You can obtain this quest at 40, but the dragons you have to defeat are level 50 elites. The area where you fight them is also filled with a good number of other 40+ elite dragons. Bring a group prepared for a fight similar to a boss at the end of an instance and you'll do fine.

Also don't wait too long to finish this one, as the rewards are great for a character in the early 40s, not so great for early 50s. Note that if you don't intend to use any of the rewards, you should grab the chestplate, as it sells for nearly 2.5 gold.

The actual Seal of Earth you need to go to after you collect the runestones is at 82,49.

To make this quest much easier, back away after you summon the two dragons. If you get aggro, run north to lose them. After they go back, anyone can easily pull each dragon by themselves even though they are very close to each other.

Whew just managed to solo this as a 47 Affliction Lock. As the previous poster said, activate the pillar and run off to leash the 2 50 elite dragons. After that you can pull them one at a time without them aggroing each other. They both hit (melee) the same for about 300 on cloth.

Hematus (easier of the two):
For some reason this guy seemed to move a bit slower than Blacklash, and as such was much easier to kite. He also stops and casts Flame Buffet every once in a while a good distance away from you, again making him cake to kite. Flame Buffet hits for about 80 damage and adds a stacking debuff increasing fire damage taken by the same.

Blacklash (harder!):
Blacklash seems to move slightly faster than Hematus and his Flame Breath ability is only cast at a much closer range for 500 fire damage. This means he's much more likely to have caught up into melee range before even casting it. If he can chain daze you, you're pretty much going to die. I managed to survive 2 dazes by using a healthstone after the first, then healing pot and deathcoil after the 2nd.

Since both are immune to CC and slows (at least Curse of Exhaustion), you're going to need to run in as straight of a line as you can and just refresh dots and use instant casts to keep them from leashing. Quite literally I was halfway between their spawn point and Kargath when I killed Blacklash, and I only stopped because I had 2 mobs blocking my path in front of me. I then draintanked Blacklash from 15% to dead spamming my lucky Nightfall procs.

Soloed as a 56 demonology warlock. If you have your infernal spell, dragons are immune to fire and so is the infernal, not to mention it stuns the dragon. Send Infernal in, dot the dragon up. Rinse and repeat until dead. Pull the next one, same thing.

I just soloed this as a level 48 Beast Master Hunter.

Here is what I did:

1)- Cleared all mobs in the area around the stone.
2)- Summoned.

2).1) Dismiss your pet , since when the 2 dragons spawn you will have agro , even if you FD the agro will go on the pet and he/she will die . That way you save yourself some time.

After dismiss , summon and FD.

2).2). Hematus is really the more easy one of the two dragons. I

killed him with simple "pet tank , I dps" tactic. The only thing is that you can pull out (pressing passive on the pet bar) the pet so it goes out of his range , when the dragon is casting. Use Mend Pet to keep your pet alive.

2).3). Blacklash ... Now he is really a pain. He hits harder and mooves faster.I started with same tactic , thinking it will work as well... But Blacklash insert's way more dmg and even if you have Mend Pet all the time healing the pet , it will die again. In short here is what i changed:

Started with a pull with Serpent String , kiting him for full duration.Then pet started to tank , renewed Serpent String and put Mend Pet on.At this dragon you should AWAYS pull out your pet when he is casting , that way you save some seconds in which your pet get's healed without recieving damage. After he is done casting use Rapid Fire + Beast Within. (Note IF you have Imp.Mend pet tallent + Endurance training that might be just enough to get the pet strong enough to tank him full time. However I didn't have them)

When he got on 10% he killed my pet and I was almost oom , I was out of kiting space as well (some nasty respawns got on) he rushed me and landed 3 hits on me, but as you know when mobs get under 10% they get really slow , so I ran in his diraction (because behind me there were respawned elites) ,he landed the 3 hits (I almost died) , then I just put Aspect of the Cheetah and killed him.

Note 1: I doubt that you can solo this with any other class then Hunter and Warlock , so you better get a grp with you when you do that quest.

Note 2: If you aren't BM spec , forget doing solo this quest

Note 3: Aways watch your mana pool. I had 2k mana and after a few failed tries I found out that my mana is enough only for mend pet +serpent string's and one Beast Within + Rapid Fire

Note 4: He has a very long despawn time so you can take your time trying on him. However the mobs around the stone respawn faster and can easely wipe you.

Note 5: I'll say again ... Imp. mend pet + Endurance training will really help a lot in this fight

As an update. The mobs around the stone are no longer elites. They are lvl 43-45 normal mobs. The small whelpings do almost no damage, however the larger dragons do a far amount of physicl dmg and a large amount of fire dmg (about 600 fire dmg per breath which they do often). The two dragons that are summoned however remain to be lvl 50 elites.

Meaning it's easier to get to the summon, but that event in itself remains to be very hard.

I did this quest when i was lvl 41 with a lvl 40 and a lvl 46. it went nice. Me (priest) and paladin healed the warrior and in 5 mins we had killed one of the dragons. Then we did the same thing with the other dragon.
But now they're non elites i think ^^

Yeah, this is still a hard quest to solo. Level 55 (yes five-five) arms warrior, and I was just barely able to solo it. They both hit hard, and while they do a bit of fire damage, the majority is melee. However, they are immune to fear and hamstring, which means no bandaging. (you can get a tick in if you're lucky) For me I tried it once, died, and then got lucky with crit strings on my second attempt. Had to use major healing pots both times and still only had 15% health left when I killed each.

My suggestion for melee, would be to buff up as much as possible. If you're an arms warrior, try and get that cleansed songflower buff in Felwood, since it gives a boatload of +crit. Otherwise, don't attempt to do this without a healer of some sort.

This quest is very difficult if you don't know where to find the pillars. The diamond pillar is north, the amythist pillar is south, and the opal pillar is SOUTHWEST (hardest one for me to find).

2.4 this quest was very simple as neither dragon is elite as mentioned above. At level 50 I was also able to weave through the elite dragons guarding the spire without getting aggro.

As a level 50 retribution paladin I turned in the quest and ran away as fast as I could so the dragons wouldn't aggro. I pulled with Judgement of the Crusader and only Hematus was pulled (even though I had to get very close to cast Judgement. If you have a ranged weapon/spell I recommend pulling with that so you only get one). He went down quick, cleansed the only Flame buffet when he cast it.

Healed up and ran in to fight Blacklash. He hit a bit harder and his Flame Breath did a decent chunk of damage, around 300-400 I think, but went down just as simple easy as his partner.

The key is pulling them separately, I imagine they buff each other with Hematus' Flame Buffet coupled with Blacklash's Flame Breath.

This was really easy as a Shadow Priest lvl50, after patch 2.4.

When I summoned them it seemed I only aggroed ONE (Blacklash), and he went down pretty quick.

Nothing special really... I was really scared when I read the comments here, but it was a piece of cake.

Solo'd it as a 48 Retri pally.
When I used the stone I got aggro from em both, so I was sure I would die, although both dragons have very few HP so I didn't even have to use Lay on Hands to stay alive.

Lots of confusing info on this one because of recent changes:
(1) the dragons Blacklash and Hematus are level 50 non-elites;
(2) although they appear simultaneously you can fight them one at a time - they were not aggressive when I fought them
(2) the Seal of the Earth is guarded by level 43-45 elite dragons;
(3) Solo'd easily as a 56 Hunter. The elite dragon guards ignored me I guess because of the level difference.
(4) A decent 6800 XP and 350 rep with Ogrimmar even at this level

L51 Ret Pally, solo'd. Not as difficult as previously mentioned. Some things to note.....
The Elite Guards leave you alone unless you mess with them, I walked right by one, and he didn't blink. The lil flame spitters are more annoying by far.

Agreed, both dragons are easily pulled for a simple one on one fight. (I only healed once over both fights, wearing sad L40's greens, cleansed once as well).

Exp was great, even with my level...8500 exp and 350 rep with Orgimmar.

It's really not that difficult anymore, I was able to solo this today as a 46 combat spec rogue with average gear.

I summoned the two dragons and vanished to drop combat so I could pull them one at a time. I pulled Blacklash first, he didn't hit particularly hard but he has a flame breath that does about 500 damage. I used evasion and popped a pot after the second flame breath. Hematus was a simple spank and tank, even though I waited for me evasion to be back up I didn't need it as I was never below 50% health.

If you are soloing this I would highly recommend that you pull Blacklash first as Hematus casts a flame buffet debuff that increases fire damage taken.

49 Destro Lock here, and I was pretty amazed at how easy it was.

After you get the three stones from each pillar, you hit the main pillar and then back up as far as you can go. Takes a few seconds for the dragons to spawn, so you should have time.

Then get just close enough to hit one with ranged shot and back up again. Each dragon went down in less than 30 seconds for me.

The most difficult part of this challenge are the elites AROUND this area, that you need to weave in and out of to avoid.

Just to point out, after summoning if you die you will have time to run back to try again.. however, if you wait too long and they despawn, you'll notice you'll have to collect the runestones all over again.

I was not able to do this quest solo as a decently well-geared 43 combat rogue, which made me sad because I wanted the chest piece. I was able to take down the elites well enough to carve out a little corner of safety over 15-20 minutes, and I ran in and summoned the dragons, ran back, pulled one - the harder one, Backlash. I was able to survive a fair bit but he just outlevelled me too much, I couldn't hit him like at all. ><. Decided it wasn't worth trying again yet, I'll just level a little first.

Just solo'd this one as a 45 rogue. went in didn't even worry about the elites. Summoned the dragons they attacked vanished backed away lured one not even sure which one killed it. Called the other over killed it and left.

oh on note i used deadly pioson and a gr agility potion, gr defense elixir.

I just did this quest today, at level 52, since I figured the dragons were elite. They ARE NOT elite anymore. The lower levels dragons in the area are elite, but the two dragons that spawn when you touch the final spire are just normal level 50. They spawn together, but you can run away and come back and pull them solo. So, if you've been putting this quest off, but you can handle 1 level 50 kill at a time, go for it. Great reward for the time you can do it.

The mobs are no more elites, both of them are level 50. For fire mages it is kind of hard to solo-clear the area, because all mobs there are fire immune, but at level 48, when I tried to do the quest, was able to not aggro the other mobs around, and was able to solo it. You can kill them seperately, some frostbolt, and both are dead.

Completing quest was revarded by 8500 experience and 350 reputation with orgrimmar

Just completed this as a pair of 41s, Demon Warlock (me) and Prot Pally. We probably could have spec'ed better for the fight, but that's just what we were at the time. We failed only our first attempt, and blew the soulstone on that fight.

We did Blacklash first. Of course he resisted probably 9 out of 10 of my casts, but I just kept trying. I stuck with Curse of Agony and tried an occasional Corruption and Drain Life. I tapped, bandages, healthstoned, even used my Orb of Dar'orahil. I am wearing 2 pieces of shadoweave and the 38 Defilers boots, but nothing else spectacular. I used the Succubus for the added damage. Pally tanked, and healed, and had his bubble ready for an emergency, but (on the second attempt) didn't even need it. (Well, and he'd already used it, first attempt.)

It felt close, but we got Blacklash down, and moved on to Hematus. I had much fewer resists. Either Blacklash has higher resists or I got much luckier. There was nothing very difficult at all about that fight, we just used the same tactic.

Both fights together took about 10 minutes.

Two manned this quest as MM Hunter (43) and Shadow Priest (42)
They did NOT attack directly after being summoned.
Priest Healed pet, I DPSed and Feigned, if I got aggro and Feign was on CD, I would just take it like a man. The Flame Buffet was nasty though, hitting me for 700.

Adding, we did not kill any of the surrounding elites and managed too kill them both without pulling any, but judging by how fast I could get down a few percentages of HP, they wouldn't really be a problem anyway.

Easy quest for me and the SP.

Just finished this one as a 49 feral druid. Elites are easy to clean one by one, once I summoned the two non-elite 50s only one aggroed, so I had time to drink up and heal after the first one, but it could've been done with barkskin+heals had they both aggroed at the same time. They have a flame breath thing that hits for 500. Very easy and a decent leather chest piece as quest reward for me as a feral druid too. 8.5k XP.

soloed at level 44 mm/bm hunter. cleared one 44 elite dragon. if you are able to do that, the fight against the level 50 shouldn't be that difficult. at such a low level, each of the two 50s were resisting 75% of my serpent stings and arcane shots so sticking with auto shots and scorpid sting was the best plan of attack. my pet aggroed one of the dragons after i put in the runestones even tho i started running as soon as i did. went ahead and fought him. no problem.

I don't know if it was luck, but I easily soloed both of them by re-applying power word: shield and spamming mind flay. I died a few times earlier, but I found that they did not resist mind flay as much as my other spells. (44 spriest)

Easy as a 43 feral druid. The elite mobs were harder than hematus and backlash. Just clear a path to de-aggro once you've summoned then pull one at a time. Easy 8500 xp and the leather chestpiece is nice.

Solo'd it as a 48 Warlock - the trick was to clear the elite mobs first. I dismissed my pet, soulstoned and summoned (as an earlier hunter poster suggested doing (the pet thing) ), but was able to outrun the 2 dragons so that they leashed back to the crystal.

The elite mobs repop fast, so you have to be careful where you stand when you pull each dragon - but they were far easier than the mobs surrounding them, as other posters said. I pulled way up on the side of the hill to stay away from repops.

8500 xp and 350 rep with Org.

as you can see now, with a previous patch the two elite lvl 50 were replaced by non-elites. It makes the quest easier to solo.

Just did this quest today with lvl 43 full prot. warrior. I just used shield block , then revenge ,heroic strike( because of the glyph of revenge) and thunder clapped a lot. Shield wall was a big help Unfortunatelly the 2 quest dragons were immune to stun, so it was kinda tricky. The good part was that u can pull one by one. Still a difficult job.

I soloed this 46 Affiliction lock. It was almost too easy.I drain-tanked all guardians around that area and use same threatment to Blacklash and Hematus. If you choose way to clean the guardians,make sure you do it fast because they repop quite fast. I cleaned area off those guardian and they start to repop again from the other side of the area. But they dont agro easily,so if you have one or two in the edge of area,there's nothing to worry about if you pull Blacklash and Hematus in the other direction. They both attacked to me advance but I used one healthstone and superior healing potion just to be sure that i dont die in last 'breaths'. Combination which I find good was; Pet attack - Siphon life - Curse of agony - Corruption - Drain life,and put dot's again when they wear off. doh :)

Just solo'd as a lvl 43 sub rogue. Pritty hard fight becuase of their level. I would suggest using an attack which has a low cast/rage/energy cost so that you can actually get some attacks in.

Soloed as level 47 Frost Mage. Nuked the harder of the dragon's whilst enduring the attack from the other. Managed to escape the other one and then returned later to finish him off. I didn't have to clear any elite mobs in the area.

just solo as Paladin lvl 45 Ret, my weapon was to make 4 of damage, i killed with only my spell, judgements, exorcism and retribution aura.
to cure i use lay on hands, lifeblood, divine protection and seal of light.
Thats all u need to defeat them.
Note: dont use concetration if you have elites in same place

Just soloed as a lvl 44 enhance shammy w/ most heirloom items ( 2x maces, chest, shoulders). everything in that area, including the elites are easy to clear. The elite dragons that are in the area will only aggro if you are relatively close to them.

Use the strategies posted above and have some form of healing with you and you should be fine.

REP= 350 w/ Org.

This quest is kinda hard to understand so i did some research and can give u the answer:

Step 1,2,3: Go to these pillars and use the item
Pillar of Diamond: 84, 33
Pillar of Amethyst: 81, 64
Pillar of Opal: 72, 67

Step 4: Face 2 bosses, solo-able at 55+ with skill
Seal of the Earth: 81, 50

As of today :P Ret pally lvl 42 solo'd it full heirloom gear and gear gotten from dungeons I got away when they spawned and came back and solo tanked each one seperately without having to touch the adds just moved them to the wall and burned them down :) Was alot of fun.

Just thought I'd mention that to get to the last pillar you have to pass through a canyon full of 45 elite Dragonkin. This is also the location, right in the center, where you have to place the stones to summon the 2 dragons. The coords are 81, 50.

Soloed this quest at lvl 44 on my rogue. You simply must pull each drakes with some kind of ranged attack ( i just used my bow ) and use your CD's.

I have no clue what is going on, went in with another guy for healing and killed both easily enough, MAJOR problem I found was neither dragon would drop the items needed for the quest. Anyone else have this issue with them?

But did it strike anyone else as odd that these vicious drakes, which were "not to be trifled with," had half the manliness of the nearby elites? Why the hell did these guys get the names?

Just soloed as a 45 feral druid.

Yes, I died because one of the elites an alliance had killed rezzed back and attacked me while I was fighting the two 50's.

The 45 elites were tough and required healing.

But! I returned and the the two 50's were still out there so I pulled each individually and killed them very easily.

9350 XP.

Moral of the story, the two dragons will attack you together when you first summon them, but even if you die, hurry back and you can attack them individually. Just watch out for the elites that you killed before rezzing back.

I easily soloed this with a level 48 retribution paladin. After reading the comments here I almost waited. It was ridiculously easy. I used my Fire Resistance Aura to start. I aggro'd both Blacklash and Hematus at the same time. Didn't get a chance to run away. I hit Blacklash first with Judgement of Light, then consecration, then Judgement of Light again, etc. Then when his health was low enough hit him with Hammer of Wrath. With Hematus I hit consecration again (his health was already compromised by the first consecration) then Judgment of Light once. Hammer of Wrath one more time and done. I never had to heal myself. Never dropped below 50% health or mana.

I remember when this was actually hard and you needed at least one more person to help, if not two to help, depending on class. However, that hasn't been the case since patch 2.4 (25 March 2008).

Before the fight: the elites guarding the center summoning stone have 5k health and are actually much longer fights. The respawn times of the guardians is ridiculously low like 2mins.

Most recently I did this from the perspective of level 45 BM hunter with a Tenacity bear pet (3k health, 4k armor):

You need some form of aggro dump or kite reset after you summon, if you cannot start the fight immediately on summon and against both drakes. Hunter's can Disengage then Feign Death.
Blacklash and Hematus only have about 2k health.
Hematus uses Flame Buffet which not only does damage but also increases fire damage taken. But it actually melees about 6x times harder than with the dot.
Blacklash has Flame Breath which hurts a lot and makes up approx. 60% of its attack. It also melees but noticeably less so than Hematus.
Even though both drakes spawn at the same time and appear to not move and stay right next to each other, it is possible to pull them individually. I used Concussive Shot for this.
With a full trash respawn, it seems the only safe place to do a pull from was the east-most point of the map with your back against the mountain. I made my pet Stay a few yards in front of me, turned off auto-Growl, used Concussive Shot to pull the drake into the range of my pet then hit Growl, gave my pet a a few seconds for a threat lead then started to pew pew.

So, clearly this is an aggro/survival fight at level if you're solo. You do not need high damage to kill this, or even another person, you just need to use all the tools at your disposal to ensure that you do not pull both drakes together because of the debuff from Hematus. Then, just survive the incoming damage.

Tips:

if you have some form of Fire Resistance, you may be able to ignore Blacklash's Flame Breath and due to it's weaker melee, just stand still and pew pew it fast.
However, unless you're a plate wearer and probably also well geared, I recommend you kite/evade/"stunlock" Hematus.
for the above reasons and short trash respawn, its probably best to kill Blacklash first, then clear one or two respawns on your kiting path then go back and kill Hematus. Of course, you can always put in a non-kiting attempt without clearing the trash, just to see what happens. :)
if you're highly geared, i.e. in full heirlooms or blues for this level, you'll probably be able to burst them down in any class (maybe both of them if you're a paladin or pet class). So, this (red/orange) quest may seem very trivial when it actually isn't completely even now for a brand new player.

In terms of XP, as level 45 with total level XP requirement of 96,300, I was awarded 8.5k XP for this quest which was marked as Red. That's, almost 10% for a quest faster than some collection quests! Awesome XP, especially if you also had 20% heirlooms which would make it 10.2K XP.

Use the Sign of the Earth to activate the Pillars of Diamond, Opal, and Amethyst and obtain the Runestones.

Place the runestones in the Seal of the Earth to free Blacklash and Hematus.

Slay them and return Blacklash's Bindings, the Chains of Hematus, and the Sign of the Earth to Gorn.

The Seal of the Earth is held by three runestones, held in the Pillars of Diamond, Opal, and Amethyst in Lethlor Ravine. Using the Sign of the Earth, you will be able to remove the runestones and unlock the Seal of the Earth.

Be wary though, <name>, the black drakes Blacklash and Hematus are not to be trifled with. See them dead and return their bindings to me.

To reach the ravine, travel to the far eastern part of the Badlands. Be careful though, for the ravine is home to countless drakes.
