Some online services continue to be impacted by a series of DDoS attacks which are resulting in high latency and disconnections. These disruption effects have been felt by a portion of our players, impacting their gaming experience. Bit behind the curve aint ya wowhead?
Hope the sentencing is live streamed.
Thank you for the update.
Not to mention just because someone claims to be behind said attacks doesn't make it so.
sad :-( At least we now know why we were getting dc'd. Thanks for the heads up.
I'm more concerned with the internet playing detective and harassing some innocent person they think is responsible. Already seen several posts/tweets linking to a facebook they claim is the person behind it. :\
Do these losers seriously have nothing better to do with their time? Damn script kiddies
why are we giving this troll the time of day?
On the negative side it is kind of funny watching this unfold.
I don't have anything else to do! WOW is down! ;)
A DDoS is implemented with a botnet, a large number of compromised PCs that failed to stay updated with security patches so they caught a virus and are now centrally controlled by some villain. This is why you need to keep your PC updated and why you need anti-virus software.Fighting a botnet means tracing back through the individual bots (PCs with a virus) to find who's controlling them. That means you have to get permission from the bot owner or the upstream ISP to watch its traffic. It's a tedious process.Sadly, it's illegal for civilians to counterattack a bot and use its vulnerability to force it to update or at least to shut it down. Bots are also routinely used to send spam, making it difficult to identify the spammer and prosecute them where spamming is illegal. (They may be across a border where it's legal.)Some suggestions on how to fight botnets:https://www.cyberscoop.com/csde-international-anti-botnet-guide/
Thank you for the update guys. We appreciate it.
