When I did it a few days ago, there were 3 friendly water elementals that spawned as I fought him. This was at lvl 20, and with their help the quest was very easy to complete.

If you need the coords they are at 25,41. As the last guy said it isn't to hard because water elements come out and help you.

Hehe, I sprayed the barrel, Tal showed up, frost nova'd me out of melee range, and then the elementals showed up and killed him for me. All I did was throw a few shocks.

25,41 is correct coords! You will see a tent with lots of barrels beside it. Respawn for barrels are 3 minutes.... just in case you die on your first try ;)

Soloed as lvl 20 shaman, jewelcrafter.
-Spray the barrel
-Set searing totem
-Activate a healing statue
-Cast Gift of the Naaru
-Keep healing yourself while the water elementals kill Tel'athion

I don't understand what the problem was..

I got there on my level 22 shaman, sprayed the barrels, and he spawned. He's a non elite level (23?) and the two water elementals almost immediately kill him; just throw in an auto attack and an earth shock and it's over in a few seconds.

easyest quest ever i got him down to 50% in like 2 hits (non crits) and then water dudes came and killed but

i died the first time *embarresed* but figured out that i could just lay a nova totem and spray the barrel. as soon as he pops up, the nova drops and takes off half his health. then the elementals kill him in a snap.

solo as shaman lvl20
before start the event, just prepare with stoneskin totem and fire nova totem, start the event, and after fire nova totem explodes put the searing totem. 2 water elementals will come to help, and thats it. To help and get sure of success, use use the gift of naaru on yourself.

20 shaman, easy as pie. The elementals did most of the work. And don't bother earthshocking, he cant be interrupted.

Just be prepared. Two Water Spirits will help you, but I still had all the aggro. Wasn't careful (healed, but not enough!) and he killed me at the same time the spirits killed him. Ran back and looted.

He's spell hits hard and aren't interuptable, just spam heal urself and throw in some shocks =)
i did it with 500hp and 1200mana as a 22 shammy... had to heal myself quite alot.. had around 400 mana when he was dead...
Hint, Lesser healing wave =P

maybe im bad, but this guy hit me for 138 fire blast followed by 3 uninterruptable arcane missles for 65 each, I was dead in about 7 seconds..anyway, make sure you heal alot and dont underestimate him like I did :)

I just did this solo at level 20 and it was really quite hard. Yes you get some water elementals to help, but this guy's arcane missiles hit really, really hard. They took me from 100% health to somewhere in the region of 5% health in one go and you can't interrupt it with earth shock..

In the end I managed it by setting up stone claw and searing totem before starting the encounter and then healing through the arcane missiles while the elementals deal with Tel'athion.

I suspect that the difference between those who had it easy and those who had it hard as aggro - lets the elementals keep aggro and youll win easy

This quest to kill Tel took me forever to complete because when i arrived at the camp there were no barrels beside the tent, so i waited and waited and the barrels still didnt respawn

I had him spawn as an Elite the first time I tried it. His damage was similar to his normal mode but he had a lot more HP.

I was able to interrupt his frost bolts, but I would advise against that, as they do much less damage than his arcane missiles. If he can't cast frost, he's more likely to missile.

1. Get Stoneskin Totem up.
2. Get Fire Nova Totem up.
3. Activate the Barrels.
4. Set Searing Totem after the Fire Nova Totem explodes.
5. Interrupt his Spells with Earth Shock.
6. Heal yourself while Earth Shock is on CD.

Well, I tried the method of interupting his spells but all 3 earthshocs i tried failed to interupt him, and I died. So i decided to try something different and it was to me, very successfull.

I dropped the stoneclaw and fire nova totems and triggered the barrels, but rather than stand back i rushed him. He hit me with a single 62 dmg frostbolt and from that point on only used his staff in melee. The ele's and myself crushed him, the fight took less then 15 seconds, and i didnt even need to use healing wave. Just a lesser was an overheal, after the fight was completed.

I was lvl 21 for this fight.

I don't see the big deal.
I went there, didn't set up a totem, and I won within 3 secs. It must of been the fact I was a level 21 twink at the time.

The barrels respawn in about 3 minutes.

Be sure to watch your HP. When he hits, he hits hard. I suggest dropping a Stoneskin Totem in advance, and using your Gift of the Naaru soon as the battle starts.

Careful when you kill Tel'athion afterwards i had the water elementals turn around and attack me so i suggest just looting Tel'athion on auto loot then hitting ghost wolf and run out of there as fast as possible but just go over the nearby mountainso you don't aggro the foul water elementals

OK i just did this quest and he is not lev 20 HE IS lev 23 and he killed me 2 times and he is easy to find. My quest log says i can do it but if u are lev 20 u cant even tho the water guys that come to help u out. so be carful!

I did this quest at a later level, 26, and the guy still hits like a truck. I was dual boxing a mage and my shaman at the time, and frost nova'd him right back. A few missiles and my mage was at half health.

Would just like to add a note about this quest. Just completed it, @ lvl 20, not geared, only items worn were quest rewards from the islands. 740hp 825mana, only used searing totem, and wiped him clean, while holding agro, with more than 250hp left after the fight. Easier than taking candy from a baby. All these ppl that say they are having a problems fighting this guy, wow is all i can say. Not trying to bad mouth anyone, but yall need to practice more with your toons. Just my experiences, im sure everyone plays different, but this last fight for your water totem, is so easily soloable @ lvl 20.

I found it a little difficult but looking back on it, I was making stupid mistakes. The first time was worst because I made it a dogfight... and his arcane missiles killed me off very quickly.

I finally managed to complete it on my third attempt. Dropped stoneclaw and ran away after starting the event.
Tel'Athion ran away from his start point and focused on the totem. He didn't arcane it to hell so the friendlies were able to spawn before the attack on me began.

He started attacking, hit a lot of frostbolts and I just kept using heal when I was down to 50%. Eventually he ran out of mana and he charged toward me; the friendlies still attacking him. Melee'd a few times, he threw one more frostbolt. One heal and then melee'd it out.

As long as you have an idea of what to expect, its not all that bad.

I just finished the quest. He was no biggie but the two elementals came to help him, not me. However it's soloable at lvl 20.

This guy is so easy its not funny. Soloed as a 20 with like 80% of my life left he got off two spells before he died half him at half life before the elemental even spawned.

Not sure why every1 keeps saying how easy this fight is? Maybe a little ego stroking?

While I don't find it particularly hard (Gotta stroke my own ego, plus getting the water from Ashenvale is much harder) its certainly harder than any of the quest mob fights that come before it.

Not sure that putting down a stoneskin helps either as I'm sure Arcane Missiles ignore armor. (Pls some1 correct me if I'm wrong).

My tactics are like mentioned above, get stuck in and dps him down with melee and earth shocks b4 he has a chance to throw anything significant at u and start 'Gift of the Naaru' almost as soon as the fight starts. Putting down a Searing Totem helps but it should only have time to get off 1-2 shots b4 you've killed him.

I usually complete this quest @ 20 with only quest gear and normal drops

Fairly easy as a 22 enhancement shaman with quest reward gear. Just remember to put down a strength of earth totem (magic ignores armor), a fire nova or searing totem, and be ready to shock him quickly. I suspect that he doesn't always use arcane missiles, as I ran into no issues with damage. Maybe just finish him off quickly and hope he doesn't start with a missile barrage?

EDIT: Given the difference in patch notes between the other testimonies and my own I suspect Blizzard may have nerfed him a bit. I don't recall him casting any missles at all, and the elementals would have killed him on their own without me.

EDIT 2: Given the post below me, I guess I just got lucky that he only frostbolted me and didn't hit me with missiles. If you have issues, you could just try again and again until he doesn't fire missiles I guess...

Had a little bit of difficulty with this quest. Level 20 elemental spec so far and its a bit. He used arcane missles a bunch which were a pain to deal with. Gift of the Naaru is a big thing, make sure you have it available. Use both the Fire Nova then Searing Totem to help get his health down quick. The elemental helped, but died really quickly from the missles. He eventually starts to melee, I was able to get him down faster then.

Hes at a little camp what has barrels that spark (like lootable corpses). "Activate the barrels and he will appear. If having hard time killing him try this: 1. place a Stoneclaw Totem. 2. Then place a Searing totem 3. Activate the Barrel 4. Move away fast. And the last 5. Give him the best ya got. - If this all didnt help try to Zerg him-

As a lvl 24, I just took him on alone for a few seconds (about as hard as Matis) and as soon as the elementals arrived, I healed and just sat back and let them take on the brunt of the attack.

I just ran up and spammed shocks. He died right as the elementals came out to help. Only got to shock 3 times during the whole fight. Level 21.

He never cast anything by the way, he just meleed me for pathetic hits.

Whilst your fighting him all you have to really do is get him down to half health then 2 water elementals spawn and help you kill him .

Possible at level 20 although it can be difficult, luckily the graveyard is very close by and the barrels you need to mess with respawn quickly. It took me two attempts to complete this as a level 20 enhancement in your typical quest greens.

He's level 23 and as many others have said utterly immune to interrupts so don't even bother trying. He'll often frost nova you right at the start of the fight as well as fling frostbolts and a rather painful arcane missiles attack that he likes to use damn near all the time. If you are in the habit of trading in irradiated crystals for power crystals then a stamina boosting one is also a good idea here.

When you start the fight he'll appear and then 2 (friendly) water elementals shortly after, make sure you hit him before the elementals do otherwise it can sometimes prevent you from looting his corpse and you'll need to wait for the barrels to spawn again.

As for fighting him be sure to place down your totems just before the fight starts stoneclaw and either fire totem are good for this (used searing myself). Strength of earth is also a viable choice. Don't bother with Stoneskin as the armour bonus is useless against magic.

Use lightning shield and try to keep in his face at all times and melee him. Depending on your luck he may not even attack you at all and will focus on your totems or the water elementals. If not be sure to pop gift of the naru early and don't be afraid to spam heals since the fight will be pretty short either way win or lose.

And the quest is gone entirely now. I came here looking for info as I was trying to do the exploration achievement.

I have determined where the corruption is coming from. It is the by-product of some demented research and you're going to put an end to it!

Just to the southwest of the Foul Pool is a small camp. There you will find the 'research' of Tel'athion the Impure. This is where he produces the filth that has been seeping into the island's water.

Use the pure water you obtained from Ashenvale to destroy his cache of barrels. That will be sure to bring him out.

We will have an end to this!
