The fountain is on an island in the middle of a lake. Mobs 23-34 surround the lake. What makes it difficult is the mobs have the Entangling Roots ability making fleeing harder. Oh yeah, and there's a '?? Elite' Wandering Protector walking around in the area too to watch out for.

Don't get too scared about the ?? Elite Wandering Protector, it walks all over ashenvale, wastingtape must had been in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Some mobs patrolls the well, kill them and then fill the Emty Blue Waterskin. Don't make my mistake (as an alliance player it's easy to forget that you're playing an horde char) and go too far, i went through Astranaar and got killed...

Did it at lvl 24... Killed 3 mobs and filled my waterskin... easymode... None lvl 30.... 23-24

33,67 to the west of Talondeep path. Don't make the mistake I did and look for it to the east.

I don't know if they changed this quest recently, but I just did it with a lvl 20 Shaman without too much trouble.

I'm only wearing greens, with a puny enhancement spec which is far from optimal at this level, so basically if I can do it, you can too. Don't give up, play to the best of your ability, use the totems you have, and a 23-24 mob won't be able to withstand the shocks that you do manage to get through (I had to kill a lvl 23, lvl 20 to get to the fountain, and a lvl 24 on my way out). Especially if you manage to throw yourself a heal every once in a while.

33,67 is confirmed. The socalled fountain is more of a birdbath with a blue glow at the center of the island.

lvl 20 tauren....easy as you can take out lvl 24 with your searing totem and put down your stonskin. Im a shield shaman....very good greens. i killed a 22,24 at the same time to do it no pot.

The run there wasn't fun, but oh well.

It's interesting to note that the act of filling the waterskin is like casting a spell, not like interacting with an object. This means if you take damage from a monster while filling it, it will just delay the process, instead of interrupting it.

Died horribly trying to do this quest. Its not that the mobs are impossible; mainly being a poorly equipped level 20 enhancement spec probably worked against me! Anyway, easiest trick I found was to just doggedly make your way to the "fountain" (as someone pointed out, its more of a birdbath than a fountain, but it is the only one of its kind on the island and in a little pagoda so easy to spot) and get as close as you possibly can in the assumption you'll probably die.

Then corpse run and resurrect right by the fountain, making sure you're prepared to drop a stoneclaw totem, down the highest level healing potion you can take and start using the waterskin (in that order) the second you resurrect.

Died again, resurrected at the spirit healer, and headed on down to the Zoram Strand to pick up the flight path.

Not the most stylish way to complete the quest, but it got the job done without lots of slow, painful fighting or grovelling to high level friends!

Make sure you grab the quest "The Ashenvale Hunt" http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=6382 from Jorn Skyseer in Camp T and go to Splintertree Post to turn it in and grab the fp.

I did this at lvl 20 on my Shaman with more problems than I care to explain. Of course, I'm not wearing very good gear. Basically, my Heirloom shoulders and that's about it. Everything else is around lvl 13 greens. I died. A lot. Not that I really care since repairing at this level is the equivalent of the value menu at McDonald's, but y'know :P I just used my Stoneclaw Totem, used the quest item, and hearthed.

I did this the cowards way. Went into Ghost Wolf, and got right next to the well. Naturally, I died. Next I went and found my body, and resurrected. I quickly filled the bottle and died. Then I talked to the spirit healer, and hearthed back to Crossroads. I'm a level 20 shaman

Thanks for the help with doing this quest. Here is what I ended up doing.

First of all I took the road up from the Barrens into Ashenvale and continued on the road to the left towards Astranaar. Before getting to Astranaar, I then went south towards the Stonetalen mountains and managed to find Talondeep Path.

At that point, which is near Lake Mystral, I took a right and followed the cleared areas. I was in Ghost Wolf and just steered clear of the bears and stuff. The stags don't seem to bother anyone unless provoked. A bear or two got a lick in from time to time but otherwise it was no problem.

When I got to the Ruins of Stardust, I changed to a mount and did a running jump then finished getting over to the island. I managed to make it to the center fountain before dying.

The Spirit Healer you end up at is actually quite close.

I ran back and resurected next to the fountain, filled my bag, and died.

I ran back and resurected away from the fountain after a look around and only one of the creatures found me. I took him out then used hearthstone to get out and back to the inn where it was safe.

Staying on the roads and paths seems to be safest otherwise I die a lot in this Ashenvale area.

I really appreciate the map as it helped me to come up with the plan of following the roads and then going south. I tried following along the mountain and just died and died and died.

I managed to fully survive.
I ran in ghost wolf, dropped a stoneclaw totem,stomped,took water,then got entangling roots. I healed myself until they wore off,than ran away,got rooted 2 more times but managed to heal through.

I'm guessing the levels of the mobs have been tweaked recently. But here's the way I did it.

When traveling there, follow the road until it curves north, just before Ashenvale. There should be a path that splits off the road at that point. Follow this. If you continue south, you'll run straight to Ruins of Stardust.

I only ran into two level 22s. As I was level 21, this was no big deal. But if you take the path I described, you have little chance of running into wildlife. Maybe a wolf, but if you stick to the path, you should be fine.

I decided to finish the questchains for the water totem with level 33. I leveld as an enhancement and it was no huge deal not to have the totem till then.

Not to mention that this quest is a piece of cake with this level .

As an alternative route where you will most likely not aggro anything until you get to the island where the well is, take The Talondeep Path from Stonetalon Mountains. At level 20 you should have no problem avoiding the mobs in Stonetalon Mountains up to the tunnel. Once you exit the tunnel in Ashenvale make an immediate left and follow the path to the lake, you'll just have to avoid some 20-22 Bears. You will still have to deal with the 22-24 mobs by the well itself, see the other comments on strategies for that (I personally just killed them as a level 20 with half my gear slots empty).

I wonder if Blizzard intended us to use The Talondeep Path, it would be in the spirit of running a ridiculous distance.

This quest was infuriating to do at level 20. The mobs in the immediate area and on the route to the quest zone can be as high as level 25, along with a wandering level ?. I also got too close to an alliance town while trying to avoid mobs and ended up being killed by guards. If you know a high level person with some free time, save yourself the frustration and have them help you out with this, or wait a few levels before trying this out. Was definitely not worth it for me to do right away.

Descrição

Take this waterskin and head deep into the lush forest the night elves call Ashenvale. It is to the far north of the Barrens.

Once you've entered the forest, travel west. Along the mountains that separate Stonetalon and Ashenvale, and beyond Lake Mystral, you will find a holy place: the Ruins of Stardust. At the center of the lake you will find a small fountain.

Bring me a sample of the fountain's water. It will be the final component you'll need before I send you back to Islen.
