The active effect of this item lets you jump to a targeted location. The distance is short at first, but increases quite a bit as you progress with Cypher of the First Ones research.

Do NOT sell this quest reward item! It's very helpful to get to those hard to reach treasures in Zereth Mortis, since the item gives you a teleport ability with a radius of about 8m/yards. I'd call it the poor man's venthyr teleport, but it's free and everyone can use it.

Unlike Door of Shadows teleportation, it can also be activated while you are jumping or falling.
Although it has the ability to reduce fall damage passively, it can completely eliminate fall damage by teleporting to the ground during the fall.

The reduction in fall damage with this piece of "Dimensional" Cypher Equipment is great for facing off against Tahkwitz, who brings you up in the air and drops you while you are fully stunned and unable to use slow falling abilities. The Dimensional Translators seems to potentially stack with the Kyrian Mikanikos Soulbind's Resilient Plumage for a total of 40% fall damage reduction in Shadowlands zones.

The teleport part (Dimensional Translators) is amazing for getting to "Elusive" ores and herbs and treasures that are otherwise unreachable if you do not have class/spec abilities such as Heroic Leap, Grappling Hook, Demonic Gateway, etc; or the Venthyr covenant ability, Door of Shadows. It is most similar to Door of Shadows, but has a much shorter range of 10 yds at Cypher Equipment level 1, ilvl 233. As your Cypher Equipment level increases, the distance of this teleport increases, without needing to obtain a new Dimensional item of a higher ilvl. At maximum Cypher Equipment level, it has a range like or almost like Door of Shadows.

However, as an advantage from the Venthyr's Door of Shadows, this ability has no cast time, meaning it can be cast while jumping, falling, using a Goblin Glider Kit, etc. Thus, for platforms that are further away than what the Dimensional Translators can reach, you can chain multiple movement abilities together with the Dimensional Translators.

This ability is present on the following four pieces of Cypher Equipment, one for each armor class:

A valuable piece of equipment to keep regardless of the ilvl.

Was anyone else majorly disappointed to find out, upon equipping these to try them out, that they are not, in fact, a teleport to various places across the Shadowlands?

Activate the dimensional translators to cross a great distance in outdoor Shadowlands zones.
This ability grows more powerful as you research the Cyphers of the First Ones.

I thought this meant that at "Rank 1", you'd be able to teleport to one or two specific or general locations, for example Haven in Zereth Mortis, or just somewhere in Zereth Mortis.
As you research the Cyphers and "rank it up", you would be able to choose from more and more destinations, possibly more specific ones as well. Much like the engineers' Wormhole Generators, only for everyone to use and able to be "refined"/"perfected".

I'm rather upset this is not how they work; the tooltip phrasing seems quite misleading. But I suppose it'll be nice to have a second Door of Shadows to use, instead of having to wait the 60 seconds for it to come off cooldown...

As a Night Fae Warlock I could not use my Demonic Gateway to jump on the shelf to get Schematic: Shelly. I could not manage to place the Gateway so that I could jump. THIS item helped me to get there. Marvellous!
