For Mephistroth, your attempt to infiltrate the Cathedral of Eternal Night is a deeply personal matter. The warlocks among you killed his favored general, Jagganoth, stringing up his corpse and heart in your Order Hall as both a warning and source of power. As for the rest of you, Mephistroth is seeking retribution for your recent brutal attacks on the Broken Shore. The memories are fresh. And revenge is sweet.

Attunement

Once you complete the opening Scenario and first quests on the Broken Shore, you’ll gain access to the new dungeon, Cathedral of Eternal Night. Khadgar will have a quest that will send you into its upper reaches, where you’ll face Mephistroth once more. Venturing into the cathedral isn’t required to progress through the Broken Shore—but if you want another shot at Mephistroth, this is your chance.

You want to interrupt this cast, or you can drag mobs away from the Shadow Wall to remove the effect from them.

Wrathguard InvaderFel Strike

Tanks should face the Wrathguard Invaders away from the group, to avoid the Fel Strike from hitting the group.

Demonic MendingBurning Celerity

This ability effects enemies.

You want to drag enemies out of it, whilst DPS stand within it to deal increased damage. Just ensure that the healer can keep the players within the bubble topped up.

DreadwingShadow Swipe

The tank needs to be careful not to be knocked back into extra trash mobs, or knocked back off of the balcony to their death.

Felblight StalkerDevour Magic

Players can simply move out of the Devour Magic AoE around the Stalkers to avoid the silence effect.

Dul'zak

He casts Shadow Wave towards a random player.

This is a large frontal cone which deals a large amount of damage to anyone caught in its path, whilst also leave purple goo on the ground which deals ticking damage to you.

Players need to keep an eye on what direction he is facing so that they can side step the Shadow Wave during its cast.

Dul'zak is accompanied by 2 Helblaze Felbringers, 2 Felguard Destroyers and a single Wrathguard Invader.

This makes this particular trash pack difficult to deal with, as you will have to deal with multiple trash abilities at the same time as the Shadow Wave from Dul'zak.

This pack is entirely optional, so players can skip this by just continuing along the walkway to the right. However, doing so will cause Dul'zak to run over to the group and engage them.

Fulminating Lasher

They have low health and should be killed off first. Slows, stuns and displacement effects should be used to keep them away from their fixated targets.

Vilebark Walker

They will cast Lumbering Crash which knockbacks nearby players whilst dealing burst AoE damage to the group.

Melee players should move away during the cast to avoid the knockback.

They will also cast Vile Roots, which will place zones underneath 2 ranged players. These zones will then activate stunning players for 6 seconds.

Ranged players should avoid standing within these green zones.

Both of these casts need to be interrupted.

Stranglevine LasherChoking Vines

The effect can be removed by running away from the lasher, however applying CC to the Stranglevine Lasher will interrupt the cast more quickly.

This acts as a pseudo enrage on the fight, as each application of Poisonous Spores will add another stack of ticking damage to the group.

Healers should aim to use their healing cooldowns for later parts of the fight to help counteract the increased incoming damage.

AgronoxTimber Smash

Tanks want to ensure they have a form of active mitigation or damage reduction cooldown up for each of these casts.

AgronoxFulminating Lasher

These lashers will fixate a random player and If they reach their fixated player, they'll cast Floral Fulmination, which causes them to explode and deal a huge amount of damage to any player nearby.

You want to kill the adds before they reach their fixated target.

You can slow the adds, but you cannot stun them.

Choking VinesAgronox

The flowers will grip in one or two players each and place Choking Vines on them which deals ever increasing ticking damage to them until the affected player moves 20 yards away and breaks the chain.

Mythic AgronoxAgronoxSucculent Lasher

This Succulent Lasher places patches of Succulent Secretion on the ground, which deals ticking damage to anyone who stands within it.

The Succulent Lasher should be focused down by the DPS, as long as there are no Fulminating Lashers active, as they take priority.

Use active mitigation on Timber Smash casts to reduce the incoming burst damage.

Tank the boss around his starting area, to ensure that the Fulminating Lashers spawn away from the group

Move away from any Fulminating Lashers that fixate you.

Mythic - Pick up the Succulent Lasher and move out of the Succulent Secretion pools on the ground.

The tank will need additional healing for each Timber Smash

Kite any Fulminating Lashers that fixate you

Save large healing cooldowns for when the Poisonous Spores reach higher stacks.

Players will need spot healing to cover the damage from Choking Vines.

Run 20 yards away from any Choking Vines flowers to remove the debuff.

Kite and Kill off the Fulminating Lashers as soon as possible

Run 20 yards away from any Choking Vines flowers to remove the debuff

Use damage reductions and self healing abilities towards the end of the fight, when the Poisonous Spores reach higher stacks.

Mythic - Focus down the Succelent Lasher to stop Agronox from healing via Nature's Infusion.

Thrashbite the ScornfulNotable Trash MobsFel Bolt

The imps are likely to start their Fel Bolt casts in unison, and it is possible that multiple bolts will hit a single player and kill them.

To counter this, you should use AoE stuns, silences and displacement effects to disrupt these casts as you cleave them all down.

Wyrmtongue Scavenger

Silence Tomes which will silence any nearby player.

Frost Tomes which will encase a player in ice, stunning them until the ice block around them is destroyed, or until the scavengers die.

Arcane Tomes which will deal a burst of damage to any nearby player.

Players need to turn your back to him to avoid both the damage and the stun.

Gazerax

You cannot avoid this damage, healers just need to use AoE healing effects to keep the group topped up.

GazeraxFel Glare

These patches will explode shortly after appearing, dealing damage to anyone within the patch, so players need to ensure they move out of them

The tank and any melee dps need to make sure they move away 15 yards to ensure they are not one shot by this ability

Ranged players should try and stay 15 yards away from Thrashbite as much as possible, to reduce the amount of movement that they need to do.

Heave Cudgel

You need to make sure that you are within the "inner circle" of the room, as otherwise you will be hit by the Cudgel and die.

Scornful Gaze

Anyone caught in the path of this Scornful Charge will take lethal damage.

The player who is targeted with Scornful Gaze needs to position one of the bookcases between themselves and Thrashbite

This will cause Thrashbite to crash into the bookcase and become stunned for a short period of time.

Everyone else in the Party need to make sure that they are not in the way of the charge, as otherwise they will die.

As you only have 4 bookcases, you can only counter the Scornful Gaze 4 times before players will start dying to the ability.

This acts as a pseudo enrage, as Thrashbite needs to die before you run out of bookcases.

Mythic Thrashbite

The Satirical Book will cast Stifling Satire, which silences everyone for 5 seconds.

The Fictional book will cast Fettering Fiction, slow everyone in the group.
This can occur around the same time as a Pulverizing Cudgel, which can lead to nearby players getting hit by the ability.

The slow can be dispelled by a healer, as well as removed through other spells that remove movement speed reductions.

Beguiling Biography

You can only break the Mind Control by damaging down the controlled player to 30% health.

Role Responsibilities

Move 15 yards away from Thrashbite when Pulverizing Cudgel is cast.

Tank the boss within the inner ring of the room, to avoid unnecessary movement when Heave Cudgel is cast

Avoid standing in the path of Thrashbite during Scornful Gaze

Mythic - Kill all books that spawn from broken bookcases before they can cast their special abilities.

DomatraxNotable Trash Mobs

The spiders apply Sinister Fangs to the tank, which deals ticking damage.

This poison debuff should be dispelled if possible, as debuff can stack and start to deal significant damage to the tank.

When the Necrotic Spiderlings die, they leave patches of fel on the ground, which deals ticking damage to anyone who stands within it.

Nal'ashaFelstrider EnforcerFelstrider OrbcasterFelblaze Orb

The Orbcaster casts Felblaze Orb. This spawns an orb which will travel slowly in a straight line, dealing a large amount of ticking damage to anyone in its path.

Players need to side step this ability to avoid taking the damage. Stunning the Orbcaster during the cast will also stop the orb from spawning temporarily.

Burning Strands

This will place a debuff on any players within 5 yards of the tank, which will root them, reduce their haste by 25%, and dealing ticking damage to them over 5 seconds.

The tank wants to ensure that nobody is nearby, so that they are the only player to take the debuff.

Felstrider Enforcer

The Felstrider Enforcers cast Serrated Cleave at the tank, which deals damage and applies a hard hitting dot to all players in front of the Enforcer.

The tank needs to face these away from the group to prevent anyone else taking the dot.

Nal'ashaVenom StormNal'ashaNal'asha

She will then cast Venom Storm, which is a frontal cone that deals a large amount of damage.

Players need to identify where Nal'asha is, and then quickly move out of the incoming Venom Storm.

When she vanishes, she will leave behind a pool of webbing at her initial location.

This pool reduces movement speed and haste by 50%, so players should avoid standing within it as much as possible.

Spider Call

The tank should pick up these spiders as players cleave them down.

Standing within the Aegis grants a 90% damage reduction, but drains its energy

Standing within the Aegis will reduce a players damage taken by 90%, whilst reducing a players damage and healing done by 75%.

Standing within the Aegis will also cause its energy to slowly deplete. If the Aegis runs out of energy, players can no longer gain its effects.

DomatraxChaotic EnergyChaotic Energy

The entire group should ensure that they move within the aegis before the cast ends. This will grant them the damage reduction necessary to survive the ability.

As soon as the cast is over, players should leave the Aegis. This will allow players to output unimpeded damage and healing, whilst reserving as much of the Aegis's energy as possible.

Tanks are able to side step the ability once the cast begins, which prevents them from taking excess damage.

If the Felsoul Cleave hits the Aegis, the Aegis will lose 50% of its energy.

Players should remain spread atleast 4 yards apart from one another whilst the Imps are active, to avoid splashing damage onto one another.

DPS should focus on killing the Fel Portal Guardians before killing the Imps, as this will substantially reduce the overall amount of imps you need to kill.

The Felguards need to be picked up by the tank, whilst the DPS nuke down the Portal Guardians.

Once the Guardians have died, DPS should then kill off all remaining felguards.

Searing Rend

This will deal damage to all players 10 yards in front of them, whilst leaving fire on the ground.

The tank wants to group these up and move each time a Searing Rend is cast, to avoid standing in any of the fire left by the ability.

Domatrax

Tanks and healers should save damage reduction and single target healing cooldowns to help combat the increased attack speed and damage the boss gains during this time.

Mythic Domatrax:DomatraxFel Portal GuardianFel Portal Guardian

This Searing Overlord needs to be picked up by the tank and nuked down quickly, as it is dealing high ticking damage to the group through its Searing Presence.

To avoid spawning a Searing Overlord, both Fel Portal Guardians should be focused down by the DPS as soon as possible.

After both Guardians are dead, DPS want to finish off any remaining Felblaze Imps before switching back to the boss.

DomatraxFel Portal Guardian

The Mistresses have to be dealt with in much the same way.

Have the tank pick them up whilst the DPS kill of the Portal Guardians.

Once the Guardians have died, DPS should then kill off all remaining Mistresses.

Shadow Sweep

Tanks and melee DPS need to be careful, as multiple Mistresses can cast this ability one after another, dealing a large amount of damage to you.

Role Responsibilities

Face Domatrax towards the walls of the encounter area for his Felsoul Cleave

Sidestep out of the Felsoul Cleave as soon as the cast begins.

Enter the Aegis or use a large magic damage reduction when the Chaotic Energy is cast. After the cast has finished, leave the Aegis as to not drain excess energy from it

Remain spread at least 4 yards whilst Hellblaze Imps are active and interrupt their Fel Blasts as much as possible

Tank Domatrax next to Fel Portal Guardians to allow DPS to cleave onto them

Pick up all Hellblaze Felguards, and move each time they cast Searing Rend

Use large damage reductions for when Domatrax gains Frenzy at 25% health

Mythic - Pick up all Hellblaze Mistresses, and use damage reduction cooldowns to survive the Shadow Sweep casts

Enter the Aegis when the Chaotic Energy is cast. After the cast has finished, leave the Aegis as to not drain excess energy from it

Remain spread at least 4 yards whilst Hellblaze Imps are active, and be prepared to spot heal players targeted by Fel Blast

The tank will need additional healing whilst Hellblaze Felguards/Hellblaze Mistresses are active, and when Domatrax gains Frenzy at 25% health

Mythic - If a Searing Overfiend is summoned, be prepared to use cooldowns to cover the incoming group wide damage

Enter the Aegis when the Chaotic Energy is cast. After the cast has finished, leave the Aegis as to not drain excess energy from it

Remain spread at least 4 yards whilst Hellblaze Imps are active and interrupt their Fel Blasts as much as possible

Always kill off the Fel Portal Guardians as soon as possible, to reduce the amount of adds that spawn, and (mythic) to stop Searing Overfiend from being summoned

After the Fel Portal Guardians have died, kill off any remaining adds

Whilst fighting the Dreadwings, players will be bombarded by other Dreadwings that fly though one window, cast Fel Blaze, then fly out the another.

You can avoid these by simply moving out of the swirly circles on the ground.

Once you kill off the Dreadwings, Mephistroth will appear.

Note: Mephistroth will not engage the group immediately, instead you either have to get close to him or attack him directly.Mephistroth Tips & StrategyMephistrothMephistrothAegis of AggramarIf a non tank accidentally picks up the Aegis, that player can right click the buff you gain. Doing so will drop the Aegis on the ground, allowing the tank to pick it up. Phase 1: MephistrothMephistrothCarrion Swarm

This is a frontal cone directed at the tank which will deal a burst of damage and leave shadow puddles on the ground.

The tank should face him towards the wall so that as little of the room is filled up with goo as possible.

Dark Solitude

This will deal splash damage to everyone in the group and apply a dot to them.

You want to make sure that you are spread 5-10 yards apart from one another so you don't take extra damage and dot.

Demonic UpheavalDemonic Upheaval

This is a 4 debuff applied to two non-tank targets with a 4 second duration, that will cause a large circle to spawn on the ground after it expires.

Shortly after the circle has spawned, a giant pillar will erupt out of the ground, dealing damage to the entire group and a huge amount of damage to anyone within the circle.

You want to move towards the edge of the room with the debuff so that the pillar will spawn away from the group.

If a Shadow Blast reaches Illidan, it will temporarily interrupt his energy regeneration, extending the phase.

Shadow Blast orbs disappear and deal a large amount of damage when they come into contact with a player, however using the Aegis makes you immune to this damage.

The tank with the Aegis needs to activate it, and stand ontop of Illidan. They then need to rotate around the catch any of the incoming Shadow Blast orbs.

Creeping ShadowsExpel ShadowsMephistrothMephistrothMephistroth Mythic:DreadwingFel Blaze

You can avoid these by simply moving out of the swirly circles on the ground.

These Dreadwings will continue these bombardments throughout the rest of the fight.

Role Responsibilities

Pick up the Aegis at the begining of the fight

Face Mephistroth towards the walls of the encounter area and use damage reductions for his Carrion Swarm cast

Spread 5-10 yards away from any other player, to avoid splashing damage onto anyone else when Dark Solitude is cast

Activate the Aegis by using the Extra Action Button.

Stand on top of Illidan and rotate on the spot to have the Aegis soak all incoming Shadow Blasts from the Shadow of Mephistroph adds around the room

Be prepared to use personal cooldowns towards the end of phase 2, to help combat the damage from the Creeping Shadows

Mythic - Avoid the Fel Blaze impact locations from the fly-by Dreadwings

After phase two ends, repeat the fight until Mephistroth dies.

Spread 5-10 yards away from any other player, to avoid splashing damage onto anyone else when Dark Solitude is cast

Move to the edge of the room when debuffed with Demonic Upheaval. Allow it to time out and then return to the middle of the room

Be prepared to heal up the group from the Dark Solitude ticking damage, and the burst damage from the Demonic Upheaval

Avoid soaking any incoming Shadow Blasts that originate from the Shadow of Mephistroth adds around the room

Keep the group topped up from the Creeping Shadows damage, and be prepared to use healing cooldowns towards the end of the phase, when the damage is at its highest

Mythic - Avoid the Fel Blaze impact locations from the fly-by Dreadwings

After phase two ends, repeat the fight until Mephistroth dies

Spread 5-10 yards away from any other player, to avoid splashing damage onto anyone else when Dark Solitude is cast

Move to the edge of the room when debuffed with Demonic Upheaval. Allow it to time out and then return to the middle of the room

Avoid soaking any incoming Shadow Blasts that originate from the Shadow of Mephistroth adds around the room

Kill off as many Shadow of Mephistroth adds to reduce the amount of incoming Shadow Blasts

Be prepared to use damage reduction or self healing cooldowns towards the end of the phase when the Creeping Shadows damage is at its highest

had a glitch on my first run through were in phase 2 of Mephistroth (Heroic) the orbs were going through the shield and hitting Illidan. Worked just fine on our 2nd try

This dungeon is really fun.
Altho it scales somewhat horribly with the mythic+ progressions at higher keystones. We did it at +11 at around ilvl900 with the affixes, rageing, volcanic and tyrranical.
Problems occured at first and last boss. The tree guys spores and his huge smash attacks quickly ramped up to unhealable levels. We eventually had to go out and make it a 2 healer, 2 dps and a tank setup, making the fight a bit longer but at least we could keep tank alive while doing this. Togheter we had a 2,1 milion hp/s just to get trought the encounter.

Mephistroth however was in a league of his own having the stacking debuff reaching 700k / s even if executed properly(no ords hitting illidan). With one healer we managed trought one of the darkness phases but once more we had too swap to a two healer setup just to handle unavoidable dmg mechanics. The total dmg taken by the group from his stacking debuff were about 60 milion / person. Which is quite hard to heal trought even for seasoned healers.

So if you want to fully complete this dungeon at higher difficulties at least with tyrranical Id highly recommend to bring a decent dps/heal hybrid and make him leave the dungeon and respec before the tree boss and mephistroth. But he must also leave to respec once more because the other two bosses are more or less a dps race.

The Hellblaze Mistresses spawned during the Domatrax fight on Mythic and Mythic+ difficulties can be very dangerous due to their knockback. If they are brought close to the shield when the group are using it to hide from chaotic energy, they may knock the whole group out of the shield and lead to a wipe.

They spawn from the portals that open when the boss is at 50% health, so the group may wish to hold back on DPS so that the portals open immediately after chaotic energy has been used. That gives the maximum possible time to deal with the portals and to kill the Hellblaze Mistresses before needing to use the shield.

If your group has them available various CC can be used to keep the mistresses away from the group when using the shield. They can be stunned, slowed, rooted, and knocked back. As a restoration druid I found Ursol's Vortex useful for this purpose. Just place it where the tank is holding the mobs, and they'll be kept there long enough for the group to safely hide from Domatrax's chaotic energy attack.

Alternatively the tank can hold them away from the shield and use strong defensive cooldowns to survive chaotic energy without the shield's protection. This method requires the least coordination with the rest of the group, so may be preferable in PUGs. However if the tyrannical modifier is active many tanks would be at serious risk of death.

So I guess it's good to come read these guides AFTER my party wiped 5 times before we all rage-quit the instance group. :/

These guides really are great for a player like me who's been playing WoW for 10 years like it's a single-player game and is only recently getting brave enough to do more dungeons and raids.
