58, 67 -- Just north of Tarren Mill (Look for the two tents)

It appears you can do this quest two different ways. The first is to go kill any and all Syndicate mobs you find to the north. The missive will randomly drop off one of them.

The other way is to go talk to Henchman Valik at 57, 69. He will offer you the missive in exchange for some Southshore Stout. You likely don't have any on you, but on the cliff south of Valik you should see a Syndicate mob named Drunken Footpad. Kill him and he will drop the stout. Take it back to Valik and he'll give you the missive. Easy to do if you don't trust the drop rate (and I couldn't blame you).

dropped after killing the first mob. Camp is right north of TM, not in alterac.

lol i went to go do the Varik quest and got the missive while trying to do his quest :D
after you turn in the quest, the guy becomes an aggressive mob but he doesn't drop anything -.-

58,65 in Alterac, just north of TM as stated. I hung around the outer area and killed the guards, got it off a thief on my 3rd kill.

Simple Quest, Just go to the Inkeeper in Tarren Mill and buy (1 Southshore Stout) from him, then run north to 57.69 where you will find Valik, Talk to him and give him the stout in exchange for the Missive, all you need to watch for is a gap in the sydicate patrols and your home free, no need to kill a single toon. Simplicity Itself :) If by chance you should aggro Valik by mistake it's not a problem, just kill the surrounding mobs as they drop the Missive too.

i went to 58, 65 and the missive dropped off the very first human i killed at that camp. its so close to TM i'm suprised the run off water from their piss doesn't flood TM. EASY EASY EASY

The drunken footpad is actually NORTH of Valik at 57,67 or so. Had the yellow ! over Valik's head for me.

If he is hostile to you, kill him and he will be fixed next time he respawns.

For those still looking for the Footpads (whom drop the Missive) or Valik, both are in "Sofera's Naze," in Northern Hillsbrad. Be careful, as the Footpads have an extreme aggro radius.

lol, here I thought that I couldn't be bothered buying the booze, and I needed the XP, so I was going to grind the quest out and it dropped off the fourth mob I killed O_O

To be eligible for this chain, you need to complete "The Rescue" from him, a level 22 quest that involves Durnholde Keep.

When i was on my mage doing this quest i was looking for Henchman and decided to clear a lil before getting to him...well when i was clearing the 2nd guy i killed dropped the letter...so im thinking that the drop rate has been boosted since patch 2.3...well i guess it has or i just got really lucky...not sure tho.

Strange quest.....I came there and the first guard drop the missive!I came here before and the Valik was hostile.Now he was not....he gave me the quest and I've took it but I still had the other missive.....

This is in Alterac Mountains. Head north of TM and then when you get to post, head left up the hill, and stay to the left. You will find them in Sofera's Naze. Killed 2 people and got the letter on the second drop. Really simple.

Just completed this quest a few mins ago. When I got up to the area, Valik was hostile, but didn't attack me. I decided to kill him anyways. About 5 mins later, he respawned with a yellow ! over his head and gave me the quest to bring him a stout. I already had one on me as a drop from another Syndicate mob, so I turned it in and he gave me the missive. He immediately turned hostile, but again, didn't attack.

I just completed this quest and have a hostile rep with this faction. It appears as of the 2.3.3 patch, Henchman Valik appears green with a yellow exclamation point over his head. After you accecpt and complete the quest he turns red and is killable. Cords 57, 69 confirmed.

Valik appeared hostile to me, already had a stout with me. Killed him and while waiting for him to respawn the missive dropped.

Hung out to see if he respawned with the quest available, and he did. I'm thinking that it's intentional due to the text of the quest - he talks about you coming back to finish the job you started and his impending death so it seems as if it's working as intended.

Simple quest folks...solo'd 34 lock heres how it goes :

Pick up quest from org inside building next to Wanted: poster in Tarren Mills, Hillsbrad

Run into the Inn and talk to the InnKeeper and grab (1) Southshore Stout

Head north from Tarren Mills into Alterac Mountains.

Before you get to the Crushridge orgs go off to the right ontop of the platform thing you'll enter a camp called "Soferas' Naze"

The guy you need to see is directly off to the right with yellow exclamation (!) over his head.

Now you can do this two ways, this way was easiest for me...
I just sent in my voidwalker and aggro'd camp, ran over to the guy and completed quest.

Or you can fight your way through, which i found kind of a pain because they aggro very easy, and you will get more than you can handle fast.

Then just run back to Tarren Mill and return quest :D

Wish I had read these comments before I infiltrated Strahnbrad! Blizzard seems to have a bad habit of putting two encampments of the same type right near each other, each several levels of difficulty apart, then giving a vague direction like "north" that applies to both. If you pickpocket them, you can get a bunch of Syndicate Emblems (http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=6701)

Ok I found Valik without an ! above head. I killed him. You will aggro other mobs so be ready. After Valik spawns again, he will indeed have the ! for the quest. I feared the adds and clicked him twice and ran. GL

Just did this quest via Valik. He appeared with an ! over his head; when I targeted him, he appeared "friendly" (green name plate) and not affiliated with any faction. Once the quest was completed, he became a non-hostile unfriendly affiliated with the Syndicate. (With which I'm at war.) Killing him in that state yielded no experience, he could not be looted, and (oddly enough) didn't change my rep with the Syndicate.

That sounds bugged, to me, but since I've also done this quest by simply killing the other syndicate members, it doesn't seem that big a deal.

Either they fixed it with the new patch, or the bug is inconsistent. I tracked down Valik today after completing the quest where you kill a bunch of Syndicate (http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?quest=549), and he was Syndicate-affiliated, and therefore hostile, to begin with. Looks like I'm doing it the old-fashioned way...

Did this quest today on my undead mage, and Valik was hostile. Did not give any XP or loot when killed. The missive dropped off of the next mob.

Then went and did it on my tauren druid, and again got it on the first kill -- but there, Valik was not hostile, and had a quest for me. Doesn't make much sense.

For the ones who are doing quests for "Loremaster of Eastern Kingdom" I suggest doing it the way with the Drunken Footpad > Henchman Valik.
Because Valik offers you a quest for the stout, and that's an extra quest that DOES also count for Loremaster of Eastern Kingdom.

I made this quest with my 29th level warrior. I only need to kill two Syndicate Footpad.

Soloed as a 29 rogue, killed a rogue - no drop, killed a footpad and got it.

Okay, to clear up a lot of confusion, this guy is friendly to everybody to start off with, whether you are hated or not with the Syndicate.

If he is hostile to you, it means that the previous person to do the quest with him didn't kill him after completing the quest and receiving the Syndicate Missive.

Just kill him and he should respawn in around 5 - 10 minutes friendly to you and you can complete the quest. =)

Here is a much simplier explanation to complete this quest on Horde side.

1- Go to the innkeeper at Tarren Mill and buy the stout from them.

2- Remember the cords 57.2, 69.5 in Alterac Mountains, if you use Lightheaded ingame dont click the cords while you are in Hillsbrad Foothills or they will take you to the middle of the ocean around a bunch of naga. Not a good idea lol. Make sure your mini map says that you are in Alterac then follow the cords.

3- Give the NPC there the stout in exchange for the missive, he will become hostile and you will have to kill him. Do so and you got whatcha need.

I have done this quest prolly 10 times and im dumb enough everytime to click the cords when I am in Hillsbrad and end up running into a ton of Naga and dying then remembering that I needed to be in Alterac. Im such a noobass sometimes lol. FOR THE HORDE!
