You'll find a "Soft Dire Mound" right behind some altar (81,46). Right click it to plant the Gor'tesh head.

Hard way
1. Goto 75,37 its on the North west side of the mound.
2. Go up the path and cross the rope bridge.
3. Kill about 5 lvl 53 orgers (or stealth).
4. Right click on dirt by cave.

Easy way
1. Goto 78,51
2. Climb the magma trail. Kill 1 lvl 52 elemental.
3. 30 feet Past top of magma trail at 82,47 there is a dark crack you can climb up.
4. Guarded by 2 orgers.
5. Right click on dirt by cave.

Once you place the head-on-a-stick in the ground, all nearby ogres will receive the debuff "Firegut Fear Storm" (http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=13488), which is essentially just Fear that doesn't break when attacked.

The mound of dirt is right in front of the cave on top of Dreadmaul Rock. It's usually being guarded by an Ogre.

If you're a Rogue, you can Sap the Ogre and plant the stick.

with my mage i whuld up to it but culdn't get up and i whuld not go inside the gaves so i tryed to get up with blinnk but it didn't work but then i found a lave pool at 77/50 follow it up and then at 79/48 you cant get higher then you shall just use blink and then follow the lava up to a little pool and there go a bid more and then you are 81/47 then run up then take flag in and run back:D or just use the gaves:D

watch out about the brutes they knock you back and i was knocked off the edge so be careful

The obsidian elementals are insanely fire resistant. I spammed 4k worth of mana on one as a pure fire mage, with +146 fire dmg, and still just barely got it. Maybe I just got unlucky... I cast mostly fireballs, also an Ice Nova and a few fireblasts.

Directions are great!

For some of us who can't stealth:
Ride your mount all the way to the top, pause to let all the ogres who are tracking you get right next to you, fear, plant head, win.

I think its weird that planting an ogre head, that isnt bright at all, makes your hands sparkle like youre casting Lighting Bolt.. :)

the soil is on the southern-middle cave i followed the most southern lava flow and i got it also for an achivement a coin of ancestry

This quest is funny. Great overall quest, it's fun to do and gives out a good ammount of exp!

When I did this quest (April 4th, 2009), the ogre head on a stick did not appear, the ogres in the area did not get the debuff "Firegut Fear Storm" but I still got credit for the quest and was able to turn it in. Kinda disappointing but a good quest non the less.

I like to confirm that the amusing animation when the head is planted is no longer working. The head used to appear once you planted it on the stick in the dirt pile along with the aforementioned debuff plus a funny zone wide shout from the ogres. Another example of Blizzard abandoning old animinations and details for the sake of the expansions. Seems they 're slipping. Too bad.

It would seem that I recently tried to do this quest, however it seems to be bugged. No matter which soft dirt mound you go to, even the one given in the directions posted on this questline, does not work. It doesn't seem to read that you have the pike? Not sure.

The day this quest was removed was a sad day to the hundreds, perhaps thousands, of us that kept this quest in our logs, just for use in linking at inappropriate times for the sake of humor. We miss you, Ogre Head On A Stick = Party!

Just one last thing you must do, soldier.

I've taken the liberty of putting Gor'tesh's head on a pike. Now all you have to do is take this head to the top of Dreadmaul Rock and stick it into the ground. Once you do that, watch as those cowardly ogres run for their lives! After you've had your fun, come back to me and I'll reward you for all of your hard work.
