Today we should take some brief time to look back on the year 2009, and take a moment to remember all the changes in our lives. It could be something as simple as getting a car. Or maybe you have a memory from something WoW-related, be it inside or outside the game itself.
What is your best memory of 2009?
Remember, you can include something WoW-related! And
what are you looking forward to when 2010 comes?
I've included a reflection of my own here, as well as one of
Togikagi
's. If you're interested in seeing the reflections, they are immediately after the break. :)

World of Warcraft Magazine 40-Page Preview
The fine folks over at Future US have been working on getting the first volume in the new
World of Warcraft magazine
ready for release. Now it's finally time to see the fruits of that labour!
They've released
40 pages
(out of 148) of the magazine for everyone to read. It contains all kinds of interesting stuff from the table of contents of the full magazine to several pages dedicated to companion pets. Also touched on are stories from the past from early beta of the game, the Zombie Invasion, there is even articles on all three play styles (tanking, DPS and healing), and much more.

If that's enough to make you want to get the magazine itself (I know it is for me!) you can head over to their
official site
and order it for yourself.

Raiding as an Arcane Mage
I've recently started raiding heavily with an Arcane Mage, and I have to say, I'm loving it.
With

New Database Page: World Events!
Here at Wowhead the developers are working hard in order to release the new features you folks have been waiting for, and today we have a new feature on the database to show you all: the World Events page!
Each World Event page is like any other database page. It contains any and all data—i.e. items, achievements, quests, or titles—pertaining to the event (where applicable), and a place to leave comments as well as submitting screenshots. You can also
search
for world events.
In the Quick Facts box, you'll find information on how long the event will be running and a link to Wowhead's guide to the event (usually written by
Miyari
).
The entire World Events page is divided up into four sections for ease of use:
Holidays
,
Recurring Events
, and
PvP Events
.
As we go, we'll be adding articles at the top for the individual world events. Aside from that, the only things missing are
your comments
, so now's your chance to get going! Feel free to also leave any comments about this
