BORING....I had to kill 200+ centaurs of the other clan to get my rep up high enough to finish this quest. I started at 2200 rep, and had to raise it to 3000. The thing is, I was only getting 5 rep from each kill, and some would only give me 1! Only start this quest chain if you are a true grinder.

You start at 2000, you get 20 rep. per kill - 50 kills to 3000.

You have to defeat about 46 Centaurs. 45 if human due to humans have diplomacy.

This quest (along with its counterpart for the Magram) signifies all that is faulty and wrong with Blizzard's reputation system. If you for whatever reason want to do this quest when the Magram mobs have gone "grey" - i.e. don't give any experience when killed - you will need to kill *250* of them to reach friendly with the Gelkis...

This can easily take hours if the monsters just went "grey".

So be aware it will be a long, time-consuming and most likely frustrating experience to get over the first hump in this chain. The "reward" for perservering with it is you get to go to the Swamp of Sorrows towards the end, and with all the other quests available there (including the crab legs gather quest from relatively nearby Theramore: http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=1258) it can net you a nice sum of experience.

None of the Swamp of Sorrows quests send you off to other places by the way. They all "stick together" nice and easy for some relatively painless leveling.

I'm on a mission to do all the Alliance quests I can get done before WotLK comes out.
I just did this quest as a level 70 Night Elf Rogue. For those interested, or doing this quest at 70 (for whatever reason) I had all 15 Centaur ears, and was hated by Magram before I even reached friendly with Gelkis. I was getting 4 rep increase and 100 decrease per kill.

And just something I didn't see anyone mention, even though it might be very obvious, the pets give you rep as well, and for me, it was the same rep per each centaur I killed.

Just finished the 15 ears and am at 2814/3000 (or 93.8%) as a level 35 Shadow Priest. So I'm gonna finish this quest, may as well get the experience for killing these guys and the experience for the quest. It doesn't seem to be an outrageous number of kills you need as some of the earlier posts state.

OMFG i cant believe no one mentuion that the leader khan jehn is a referance to ghengis kahn anyway he is easy as a 33 i took on him and 2 adds came out without a scratch.

its about 30 min to grind the rep to friendly at 70 level.

Rep gain per kill is now down to 4 at level 80.
Edit: I would say it took about "10" laps around the camp to do it. Wasn't really counting, but it wasn't that bad really.

im about to do this Q, for anyone who has read about the small rep gains at high level, blizzard have just released in a patch that all rep gains at level 80 will be given in full instead of penalising you for being high level.. Thankyou blizzard :)

I just finished this quest at 80. I gained 20 rep per kill and lost 100. It took me maybe 5 mins to get to friendly with them.

to switch your rep from gelkis to magram or vice versa, simply click on the rep you are friendly or > and check the "at war" box. this will let you attack the friendly mobs to switch your rep.

If you go stand up by Warug (74,68), his bodyguards will spawn nearly as fast as you can kill them, while he remains friendly.

For those going after the achievement, Loremaster of Kalimdor, you can do *both* the Gelkis and Magram quest lines (after fixing your rep of course). All quests count.

I handed in the 15 ears for the ear quest and only got storm rep and xp and a ring as reward no new faction reputation so why ? guess i have to grind it ?

If you turn in this quest after grinding to 11999 honored you can get 249/21000 revered.

Does count for Loremaster of Kalimdor.

Also, if you did Brutal Politics you can rep grind this faction back up to do this chain. I do recommend that you try kill as little of the Gelkis as possible, because for every 1 you kill will need to kill 5 of the Magram to bring the rep back up.

This quest is quite simple, really...

1. Kill Magram Centaurs until your rep with Gelkis reaches "friendly".
2. Talk to Uthek The Wise.

There are several mentions in other posts about the location of this NPC... however, I'm sure that location varies from version to version.

I'm personally using WOTLK 3.3.5.12340, and the coords for Uthek are 36,79 as seen in the screenshots I've submitted ... enjoy.

We are fortunate the centaur clans fight among themselves, for if they joined into a single force then they would be unstoppable. Yes, we are fortunate, and we should press our advantage.

One of the centaur clans, the Gelkis clan, is in brutal war with the Magram clan. If we attack the Magram, then perhaps an alliance may be struck with the Gelkis.

Speak with Uthek the Wise, in the outskirts of the Gelkis camps in southwestern Desolace. Through her we might strike an alliance with the Gelkis.
