Allow a minimum quality setting for public orders and it will see use.
Personally I see two major failures in the profession revamp. First, the work order system not including an option to select quality for public orders. It’s the sole reason why there aren’t any orders being put out in the system. Second, the overcomplicated nature of the specialization trees and the inability to respec knowledge as well as the limited nature of its acquisition.I also don’t see the point of keeping all higher end crafted items BoP. It was obviously done to encourage the use of the new work order interface but without the option to select quality on public orders no one is using it and it’s causing a great deal of frustration. Something needs to change.
There needs to be:1. History in Public Crafting Orders. See who took what. See what was paid. See the resulting quality.2. In addition to above, a summary page for crafted orders, something that shows the Skill Points contributed, inspiration proc, etc. On this page, allow for additional tips to be paid.3. Faction-wide communication, please.4. A much longer cooldown for public orders for armor professions. We're talking one order every two hours, max of three charges at a time. Maybe even less. Along with the above point, that would force players to talk to each other. "I can do that commission with X skill! I'm tapped on public orders, so pick me for $ and get X*!"To further elaborate on the last one, if you create a risk of taking public orders, prices will naturally come up. Right now, with 20 orders and a chance at resourcefulness, I'm just gonna take every single order I see and hope for some free mats, regardless of price. People aren't even willing to tip 30% materials which is pretty sucky as someone coming out of 50-80% profits on legendary bases, selling a couple a day.
I really do appreciate players giving info and tips. Here's the thing: I was under the impression that herbalism is supposed to be in the middle. I also find it odd since skinning isn't mentioned because that's always been easy to level. Also, I once put 30+ Lustrous Scaled Hides on the AH and got 10,000+ gold. On the other hand, I'm glad that mining hasn't been too bad. I've actually worried about being able to mount while mining because even though I looked up a guide, I forgot which spec. It didn't help that even if I told myself that I would eventually get all of the points, I still can't change them. Of course, it probably wasn't that helpful in hindsight. If you want a complex system in a game, that's fine. You should, however, explain it well in-game instead of just assuming people will just go here. Sure, there are other sources. The point is it shouldn't feel as though extra work is being made for people who didn't even design the game.
I know this is going to do nothing but prove that I'm an actual dingbat, but this new system has me completely confused. I've been playing since vanilla and while I definitely appreciate the overhaul of professions, it feels like they took something that was pretty brainless and turned it into a master study overnight. I feel disconnected from the process of crafting and so I've decided to not even fool with it. The point system is very confusing to me (again, this could totally just be a situation where the PEBKAC lol) while also being not very exciting. I also feel like this kind of system is further increasing the gap between those will little-to-no gold and those who are swimming in it. I paid someone 15K gold to craft a neckpiece for me. I later saw them in-game and they were rocking the longboi. Not that that's problematic by any means, but this was clearly a person who has plenty of wealth and is further increasing that wealth via their access to rare crafting (at least, that's my take on it; maybe I'm wrong but it does seem like those who have a very large pool of resources from which to draw are the ones who are therefore benefitting the most). Finally, as someone who plays on a dead server... and I do mean *dead* (despite the fact that we've been merged with 3 others), it's incredibly hard to find anyone who can complete specific crafts. And the public system feels too risky. I dunno. TL;DR, I'm just not enjoying the new crafting system like I was hoping I would. It's an overly complex system with no explanation in-game. I'll leave it to the big-brained folks to figure it out, hah.
I fell like it's worth mentioning, ( I didn't realize this at first and neither did some guildies) you HAVE to hit the SEARCH button on the public order crafting tab to see any available requests.I'm stuck at 98/100 LW because crafting orders are the only way to level (I don't have alts high enough to request blue prof gear or spark gear)I had to make super expensive toy and armor kits just to get from 70-75 with a green pattern (and it cost 160K in mats) I've managed to snipe a few orders with like no commission just for skillups, but I'm on a low pop server and I'd be surprised if I've even fulfilled 20 orders since launch, never mind hit the daily cap. And 4 of those skill points came from darkmoon faire..........another of those ideas blizz had that looks good on paper, but doesn't work quite so well in game.
I cringe when I see people doing foraging for gold. Imagine running in circles picking up ores and herbs to 'make money'....But for something casual definitely double foraging FTW. Look at all the posts of people spending 20k to go up a point in whatever, others saying they spent 600k to level. And for what? Gold? To make more gold? What do people even do with the gold? With that amount of time and effort just, indeed, pay for a token, and then play the game for fun instead of a second job.I'm double foraging but keeping it as something I do (did) waiting for super rares to spawn and questing. Now that phase is over I'm double foraging going towards WQs which I ignored up to now but I've begun doing to up my ailing reps such as Dragonscale. Flying towards the WQ and while doing it I'm picking what's in my way for a decent ish income that pays the sub and raiding supplies. But to actually go in circles dedicated to picking up herbs? Yikes.
Dual Gatherer (Herbs/Ores) go Elemental/Titan-Touched spec on both professions for max. profit!
In a sense it was doomed to fail. Just like in "real life" you have a handful of people at the top and the rest of the players get the leftovers. You just can't compete as it is right now. Of course as time goes it'll get easier and easier for the average player to catch up but by then the value of said services/resources etc will have dropped significantly. Just look at the token price in US, clearly something is going on here. People are more willing than ever to spend real money to buy tokens to get in-game gold. Eventually this will go in reverse and prices for tokens will go up again, then prices might dip again with the next content patch. It's usually how it goes. However the difference now is how much the wow token has dropped compared to legion/bfa/shadowlands. The mindset from f2p mobile games have really manipulated people into "just spend money to get what you want", buy carries etc. It's not a healthy community by any stretch of the imagination but it is what it is.
Is there an add on that can change the icon or colour of the herb / mine nodes based on it's variant (hard / titan / lush etc) ? I know there are add ons for changing the icon for potential nodes (e.g. Gatherer) but I can't find one for changing icons for what is spawned.
Many people I know find the crafting order system confusing and cumbersome and have just opted out entirely. I have never even seen a public order on my profession page. I personally am not thrilled that pretty much all of the recipes for leveling leatherworking are crazy expensive and/or require sparks of ingenuity. Since we've only gotten three of them, it makes levelling the profession really difficult.
I still think crafting doesnt work too well. On Burning Legion EU you can only make money on gathering professions. Everything else brings loss.
Craft order is the worst system for the "public", so it will never become popular IMO. Because you can't choose who to ask for crafting, but there is a huge gap between a minimally skilled scammer and a great craftsman who spec in the skill and inspiration.I am waiting for the implementation of a The Scrap-o-Matic 2023 and extracts the spark! This should solve the skill up problem.
I’ve made well over a million just doing work orders for folks after advertising in trade chat. Not sure what the problem is. I’m not rich and never have been.
I was a cutting edge crafter and I still am. The issue is, you could make money for roughly a week. I made around 2M in a single golden week, while going easy. For that I had to invest 500k beforehand for recipes, grinded hunts for 10 extra knowledge and snipe every single workorder that gave me either knowledge or skill. Now fishing is more lucrative. The workorder system needs a overhaul.
