Fun facts:
Each kill gives you 20 reputation, while taking 100 reputation from the opposing faction.
Therefore, it will take you 50 kills in order to become Friendly with the prescribed faction.

Before accepting this quest or Magram Alliance (http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=1367) it is a good idea to check the rewards for the final quest in the series since you can only complete one series without taking a lot of effort faction grinding after finishing one series.

The rewards for the Gelkis Alliance series are:
-Gelkis Marauder Chain (mail chest: 14 agi, 7 str http://www.wowhead.com/?item=6773)
-Uthek's Finger (off-hand: 5 stam, 5 int, 5 spi http://www.wowhead.com/?item=6774)

The rewards for the Magram Alliance series are:
-Magram Hunter's Belt (leather belt: 8 agi, 9 stam http://www.wowhead.com/?item=6788)
-Ceremonial Centaur Blanket (cloak: 2 int, 9 spi http://www.wowhead.com/?item=6789)

If you are too high level you get only 4 rep instead of 20, could take some time to begin the quest chain then...

my cousin killed all the magran for me and i didnt lose rep with em but i gained with gelkis maybe if u got 2 frirends to kill them instead u could get alliances with both?

These quests, imo, aren't worth the time. They send you far for one quest (travelling to Swamp of Sorrows might not be worth it for you), or involve wasting moeny (getting the dummy) - the whole quest chain isn't possible to solo unless you're at a higher level, like early 40s, and by then, you should be at Tanaris, Feralas, Hinterlands... whatever.

The Gelkis/Magram schism is interesting, but not neccessary if you want to grind in Desolace. It's a cool zone and you don't need to do these quests to grind there.

The grinding isn't any longer than any other quest. Do not worry about keeping track of how many you have killed. Their names start out yellow and as you kill them they get orange and then red. When they're names turn red they aggro you and your quest becomes bold white so you know you're finally done.

I was a lvl 36 (pld), the quest was green for me, and I still got the +20 reputation pnts with the opposing centaur faction on each kill.

if you're a rogue, don't do either quest. instead, pilfer them to pick up lockboxes, rogue supplies, and other niceties. since they're friendly, they'll just ignore you. for added fun, have a buddy kill them after you to rinse and repeat.

Looking at the earlier posts, I disagree quite a bit with anyone who says that the questline should not be completed. While it is true that the rewards are fairly low, remember that to become friendly takes over 50 centaurs killed. As a lvl 37 warrior, I get 200+ xp per kill, plus copper or silver drops off of each kill. In other words, not including the xp for COMPLETING the quest, a person should expect to receive around 10k xp just from the killing alone, and a hefty some of coins as well, not including extra drops. The quest doesnt grind that long, and later quests are fairly easy to complete as well. The completion of the entire quest line will likely get you a few gold and at least 15-20k xp when all is sadi and done. Although it can be boring, the xp is well worth it for the short time it takes to grind out 50 kills or so.

Did this as a 51 Demo Lock very very very easy, one tip though..

Do this quest as early as you possibly can. It was easy to round them up but it goes sooo slow and soo boring, nothing ever happens in desolace, not even a place to fish while grinding.

Yea only hunters can use that belt...totally ignore rogues,feral druids , enh shamans etc.And you're not doing it just for that reward...you get some nice xp as posted in a comment here...

Just completed this grind with my level 31 enhancement shaman and completed the 50 kills in just under 22 minutes. I'd say it's well worth the time. Got me about 20% of the way tot level 32 as well.

One way to get even more XP out of this one is to kill members of one clan and then go to the other camp and kill them, that way your rep with them goes up then back down. Another faster way is to share the quest and kill the members of one clan while a buddy kills the members of the other clan, all the while making cash and getting XP. But this will make this quest a lot longer because you have to kill 5 to make up for 1. If you find that you become unable to attack a certain clan simply press "c" and go to your reputation bar, go to the clan you want to attack and select "at war".

This quest is a great quest to do along with Centaur Ears, you can get the ears from the magram centaur while raising reputation with the geliks. But make sure you keep look out for the wandering magram hunter as he has two lvl 38 pets and is 38 himself. You might want to bring a healer with you to so if he springs upon your group it doesn't result in a group wipe.

For those going after the achievement, Loremaster of Kalimdor, you can do *both* the Gelkis and Magram quest lines (after fixing your rep of course). All quests count.

The Magram Village is at 66.0 as of this new patch.
Each Magram you kill gain 20 reputation with Gelkis while decreasing 100 with Magram.

The quest Centaur Bounty can be done at the same time.

The reputation will be removed for both factions in cata, and both clans will be hostile.

It would also seem that if you have the completed quest, on a seldom used alt, you can't turn it in, even though the yellow ? is visible

To beat the centaur, we must use their hatred against them. We will ally with one of the clans and through them, we will learn how to defeat all the clans.

If you choose to ally with the Gelkis then slay their most hated rival, the Magram. After you earn the respect of the Gelkis, meet with the Gelkis shaman Uthek the Wise, on the outskirts of the Gelkis Village, in southwest Desolace.
