This is part of a quest chain you start with Calia Hastings (68,51) in Theramore Isle.

The first quest is called "Traitors Among us"

After completing this chain I was able to pick up a new quest called "The Hermit of Swamplight Manor" from Sergeant Amelyn.

I cleared the island and the entire ship and did not find Gavis Greyshield. I did that twice.

Make sure when you kill him you are close to him. I made the unfaithful mistake of fear and dotting him and he ran all the way into 2-3 rooms away dying and aggroing 2 more NPCs on me.

Gavis Greyshield is at 76.2,57

He is in the captains quarters of the boat (similar to where you picked up the leaflets on the other boat). Just go down the stairs and take a right and another right.

Laaaaame... I killed the cap'n on my 33 lock and he surrendered and stuff but the guards didn't turn friendly. Don't wanna do that whole crap ship another time. So weak you guys.. so weak

the quest bugged 1st try and I didnt got the the objctive, if it bugs for you just make sure to do it again the respawn is fairly quick

Easy solo, lvl 35 pally. this quest is very good for exp, i went from 1/3 bar to 2/3 easily without handing the quest in!

yes, i did this quest as a lvl 41 rogue, INCREDIBALY easy and i had trouble finding him, however i did find him eventually and these are his EXACT cords : (76.2,56.9) Hope this helped :D

As a warlock, I just killed a mob standing right on the ship, used the eye to scout for Gavis and got him targetted, used my succubus (invisible of course) and sent her in there to attack him and she pulled him out without any more mobs.

Not sure if it was just a fluke, but he didnt attract any extra mobs on his way to me, nor did my succubus.

I tried to do this at 35.. they respawn crazy fast. I could take them down, but by the time i killed a third one, the first would respawn. just wait till 37.

Stealthed in as 37 druid - attacked Gavis Greyshield - No need to draw other mobs

Very easy as a stealther. There is a guy hiding in a cubby right before Gavis, be carefull for him.

Fairly easy to do as a 33 shaman with only 1 enchant and 4 quest/instance blues. Just pull them one by one, totem/shield/windfury up, and knock them down. The captain, being 38, made me use health spring and stoneskin and racial heal and mana pot, but I still got him down first try.

Seems people have difficulty locating him on the ship for whatever reason. He's located where practically every quest NPC is located on ships in the game; the "captain's" room for lack of a better word. Since every ship in the game is the exact same layout (excluding ferries), you'll find the captain's chest in this room on the boat at the Pirate cove in Tanaris, the Bloodsail leaders you have to kill on the boats in Stranglethorn, the deserter propaganda on the other boat in Theramore, and probably a few others I can't think of right now, in this same room as where Greyshield is located. The room is always on the first deck below the top, in other words, take the stairs down one flight, and the room is located on that deck. Once you've gone down one deck, the room is the last one at the same end of the ship that you're at when taking the stairs down. It's pretty much behind the stairs, you just have to go around them to get behind them. When leaving the stairs, head to your right and then right again back toward the end of the ship. Keep this room in mind for any other quests you have involving ships - chances are your quest objective will be in this room.

kinda rough on me as a 34 mage, best thing i found was to drag anyone i was killing before the captain back to the little deck right next to the stairs where there were no patrols

I had very much trouble finding him at 35 Hunter... I had to do a LOT of scouting wich was anoying because of VERY FAST respawns so it took a long time to move around... and even with Track Huminoid he did not show up so it was hard finding him and that was very wierd for me

Go to the middle dock, go strate ahead east, then at the end, you should see a small island with a boat next to it. Theres your quest objective.

To find the island and save some swimming, just board the ship going to Menethil Harbor, stand on the starboard side, and as you pass the small boat, jump off. You'll be right at the beach.

as a 36 lock, took care of first mobs , went to top of stairs, and sent Eye of Kilrogg on scouting expedtion...gavis saw the eye and attacked, following all the way to top of stairs, where VW and I did him in....although he surrendered and asked for mercy for his crew...they didnt get the message, and attacked me....i jumped over board, and left VW to die

Just solo on lvl 36 Warrior. Gavis is not that hard, it's the guys around him that are. Just draw them 1 by 1 and when you get below deck don't go forward turn right. There is 1 more guy in a little room before you get to Gavis, get him out and let you health resort then go for it. No need to fight your way off just get above deck and jump.

Just soloed in a level 35 warrior just kill one by one the deserters and enter captains room he will attack and at like 50 % he surrenders (im a draenei so i have gift of the naaru that heals 560 at my level aprox ) good luck.

Done easily as a 35 shammy, although I did have to Reincarnate once. That was my bad, though--I pulled wayyyy too much aggro.

The mobs do respawn crazy fast.

I died on the way out after I had gotten the guy to surrender, though. I thought I could just run up top of the ship, jump off, cast water-walk, mount up and run back to land...but the mobs WILL chase you off the boat, into the water, and halfway back to land.

Very easy to do as a level 38 druid.

Just swim out to the little island, and around to where the ledge is. Change to Cat form and active Prowl. Then, just make your way through the boat and unstealth/attack when you find Greyshield.

He's the only mob I fought on and around the boat.

I was clearing the deck of mobs inside the ship and was going to start my attack on Gavis in his room. While I finished off the last mobs, a paladin came rushing in and ninja'd Gavis and I thought I'd had to wait for a few more minutes for him to respawn again. But no, somehow I got credit for his capture, even though I wasn't engaged in battle with him, I suppose he has some kind of "quest credit aura" that goes to nearby players even when not in a group.

At the end Gavis Greyshield surrenders, saying:

"I will go with you. Just spare my men. They're good lads who've only made a mistake..."

Yeah right. You need to kill all of them first before you can get to him.

This questline is terrible. =(

At the behest of the secret police of a foreign nation, you kill a bunch of separatists. Then you steal their promotional materials, alter them to humiliate the movement and then Gitmo (sorry, "capture and bring to an undisclosed location") their leader. It ends with the speculation that maybe, just maybe, they'll become productive citizens again.

I guess you don't need adventurers for a peaceful redress of grievances, but even so.

Even worse is that it's fast and incredibly easy exp. I feel dirty...

I just completed this quest yesterday in December 2012 (version 5.1.0) even though the Wowhead description says "This quest was marked obsolete by Blizzard and cannot be obtained or completed." So if it was ever removed, it's back again.

Descrição

Now that we've eliminated the deserters from Theramore, it's time to complete this operation. My local contacts have reported that the deserters base their operations in a ship moored on a small island to the southeast of the docks.

Arresting their leader, Gavis Greyshield, should cause the others to lose their will to fight. Find him within the ship and convince him to surrender. I wouldn't be surprised if he puts up a bit of a fight for show, but then surrenders when he understands he can't win.
