You create the Essence of the Exile by collecting these items from elementals in Arathi Highlands:

http://www.wowhead.com/?item=4479 - Burning Charm (8)
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=4481 - Cresting Charm (8)
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=4480 - Thundering Charm (8).

Once you have them, right click the cauldron near Bath'Rah, and you will receive the Essence of the Exile.

These things are kind of hard to do if you dont want to be level 38 to get the stuff, find a level 60 friend to help you, because this thing can get tough. The worst ones, i found, are the whirlwind ones. They shoot lightning and they hit hard, so have your 60 friend attack them from far away, or if they are a rogue or warrior, get them to stun them or get their attention.

I did this quest at level 30. At the end of the quest chain you get a Whirlwind Axe! http://www.wowhead.com/?item=6975. Which is a great axe for that level.

No one has mentioned the drop rate on those tusks.... i'm having a friend help me with this quest. He's killed at least 20 bloodscalps... and not ONE tusk. His brother said it took him two days (playing 4 hours a day) to get all of them...

But if you have a friend helping the other items are easy... well in my case I have a lvl 69 helping :)

Be prepared for lots of running around though, lol... and make sure to pick up the fp in Booty Bay while you're there ;)

As a level 34 Warrior and with my level 36 Mage friend, we took down the Exiles pretty easily. I tanked, so I died a once or twice, but overall it wasn't that tough.

Hard?? I started this quest as a level 34 Warrior. I did the tusks as I quested in Stranglethorn Vale, and picked up the Liferoot near different bodies of water. The difficult part is that none of the Drywhiskers are dropping the charms! I'm level 36 now, and have gone to kill those suckers 4 different times, for no less than 30 minuntes each time...and nothing!

1 tip: when you put quest items on the bank, don't forget to go get hem before trying to finish the quest :(.

After you hand in everything and you accept the next quest he goes to summon cyclonian if you fail to kill him don't worry you do NOT have to go collect everything again, just abandon the Q and go get it again >p

Maybe someone can clear this up for me but when i look at the stats the mace has at least 0.1 or 0.2 over the other weapons so why is the whirlwind axe the most popular? Also if I was to attempt to farm the crests on my 70 for my warrior would they drop for the 70 or does a warrior who has the quest need to be in the group?

Remember, you only need to kill the trolls on your warrior - your (assuming you have one) Main can farm the Charms + Liferoot without problem.
And a tip: Get a mate too help you with the 40 elite , or buy a nature potion.

While you are grinding Bloodscalp Orcs for thier tusks, you should pick up the quest:Bloodscalp Ears from Kebok in Booty Bay. That way you can grind drops for two quests at the same time. You will easily get enough Bloodscalp ears by the time you finish getting the 30 tusks you need.

you can buy the Charms and lifroot at AH. 2g-6g for 10 charms (i payed 6g for all the charms), and 8 liferoot at AH for 60s-1g.
The tusks witch you can find in Straglethorn Vale from the trolls from lvl 32-35. (i got the axe at lvl 33 with a bit help with the tusks). Had a friend helping me with the elite

I found this quest both difficult and the posts fragmented which made it hard to understand so I thought I'd provide a step-by-step walkthrough. I completed this at Lvl 30 but had a lvl 30 Priest with me most of the time and called in some Guildies in the 50s to help with the Elementals. I don't think this quest is possible at lvl 30 without some level 40+ players to help.

Suggestion: There's LOTS of travel for this quest. You might want to run through to Refugee Point in Arathi Highlands and over to Southshore in the Hillsbrad Foothills to get the flight paths to save some time getting to Menethil Harbor in the Wetlands (assuming you need to take the boat to Booty Bay in StrangleThorn Vale).

You need to complete three separate tasks BEFORE you return to Bath'rah and fight a Level 40 Wind Elemental to earn the Whirling Axe (which appears to be the best choice).

The first is to find 8 Liferoot, this is easy to purchase from the Auction House in any major city.

The second is to get 30 BloodTusks from Trolls (lvls 34-36) in the Northern portion of Stranglethorn Vale (STV) Coords: 25,10. This is a long trip and there are often tons of horde in the same area. The Trolls can be pulled but often you're figthing 2-3 at a time.

The final step is to get 8 Thundering, Burning and Cresting charms from elementals (lvls 38+) in the Arathi Highlands (note: I bought a number of Cresting Charms in the Auction House). These things are tough and with two level 30 characters (Warrior and Priest) we weren't able to kill them, we needed some level 50s to help.

Thundering Charm (8) = Thundering Exile | Arathi Highlands | 50,53
Burning Charm (8) = Burning Exile | Arathi Highlands | 26,26
Cresting Charm (8) = Cresting Exile | Arathi Highlands | 67,30

Bring all of the things you collected back to the Cauldron near Bath'rah where you should see a Question Mark, the charms will create the Essence of the Exile.

Hand everything in to Bath'rah and follow him to fight the Lvl 40 Wind Elemental.

I earned two levels in the process of completing this quest and the Axe doubled the amount of damage I was delivering (so I thought it was worth it).

I see a lot of people mention the same thing but nothing about the fight itself. I soloed it at 38 with multiple attempts but finally did it.

He has 2 abilities, Whirlwind and Gust of Wind which is basically like the Cyclone Druid spell. You CAN move back when you see him cast these they'll miss so it'd possible to kite him around the structure to fight, just don't get to far ahead. This is also important.. DO NOT FIGHT HIM WITH YOUR BACK TO THE RIVER this frustrated me so much as he randomly does a huge push back and knocked me into the river one time where he couldn't follow and ended up regenerating his life. He also was able to knock me up onto the structure which will also gain some life back cause of pathing.

Some good tips as mentioned is use Nature Protection Potion and another potion ready if you're going to solo. It'd be wise to time the potion and when you start battle so that the potion use cooldown is ready when you need it as well. My first few attempts would've been better if i hadn't been knocked in the water and used Retaliation, so if you got it, pop it. Hope this helps, i was also Fury used mostly Battle Stance. Thought Plummel in Berserker would help but it just wasted my rage which you need a lot of if you're going to solo.

I followed the above comments except I took a 70 alt and farmed the 3 different charms to get the Essence of the Exile. They do not bind and you do not have to have the quest to get the charms. That might make it a little bit easier! GL!

If you're on the warrior whirlwind weapon quest, remember you can start doing it at lvl 30. If you're thinking, I'm way too low to kill those mobs solo, you're probably right. However, don't wait!

Even though while being level 30, this questchain is too difficult to solo, also considering the Elementals in Arathi on the follow up, I would suggest you bring a high level friend to do it, since the reward is a really good weapon.

If you wait till you can solo it, you waited too long. You can have this weapon at level 30. Bring a friend and get it done.

You can farm the charms from the elementals located in the Arathi Highlands and the tusks from Trolls in STV.
All the rewards for this quest are Two-Hander weapons so if you are a Prot warrior this is a big fail and waste of time.

He was actually an easy fight for an elite. I managed to solo him with my lvl 40 prot warrior; so you won't need a healer at this level. I did use one superior healing pot. Opened up with Shield Wall, Shield Block, and then just kept nailing him with revenge / hs combos (I have the Revenge glyph), as well as Shield Slam whenever that came up. Hit him with a Thunder Clap when I had the rage to spare to slow down his attacks a bit. Probably didn't need the healing pot, by why risk it...

ok i finished the first part of quest when i wnet to kil lcylconian he killed me then i went back to kill him after i revived i went back and he was gone.... help plz

Finally managed to solo at 36. I have poor gear overall, I only just killed him with the last tick of rend, he killed me :(

Couldn't get a Nature pot, so used a 35 healing pot, Scroll of Strength, Agility horn thingy from Arathi quest and perfect dodging of his abilities. I used the nearby Snapjaws to clock up 100 rage also.

I'm arms spec and seem to be more powerful than any other toon I've created. This is a very hard fight, bring a friend!

This quest is easily done at 30. Well for me it was.

1. I used an alt to get all the charms to make the Essence of the Exile. And then just mailed the charms to the warrior.
2. Most of the bloodscalp npcs in STV are easily soloable if you taunt them one by one.
3. And the liferoot is just an exercise in using alts, making friends in chat channels or looking on the Auction House.

Takes a while cause of all the traveling but otherwise a fun quest.

Soloed at lvl 39 as protection warior, deffensive stance all time, used 1 pot, finished around 40% hp left... used all my cooldowns in the fight.

Expected a harder fight...

about the weapon, hasn't the weapon speed has influence on how fast your rage builds? sow the axe, witch is slow gives you more damage but the sword gives you more rage?

Was curious if a lvl 38 warrior could do this solo.

I'm largely Prot. Spec. and only have 1 Heirloom- Battleworn Thrash Blade w/ Crusader on it. Yes, that is cool. And some random Dungeon Finder loot.

And I soloed it with ease. Used 1 pot, but not really necessary cause I forgot about using Shield Wall.

I would imagine if you knew what you were doing at lvl 40, you could solo this with Quest Greens.

Beginning to really like Prot. Spec grinding...round up a bunch of mobs and away we go. Was killing the Trolls in STV 4 at a time (including some that were 3-4 lvls above me).

I have spent ages watching this site. I watch, so that one day I might see the great Cyclonian fall. But I have not yet found a champion to defeat the wind lord.

Perhaps you are that champion.

Prove it to me. Gather the items I need to summon Cyclonian, and I will know you are a great warrior. Perhaps then you can defeat him and gain his whirlwind heart.

If so, then I will infuse the heart's power in a weapon, and I will give that weapon to you.
