am I the only one imagining this npc to be hostile and needed to be kited to the quest npc? ;o

edit: posted this before the details concerning the quest were known; the add will spawn in one of the add waves during P1 and needs to be picked up by the OT, he's fairly squishy so tell your dps to look out not to attack him.
after that the MT has to solo-tank the adds whilst the OT keeps darn on him, when P2 starts you can either keep darn on the OT and nuke the boss using ToTT and MD on the MT as much as possible (if you have enough dps and the tank can do insane TPS while he still has low stacks) or have them taunt the boss & darn off of eachother

Possibly similar to her achievement as well? I mean, the text insinuates that you must down Deathwhisper ensuring Darnavan survives. Wouldn't be too hard to have tanks switch between him and the boss. Just taunt off of each other.

Edit: Also, can someone please tell us when these quests are implemented? We all could use more emblems.

Reward is 5 emblems of frost 25g and 350 rep

The add spawns during the first wave. You just need to tank him. He's immune to sheep but other CC seems to work. He also puts sunders on the person tanking him.

Just did it on 10m, very easy. We had our feral tank take Darnavan and 1 add and myself the pally tank take the other 2, then taunt the add to die off him while the bear rooted Darnavan around the back of the room. Nothing else is changed.

Very easy quest. He spawns in the first wave, unless you wiped (in which case he spawns on the second wave). Be VERY careful! He only has as much hp as a normal add.

For our raid we just had our hunter tank him with a turtle pet. (10m)

EDIT: Just opened the bag and received an Ametrine and 5 Frost. Upon completing the quest i earned 350 rep and 29g 60s.

In the event Darnavan dies, it looks like you'll have to drop it & pick up the new "weekly" after reset.

Got this quest on our 10-man ICC this week. We wiped once since we had one of our raiders kill him, then we abandoned the quest and tried again.

Darnavan spawns at the first wave of adds (some people say he spawns at the second wave in case you had a previous wipe on the encounter, that didn't seem to be truth though), taking the spot of one Adherent or one Fanatic. You have to successfully defeat the encounter without killing Darnavan. He's got the same health as a normal Adherent/Fanatic add (approximately 150k hp on 10-man).

He's got 2 abilities that I could notice: a Sunder Armor that removes Armor %, and a Bladestorm, similar to the Warrior version. Our Druid tank was at 20% less armor when we broke Deathwhisper's barrier.

We had a Druid tanking Darnavan separately during P1, and when we broke Deathwhisper's Mana Barrier, our DK dps started kiting him around the room. Darnavan is immune to Polymorph and Fear, but not to Chains of Ice. Overall it's a very easy quest, but you might want to turn off on-hit damage effects such as Thorns or Retribution aura, because of his low health and given how early he spawns.

He spawned second wave for us on 10 man. If you have a druid, then just keep him rooted the whole fight and it's super easy (don't kill him!).

When we walked into ICC, we saw this quest immediately after Marrowgar, not even aware that they added these dailies..

You can NOT CC him in anyway (polymorph, ice trap, disarm and even mind control). He must be tanked by someone in your raid, because he will bladestorm and do other nasty things. While tanking, you must do only enough damage to keep him from going to your healers and everyone in the raid must be aware of their splash damage. He has very little health, so he drops FAST!

For our set up, we just had our warrior tank handle Darnavan when he spawned. He took him all the way up the stairs away from the rest of the raid. Our other tank, a Death Knight, took care of all the adds that spawned. When Deathwhisper's mana shield dropped, our warrior went back down to Deathwhisper with Darnavan. When the time came for the two tanks to swap aggro, the other tank took Darnavan as well.

Your success here depends on the skill of your tanks. You could try and bring 3 tanks, but remember: you still need to bring her down before she enrages. Also, don't bother having a pet tank Darnavan...

Dont kill him... no1 touch him... what happens? he got killed! so we let ourselves get killed and did it over again and succeeded.

He is only snarable for as far as I know. Ice chains, roots... he cant be MCed we havent tried fear.

The quest is extremely easy, The add spawns on the first wave and has a 160,000 health pool in 10man. We had our hunter put his Turtle pet onto him and tank him to the side of lady deathwhisper, further off to the left. The turtle just auto attacked and taunted therefore doing only 20-30k damage throughout the fight.

We had a priest keep him alive, he said it was very easy and the fight was a roaring success.

He does two skills that we found:

1.) Whirlwinds doing moderate ammount of damage.
2.) Uses mortal strike which halves the ammount of healing on the target.

Apart from that, the quest is a doddle and should be treated as such. Using a tank is also a viable idea, however as we found out the hard way, the death knights, paladins, and just about everybody did atleast one AoE of some sort, whether it be in there single target rotation or not. Meaning the Darnavan slowly died and ended up kicking the bucket in phase 2 of the fight. If you have a warlock or hunter, using there pet would definatly be your first choice, but getting a third tank, or explaining to your group to avoid using their AoE attacks would also be a possible solution.

the only problem with this quest is actually killing him.
I did that on 25 man. He had 250k hp. Assign an tank to pull him on the back of the room and tell a druid to throw hots once in a while as he hits like a lil' girl. Basically,pull him in the back and forget about him.
He will charge players sometimes which can be annoying, also i think he bladestorms

I did this on my Death Knight, in tank gear that amounted to 34k hp unbuffed. I don't like the idea of tanking him, because he only has 150k hp in 10man. I, instead, kept taunting and kiting him with Chains of Ice. A priest set up a lightwell, and a warlock soulstoned me so I would require less attention. This is not reccomend if you have less than 3-4k dps, because it consumes a raid spot for Darnavon with my strategy.

Bear druids: Don't forget about Nature's Grasp - you can root Darnavan without switching out of form.

We just got this for the first time: This is what we did.

First, I was the one to tank him. I respec'ed into Prot for the extra stamina, got the stuff to reduce damage and avoided stuff that would increase it to much. Got Persuit of Justice in Ret and had like... 16 talent points left, didnt spend them. I used Hand of Reckoning to pull him away from the group and then put up Sacred Shield and Holy Shield.

used Hand of Protection whenever he had me slowed or hand of Freedom was off cooldown. When you needed a moment, used Divine Shield. This will not get him off you, instead, run and he will set up a Shattering throw and break your shield. We did this in 10 man and he was at 49% when we finished. Just run around facing the other way. I was in PvP gear. No defense and I did fine, rarely needed healed so I was able to go away from the group and just run.

Pretty easy in 10man. Completed two times on the first shot. Normal group composition, 2 tanks, 2 heals, 6 dps.

The NPC spawned during the first wave of adds. So DPS be aware not to hit him as he is rather squishy. We had a warrior tank pull him to the back of the room and kite him back and forth. Mage set him as focus and keep a Slow up when possible, earthbind totem would also work, or a frost trap. The tank also removes his shield and weapon to reduce dmg dealt to the NPC. A grey weapon with low dmg can be equipped to allow use of abilities.

With one tank on the boss, dps need to be aware of their threat as the debuff stacks eventually the tank (we used a paladin) will only be staying on top with taunts. If you have high dps you could be able to burn down the boss before this becomes a problem. All DPS should use aggro dropping abilities if possible. But a good tank should have pumped out plenty of threat before it becomes too much.

Reward is 5 frost emblems, some gold, and a chance at rare epics such as epic gems, or even BoE 264 items.

They easiest way I've found to do this is to have a druid root him they entire fight. Once he spawns, have your druid (preferably Balance), go bear form, growl him to gain they initial aggro, and pull him back to the stairway. Once he's there, apply Roots to trap him and you can go fire off a few shots at the boss. Once root's hits about ten seconds, run back and reapply before it breaks and you can keep him locked for almost they entire fight. A Boomkin is PERFECT for this, as the 400% armor boost of Moonkin Form can let you survive a couple hits if your slow on the roots. If he does break free, go bear, taunt him again, and either cast roots or use Nature's Grasp so he roots as soon as he strikes you.

Just remember, don't use Insect Swarm, Moonfire, or any other damage ability to grab him for that initial aggro and you can just have a druid stay on him, reapplying roots everytime it comes off cooldown and ace the fight.

Guy spawns even if you dont take quest.

We were doing hardmode on her at 10man and noone took the quest to "not spawn additional annoyance" during the fight, but he still came there.

we just had our dps warrior, go prot, and tank him back in the back........our lock was brainless and kept dpsing. him............

we got it done, but with not much health left

Did this today on our 10man. I'm a Balance druid. Made the following macro:

/tar Darnavan
/cast Entangling Roots

He is in first group of adds. They always come out on left side. I hit him with wrath to get aggro. Ran back to the steps and cast Nature's Grasp on myself. He hit me and got rooted. Then i just moved back toward center where i could dps adds or Deathwhisper. About every 15 seconds I could just turn around and hit macro. Easy 5 badges.

Got this quest last night on 10 man in my guild's very first ICC run. We had a feral dps druid switch to bear form and tank him by the stairs. Everyone else did the encounter like normal, heals of course through a heal on the OOT (off offtank) every now and then. Easiest 5 emblems you could ask for.

Our 10-player raid did this quest last night. I was a feral DPS druid assigned to handling Darnavan.

Before the fight, I set up a macro to cast Entangling Roots on my focus target.

I tanked him in Bear Form long enough to drag him away from the thick of things, and then put up Barkskin to cast Entangling Roots. (In retrospect, I could've just used Nature's Grasp.) I then set Darnavan to my focus target and resumed my regular DPS duties. For the rest of the fight, every time Entangling Roots' duration went below 10 seconds, I ran toward Darnavan and hit my focus-Roots macro.

I ended up on the bottom of the damage meters, but the rest of my raid group told me this was the easiest time they've had with this quest.

Mages! Your Mirror Image WILL target this guy!

We watched in horror as the uncontrollable copies brought him down to 39 HP. Luckily they faded and we were able to complete the quest.

We had hoped to place a man on the inside of the Cult of the Damned, to give us an inside angle on the Lich King's machinations, but we... underestimated the persuasive powers of Arthas and his dark minister, Lady Deathwhisper.

Our man, Darnavan, is one of them now.

If you plan on fighting your way through the Oratory ahead, please keep your eyes peeled for Darnavan. If you can bring him back to us alive, we can attempt to reverse the Cult's brainwashing.
