Honestly they should leave stuff like that usable. That way people can use up old stockpiles of materials and also so they are more inclined to make new effects down the line!

Oh now that is going to get axed real quick. Blizz likes everything from the last xpac to be worthless the moment the new one hits.
Obviously this is going to be hotfixed before noon, but I am pretty certain that when I npc'd my jumper cables while leveling they were displayed in red.
