The quest used to be bugged so you had to kill Mercutio last. This has been fixed. Kill him first, get your hammer, and get out.

OK, this is extremely difficult to solo as a rogue, but I just did it as a 59 rogue. I am combat spec with a 16.57% chance to crit (not sure if that will make sense once BC comes along, but anyway...) it took me a few tries to figure out how to do it... first thing is make sure you have major healing potion or two.

First click the mound of dirt next to the gravestone. The mobs walk in instead of spawning right away so immediately stealth. Next, if you wait for them to get to the grave they start to mill about, which makes it a bit hard to position yourself, so distract them before they get to the grave. Cheap shot Mercutio and immediately use evasion. This should keep you alive for most of the fight. once evasion wears off, blind one of the graverobbers to try and lessen the DPS intake. Also watch out for your health as you'll need that health pot eventually... I was close to dying so once mercutio fell I Vanished. His body didn't disappear or anything, so I waited a few seconds for a bit of health to come back. Once I had some health I looted the corpse real quick and sprinted away.

You do NOT have to kill Mercutio last in order to complete this quest. Take him down and loot the body as it hits the ground.

Just pulled it off today, got the hammer then took it hard from the rest of his buddies.

Just did it as a 56 frost mage. Just time your cool downs and you can do it. And yes, you have to kill him last to loot the hammer.

There is no need to kill him last.

Just did it on my 59 rogue killed him first, looted him and received Taelen's Hammer from him - the 3 cronies were still alive.

But this only worked if i did not CC one of them first. If i sapped one of them at all then i couldn't loot the hammer no matter in what order they died.

Now this may apply to other forms of CC but it certainly applies to the sapping of the target. I just spent a good hour testing this out, and at least in my case this is what occured.

I just used Mechanical Yeti and he took the damage long enough for me to tear Mercutio down loot the hammer and vanish.

I tried this as a lvl 56 warlock. Died with succy and vw, infernal did it quite easy. Just summon your infernal to their heads, DoT the main guy, drain life, i had instant howl of terror which helped me to escape.

You can see an NPC named Taelon in Old Hillsbrad Foothills instance, in one of the houses of Southshore. He wields this toy hammer.

I did NOT kill any other npcs other than the named. Focused on named, looted, and ran for my life.

I think this quest has probably changed, I dunno why else there would be so much disagreement.

57 Frost Mage. Died twice.

The mobs hit *hard*. Try to use water elemental's Freeze ability to pull most of the aggro of the mobs. Pray for crits on the named as they seem very rare on him.

Just soloed this as a 56 ret pally. Had to use BoP to heal to full, and had to use lay on hands.

Just a note, I killed Mercutio FIRST and still got the hammer.

56 prot pally. Toughed it out, killed them all. Blessing of sanctuary, kept holy shield up, judge and seal light on main target. Had to bubble once (and used bandage) and two (uninterrupted) holy light's. Ended with near half HP and no mana. Not pretty, but still had LOH and pots left.

Extremely poorly designed quest, someone at Blizzard didn't use their head properly. Quest is yellow at level 55, not group-marked, and still calls for fighting four enemies level 55-57 at once.

Did it with ease, 57 frost mage. Right after clicking the mound and waiting the bar thru, immediatly move back and jump over the fence near you. If you are far enough the mobs will not aggro you and you can start with your own opener. I used my water elemental's freeze and frost nova to dps down mercutio. I could've ran after that and looted when they de-aggro'd but I just killed the rest.

Did it as a 58 Shadow Priest.
Shield up.. wait a few seconds and unleash hell on the named dwarf. Fear the others and keep burning the guy. Shield up again.
Eventually, fear again if you can.
He should be dead by then. Looted him.. no problem.

Quest is possible to solo but you have to use everything at your disposal to get it done. I did it as a 59 Fire Mage, cleared the area around the gravestone and enough around me so that I could do some kiting. After you click on the gravestone, head North (based on your minimap) just far enough to avoid aggro. Use Combustion and hit Mercutio with Pyroblast but as it is casting, target one of the adds and get ready to sheep. Immediately following the Pyroblast, click your sheep button and retarget Mercutio. By the time sheep cast, the other guys should be on top of you, use Dragon's Breath and then Blast Wave to give you some room, blink away and used whatever you can to kill Mercutio. If you want you can stick around to kill the other 3 adds or just run off until you're out of combat and go back to loot your hammer. Make sure you have a health pot or Healthstone ready because you might have to use one and/or both if you have them. The way I did it pretty much relayed on getting crits on Mercutio so that Ignite would help bring him down.

That's what I did to do this quest but other then that good luck and happy hunting!

JUst solo'ed as a 55 fire mage, it wasn't that hard, jus had to watch out when they came near me, cause they hit for alot. I just combustion on, pyro, fireball, a fast scorch, then DB, bs, blink away a scorch and a fire blast. still had my frost nova then to lock them in place to run away.

Just solo'ed as a 55 prot pally. super easy. just kept seal of light on mercutio, when he died, switched to next mob and kept going till they all died. I used one pot, and ended up at 1/2 hp and mana.

Solo'd as a 54(yes, 54) frost mage! I read here before about that you don't need to kill him last so I summoned water elemental and nuked him hard. After he was dead Ilooted and ran, used healthpot and kept on running until I left combat and took mount to go to the quest giver.

Ok this seems beyond bugged. It seems like if you kill him near the grave everything is fine and you can loot him before you kill anything else. If you pull him away his body just disapears when he dies. It might have something to do with the vicinity to the grave but I'm not sure.

Easy Peasy for me.. 56 fury specced warrior.. Just recklessness + deatwish. Then 1 Bloodthirst and 1 Hearoic strike and he's dead.. Looted and ran away. Peace of cake (:

DO NOT use vanish after killing mercutio without looting him first, I did this and his body poofed.

If you are a Priest this is fairly easy.

1. Clear the 2 mobs near the grave and the fence.
2. Touch the grave. (Remember this is only an activation mechanism there is no loot! )
3. When the timer completes turn around and jump over the fence at the southern hill or run a bit north so thet you ar out of aggro range.
( If you stand at the grave Mercutio and his adds will come from the left side of the building. )

Now instead of raw power just use Mind Control, in this you have 2 choices, you can
either MC Mercutio to take down his life, when i first tried this his adds managed to kill
him so no loot for me, you might be able to keep him alive by running around tho.
Second choice is to MS one of his adds wich will only put Mercutio back like 500hp
but the MC:ed add will die, one add less seemed to matter alot for me.

When MC breaks, bubble up and MB-MF-Fear-MB-MF or whatever you like.
As said in the above posts, shift-loot Mercutio as soon as he is down, when you die they all de-spawn.
If you fail there is no cooldown on the grave-activation so just try again at once, the respawn rate of the other
mobs in the graveyard if fairly short. Also, graveyard is just a one minute run away, no marathon if you die.

Rogue57 .. spec Subtlety
- Open grave
- as soon robers appear Distract, but toonly Mercutio stay there
- sap one of robers when they reach grave (even if distract stop working M will stay there)
- Attack M : premeditation, cheap shot, hemo... as 2 robers reach you Evasion and blind one, back to M, S&D and nuke him. When evasion going to end, Preparation and Evasion again.. nuke him down, loot, sprint :) ...

Notes :
- I didn't have to use one potion... i didnt have one potion =P. But for safety reason get one if you can.
- When escaping (after succes or not) hold Q or E .. not W or they will daze you and kill
- Graveyard is near so dont fear to die.. lots of satisfaction after soloing it

I managed to solo this with my 57 combat rogue. Ok , i had to vanish away from the last 2 adds but i still killed the main guy and got the hammer :)

As a Druid, I managed to solo this quest by moonfire kiting him to and then around the nearby PvP tower. Start off with Starfire, then Moonfire, then travel form away from him... then wait for the Moonfire DoT to be up and hit him again with it, you should be able to do so before he leashes. Make sure not to just spam moonfire unless you're in caster gear / balance spec... you'll go oom before he dies and then you're pretty much screwed, as engaging his group in melee will result in swift death.

Just did this as a lvl 55 hunter and was very easy!

Here is how I did it.

1. Kill all the guys around the area 1st
2. Get Mercutio and his crew to spawn.
3. Lay a Frost Trap
4. Shoot them, with arcane shot and serpent sting
5. Head north to the path and kit them along the path
6. Feign death when needed and let pet tank
7. Lay another frost trap
8. Do step 4 again till he is dead,loot, then feign death again.

Oh and if your not sure how to kite here is a link on how to do it =)

Oh and I also got lucky and got there to find black lotus... so there spawn in that area too.

i did it as a 56 frost mage... just put ice barrier on... clicked on the pile of dirt beside the tomb... pulled out my elemental... made him attack mercutio so he'll get the pull... and i just runned in circles.... frost nova his adds and attack with frostbolt whenever it was possible... keep ice barrier and frost nova in mind... after you kill mercutio just put ice barrier... loot the corpse and run for your life...

I did this fairly easily with a 57 fire mage. Dont worry bout sheeping because the mobs get right on you and you could use the time to cast again while you have them frozen after you cast your pyro/fireball whatever on mercutio. I popped him once with pyro, froze mobs, popped off a fireball, then fireblast blastwave then hes dead..... I blinked away then waited for mobs and froze again, then just ran to mercutio and looted the hammer and i was off. Note: You can just run away and reattempt if u dont see it heading your way. U will need a potion. Coords above are right

Gave up trying to solo this as a feral druid (57). I'd put a few HoTs, cat form, then load him up with bleeds and switch to bear to try and wear him down. The adds however, just chew you up.

Even in bearform I was taking 85x3 (per add) + 130 (from merc.) = 385 per swing
In catform i was taking 130x3+180 = 570 per swing

stats:
cat: 2.7k health, 1.5k armor, 23%crit, 630ap
bear: 3.5k health, 5.2k armor, 283def, 22%dodge

Imho, this quest is alot of work and alot of dying for 6K xp.

Not easy, lvl 56 combat rogue. Here is how i did it... Sap one add, cheap shot Mercutio and blind another add. Evasion, blade furry and adrenaline rush.. do as much damage as you can to Mercutio then use a major healing potion and kill him. Vanish. Heal yourself ASAP, go stealth and loot Mercutio. Sprint and run away. Mercutio's body will disappear in a few.. so try to be as fast as you can.

I've managed to kill him finally, has a druid, after dieing 3 times

open the grave and go back so you dont get aggro, start with starfire, and then moonfire, travel form, when the moonfire dot reachs the last 2 or 3 secs cast moonfire again and travel form again, use inervte to regain mana, I used a mana potion too, when he died i just loot his body and let the adds kill me, done...

This was not easy to solo as a resto Shaman at 55, but here is how I did it.

Started by clearing out all the trolls around the grave, and those along the fence and in the trees behind it. Earth shield up and dropped an earthbind totem behind the fence. Opened the grave and let the guys spawn, then jumped over the fence and stood behind the totem.
Let them stop at the grave then pulled Mercutio with a lightning bolt, then used natures swiftness to cast another one isntantly. Then I ran around dropping earthbinds whenever the cooldown was up and using frost shock to slow him down (since it is off DRs again). Took about 4 tries sometimes I would get a troll or get gouged and beaten down. If you are a resto Shaman at level 55 I would recommend just getting some help to avoid the repair bill.

-Used 1 major healing potion.

Hope this helps anyone, was a very annoying quest.

It *is* possible as a feral druid. (was 57 at the time)

My sequence (you should only attack Mercutio): Open grave. Back up so you don't aggro them right away. Cast Regrowth, followed by Rejuvenation. Switch to bear form. Faerie Fire, Demoralizing Roar then swich it up between Mangle and Maul. You can also use Frenzied Regeneration when it's warranted. When you're around 40-50%, cast Barkskin. Heal yourself with Healing Touch, then follow it up with Regrowth and Rejuvenation. (Use a healing potion if you need to, they *might* kill you before you get the first heal off) Switch back to Bear Form. Mangle/Maul until Mercutio's dead. Shift-click his body so you auto-loot, go into Travel Form, run away with his kid's little toy warhammer.

Okay folks,

No one cares if you can solo it anymore, it's obvious they nerffed it and it should be easily soloable by anyone 58+. Sorry to be blunt, but theres way too many redundant points here.

Something I haven't seen anyone say is this:
Zaeldarr the Outcast quest mob is located inside the lower level of the crypt. (http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=6021) from LHC.
You can also pick up the Hameya's Plea quest (http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=6024)

Looks like VW is the way to go for locks. Even if you have you have taken the talent path of having a Felguard minion, he hits hard but not hard enough (even @ lvl 59) to survive long enough for you to loot the item. VW in, focus yours and his attacks on the mark.

Did as a lvl 56 Resto Druid.

Spawned him and went kitty form stealth... Moonfire Kited down all the way down the road... grabbed the hammer.

Ended up dying in the end.

Took a mana pot and innervate.

Distract the group, cheap shot Mercutio, evasion, adrenaaline rush, dps dps dps, potted around 20%, Mercutio dies, loot the hammer, vanish.

Level 55 arcane mage -> open grave, walk back towards hill, fire ball, fire ball, fireblast, POM fireball and kite back into the hills. Fireblast when the cooldown is up. Kite group away from Mercutio's body, frost nova, blink back in, loot!

One of the guys resisted my frost nova, but I was able to loot the hammer before dying.

If you're a hunter and one of then hits you, Feign Death until they all aggro your pet, then run away and DON'T STOP!

The other dwarves that are with mercutio are more an annoyance than anything. if you can take them out of the fight in some way and burn down Mercutio with a vengeance, you should be golden.

Just handled on my 57 Shadow Priest: VT, SW:P, VE, Fear bomb, mind blast, flay, shield, rinse, repeat. easy stuffs.

After Mercutio died, I just shielded and ran off. You can go back and kill the dwarves after they leash back to the dirt mound (which I did, because they deserve to die), or just wait until they despawn, grab the hammer, and make Fordring all teary eyed.

soloed as a 58 feral druid (terrible gear, all quest rewards no AH etc). Wait until they get to the grave, standing outside of the fence for easy running access. Root merc, regrowth/rejuv and go bear form and start killing the grave robbers. If root breaks before you have done decent dmg, run. Otherwise barkskin + reroot merc before he gets to you, heal/innervate. I only had to root merc three times (once without barkskin, but there were only 2 robbers left). When that root broke, I just tanked both and killed the last robber, shifted out and healed, etc.

Ended the fight with close to full mana, no pots used. Had to run on 1st attempt because of early root break.

55 enh shaman. keep a bait totem in front towards where they spawn, then put the earthbind behind it so they will destroy your bait and leave the earthbind alone. then keep a frost shock mercutio after hes almost out of the earthbind and run out of there all the way until your earthbind is up again, pop it and keep running, then frost shock mercutio again to make sure he wont despawn. by now the adds will have despawned and its only you and mercutio, pop all cds, use all your mana and profit

Soloed as a 55 Spriest. The fight isn't that hard at all if you 1. are a priest, and 2. think it through. I MC'd Mercutio and that his annoying little friends get him within 10% health, Mind Blasted him, Pyschic Screamed his adds away, grabbed that hammer, and ran my $%# off. Really, MC makes everything easier when it comes to quest bosses with adds.

Soloed this quest as a well equipped lvl 57 hunter. I let my pet tank and take all the aggro when killing Mercuito. When he dies, the mobs come after you, simply feign death and chose one to focus your dps on... mend pet, major healing potion, feign death, and your clear! easy as cake!

Just soloed on a 58 Fire spec mage. It took a few tries, but once I got the pattern down it worked. I targeted Mercutio from a safe distance and used , , . By that point, the mobs had all reached me, so I did , , , , then and another finished him off. I had auto loot set, so I right-clicked and ran for my life.

Just did this quest this morning on my 55 hunter. The name of the game is kiting. Now, I did this with a serpent because of the ranged dot. What I did, was clear all the mobs leading from the lake side to the grave, and activated the quest. Used my pet to pull using followed by a quick succession of shots and a and went to work. It is important to constantly renew the DoTs on Mercutio and to keep at least 10 yards ahead. If you can spare it, turn around and shoot him with an arcane shot. When you run out of path, run around a small hill and U-turn it. Keep doing this until he dies, auto loot, and feign ^^.

This is physically impossible to solo as a Paladin. Attempted it around five times, got my ass kicked to hell and ended up simply abandoning it.

With the 3.02 patch, must have become much easier. Soloed with a 56 prot warrior, used fear right at the start and Last Stand once closer to the end. All guys dead, Mercutio first.

Soloed this as a 54 prot warrior, without having to fear, or loot + die. Single target dps with a rotation of shield slam, revenge, and concussion blow, and use thunder clap whenever it's up. Also keep demo shout on all the mobs. Use your cool downs strategically, and you'll be all right.

This is good, but hard quest to do when 57 or lower rogue

This is little to do list for rogues to complete it

1) Go to 24,8:79,7

2) "Use" the grave and immediately use stealth.

3) Use distract to make them look away.

4) Sap one of higher lvl buddies.

5) Premeditation and Ambush on Mercutio.

6) Blind second buddy.

7) Attack Mercutio before blind fades.

8) Ghostly strike and Evasion.

9) Keep attacking Mercutio and when you have low hp use potion.

10) After his death DO NOT VANISH. Loot the body and then vanish.

11) Return to Tirion.

Quite easily solable as a 56 ret pally with average- to below-average gear. When Mercutio came running, I used Repentance on him. That gave me just enough time to finish off the three 54s, and then I could deal with him alone.
A general tip for all healers: Heal before you need to. That way, by the time you're done casting, they've hit you for enough that you don't overheal. I healed twice during the encounter, and I didn't need any pots.

Done as 55 enhancement shaman, suicide style. Start up with 2x lightningbolt, stormstrike, eartshock, lava lash, lesser healing wave-spam untill full health, set stoneclaw totem down, stormstrike, earthshock, lava lash, loot.

Took a few tries, I managed to get him down on first one but didn't know that he despawns. >.<

This was the 3rd try, or so.

Warlock, destro, 57, had my Voidwalker out, and finally managed to solo it when I remembered to use Howl of Terror after sending the VW in and DoT-ing Mercutio. Followed him to finish him off, finally got him once the other mobs ran back to me. I looted, then Howl of Terror again, then tried to run - a zombie ended up finishing me off, though.

Soulstone was on cooldown because I'd already tried and died, and I didn't feel like waiting a half hour doing nothing. =)

Soloed as lvl 55 elemental shaman. I died a few times before getting the quest done, but in the end I got the hammer and survived.

After I'd clicked the grave, I run back to get some distance and dropped a stoneclaw totem between me and the mobs. Then lightning bolt and flame shock to Mercutio from max range. After the stoneclaw totem was gone, I dropped earthbind totem to get some distance again, healed and continued to cast spells at Mercutio. Repeated the whole thing, looted the hammer and ran.

Soloed first time as a lv54 Holy paladin, Using concentration aura and BoW, I just spammed Flash of Light while judging and holy shocking him and his adds down. Walked away with 1/4 mana, some runecloth and a toy hammer for my efforts. This quest must have been nerfed as Tsoky suggested.

The first such item is a toy that I gave to him on his 7th birthday. It was his most cherished possession: A miniature war hammer; an exact replica of my very own.

After I was banished for treason, his mother told him that I had died. He was taken to my false grave at the Undercroft, where he buried the hammer along with my memory - forever.

You must venture to the Undercroft and recover Taelan's hammer.
